Hi everyone, I got the thunderbolt release day and have not once had 3G or 4G coverage. All I get is 1x in my signal bar. I'm going to best buy in the morning to swap it out, but before that I figured I see if anyone here had any idea how to fix it.
BTW, the sim was done correctly, the associate put the 4G data plan on my account, all of that is done. It just won't connect at all.
Also, I do live in a 4G area. Thanks in advance!

as i was leaving the store with my t bolt and man told me ha had the same problem he took it back and got another one .... maybe someone on here can help but i'd say try to get another one
Yeah, that's the plan. I just figured is check real quick to see if anyone knew of a fix. Thanks for the input!

It seems to fix it if you pull the battery while the phone is on. We'll see how long it lasts!
Anyone been successful using their Airave with their Evo 3d?
I am successful it but requires (1) toggling roaming mode to Sprint only, (2) hard reset (remove battery) and (3) update PRL---EVERY TIME I want to get on Airave....worse, if I leave the Airave coverage, my data keeps working, but I can't make or receive phone calls--have to do ANOTHER Hard reset + PRL update. Since I have my 3VO in an Otterbox Defender case, it really makes the entire situation NOT WORTH IT...(Already been on tech support for 4+ hours on this issue...)
Oh and my wife's Samsung Restore won't even connect at ALL lol....
So has anyone been able to seamlessly enter/exit their airave coverage on the 3VO without any hassles?
Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell, my Evo 3d switches to/from the Airave just fine. Admittedly, I almost never talk on the phone. I don't know how well it's working.
What model of Airave do you have? I've got one of the originals.
Woah.....dude I'm jealous. Mine is a HubBub C1 600 RT...I'm assuming it's a fairly recent model as I just received it and it looked new...it's labeled "Airvana" as well. Also, you can tell if you're making your call on Airave or not by listening for a few extra tones at the beginning of an outgoing call, or by simply dialing *99 and it'll tell you if you're on the Airave network.
So maybe only the newer models are ****ed up with Android?? Maybe I should call and request an older model...
mine works the same way the evo4g did; if you start a call on the airrave, and leave the house/area, the call will probably drop off; if you start a call outside of airrave coverage, and them come into the house, you do NOT lose any calls..
I have the new airave
OK, so long story short, these units ARE working with Evo 3D/Android 2.3 etc..........
....this is so ****ing annoying. If it works for you all it should work for me. I have no idea why it isn't. I guess I'll just be patient....or maybe I should ask them to send me another unit, hmm....

Ah gotcha. Well even if it dropped calls as I was leaving or entering the coverage area that would be fine...it's the hard reboot + prl update that's killing me...
I think you have a bad unit...either the phone or the airvana...I am running great with mine, and don't drop calls coming or going. 3G works great (when I'm not using my wifi network) and I am showing full bars for service. I would call sprint and have them resolve this, something needs to be replaced.
Mine works in and out. Just mine though. Everyone else here connects fine. (2 evo 3ds & 3 evos)

We just got an airrave this week and it works fine with me Evo 3d no need even to power off.
Mine works fine. But I only have the original one.
Mine is maybe a few years old. Works fine for me, same as evo 4g.
Mine has never been able to acquire the airave when I arrive home. From what I read here that is not normal?

my 3D works fine with the my air rave unit. I never did anything, it just worked as soon as it was activated.

I had one of the first Airvana's when they came out. It wouldn't work with my 3D for some reason. Sprint tech support shipped me a new one and it works perfectly, I don't know if I had a firmware issue or something, but the new one works perfectly.
I've had my airwave by sprint since the samsung instincts came out and never had a problem with it unless the power or cable went out...keep in mind that ONLY cdma phones will work with it,a broadband phone like the renagade 950(worst phone ever made anyway)won't work....maybe your unit is bad,it also has to be activated,it costs $4.95 amonth but well worth it....hope this helps alittle
hope mine isn't a bad apple when it arrives spent like my whole day off last fridayon phone and in corporate store with various sprint agents *****ing cause they gave me a run around about getting it for free as i lost all my reception once i switched from evo4g to the evo 3d in my apartment .You have to be a ***** but they eventually said they would ship me mine... waiting patiently for it to arrive atm
if i at least received my text messages in a timely fashion as i did on my evo and such in apartment i wouldn't care but the evo3d has 3 bars less the the evo4g did meaning no bars inside so i had to ask for one as i wasn't accepting the switch back to evo4g they suggested
and was very surprised they were so hard to work with they usually are my favorite reps to deal with tbh
i had 4 people i had to talk too.. they even gave the corporate rep the run around when in doubt demand a manager after u nicely ask for the employee number that always seems to get it done

