Any solution to weak WiFi signal gain ?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello every one
it seems that almost anyone who has a Galaxy s3 suffers from weak wifi signal gain.I have searched internet and find a possible solution which I think it has nothing to do with weak signal but wifi speed, anyway it says type *#0011# and press option touch key and go to wifi and turn off the power saving mode.
I have done that but i dont see any diffrence in signal quality !
I have a TP-Link wifi modem in my room, when i'm in room signal quality is 5/5 or rarely 4/5 bars but when I go out off room it falls to 1/5 and rarely 2/5 bars !
has anyone found any solution to this problem ?
by far it is the worst Wifi i have ever seen, and should not be with this kind of phone with such a high price

It is possible that your Wi-Fi antenna is connected to the main board via conductive rubber. Which is a poor choice. This was the case for my phone and the GPS antenna. I have no possibility to check this. But it sounds like so.
Cheers.

Apart from the fact that your post is wrong with false claims .
You can try changing your Kernel as that is responsible for the WiFi .
jje

I have no issues with wifi signal / strenght.
I did however upgrade to a 32gb model and restored my old cwm backup. After that wifi was horrible but a factory reset fixed it.

I think thats enough, besides my brother and I have the same issue ,he has a white international and I have a blue international s3.

I have absolutely no problems with Wi-Fi, as jj Egan said, try changing kernel, that is usually at the root of weak Wi-Fi signal,

Isn't this just going to drain the battery much quicker?
I don't have a problem with Wi-Fi. I'm in the upstairs room right now, which is above the router (the signal is going through the floor) both my PC and phone get full signal.

SELL IT .

Every Samsung phone I've ever had has shown at least one less bar than my old iPhone(sorry) at the same distance from the router. Sometimes I'm only say a few metres away and it drops a bar, however the speed seems to be identical no matter how many bars it shows.

Pretty sure that's because iPhones now intentionally raise the signal meter so people don't complain about antennagate (that was their solution to it).

Random Wifi Disconnection

Anybody have their SGS2 disconnect the Wifi randomly, even when the phone is under active usage (no internet usage though). My Wifi sleep policy is set to never so it shouldn't be the culprit although it seems like the case.
Anybody encountered similar problem? Or is it due to an app of mine or I got a faulty set?
Never.

Hmm I suspect it has got to do with my apps or something but I just couldn't single out the culprit.
Mine has done that since I got it two months ago. It stayed that way through four stock firmwares and all of the Lite'ning Roms. I typically have to reset it to get it working...

I noticed that Wifi Sharing is taking up the biggest portion of my battery life and I suspect it is the cause of my problem.. Any idea how to solve it?
Ooh dude, so many threats about it! Use Bloat Freezer or Titanium Backup to 'freeze' Wifi Sharing. This disables your phone from detecting and launching the program until you want to 'unfreeze' it again.
It's a way to actually turn off applications.

Wifi randomly disconnecting. For me, turning it off and then back on again fixes it, but only for a little while. It's an issue I've had since the phone was new, despite trying four different factory firmwares and 5 custom roms.
The wifi sharing bug is a different issue but you will need to root your phone to fix that. No root, no fix. I suspect the official 2.3.4, when it's released, will have a fix for that though.

Thanks. But it's weird that I can hardly find anybody else sharing the same bug except for you. I suspect it may be related to some apps or we got a bad batch..
There are actually quite a few, but most don't start a new thread to try and report it. I've seen several threads discussing it and it's also mentioned in a few of the custom rom threads in the development section.
I'm going to start trying different modems and see if that fixes it...

I'm having the same problem here. I've tried 3 stock firmwares including the new 2.3.4 firmware. Like the other guy says, you can fix it by turning wifi off and on again. I'd still like a proper fix though.
Yup, happens to me as well since day 1. Incredibly annoying. Especially if you plan on leaving your phone overnight with WiFi on, absolutely no data gets transferred. :-|

I had this problem with my nexus s, being a network engineer it seemed to me to be like a dhcp problem, I went to my router and low and behold my phone had been given about 20 IP addresses. I gave it a static address of 192.168.1.5 correlating to its Mac address (subnet dependent of course), and it worked fine after that... Give it a try guys I think it's a router compatibility problem, or just gremlins in the tube

If I access the wireless client list on my router it only lists one address per device. Unfortunately I only have the one router, no access to a spare, so can't test it on another router...
I had originally set the router to G only (first attempt to fix issue), but have now set it back to mixed. Maybe under the different modem the N will work better? Stab in the dark...

