Sorry if this has already been posted or is in the wrong section i am new to the forums.
Okay i recently got into rooting and putting custom roms on my phone right now i have an HTC evo 4g.
But i am eligable for an upgrade with sprint i have been waiting for a while because i knew there would be an amazing phone to be released soon enough and i am starting to think the SIII.
Is this phone worth it? I would only be paying 250$ for the 32gb and 199$ for the 16gb with my upgrade.
is there any other phones that are up there with the galaxy s3 on sprints network? Or should i just go and get this phone.
is it alot faster then the s2? also will i be able to put jellybean on it if i was to get it? is there a stable release out.
Yes. Go get this phone.
Is the best currently available.

Buy the phone if you want it. It's a great phone but it may not suit your needs. Check it the specs and compare it with other phones you can choose from .
Your s3 model won't be the international version, it will be the dial core version so check their forum to see their development.

Is there anything less with the dial core version? I will go try to find there forum now thanks.
Yes
He meant dual core version. You aren't really losing much. Both versions are top of the end amazing phones.

Yah.. Amazing phone and pretty cheap compare to Iphn5 but more features

The dual core GS3 has documented and developer-friendly Qualcomm = definitely worth buying.
S3 is easily the best phone I have ever owned (and I have owned a great many top-spec phones).
That said I preferred the S2 in terms of size and weight. But the S3 has a higher quality screen and considerably better battery life
Oooh i see now the I9300 is the quad core version which is not in the US
The US version is dual core.
Okay how big is the difference in speed between the two?

Should be similar on stock touchwiz. The dual core one is lightyears ahead of the Exynos one, though, when it comes to custom AOSP roms. Why? Well, just ask @codeworkz ^^

Thank you very much.
Just wanted to add my opinion to this one as I'm sick of all the exnos bashing.
Just because cm devs can't get it to work properly does not mean it's bad. It's the best version and I've never ever used a ti Omap or Qualcomm based phone that wasn't **** and dont get me started on cm roms on phones as from desire onwards I've never encountered a cm version worth installing as they aren't worth it. Stock android has always been and always will be lacking and ugly no matter how many cookie cutter mods you implement like volume button wake which is old old old.
Do yourself a favour and stick to Samsung based roms and save the headache and the laughs from people who see your stock android device and the pictures that come off the aosp camera among other things.
The SG III is way better value than the iphone 5.
If you want something "worth buying", you are the only one who can actually decide on this.. because it may/may not suit you. So i suggest you search and gather info for yourself so you get accurate infos
I do not mean to flame or anything, just a mini-suggestion. Hopefully this will help you in your decision

I am surprised that no one said that you should wait for the Note 2 or the new Nexus or the next Galaxy S x, where x>3. There will always be better, but when you actually start using the phone you see that you don't need anything more, except less call log lag
It is that great that I don't even have the urge to root it right now and I rooted and reflashed everything android I had before.

I dont care about screen size or performance as both is dual-core or battery
All i care is the Solid Build cause i considered to be a bad user and its very likely to drop the phone and i want a phone can handle a bad Handler
I already have Motorola Defy but i want i a better performance and a phone equiped with 1GB ram and dual-core cpu

Well based on the link you gave, the s2 is a better device. But if I was you, I would go to the dev section of both devices and see which one is better.
But if I was choosing, I would get the s2

consider this...
With whatever phone you buy you need to remember it is a PHONE... it will break.. the i9100 is an EPIC phone and was my best phone purchase to date.... Motorola builds a damn strong phone... BUT I promise you will enjoy the i9100 more.. it is one of the most developed phones on xda and has an awesome following.. you will get better OS support and faster releases... get the i9100, invest in a nice case.., root it, and flash Resurrection Remix Rom... you will be a happy camper..

I highly appreciate your help and feel grateful
Im also feels good towards S2 but i wait for Atrix Opinions as you advised ,
Honestly Motorola Defy is the STRONGEST phone ever bought , simply life proof and if you want to break it ,you wont have success easily.

Thanks for all help attempts
I have both phones and the s2 is way way better than the atrix 4g if not only because of the screen. I also tested both devices running cm10 tho you still don't have a proper camera or hw accel on the atrix.
now about the build quality, I always loved Motorola for this and the s2 feels like it could break with anything but with a good case and some care, you would be safe.
All in all, I would go for the s2

Howdy,
For testing purposes I want to load a pre-ICS ROM on my GalaxyS3. I need the flash built in that got dropped with ICS.
Has anyone tried this? If so, what are recommended ROMs?
If no one has done this, what ROMs are closest to what the S3 runs and would stand the greatest chance of working?
Thanks,
Joe
Presume this is a test to see how fast you can brick your SGS3 .
Adobe Flash player works on ICS .

