Hey guys I just upgraded from Nokia N8 to the SGSIII
Finally made the switch to android, will miss nokia though
anyways
I love playing gba games on my phone and i never had problems with my nokia
This phone is a beast compared to what I've ever had in phone but yet it lags on my gba roms
The n64 game worked just fine
Only having lag problems with this.
i looked up some threads already and change the frame skip to 1 or even 0 which took care of the video lag a bit but the sound it terrible.
Anyone experiencing this with this phone?
would really like the help
Thanks
I just tested gameboid on my SGSIII (Tmobile version) and experienced no kind of lag. I even changed the frame skip to zero. Cant say exactly what fps it was running at (i couldnt find an option to check) but everything seemed smooth. I tested tried Legend of Zelda Minish Cap, Mario Kart and Pokemon Fire Red. All ran fine. Do you have the same problems with all your roms? Are you running the newest version of Gameboid?

Hey I'm try g to play pokemon red and it lags . I believe I have version 2.47.
Th first time I tried it it ran perfect a d I was so happy but never since. I even did a factory reset. It's smooth with the sound off but it should run perfectly smooth with this phone. I disabled a bunch of the t mobile n Google apps but still no improvement
I can't think what could be causing the problem. If possible you can try redownloading gameboid and reinstalling. Also maybe try a different gba bios (not sure at all if this would really change anything. just throwing the idea out there). Everything is stock on my SGSIII and I havent had any problems running any emulators I've thrown at it. The only setting I usually change is the fram skip (to zero) and I turn off the vibration. Hopefully someone else out there can give you more help with this.

i'll try it right away before i do anything
i've turned off vibration

well hopefully someone can figure this out for me
EDIT: UPDATE
Hey just to update, since i got my replacement white 32gb , i haven't had issues at all and it's been almost a week and it's all good.
Might have been something i installed previously.
Thanks for helping out!

Is anyone else Having problems getting N64oid onto their vibrant? I search the market on my phone and it doesnt even come up. When i search it on my laptop at the android markets it finds it just fine, but i cant get it couse it says my device is unsupported.
However i keep seeing new reviews which leads me to think it still works and some of the reviews are coming from fellow vibrant users. Could someone see if they can
A) Find the app on your phone through the marketplace
B) Is it supported?
i emailed the dev on it, hopefully he'll get back to me soon. But if anyone else has any answers or your having the same problem... just let me know =D
thanks!
Once this is working i will start posting ROMS that work, how well they work. I owned alot of N64 games so i'll at lest post about those. If you have it working and would like to post what works and what doesnt I'll keep this first post up to date with your guys' input. =D Thanks guys again!
That's weird, n64oid shows up fine for me. Maybe its the rom you're using?
Anyways, heres what's working:
Full speed with sound:
1. Super Mario 64
2. F-Zero
3. Pokemon Stadium 2 (w/2d glitches)
4. Super Smash Bros
5. Mario Kart
6. Wave Race
7. Banjo Kazooie
8. Diddy Kong Racing
Full speed without sound:
1. Goldeneye
2. Pokemon Stadium 1
3. Zelda Majoras Mask
4. Zelda OOT (crashes frequently)
Unplayable:
1. Perfect Dark
2. DK64
3. Conkers Bad Fur Day (noooo!!)
4. Hydro Thunder
5. All Mario Partys (graphical strobe effect)
6. Paper Mario
...the rest
What ROM are you running?
It's working fine for me
that actually might be it. Im running launcher Pro, rooted with the lag fix. I'll turn that off and see if it works.
*EDIT*
Ok, i just turned it off and im still not seeing n64oid in the marketplace. I can still see it on my laptop but its still saying unsupported device. I am on android 2.1 this isnt a 2.2 only thing is it?

ROM Gripper ++ seems to have the largest selection for an app on your phone. Just make sure you own original copies of the games you're downloading.

It says in rom gripper++ that some emulators don't show up in the market for some countries so this could be why.

You need to upgrade to 2.2
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
but then my lagfix wont work =( and before the lagfix i score around 860 and after im getting 2270. Even with 2.2 i was getting 870... i dont want 2.2 if i cant have the lagfix.
Dude... Lagfixes are included in damn near every rom here. Your quadrant score is a very superficial number like how many freckles one has. It all comes down to how smooth the UI is and I can assure you they all are very smooth and each is very unique in its own way. Do you want the ability to show your friends a high quadrant score? Or would you rather show them Wave Race 64 or any game you own 64 wise. I use this quite a bit and people in my area are more prone to be blown away with high end mobile nostalgia than a static screen . Take the plunge for flash alone at the least.
i know, but when i dont have my lag fix on my phone is stupid slow. Like, scrolling through my apps is glitchy and lame till i have the lag fix on.
Im using the vibrant toolbox to root my phone and then i put on ryanZA's OCLF lagfix.
is there a better one/way to speed up the phone?