Try giving it a static address to see if it solves the issue. Are you still connceted to the router when the data stops transmitting, or do you lose the icon at the top and disconnect completely?

Well, about that... I'm now running Lite'ning Rom v2.0 with KG1_CF-Root_CWM_kernel_by_sorg (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15541364&postcount=1118).
I have also changed my router from g back to mixed (b/g/n).
My problem seems to have gone away now. I'll wait and see what happens, but will try your suggestions if it comes back.
When I was having issues, the wifi icon at the top was still there and also showed that I was connected. My mobile data connection was not active. Everything seemed to indicate that I was connected to wifi, yet when I tried to connect to market, RSS feeds or the XDA app it said that there was no connection.

[Q] SGS II crashing TV signal

I can not watch my satalite TV in my room while talking to someone on my Galaxy II !
The TV signal interference is so bad that the sat says "No signal" and the reception is almost gone. Once I put the phone out of the room - all is back to normal.
No other phones, including Galaxy S i9000, do not corrupt the TV signal.
What is that?
Is this a specific glitch of i9100?

But indeed, problem is known.. It also may come down to quality of sat cabling and power filter effectiveness...

Problems with the amaze so far...

Here are a few problems I have with the amaze so far...
1) Fluctuating service. I hate this. I will have all the bars showing and then all of a sudden I get no service. What's up with that? The sensation would at least holds two bars at all times. (Oh and no wifi calling!)
2) Overheating issue. This phone gets too hot for no reason. For example I browse for 15 minutes and bam..its really hot. I make sure I exit apps by hitting the back button and my brightness is at 15%. There's no excuse for this.

4) wifi turning off??? I could be on wifi for a good hour and everything is OK, then I turn on the phone again to use it and I'm not connected to wifi anymore. I manually turn wifi on and off to get it to work again.
5) On the bottom in between the menu and back key my amaze has some light leaking through. Its tiny. I didn't notice it until it was completely dark but its there and now I can't help but keep staring at it. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of it.
6) Lastly and the most annoyong thing for me is a clicking sound. When I pick up the phone it sounds like something getting snapped in place. And its almost everytime. Wtf is that. haha.

the no wifi calling thing sucks, will be fixed with root/update so meh
my battery drains about 50% when i'm sleeping, though this may be to mediocre service that goes in and out, going to try and shut mobile network off tonight and see if it fixes the issue
Though I agree with most of the other "problems" ya'll have listed...
I was told by 3 representatives, and one sales person (who sold me the phone) that you have to activate the new sim card included with the device to take advantage of the new wifi-calling that T-Mobile is rolling out (this includes the new GSII on t-mo). - I spoke with so many because none of them could activate the new sim correctly...and were baffled themselves as to why it was so difficult...haha.
Honestly, I havent been able to test wifi calling because the place where I'm renting has never worked with mobile devices, except for apple devices (of course...haha). I may report back here later when i go somewhere else with wifi.
Just wanted to pass on some info I was told by 4 separate people - they all claimed that's what a memo showed on their system when they pull up the AMAZE and GSII.
I come from a mytouch 4g, i have the same issue, suddenly i have no service then it's back on again. Never had that with the mytouch...
Well, I have had mine since launch day. I have a little but not much light bleed. I have had no heating issues. Last night out at bars I saw the signal issue. One sec I could speed test and pull down 14. Then I would notice no 4G symbol, try to speed test again and it would say no signal. Still love it though, nice and fast!!
My buttons light up when it's dark, but not when it's light. Is there anyway to turn this light sensor off and keep these lights on so I can see my home, menu etc buttons?