now this was a unique question. in the world of jb you are looking for gb
oh go on, do it, testing, testing

to be equally fair, i'm in the same boat. i had a captivate for a while, loved the gb roms i flashed constantly to find my favourite. bought an s2 and absolutely love the phone. i hard bricked my previous s2, i dont think i had the right kernel, something i did was for a non canadian version of the s2. after i sold that one i bought another brand new s2. the s3 was around for a little while at this point but my girlfriend has a galaxy nexus and her sister an s3 and i just dont like the way ics and jb look, feel and operate. it felt like switching from windows to a mac after using windows for years. i would go to close a window and the 'x' was in the upper left and not right like windows.
its a personal opinion, i'm sure in many ways firmwares past gb are better in many quantifiable ways, but i just dont like em. not to mention the stupid physical home button like some loser iphone. i love the 4 backlit buttons that samsung uses on many devices like the blu ray player i have. it's just awesome.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of android?
in closing, think of the amount of roms out there for the captivate which are based on froyo people still use. gb ics and even jb roms are available but many people still prefer the look and feel of froyo.
anyway, long story short - is there any other demand worth warranting a dev to make a gb rom for phones past that version of
Got a couple of thousand to spare might interest a dev otherwise not likely .
Try one of the developer forums where devs have a contact or question route .

I can't decide between an S3 a One X or a Nexus, the Nexus is great I love the idea behind it but the specs are too outdated, and a new nexus is just around the corner. The One X is nice, nice screen nice specs, but not completely open (Romming is VERY important to me), the S3 is a beast, massive screen, totally awesome, but how "hackable" is it, I remember reading about some developer raging at the exoynos chipset?. So I'm just wondering, do the roms all work 100% or are there missing drivers and all that crap that we android fanatics hate. And is the romming process nice and easy, root, install cwm, flash roms (From what I've read yes it is like that). S3 owners, please chime in, I need to make a decision by tonight.

Exynos source is bring released so the s3 is obviously the best option in terms of romming and with exynos sources due to be released they can only get better

If roms are very important to you get the new Lgnex. There's no phone like a Nex. If you like Aosp, go Nex. I have a Gnex, GS3 and a N7 and I will be selling my S3 to grab LGnex soon as its available! If you like tw or sense then go w/ others but they will never have the amount of aosp roms that a Nex has. (Kernels too) You ever own a Nexus you will get confused as to what to flash. You also have a device compatible w/ the Android Sdk , fastboot, adb which are not available on any other device and make things much easier and 100% safe. I like my S3 but im Nexus all the way!!

Hi, Tech Guys here!
I don't know if I'm posting in the correct category but I thought it would be the best way to decide here which device to buy. Yes, I've looked on various sites and reviews for the best mobile device out there. Surely, most of them would suggest any one of the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One and Xperia Z. Well, I've not found any review considering the development of the devices and I don't think I'd. Thus, I decided to post a thread here on XDA where I can easily get recommendation for it and can have my priorities considered by the techies here. At the moment, I own a Samsung Galaxy S II. The only reason I still love it is the continuous development for it. So, my kind request to all of you here is to help me decide the best phone out there - the budget is INR 40,000 ($ 800). Here are the priorities (decreasing order):
Obviously, Android! I don't want restrictions for using my own device. I want the possibility to tweak the settings. I want Custom ROMS, Apps or you can say everything what this site is made for.
The best development support - I think Samsung and Google are the best for it, no?
Battery Backup. It's fine if I can improve it noticeably with tweaks.
Storage
Hell outta performance. I was very disappointed for the reviews that said though having the best performance, S4 noticeably lags a much.
Screen with good contrast and colors. Size also matters.
I don't want to pay much for bloat.
I don't know why my heart is not letting me go against the S4. But I can make the same understand if I've your points here.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone.
I've also added a poll to vote for your choice.
s4 is great but one x is better suited for developing Android roms. Many roms are available for one x but s4 doesn't even have a official cyanogen

Well I have had a recent dealings with some of the devices from India and to be honest if it is for Development you may end up importing. Avoid Micromax and any of the OEM that import from China. Maybe the S3 maybe a good one or the S4 If the Nexus line is not available to you. Oppo Is also working hard with developers.

Hey guys
Should I rather buy a s3 or another smartphone if I want to flash a custom rom and have a reliable handy? I have a i9000 now and want a new smartphone that is faster and still has got frequent community support.
Also, I read that the european version has got an exynos chipset, is that a problem for custom rom support?

Dont get an S3, We might not get official KitKat and custom ROM support seems to be slowing down. In fact, dont get Samsung, go HTC / LG / Sony

I would still suggest to stick with Samsung becoz:-
1. You can use external memory card
2. You can use a detachable battery. Most of phones apart from Samsung coming with sealed battery.
I love HTC phones, however for above reason I am still using S3.
I would say look for your budget, spending too much on a phone is not justifiable. S3 is still a rock solid phone and you can get it cheaper.
I do not really bother whether I am getting Kit Kat or not, because still people are happy using ICS.
I would rather suggest you to buy Motorola Moto G phone, amazing phone for affordable price, and also it's much better than Galaxy S3,because it's will get updates a lot quicker than Samsung, much smoother UI,a lot less bloatware.

The new HTC One (M8) has a SD card slot.
Also, for the record ICS > Jellybean, but remember with each update comes security fixes.

Well, I appreciate your handy choices but the problem is that I am on a budget and the s3 is far cheaper than the rest you mentioned! I would really like sonys z1 compact or his great brother but it is expensive as hell as I would have to buy it without a mobile contract...
