I can get the apps back but I'm on ATT. I was flashing a ROM on a friends Verizon version last night and nothing would sync back. I'm not sure why the verizon version won't but the ATT version will

[Q] 2.2 stock and ICS Passion at the same time?

I am new here, please don't bite.
I have been following the NeoBuddy ICS for a while but haven't jumped in yet. Just picked up a new SD card and want to jump in.
Getting on ICS Passion will be easy with all the great guides. But I am interested in being able to dual boot ICS and 2.2 stock since I require the WiFi Calling while at work. (There is ZERO signal in our building on T-Mobile frequencies)
From what I have read to get back to a stock 2.2 I would have to Odin back, not use Rom Manager? Is this correct? Am I wrong? Am I bothering you?
Thanks for any help.

There is no ability to dual boot the Vibrant (at this time). Going back and forth regularly would be a pain..
Maybe dual booting is the wrong phrasing. Could I backup and restore a 2.2 and a ICS install with Nandroid? And then go back and forth between them?
I am willing to wait for a backup to be restored. I'd rather wait for that than have no ability to receive calls.
I am still trying to grasp the backup and restore process on android phones. This is a hell of a lot to absorb. I am reading as many posts and guides but the underlaying concepts are missing.
Thanks agin.

The recoveries/kernels used are different nandroid doesn't backup kernels. You would end up bricking your phone. To go from ICS back to 2.2 you need to odin back to a stock rom first you can't just flash in CWM. The entire file system is different.

OK I think I got it.
You can flash different ROM's as longs as you are on the same version (2.2, 2.3 ect) and running the same kernel.
But if you want to move between a 2.2 and a 2.3 or a 4.0 you need to go back to stock and go from there.

I'm not 100% sure, but 2.3 might have wifi calling, and as far as my personal experience, you can switch between ICS PASSION and a 2.3 rom as much as you want. I don't know how nandroid backups work though so someone may have to back me up
If you can bounce back and forth with 2.3 and 4.0. Just keep both zips handy. Always format system before flashing. Seems most roms do this auto. Never used nandroid so don't know much on it. Titanium backup pro let's you fast install missing apps without confirming each one. Just don't install with any data.
Also most roms come with a kernel. I'd say find stable 2.3 with wifi calling. I don't know of any quicker way swapping back and forth.

Wifi callings needs a stock touchwiz rom. Different kernel CWM and rfs/ext4 file system.
Going back to cm7 or miui is one thing but back to a Samsung rom is different

ok Im still learning. I know tw is different framework but would he need to Odin back to stock every time to switch. Or would he be able to flash through cwm. Use a touchwiz based rom with working wifi calling and an ICS rom
Or because it's aosp he needs to Odin back. I know I've had to coming off of any cm or miui to a Samsung rom. I think I'm understanding what your saying now

Just to call attention to the word "pro" - you do have to pay for this feature. This and the Dropbox sync make pro totally worth the price, but I wanted to point out that it's not free.
Very true thank you and well worth it imo. In the free version you do have to manually click install on every app which gets old fast!
So it seems like moving back and forth between roms is not a problem IF it isn't a Samsung ROM. I'd have to Odin back.
If I used/found a 2.2 or 2.3 ROM which had the WiFi calling ported over to it I could then flip between them (by backing them up and restoring them).

T-Mobile WiFi calling needs the Touchwiz framework. Which is only availible in Samsung roms. 2.3 AOSPish roms (CM7, MIUI) do not have the needed framework.

I guess I am S out of luck to do what I'd like to do. Probably will still put ICS on to at least try it out.
Thanks to everyone for the information. (I hit the thanks buttons)
Get yourself a google voice number and groove ip to make VOIP calls. afaik you can forward your cellular number to GV, or just tell your contacts of your GV number.

Funny, I just did some research this morning and came up with the same exact solution!
Probably will end up going the GV and Groove route while at work. Probably set the forwarding before I go inside to work.

Stock rom

What's the most updated stock rom (with the new update i keep seeing around these threads)? And how can I install it? I'm coming from a custom rom already and want to switch back to stock, or maybe close to stock.

[Q]How to remove bloatware?

I've unlocked my bootloader and flashed CWM. Do I need to root to remove the stupid bloatware or can I do it with just the bootloader unlocked?

The stock kernel has write protection so if you try to remove the bloat it comes back on reboot. The only way to get it off is flash a kernel that has the security disabled.
I'm running the Renovate rom from the Intl One forums and that kernel has security disabled and works fine on the AT&T version

Sorry, I don't spoon feed or do anyone's work for them. There is a thing called search. I would have to go through the same stuff to pull it up as you and I already left work for the day, I dont need to be someone's personal xda search bot.
Just hide them... Why the eff jump through all those hoops? You have plenty of storage. Hide them and disable them from running. Problem solved.

You are running both the Rom and kernal from the international version or only the unsecured kernal on your att version?

Yes, I'm running both the ROM and the Kernel. I flashed the kernel in fastboot then rebooted directly into recovery from the bootloader and flashed the rom zip.
Also, After I did, I opened Dropbox and a few min later got an email saying I got the 25gb for 24 months that you get with the international. Everything works as well. Calls, texting, MMS, LTE. I haven't found an issue running the rom or kernel yet :good:
I froze all the apps and they are gone even after reboot

[Q] Stock Google Apps

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but is it at all possible for me to get some of the stock apps from vanilla android onto my S4 without flashing a new ROM? Things like messaging and contacts and the like. Just looking to get a stock feel without necessarily needing to flash a whole new rom and then go through the trial phase and then restoring all my apps.

Will this overwrite the current TW apps, or will I have to freeze and/or remove them?
You can keep both i believe

[Q] I'm still on 4.2.2 which came on the phone the day it was released...

Stock touchwiz and all, didn't flash any roms but I am rooted with unlocked bootloader. Any mod I've ever wanted, I was able to do through xposed or just flash some small file. My questions is, are there any benefits to changing roms? If so, what TW rom would you guys suggest?
ThaCh0de's CockNRom v9.2.3.1 with XBrickMyPhoneX kernel seems to do the trick for me

Install or update TWRP with Goomanager if you're on an old recovery. Just click install openrecoveryscript, that easy.
Stock TW KitKat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721118
There are lots of improvements in JB and KK, as well as a couple fixable "issues" (e.g. sd card).
You can sell it to me and then I will give you my phone, that would be the best thing for the world.
Definitely gonna keep my MDK bootloader. The funny thing that's making me want to change is the App to SD card feature in the updates.
I'll make the switch from CWM to TWRP and give stock TW KK a shot. Are there any GS5 ROMs for us? I feel so out of it lol.
I've been flashing since the OG Droid and had close to 10 rooted phones but after getting my GS4 and having everything working perfect(including the mods, I.e. WiFi Ap), I just left it

I'd use Flashify from the Play Store to update to a new recovery. Using Goo or ROM Manager can lead to possibly having to Odin back to stock and start fresh... Couldn't tell you exactly why but it's happened to a few of us including me.
Also... Go for a ROM like C ROM, Mahdi, or Liquid Smooth... Ditch TW

I too have MDK so.... :highfive:! I am running Hyperdrive RLS 15 and it runs flawless. Loads of extra features if you like that sort of stuff. I used the Ktoonz Kernel with it so it comes with the KTweaker App for complete control over the kernel. Loads of battery life. Its 4.3 but if you want 4.4 then wait about a week or so and Sbreen94 will have it released (atleast that is his current time frame).
