Disabling power & volume buttons for viewing pictures. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this has already been asked. I did search but could not find.
Using my S3 I know when viewing landscape mode to avoiding holding the phone in such a way that doesn't press the volume or power button.
Ocassionally I do make the mistake of accidentally pressing the button when viewing an image or a video but I've learnt to hold it right.
However I have friends and family that I show photos too and most the time when I pass them the phone they end up pressing either the vol or power button.
I was wondering if there was an app or a method to temporarily disable these buttons when viewing pictures or video, when I know I will be passing the phone around.
Shot in the dark, can xda help?

While viewing a video if you tap the power button once it locks the buttons out.

power button behavior, screen on/off

Would it be possible, and has anyone made, a mod to require a double press or long press of the power button for screen on? I have had my 3d since launch day and I finally can't take it anymore, nothing is more irritating than pulling my phone out of my pocket and the screen is already on and I have no battery left.
Screen time out? Never had that issue... Volume rocker wake? Idk

With my previous "HTC Desire" I was able to edit the file "bravo-keypad.kl" so that the power button does not turn on the screen ... check out this post if you want to try.

Hello,
you can try this mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334871
I use the fully LeeDroid ROM and there you can set the volume buttons or the camera button for unlock the screen. So you won't have your problem with the power button any more

[MOD?] Only be able to press capacitive buttons when they're lit up.

I was just wondering if there was a mod that would only enable the capacitive buttons to be pressed only when they're lit. For example, say I want to press the back button, i'd have to click on the capacitive button which would make the buttons light up and then i'd have to press it again (within 1.5 seconds or however many seconds you've chosen in the settings) for it to perform the action.
I believe this would be a very useful feature because the buttons on the s3 are very low and are easily pressed playing games in landscape mode.

[Q] Taking screen shot using the stock 4.0.4 ROM

Hey there
When I was in GB, I could easily take screen shots by pressing the home key and meanwhile press the power button, but after upgrading to 4.0.4 this method didn't work anymore,
Do you know a way to capture screen in ics rom without installing a third party program
vol down and power button will do and also you can press the power button bit long it will show u a option to take a screen shot
Try power button and home key this work for me (also 4.0.4)
Hold down power button and home button at the same time and keep it like that for 3-4 seconds. It will take a screen shot.

Camera Button - P769

Is there any way to set one of the physical keys as the camera button?

I don't understand why you would want to replace one of the physical buttons... You do KNOW we ONLY have volume buttons, home button and a power button? Right?...

Sounds like you're having a bit of "diarius" of the brain! now that's smart!
Seriously not sure you would want to do that but the menu button held down will get you to Google now so if it were possible I would start there.

The VGA camera in the front isn't very clear; gotta turn the phone around to take a good pic. Voice command doesn't work well outside. I was thinking of something like holding the power button while the camera app was open would = snap a pic instead of shutting the screen? :highfive:
Camera Zoom FX is a camera app. You can configure the volume up/down buttons as a shutter. There is also an app on the Play Store called Volshutter Camera, which allows you to configure the volume keys to activate the shutter.

Hello mensrius,
This is quite amazing, I am already using this feature with my p765 factory JB rom v20a. Pressing volume button (no matter up or down), while having stock camera app open, phone sets focus and snap a picture . May be you haven't tried it or this feature is missing in p769

How Do I Soft Reset?

I asked this in another forum, but haven't been able to resolve the issue. With other phones, holding down the power button and volume down rocker at the same time will force a reboot. When I do that with the Z2, I get a screenshot, but no reset. Someone suggested just holding the power button, but when I do that, all I get are the choices "Power Off", "Airplane Mode" and "Take a Screenshot". Can someone explain how I do a soft reset with the Z2?
Hold down the power button and volume up button until it vibrates 3 times or take the USB flap off and hold the red button

Thanks for the info! I wasn't even aware of the red button.
