hi,
finally I decided to flash ICS on my rooted neoV (GB/BL-unlocked/cwm)
Reg. the roms they all claimed I have to install a stock ICS first,
so I flashed Stock 4.1.A.0.562 Greek
no issues so far, but no root any more, and no way to enter recovery mode (power & Vol+/-)
Then I flashed Suave Kernel because I´ve read it would install cwm (???)
whatsoever, nothing changed.
Please help me to get rid of the stock-fw, bring back cwm or at least get back root
Do I have to repeat the whole procedure I already did on Gingerbread (Doomlord -/CWM)?
THX
1) you flashed entire firmware, so no wonder that you lost root,
2) Suave Kernel does have CWM inside, keep pressing back when you boot your phone, when you see boot logo,
3) yes you need to root/install CWM again, with one note, you need to use different root tool kit, not the one you used for GB. But since you have unlocked BL, no need to mess with root process, since you have CWM in custom kernel and all custom rom's are prerooted.
thanks for your reply, but .... do I have to root now or not ?
How do I verify the kernel really is installed (only flashtool claimed it is - phone sais "2.6.32.9-perf"
and cwm; how many fingers do you want me to have ? power + vol.up + vol.down + back??? :silly:
however, since none of the variations work, I doubt to have actually installed the right kernel...
"... since you have CWM in custom kernel and all custom rom's are prerooted."
that´s what I hoped before

if you flashed suave v 6 kernel, you should see the kernel info as
"2.6.32.9-perf

or use something else from the play store
use flashtool or fastboot. both of them should say if it's installed or not.
and regarding entering CWM, who said you need to use more buttons in same time? I wrote: keep pressing back when you boot your phone, when you see boot logo.
yeah, finally I got it.
It took so long at the sony logo,
(in the past you always had to press power and vol. together.)
damn, that was annoying...
Big thanx

wt19i does not have a built in recovery like the samsung phones.
you have to install it.
if you have root already, then proceed to this thread and follow instructions.

browse the last few pages of that thread, i believe somebody has got it working.

Unless you're talking about CWM recovery (keep pressing repeatedly volume down when you see Sony logo, until you enter CWM), there's also a so called 'safe mode', check this thread.

You can't install cyanogenmod before you have unlocked your bootloader. You can unlock by official sony method for developers (look in my signature for a guide) or by testpoint method. Otherwise you can't install a rom for unlocked bootloader because you aren't able to flash a kernel boot.img.
When your bootloader is unlocked, in most custom kernels cwm is integrated
Don't try to flash a rom for unlocked bootloader on a locked bootloader, otherwise your device will brick and you will have to flash the original firmware with flashtool!
Ah btw to install cwm on ics you must have rooted ics (you can't root ics like gingerbread firmware .42, you will have to do it like this) and then you can download the x-parts app from playstore which can automaticly install cwm
I rooted device and have X-Parts.
Installed Recovery 5.5.0.4 by pvyParts.
I am able to restart in recovery mode.
Do I understand it right?
Even if I have recovery installed I won't be able to install CM or other ROM with locked bootloader?

You can install roms especially made for locked bootloader, like ics based "real ics lite" or "MiniCMSandwich". There are some MIUI rom's around here, too, but stock rom is the smoothest

So Laugh at me I've bricked my neo mt15i
So some suggestions on where to look to fix it would be nice, or maybe someone knows how to unbrick it?
I bricked it using some ICS firmware with Clockwork mod,
I booted into clockwork after turning it on, selected install rom, installed the new rom, came up with a interesting install menu with next, select neo or neo v, Of course I selected my mt15i neo option, clicked next. It went through the install said it was finished and rebooted.
Now its stuck when it turns on at Sony Ericsson, and doesn't move from there,
I can turn it on holding the option key to get it to fastboot mode or the back key for a green light which i think is recovery mode.
So i've tried using the sony ericsson recovery software but it was like no bad firmware since I can a custom 2.3 rom, so it was rooted and everything.
So how would I go about fixing it from fastboot or recovery? I'm sure there is a way, but I haven't found any thing yet through my google searches.
Thanks in advance guys
Why are you using ICS rom with GB kernel? flash some custom ICS kernel.
btw: that option key is called menu key
also you didn't say which rom you was trying to use
ahh sorry it was just a random ics rooted rom of the neo,

it doesn't actually matters, main problem is that you use GB kernel with ICS rom.
What do you mean GB kernel?
Since I unlocked the bootloader when I first put on the original rooted rom, but Im not too sure what else I changed when I first rooted it from the guide.
So could we go some where from here and change the GB kernel? or Have a dug myself in a hole in this case

