Swap partition - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Someone have played with swap partitions into Galaxy S3? Maybe we can give more power to our S3 allocating some swap partition, so when our galaxy s3 are in heavy load, they can move things not relevant from mem to swap instead of closing it.
Just came with this idea from people talking about the 'only' 1GB of RAM. When i get my Galaxy S3 (probably a 32gb version), i want to try set like 512~1024mb to swap. Remember that flash memories are fast enough to handle this IMHO.
Sorry if this is a noob question...
Thanks.

Definitely one of the more reasonable questions, not noobish at all. We don't have any kernels with swap, and I do not know of any in the making though :/

great to see a proper question, this was done on the s1 and I would think that sooner or later someone will, so patience is the answer here

Gingerbread ROM on Galaxy SIII

Howdy,
For testing purposes I want to load a pre-ICS ROM on my GalaxyS3. I need the flash built in that got dropped with ICS.
Has anyone tried this? If so, what are recommended ROMs?
If no one has done this, what ROMs are closest to what the S3 runs and would stand the greatest chance of working?
Thanks,
Joe
Presume this is a test to see how fast you can brick your SGS3 .
Adobe Flash player works on ICS .
jje
now this was a unique question. in the world of jb you are looking for gb
oh go on, do it, testing, testing

Like JJegan has already mentioned Adobe flash was dropped for JB not ICS
This is I think the 4th "can I put gingerbread on x" thread I have seen on xda, pretty sure its the second in the S3 forum and also there were two in the gnex forums if my memory serves me right.
As you can imagine they were met with complete and WARRANTED hostility.

If I'm not mistaken, that is an ACTUAL quote!
Damn, in that case snake from the Nokia 5110 will run smooth as a mofo on our S3!
Let's start a bounty!

to be equally fair, i'm in the same boat. i had a captivate for a while, loved the gb roms i flashed constantly to find my favourite. bought an s2 and absolutely love the phone. i hard bricked my previous s2, i dont think i had the right kernel, something i did was for a non canadian version of the s2. after i sold that one i bought another brand new s2. the s3 was around for a little while at this point but my girlfriend has a galaxy nexus and her sister an s3 and i just dont like the way ics and jb look, feel and operate. it felt like switching from windows to a mac after using windows for years. i would go to close a window and the 'x' was in the upper left and not right like windows.
its a personal opinion, i'm sure in many ways firmwares past gb are better in many quantifiable ways, but i just dont like em. not to mention the stupid physical home button like some loser iphone. i love the 4 backlit buttons that samsung uses on many devices like the blu ray player i have. it's just awesome.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of android?
in closing, think of the amount of roms out there for the captivate which are based on froyo people still use. gb ics and even jb roms are available but many people still prefer the look and feel of froyo.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of
Got a couple of thousand to spare might interest a dev otherwise not likely .
Try one of the developer forums where devs have a contact or question route .

thank you sir, i'll keep the search alive although i think i'm upstream in a fecal body of water without means of propulsion
why?!

Is this phone worth buying?

Sorry if this has already been posted or is in the wrong section i am new to the forums.
Okay i recently got into rooting and putting custom roms on my phone right now i have an HTC evo 4g.
But i am eligable for an upgrade with sprint i have been waiting for a while because i knew there would be an amazing phone to be released soon enough and i am starting to think the SIII.
Is this phone worth it? I would only be paying 250$ for the 32gb and 199$ for the 16gb with my upgrade.
is there any other phones that are up there with the galaxy s3 on sprints network? Or should i just go and get this phone.
is it alot faster then the s2? also will i be able to put jellybean on it if i was to get it? is there a stable release out.
Yes. Go get this phone.
Is the best currently available.

Buy the phone if you want it. It's a great phone but it may not suit your needs. Check it the specs and compare it with other phones you can choose from .
Your s3 model won't be the international version, it will be the dial core version so check their forum to see their development.

Is there anything less with the dial core version? I will go try to find there forum now thanks.
Yes
He meant dual core version. You aren't really losing much. Both versions are top of the end amazing phones.