I hope the Airave helps you too--but have you considered that your phone is bad? I don't think I've heard widespread reports of 3D being worse reception than the 4G...
Also, there are a few semi-hacks (using CDMA workshop, QPST, etc) that can help speed up your internet or put you on roaming to better towers----check out the development section
More thoughts
So I just got off the phone with customer support; I was told to reset it one more time and see if that helps; if not, to call back in and they'd send a replacement.
To recap, the issues I've been having are:
1) Evo 3D must have PRL update every time I come home to find the airave
2) Airave only gives 5 bars if I'm 5 feet away. 20 feet away + a wall = 2 bars again!
3) I've never successfully transferred a call either into or out of Airave--if I leave the house the phone cuts off 100% of the time
4) Wife's Samsung Restore has never been able to connect to Airave at all
All these stack up to my thinking it's the unit itself--especially since others have said their unit works fine w/ the Evo.
Questions:
1) Has anyone else reset their unit? Did the lights or anything change, because mine didn't.
2) Has anyone noticed a difference (Either in wifi speed or airave performance) between plugging airave into your wireless router as opposed to directly in your modem (w/ wireless connected to airave)?
Thanks for any help. I'm hoping my discussion here will help others trying to navigate the same bull****.

comcast here 50mbps i pay for
Modem>Airave>airport extreme base station> speedtest at 40mbps
Modem>Airport extreme base station>speedest 55mbps
nothign was uplaodign downloading on the network at the time
what they told me to do wasnt needed but added below for reference
Apple Airport Extreme
The airport extreme router does not have a DMZ instead you would set up for default host
1. Go into the Macintosh HD
2. Go to Applications>Utilities and select Airport Utility
3. Select Manual Setup.
4. Go to Advanced>Logs and Statistics>DHCP Clients and verify the IP address for the AIRAVE.
5. Go to Internet>NAT, check the box for ?Enable default host at? and place the IP address of the AIRAVE in that box.
Hit Update and powercycle the base station.

Does your Evo 3D have Google Voice?
Mine does, so that texts/voicemails go thru GV; but it's still my Sprint cell # being used.
Anyone else having these problems? If I pull the battery to reboot, I end up with a bootloop. So I reboot again with out battery cover door. When everything comes back up, I'm on 3g for a while, then it goes back to 1x....and stays there.
I am completly bone stock and locked.
Any suggestions?

Ok, did you check with Verizon to make sure you're not in the middle of a 4G outage?
Thats a pain in the neck to try and get them to tell you if your are or not.
I have the data droping thing, but is becuase I got the bad razr and now I wish I went with HTC.( I am past my 30 days I was told and so no swaping for me.) Good luck on fixing your 1x thing.
P.S why are the antennas in the battery door?
I think its fixed now..... Not sure what the problem was.
thanks for all your help

hello i have been trying to flash a rom now and am only able to run roms from the Kings dev. group. every other rom out there i will only get the 1x for data. i have tried everything. and now my phone just broke and will be getting a new one. so im trying to learn here how to fix that i want to run other roms but dont want to get stuck with the 1x
I have woken up with my phone having 1x, rarely but it has happened. What fixes mine is either leave it on airplane mode for a couple of seconds, take off the battery, or remove the sim card and put it back after a minute or so.
Before you do all that stuff, make sure your signal is in CDMA/LTE.