You were using gingerbread before, right? And then you installed rom from CWM, right?
oh yep sorry always forget these names
yeah i went from GB to ics using clockworks mod 5,
but yeah im slowly understanding what im missing now, so i need a ice cream sandwich kernel to make my rom work,
My phone is now booting into clockworks 4 by itself when I turn it on, So I guess I can do something from here?
I think I managed to get cwm 4 on by flashing it using flashtools, so i think I need to find a kernel which supports my new rom would be my guess, but flashtool doesn't seem to like the kernels i've been finding and the ones that come with the roms i've managed to download the links seem to be all dead so far

Well managed to get it going after about 6 hours of reading different forums today
Thank you for your help guys!
So I worked out I used a tweaked rom link-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720177
But the kernel didn't seem to work for some reason, though maybe I tried it with the wrong rom and thats why it didn't work, all i know is i've got a 2.6 kernel with 4.0.4 ics,
this said this has been quite a good learning experience, even though it was slightly stressful as I tried option after option.
But yea the problem was the kernel from what I could work out, and when I was booting up into clockworkmod 4 that was when I'd flashed the kernnel to it, I could install other roms from there and then re flash the kernel after i'd install the rom.
What I don't understand is why clockworkmod 5 was deleted when i used it to install the rom originally, since it wouldn't work after that (holding down the volume button when turning on)
Though maybe its still there after loading a rom that boots now, haven't checked yet
Neo / v has no recovery partition, which is where cwm usually installs.
So we have 2 options install to /system or /boot when you have locked bootloader you can only install to /system, most rooms format /system at install so unless the rom contains cwm it is lost.
With unlocked bootloader cwm lives in the kernel, as performance is better with custom kernel most rom recommend one, therefore no cwm needed is system.
To clarify cwm for locked Xperia is s compressed archive extracted to and ran from cache partition, so once your in recovery formatting system isn't an issue but it is lost at reboot.

Dude, it`s very easy to unbrick your neo.
You should do step by step:
1.Install latest Flashtool to your PC.
2. Install ADB drivers
3. Download Official Sony Firmware 4.1.B.0.431 Central_Europe and kernel with cwm, i prefer night-elf
4. Power OFF your phone/ Launch Flashtool at PC/
Then press and hold settings button on Neo and connect usb cable.
LED must be green. Then press flash button and choose Fastboot. In next window press 'Selekt kernel to flash' and choose downloaded night-elf kernel.
5. Then disconnect cable. Then press and hold BACK button and connect cable to neo. LED must be blue. Next press flash button and choose Flashmode, select Official FTF you downloaded and press ok.
6. Voialia! 5-6 minutes and your neo is Alive!:fingers-crossed:
Hi Folks,
I have a stock .587 firmware with locked BL.
I have done some tweaks on it listed below:
- New adreno libs.
- Walkman port V6 by ThilinaC
- removed bloatwares manually and freezed some others.
- JB SystemUI changes by ThilinaC
- adrenaline boost, etc.
I was learning on decompiling and recompiling the apk's. So I picked up the simplest one. i.e. enabling on screen buttons in framework-res.apk.
I made change into in one of the xml and I successfully rebuilt the apk. and flashed it using root explorer. But it gave bootloops.
I tried starting CWM recovery using volume down button at the Sony logo as usual. But it didnt start. I tried so many things like connecting to USB and restarting the phone at that time to start recovery by same pressing volume down button method.
But it didnt work still.
Since I was not able to go into recovery, and since my nand backup was some days old and had some data which was needed.
I flashed only system partition from the .587 ftf. using flashtool and rooted the phone again using normal procedure.
I thought the volume down button will work for recovery but it is still not working. (The button works normally when phone is on i.e for volume down process.)
Please help me what can be done.
P.S.: As of now I can go into recovery using x-parts or any other tool like titanium. But only manual recovery entry is not working.
So it means, I wont be able to go into recovery if I get bootloops again. And I am afraid to change/port anything on my phone now.

back button also didnt work.. Thanks for your reply anyways....
To add to my point....when I repeatedly press volume down/back button, the LED turns blue,,,but as per my observation, previously it used to stay till recovery starts, but now it turns on for 4-5 seconds and then goes off, and then the Experia bootanim shows up.
Is it like the exploit which activates recovery at boot time is damaged?(just a guess)..If maybe yes..how can I solve it?
Try to install recovery again via flashtool.

