You have to mount the sd card to get the media scanner to read the sd card.
Settings>storage>sd card>mount sd card.
Mount or unmount and mount to force the scan.

I didn't have to do anything specific to make it work. It worked out of the box.

[Q] wasting space sdcard & externalSDcard

Hello.
I just bought a MicroSD, and saw on ESExplorer that the phone mounts the externalSD inside the sdcard folder /sdcard/external_sd
That way, it thinks I only have 11.5Gb available and everything I put inside my external_sd actually fills the internal memory.
I should have 11.5+8=19.5 but I don't.
Any way to fix this?
Thanks a lot!
I can't believe no one has a Galaxy S2 with an external Sd card!

Settings menu/storage and did you format it there first? Or do you use Kies and what is it using for sending stuff to your memory (Internal or External First?)
In settings/storage do you see both cards? In mine I can see SD card 29.81gb & USB storage 11.5gb.
Yes it shows the external card folder in the internal file explorer. It doesn't mean files are saved on the internal card. It was also like that on the S1 as well.
When you connect to PC in USB mode the PC will show both cards separately.

external_sd is just the mount point. You will only have ~12gb available on your internal memory because the phone uses some memory for the OS. I only have 7.4gb usable on my 8gb external sd. The available memory is always smaller than advertised

[Q] Internal SD & External SD Problem

Good day guys and hope you can help me with this. Im running Miui 2.1.6 with Siyah kernel 3.3.1, my problem is my internal sd and external sd cards being swapped or thats how the system views it. whenever i try to move apps from phone to sd card whether via app manager or apps 2 sd it moves my apps to my external sd card which is annoying. im only using my external sd card for media and not for my apps. after moving those apps it creates a .android_secure folder on my external sd with .asec files on it. im assuming that this is a problem with how the phone identifies my internal & external sd cards, i tried removing my external sd card and again tried to move apps to sd card and it says it doesnt have enough space which is crazy because my sd card has 6GB free space on it.

Getting the External card out of the Internal card

Tried the such nut it didn't provide the info I am looking for.
Currently when I look to see how much space I have on my SD cards (the internal and external one), the Flyer constantly tells me that my internal SD card is out of space and it says this because the ext_sd folder is being counted as part of the the space on the internal card when it is in fact the external SD. Is there anyway I can fix this? Something tells me that if I just deleted the ext_sd folder that appear on the internal card it will delete the contents of my external card.
Can anyone assist with this? Much appreciated.

Device not responding when copying from internal storage to SD card

Hi Guys,
I just brought a 64GB micro sd card and I want to transfer my files from the internal storage to the new card.
I tried to move the folder from internal storage to SD card in windows explorer in Win7 and the transfer will fail with a "device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" message.
Any ideas?
Have u tried to move to ur desktop then move to ur sd card?