30 days and they won't help?
i just got an early upgrade because they got tired of sending me incredible 2's over the last year. the incredible 2 was itself a replacement for the fascinate. i think i went through 6 or 7 replacements in the last year. have em send you razrs until you a) get one that works or b) have gone through enough that they give you a refurb rezound instead. they will. only reason i didn't get a refurb rezound to replace the inc2 was they don't seem able to replace 3g with 4g; an upgrade is required. since the rezound was 50 bucks, i was willing to play.
Yea I am on my 2nd one and the only way to not have issues is to reboot the phone EVERY 12-24Hours. Or else this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCbvDEewcJU
They will not send me a 3rd one and "think it's the tower". I wanted to go for a rezound, but well thats life.
The guys in the razr forum hate my guts now, becuase I can't get a phone that works right.
Just wanted to weight in here, as I had a similar experience early on with my Rezound. For me, the problem was a conflict between the phone and the 4g SIM card.
The starting symptom was being stuck in 1X data mode. I had seen this a few times before, but it seemed to come out of 1X on its own by turning Mobile Network on and off. Finally, that stopped working and I was stuck in 1X mode.
Thinking a reboot might help, I initiated a reboot. Rebooting just caused the phone to boot loop. Next instinct: Pull the battery. Pulling the battery resulted in a boot loop. My new phone, less than a week old appeared to be defective.
Finally, after enough reading (and panicking!) on the web, I found out I needed to pull the 4G SIM card, which stopped the boot looping (because there was no longer a conflict between the SIM card and the phone).
Once I was able to get into the phone, I followed these directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394659
To the OP, check out that thread and follow those instructions. For anyone else having weird issues, you might verify this setting too. It caused my Rezound to do some flaky thing with data. Once the phone setting was updated, I have not had a single problem with the mobile network.
My dad got the Evo LTE through the pre order, but decided because of the lack of 4G and the internal battery he is going to return it. I have been playing with it for the past few days, waiting for Sprint to send a return box. After running it through usage (although I could not use 3G) it seems like it would handle how I use it...the only thing holding me back is 3G/4G. I live in the suburbs of Chicago, and have amazing WiMax signal, but Sprints ****ty 3G (around .2 up, .01 down). So my question: Should I wait it out for LTE? Considering we got WiMax fairly fast, I believe that LTE should get to Chicago and the surrounding areas within a year...but I do not know if I can survive on 3G that long. How have you guys held up on only 3G? I own the 3D now, and actually use 4G a lot.
If you use 4g a lot then I suggest you then don't even bother considering this phone.

This is a question only you can answer. I rarely use data on the run. I'm usually around WiFi, so I can easily handle it. I've been on 3g only for a long time, since I was constantly flashing ROMs on the OG EVO that were without 4G. So this is the same experience for me.
I'm near Chicago, and I too believe we'll get LTE pretty quick. I am excited about it, but this phone is totally worth a lack of 4G to me. It's incredible. The screen, processor, camera, and other things are really impressive. And it's gorgeous!
In the end, it's your personal needs that must decide whether it is worth it.

I think Chicago is actually one of the first round cities to get LTE.

Thanks for that article! It looks like mine should be "deployed" around June. I'm actually typing this from the phone ya know what? I'm going for it.

I'd start with removing the proxy in the ##3282# screen. That helped me with slightly better speeds. That aside, as others above have pointed out, lte is coming to chicago very soon.
I was in louisville this weekend. Did a speed test on 3g at 7am this morning. 2.4mb down and about 900kb up (bit, not bytes). Pretty impressive and does go to show just how badly the 3g data in the chicago area sucks.

Seems like a fair bet to me. My wife loves it and I'm jealous. I have the GSII and love this phone. My upgrade is in 3-4 months and I'm not sure if I'm going to 1; keep my current phone and use my upgrade to make some cash, 2; use my upgrade to get the EVO LTE or, 3; use my upgrade to get the GSIII. We'll see I guess.

Hey guys! Please excuse my noobish ignorance as I'm usually over in the Epic Touch threads, but I'm looking into getting my pops a OG Photon & I have a few questions.
My Dad needs a Sprint smartphone with an exceptional radio because one area he will be using it often is up in the mountains, roaming in a fringe coverage area on Verizon. And lemme just say now, switching over to Big Red ain't gonna happen, lol.
Now, I've heard rumors that out of all the smartphones in the Sprint stable, the Photon kicks everything else's backside when it comes to radio reception.
So that brings me back to my question: I'm looking for some first hand input on how the radio(s) perform on this puppy to help me determine if this is the right phone for him.
Also, I need to make sure he can wirelessly tether with the Photon without losing 4G capability. I've been reading about how if you unlock the bootloader you lose 4G. If I just root his phone & NOT unlock the bootloader, can I just install a tethering app and still retain the 4G capability? Also, curious if anyone has tried Foxfi (wireless tether w/o root) on the Photon & if/how that worked out.
Any input coming from my fellow XDA peeps would be most welcome & appreciated.
TIA guys!

Yep, the photon has a ridiculously good radio. But such is true with the majority of Motos newer devices. Because the photon is super cheap now, you really can't go wrong. Yes, you can root and not unlock to keep 4g. And yes, foxfi works great.
Thanks for the reply, sounds promising! Does the same reception quality apply to the 3G & 4G radios as well?