There is one version floating around which is using tapping on screen to enter in recovery, so since for you, back and volume- didn't work. Tap on screen was only option left, having in mind that you said that you can enter recovery using xparts, meaning that your recovery is installed ok.
p.s. I doubt you used doomlord's root toolkit to install CWM

So I will help by saying if you can not find a way to fix your installation then unbricking tutorial can be found in the stickies at the top and are easy to follow just double check every step. This will involve returning to stock firmware found here or at Samfireware.com. to get into 'download' or 'odin' mode you are best to turn phone off completely, then hold power button and BOTH volume buttons down, then when it warns you not to flash firmwares press vol up to say its ok, then your in download mode.
Once at stock again (and your happy to do it again) try to follow the tutorial again. Were you using the latest CWM version of Raef's kernel as that can only work on EXT4 file system, as standard our 'i' device is RFS file system so the E3 version is the way to go.
.....but then I have been a n00b and not looked at the RazoDroid thread to see what file system it installs on or even if it comes with a custom kernel or not. If it does not include a kernel flashing (using Odin) the latest odin version of Raef's kernel may fix it.
Links to kernels are in the dev forum where you found the rom ^^

I wasn't sure if ClockworkMod would be installed with the rom, so I donwload x-tools and isntalled it form there. Once thaat was done I proceeded to installiion. Everything went fine up until getting into CWM. I am now stuck in a boot loop, constaltly showing the xpera free project logo, then the screen goes dark and this all over and over again. So I searched the net and forums, but couldn't find any one with this problem. Most people either get into CWM and from there can't get further, or they turned the phone on adn after using some application theirs system crashes, but nobody seems to have problems with CWM. you have to wait until the LED appears then you can press volume down (you can also try volume up or power button) to enter recovery....but i suggest you flash stock rom back first and make sure that your phone can boot fine...then flash custom kernel and flash CM10 in recovery...

Hmmm...i said flash stock ROM not stock kernel...if you phone boot fine using stock kernel then you flash fxp kernel (custom kernel) and boot into CWM...no need to flash CWM separately cause CWM is already inside custom kernel...

WTF... So I charged my phone first so I reach the recommended 85%... Meanwhile I redownloaded the CM10 if it wasn't a bad downnload or something, from the original website. Once that was done, I turned my phone off, turned flashtool on a connected my phone in fastboot mode. I then flashed the kernel with boot.img from CM, unplugged and turned the phone off, waitign for the logo, pressed the volume down button many times and ntohing. I tried multiple times, different buttons too. Still the same. What can I be doing wrong?

When I have the phone flashed with stock kernel I can get into the CMW recovery. Trying to install CM with the stock kernel is i guess not a good idea right?
EDIT: So I tried downloading CW9 if that wouldn't make a difference, but it's the same story. Once I boot the phone it just keeps looping from the logo to black screen, no LED lights up, nothing. What if I did a factory reset either from CWM or in the normally booted? Could that help in anyway?

Hmmmm...how many times did i have to tell you, you need to FLASH STOCK ROM first...stock rom has stock kernel inside it...flashing STOCK rom will factory reset your phone...it should make your phone like new...after your phone boot normally then you can flash custom kernel (fxp kernel) and boot into recovery using that kernel...then only then you can flash CM10 into your phone....

Hi guys,
Yesterday I finally got to instal a new ROM onto my phone. I've done this before so my phone was already rooted and had the bootloader unlocked. I decided t ogo with Cyanogenmod10. My build was 4.1.B.0.587. I used the tutorial on cyanogenmod wiki and done everything as was said, step by step. I can't get anywhere from here and have no idea what to do. If somebody could please help me, I would be very gratefull! Thanks
John

probably bcuz u used CWM located in phone storage & deleted it. happens.
to shorten here all, i advice u to use allways kernels (built in) recovery. (forget about xparts its onlx for locked bl ppl)
also if u want to go for a cm (10+) build try LX from here bcuz FXP is NO longer supported! they kleave us. also its very outdated/old/bad
if u flash (any) kernel CWM is inbuilt, so just reflash the kernel using fastboot (cmd commands) , then on power on press the vol up button moretimes!! to enter CWM (must work) i really advice u to use some LX build. (dont forget to wipe partitions bfore flash)

Okay guys, I'm really confused right now. I just couldn't manage to boot into CWM with CM, I tried many versions, none worked. I then applied the exact same steps onto LX and it worked perfectly, I was in CWM after pressing the volume down butto na few times. Now it's been almost a month since I did this and I wanted to change to a differet version again, so I wanted to try CM again, but it's the same thing, I can't get to CWM. Any ideas?
Thanks