Yes. Voodoo. The Overstock kernel is also VERY smooth. I don't even remember what my phone was like.before Voodoo.
Really if you've already rooted, there's no reason you shouldn't go ahead and upgrade to 2.2. Voodoo is a far better lagfix, and if you get a kernel like Overstock that supports it, you can have awesome enhancements like Voodoo Sound and Color, and BLN (let's you use your touch keys as an LED notification, blinking and all).
i actually remember why i went back to 2.1
i had just upgraded to 2.2 and that night my phone almost commited suicde. It was on my desk all by its self, nothing on it, under it or around it. It kept buzzing at me at like 3am till i finally got out of bed to see what was up.
It was SCREAMING hot and the screen had a flashing thermameder on it. It was all plugged in fine no problems... i of course unplugged it for the rest of the night. But yah...
so i just put 2.2 back on my phone. I turned off the lag fix, uninstalled the program, turned off launcher pro and uninstalled it then unrooted my phone and did the upgrade with kies mini... got done installing and rebooted and now my phone is just sitting here going buzz.......buzz.......buzz buzz...... in about 1 minute intervals on an off screen...
**EDIT**
opp got it. I Went into clockwork and reset everything then rebooted and its up. But anywho, has anyone elses phones tried to commit suicide while they were sleeping?
PS- holy crap this phone is really laggy now that i have it all "normal" ... =( strange how use to stuff you get huh...
so should i root first, put on OverStock and then apply voodoo?
First of all, stop caring about quadrant scores. Smartbench is where its at. Quadrant scores are incredibly inaccurate and easy to fool, not to mention heavily pro-htc.
Edit:
Anyways, for your lag problem, try installing a reliable custom rom like bionix-v or trigger, their stock kernels also come preinstalled with voodoo.

Smartbench, i'll remember that. =D Thanks for the heads up so i dont look as stupid in the future ;P
EDIT
Can i get a quick link to those Overstock and Voodoo, says search is disabled try again in a few minutes. I can just flash that rom onto my phone with the vibrant toolbox right?
EDIT again...
I just tried rooting my phone and it saying it failed to install the packages... =P I think between my phone almost cooking to death and not being able to root is why i went back to 2.1..... im using vibrant toolbox.
Overstock is on page one of the android development section. Don't worry so much on a separate link to Voodoo just read the OP's of a rom that you will settle on found also in the android development section. Listed there they will tell if the rom already has Voodoo injected also if it comes activated upon flashing or needing to go to recovery and initiating. Over 3/4 have voodoo in them have fun. I've never used tool box but all of the flashing for me is done through recovery.

I updating my unmodified Tab 10.1 Wifi last night. The update is pretty amazing, if not a bit uglier. But suddenly I am having a ton of issues.
Worst of all is the lag. All the animations are suddenly very laggy and abrupt. Nothing is smooth anymore, when stock Honeycomb used to be very smooth. I talked to my friend, and he isn't having this issue after the official update.
Also, haptic feedback on the stock Android keyboard doesn't work anymore.
Then, Rock Player won't play MKVs with hardware decoding as it used to, and it's COMPLETELY messed up playing it with software decoding. A ton of distortion. Stock player won't play it either.
My dad took my tablet to play Angry Birds, and he says it kept crashing. I tried to play afterward, and it crashed. Just disappears without warning or any FC.
Also, I tried typing this on my tablet. It's now impossible to type (and this isn't limited to browser either) because the tablet is so laggy. Letters are missed, sometimes 3 at a time. I have to hold every button for it to register. Before I could type incredibly fast.
I removed all the widgets and turned off Samsung Apps running in the background, and it's slightly better but still very bad. Any tips guys? Because if not, I'm going to root it and flash a custom ROM. Hopefully the clean start and optimizations will fix it all.

Same thing with me, although I haven't gone through any heavy app use yet, my home screens lag a lot more than they ever did before TW. Google Music also forced closed on me a few times while syncing with the Google servers.
This is after installing a stock build of the OTA via Clockwork. I'm really not too sure what is going on, since mostly everyone else is reporting that everything is very very smooth on their end.
Thanks for the confirmation that at least someone else has my issues. I guess tonight is rooting/flashing night for me. I missed it, after trading my Captivate for a Veer for the next month or two. Though webOS is boss

I Wiped Data and reflashed the ROM, now Im just waiting for a 100 percent charge, and I'm going to try this again. I'll report back.
Here's a question, have you tried restarting the tab, and if you did, did it help any with the lag?
Do a factory restore then after you complete the initial setup, leave it for about 15mins. I did that after I updated since I also noticed some lag on the homescreens and app crashes. Now everything runs smooth as silk and noticeably faster than when it was stock.

Factory restore through settings? I'd need to root it for TiBu first anyway. Thanks, I'll try that before flashing.
Also my tab was completely unmodified. It was android 3.1 as it came out of the box, of which I did the touchwiz OTA update this morning.