Yah.. Amazing phone and pretty cheap compare to Iphn5 but more features

The dual core GS3 has documented and developer-friendly Qualcomm = definitely worth buying.
S3 is easily the best phone I have ever owned (and I have owned a great many top-spec phones).
That said I preferred the S2 in terms of size and weight. But the S3 has a higher quality screen and considerably better battery life
Oooh i see now the I9300 is the quad core version which is not in the US
The US version is dual core.
Okay how big is the difference in speed between the two?

Should be similar on stock touchwiz. The dual core one is lightyears ahead of the Exynos one, though, when it comes to custom AOSP roms. Why? Well, just ask @codeworkz ^^

Thank you very much.
Just wanted to add my opinion to this one as I'm sick of all the exnos bashing.
Just because cm devs can't get it to work properly does not mean it's bad. It's the best version and I've never ever used a ti Omap or Qualcomm based phone that wasn't **** and dont get me started on cm roms on phones as from desire onwards I've never encountered a cm version worth installing as they aren't worth it. Stock android has always been and always will be lacking and ugly no matter how many cookie cutter mods you implement like volume button wake which is old old old.
Do yourself a favour and stick to Samsung based roms and save the headache and the laughs from people who see your stock android device and the pictures that come off the aosp camera among other things.
The SG III is way better value than the iphone 5.
If you want something "worth buying", you are the only one who can actually decide on this.. because it may/may not suit you. So i suggest you search and gather info for yourself so you get accurate infos
I do not mean to flame or anything, just a mini-suggestion. Hopefully this will help you in your decision
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I am surprised that no one said that you should wait for the Note 2 or the new Nexus or the next Galaxy S x, where x>3. There will always be better, but when you actually start using the phone you see that you don't need anything more, except less call log lag
It is that great that I don't even have the urge to root it right now and I rooted and reflashed everything android I had before.

[Q] Galaxy sIII 16 and 32gb information

Hello! This i the first time I write on this website, but I've always been following it. I just wanted to know one thing, I'm going to buy a Samsung Galaxy s3 in 5 days, if I buy the 32 gb version can I install all the roms available here? Is the difference only in the memory? I would like to know if any of you have the 32 gigs version and installed there roms, thanks a lot guys and keep up the good work! Alex
If its the gt-i9300, then you can flash gt-i9300 roms. Size of internal memory doesn't matter

i watch alot of youtube videos for both galaxy s2 and galaxy grand which one i should pick i love the 16 gb in s2 and gpu power and otg idea so plz help me
Listen mate, what do you want any of us to say?
It's a world of pointlessness asking for a phone comparison in a S2 forum (the wrong section by the way) because all you're going to get is biased responses.
Check the specs of both phones, check the reviews and make up you're own mind.
Asking a load of complete strangers to make purchase decisions for you is no way to go through life son.

for me galaxy s2 (i9100) is the best you can see the benchmarks on gsmarena

Yup.Galaxy s2 is much better than grand duos.It can run games smoothly.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I wouldn't buy it again since Samsung doesn't release documentation about Exynos chip and therefore custom ROMs won't run bug-free. I guess I'd try a Sony or take a look at the Fairphone at fairphone.com.
By the way, you're in the wrong section. Ask a moderator to move it to Q&A please.

Not necessarily biased as people experienced with a S2 can definitely give great comparison on how other phone's work better/worse.
Ok to the OP, first of all the display is the only relevant and major factor here, other hardware configuration are either equal or inferior compared to the S2 (The Mali Gpu is definitely more powerful),for the duo's the internal memory is at 8gb or something right(at the same price S2 will have 16).
Ok about the display the only good is that it's 5" rest about it is crap, come on comparing a tft touchscreen with an amoled plus is not even remotely fair. Amoled outshines(pun!) tft, period. For a 5" screen the resolution is same as the S2's, the ppi is so low the pixels can be seen as big ugly dots.
So in almost every regards S2 does infact outshines the grand, but if you want a bigger screen you will have to go for the grand.
This review by me is not biased, I compared every specs of the device for a friend and found it completely unimpressive.

thansk guys i respect all opinions and i will buy s2 coz the last mobile i have ws xperia miro it was bad android experience coz the internal memory and low spec
S2 will be a bad Android experience, too. TouchWiz will become ugly very soon and custom ROMs don't work as supposed and will always be a bit buggy =/