The sim is not controlling the software, but it can affect what information is communicated with t-mobile.
I don't know what you mean by you don't have this feature. Among other ways to activate the hotspot capability, you should find the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" app on the device.
Just to repeat/clarify my original statement/post: The Amaze 4G and the GS II (according to others) allow you to activate the wifi hotspot feature, have your other wifi-enabled devices connect to your phone, but when you try to access the internet with those wifi-enabled devices, you are prompted to upgrade your plan to include the $15/mo. plan.
I hope this is clear to all.
Te whole service popping in and out is starting to drive me nuts!!!! 3 bars of 4g then nthing! 1 bar of 4g then it turns into 2 bars of 2g! WTH!?!?!? Never had soo many reception issues on ANY of my Tmo phones!
Dosent seem to matter where I am when this happens as it happens often, far too often!
I have to assume that of all the connection point inside the back cover of the phone at least ONE of them is some sort of antenna?????
Cmon Tmo?!?!?
Even if it does warm up, I doubt that you will feel it if you put it in a case. Unless the phone is burning up..then yeah.
I am coming from a HTC sensation 4G and it had WiFi calling and WiFi hotspot feature.
The manual that comes with the amaze shows how to use WiFi calling also the one on HTC's site,
If I could put the sensation Rom on the amaze I would be happy as the sensation had what I want working,
I love the feel of the Amaze it feels much more masculine and fits nice in my big hands I find my self not mistakenly touching the softkey's as much.
Also I can seem to figure out where 4gb or the Rom is as it shows only 9gb for storage and 2gb for something else
On another note I have seen a post that shows an Amaze with WiFi calling, the had an earlier firmware,

why would you get flamed. only 99% of the people on this site know more about the devices theyre holding and things their carrier offers to them then the actual employees, one of the most known things probably being the grace period you have to return/swap out your phone if you want... noooo, no reason to be flamed.

To those who are experiencing issues with the Amaze especially after returning it a million times before buyers remorse is up, I recommend testing out the GS2 aka Hercules. Other than the resolution this phone is really great. The resolution isn't that noticeable unless you have OCD.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I jumped ship to the GSII. So far I'm happier. The amaze does have more bells and whistles but it was a bit heavy for me and the GS II has got - not substantially - but improved battery life and a more visually appealing screen. Also my eyes aren't great, so I actually appreciate the lower resolution screen which keeps the icons bigger. I can see the pixels easier than on the qhd of the amaze, but i have to be "looking for them" to really notice.
Some people are having better luck with their Amaze so just like a ton of other companies out there these days...there's a big quality control issue.
Looking service is really getting on my nerves now and i dont like this any more. Wonder if there will a fix for this from HTC or Tmobile

Okay well my HTC Legend has almost no signal or occasionally 1 bar signal. While on the SAME plan and network, my Nexus S has full bars. This is a twin plan so everything is identical. I havent rooted it yet since it will void the warranty. Will reflashing the radio once its rooted fix the problem?

I've tried that. Im pretty sure the points touch each other. Sometimes there is no signal at all while other times there is only 1 bar.
then try uodating your radio, i'm pretty sure you'll find all the info you need in the development section, but if you get stuck, feel free to ask.

[Q] Signal Problems. Caused by hardware problem?

Dear Forum members,
I know this is a very common problem/ question. But looking through the forum I was not able to sovle this problem myself.
So the problem is I have no reception neither in my flat nor at work. This makes my phone kind of useless.
I recently tried out several modems but could not achieve anything with that.
My gf has a I9100 as well with the same provider (O2, Germany). She has pretty good signal quality in our flat while my cell has none (even with exact same baseband phones next to each other).
So I can only guess that it is a hardware issue. What do you think?
Btw, outdoors of our building I have 100% signal H+ (I'm living kind of in the middle of Berlin).
Your help is very appreciated here. Cheers,
lennart

Then, It's moving time!
Seriously, this issue started when? It's just weird that you don't get any signal indoors, but your girl, with the same device as you, does.
If warranty isn't voided...I'd pay the store a visit.
Could there be a problem with the antenna? Would be worth the try to buy a new one?

Is your warranty voided? How long has it been since you got any signal at your place/work?
Did you change some part recently, like speaker/usb flex? Did you try to use the external antenna?
Don't even dream of messing with the antenna unless you're absolutely certain your warranty is no good (damage to the phone caused by normal use/misuse or warranty period expired).
If your warranty is good, use it.

Okay, full story: I bought the phone used 2 weeks ago from some guy. I tested it with him outside. Worked great Took it home and recognized that signal quality is bad. No warrenty at all. And I found that 1 of the 7 screws was missing. So I'm not the first who opened it I guess.
Maybe something was exchanged but I don't know. Think it would be of any good to exchange speaker/usb flex?
New ones are below 10€ so I could give it a try.
Thanks for your replies!