OK so I rooted my Tab, flashed Clockwork, backed up all my stuff with TiBu, and factory reset. Most of the lag is gone! I can finally type things really fast without it all going to hell! This makes me happy. Baltic on stock Android keyboard is still gone, but this has been an issue with TouchWiz before on the Captivate. I remember with the Froyo leaks, how the stock keyboard had no haptic... it was fixed eventually. I'm not too worried. So my next step is to flash a new ROM, that one with the black bar. Just for the optimizations, and because I miss flashing since I have a webOS device now. Well thanks for the help with the suggestion for the factory reset, my tablet is usable again! Thanks guys!
Last comment. StarBurst is incredibly smooth I flashed it and can't be happier!
Yeah my problems are mostly gone too. I did a factory reset and then reflashed the rom, then I let it sit after boot-up for 20 minutes, rebooted, let it sit for another 5, and then rebooted again. A lot smoother this time around. Was probably just a bad flash.
Glad yours is working well too!
Hey guys, I just flashed serendipity today and I must say I love it thus far. Haven't run into any problems. This maybe my first one but I'm not so sure this is a bug with said rom.
All the games I have installed time out and I have to turn the screen on again. I realize that I can just increase the timeout period (my current workaround) but I wanted to know if anybody is experiencing this issue either on serendipity or other roms. I thought it could have been a flaw with the game but I've tried games like cut the rope, worms, need for speed shift, and words with friends. Its the same problem with every single one. Chime In!
It happened on other ROMs for me as well (NFS Shift)
I wonder if its an incompatibility with our phones then... kinda how like some games refuse to work with it.
It's up to the app to prevent the screen from timing out.
Generally you don't go 30s without pressing the screen though.
Sent from my SGS II
Its definetly game fault, because I dont get screen off in half games i can doodle jump all day without off but in shift and others screen becames black so I use widget to prevent it

Yeah true, I just thought it was interesting... I just have to increase screen timeout.. thanks guys=)
I have tried a numerous amount of emulators. (gameboid, TigerGBA, And a couple others i dont remember)
and i have the correct bios and the correct roms. HOWEVER. everytime i go to play one of my games. (on any of the emus) it FC. i have tried tweaking every single setting. and have tried to get the most updated version out there. but nothing ever works. if you guys have somehow managed to get something to work. please help.
Weird, all emulators I have tried have worked like a charm. Gameboid, nesoid, n64oid, fpse, and psx4droid. That is with a yp-g1cwy/xaa.
Which model is that? Like korean or what?
And the psx emulator worked for a little bit. Not long and was extremely lagfilled. Any suggestions? And where did you get your emulators?
Well, the model is U.S. As far as the psx, I haven't actually ripped any games for it yet, but they both startup fine. The gameboid, etc, all run games fine. I got the emulators from different sites, as they are not available on the market, I think I got a couple from slideme, not sure on that, it was a couple months ago..

FPse works very well. I have used PSX4Droid and it did not load games for some reason. You have to find the Bios online and just paste it on your SD card.Sixaxis works great with this App. I used ImgBurn to copy my PS1 games. Works great!!! Good luck.
I don't know why but many ganes like shadow gun thd or glowbal doesn't work!
Shadow gun beginns to flicker and than it close.
In glowball I only see the clown face and than some black and white stripes and than it also close!
After a reset from my prime it works fot some time
Does anyone have an idea what's the problem is?
same thing happens to me, but only if i have tablet idle for day or so. then i need to restart it because flickering occurs in every game. its kinda annoying, though
Cant' say i've encountered this issue. Not back when it was stock or now on virtous rom and motley's kernel.
U running fully stock TFP or?
I don't know, I've had some graphical artifacts similar to that, but they were by no means consistent or prevalent. What update are you on, .21? If so, I know that it has been particularly unstable for me but some seem to be having good luck with it.
I have the .21 Version and it is rooted. But i hadn't done anything else.... No other kernels, nothing like that.

Well there's the problem! J/k lol, .21 is the worst version for me so far on stability. I had SOD (never have until now), random reboots, and graphical artifacts in a single sitting not too long after installing it (Earlier today I closed my browser along with a video, only to have the audio continue on inexplicably until I had to just power cycle). But all my games continue to work.
Have you tried a soft-reset using a safety-pin or something in the little hole next to the microSD slot? Some people have reported that actually helping with some stability issues.
No issues here. I'm rooted and on. 21(rooted on previous version and using OTA Root Keeper).

I had the same issues, I ended up Factory resetting my Transformer and now every game works without a hitch. When I got my transformer it had Honeycomb still so I did the normal update provided by Asus and maybe that doesn't work well, like upgrading windows without a new install, there are always issues later. Anyway I hope that helps. I also had quite a high battery drain when docked and I replaced the dock and now that is also resolved.
