... would this still be the phone to get over the SGSII? I'm not talking about sense vs touchwiz, i'm talking about raw power. How would the two phones compare running a stable nearly identical CM7? Can anyone (NO BIAS please) explain to me which phone has better capabilities?
I know I'm getting WAYY ahead of myself, but i'm still deciding IF HTC responded to their customers and unlocked the bootloader if I would get the EVO 3D or still wait for the SGSII, considering I'm sticking with either one for the next two years.
I've heard people say the SGSII has better raw power-- on the SGSII forum
I've also heard the some of you on this forum say the EVO 3D is better. Obviously, there is some bias involved and one phone is more powerful than the other.
I actually have some hope that HTC might do something about the bootloader. If this is the case, I have a really tough decision on which phone to still get. As for now, if the bootloader remains unlocked, its SGSII all the way

seriously why does it even matter? Say one phone is faster than the other. The specs are so close together that any speed difference would barley even be noticeable on a side by side. The difference would be nothing if you didn't have both phones in hand.
Really I think the biggest difference would be the UI, so debate sense vs touchwiz
Why does it matter what phone is faster?? Well thats a stupid question

No, it's a valid question and jessejames makes a very good point ... the specs are so close that any speed difference would be negligible from a user standpoint, especially if you're not actually doing a side-by-side comparison.
I'd even go so far as to say that the effective data rate differences between the various 4G transmission standards will have significantly more of an effect on apparent phone response times in many applications than any actual benchmark differences between the two phones.
I feel like the EVO 3d isn't much of an improvement over the EVO. Downgrade in camera department and no full 1080p recording. And still skimping on internal storage...not sure if the 3d screen is worth losing those other features....
I think ima wait for the sgs2 since the EVO 3d is the same as my EVO with a 3d screen and slightly better performance
After seeing the sgs2 vs HTC sensation it makes me wonder about the snapdragon processor....it doesn't compare in those performance test

Bump the processing power from 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz then double it, double the ram, bump the resolution to qHD, shoot 1080p in 2D, 720p in 3D, and that's not much of an upgrade from the original EVO?

Yea I believe what I wrote. I feel that HTC had to skimp out on **** to give us a 3d sscreen. If I could get the sensation on sprint then I'd get that. Better camera, more internal storage. Guess I'm not caught up in the 3d hype. Bought a 3d TV and only seen one movie in 3d on it.

I do believe you are just misinformed. The EVO is the Sensation just with 3d added. They both have a SLCD qhd display. Also, just because the Sensation's camera is 8mp does not mean it is better. The EVO is 8mp and the camera is much worse then many other phones that are 5mp.
You need to do some more research as far as MP's are concerned as well as the comparing the Sensation to the EVO 3d.
I believe I was very nice with my response. Other's might not be this kind to you. lol

Your basing camera quality on MPs. That's your first mistake, HTC has stated the camera on the E3D is much improved over the original evo. Why? Better lens, hardware, etc. MPs don't matter as much as you would like to believe. The 5MP camera on the iPhone is a perfect example. More on board storage would be nice but with 32GB mSD available and 64GB on the way I'm not too worried about it. Storage has never been an issue for me in the past and it won't be in the future.

OP, its going to come down to personal preference. Both of these phones have monstrous specs and will perform quote similarly. They both have rock star CPUs and GPUs and will be very closely matched in performance.

If you are even familiar with the actual specs--which it sounds like you definitely are not--then you have absolutely no understanding of what they mean.
This phone is a beast. Any performance difference between the two will be negligible bone-stock and even more negligible modded to the teeth.
Tell us, what did they "skimp out" on? The asynchronous dual core 1.2gHz cpu? The kick-ass new adreno gpu? the qHD screen that just so happens to also do 3D? A GIGABYTE of ram? Over a certain amount internal storage means absolutely nothing to anybody who knows better, and Evo3D is far past this amount.
Not to mention HTC build quality and dev community (now with official mfgr support). I would accuse you of holding specs in too high a regard over other more important things...but I don't think you even understand the specs enough to be doing that.
Someone gave you some koolaide and you drank it. You love koolaide.

This is yet another portion of your mis-information. You realize the two screens have differing resolutions, correct? Not a little difference either, but a vast 35% pixel difference. The Adreno 220 is I believe more powerful then the SGS2's gpu, but is also doing 35% more work with the higher pixel count that qHD brings to the table.
Also, pure processing tests did not show the sensation as weaker, it got what, 46MFLOPS? Not to mention the dual core is much more efficient on battery life then the tegra2 was.
Your points are all invalid as you simply don't include all the variables that create the differences.
Edit: I want to add my post was not meant as a defense of the E3D, as I'm personally seriously considering the SGS2 solely for its slenderness. But when you see posts that full of one sided information and wrong conclusions it's only natural to respond.
hi there!
i can get a discout on EVO 3d GSM,
you recommend the device?
i love 3d (used it on my friend's 3ds). how can i check im not buying the version with to large lenses and not the one with one of them smaller? (does it matters?)
thanks!
Of course I would recommend evo 3d gsm. I upgraded from dhd to evo 3d. Plus for me so far is the improvement in battery life. In addition the dual core , 3d (love to take 3d pics myself) , 1gig ram etc.... .
thanks
i hope the discout will be good. if not, i will wait to a phone with 720P screen (and maybe 3D )....
I am currently using HTC desire hd now I wants some change....I am totally confused between,HTC evo3d and sensation ..
can anyone help me which 1 is better ?
thanks

What he said. Both phones have great dev support on here, too. It's a matter of which carrier gives you the better rates/coverage in your area. Both phones are almost identical in form and function.
HTC Sensation has 768mb of ram, Evo 3D has 1GB. Sensation has qualcomm MSM8260 processor, while Evo 3D has an MSM8660 chipset (which is only different from the 8260 in that it also supports CDMA as well as GSM). The Evo 3D is the same thing as the Sensation except it has more ram, it is less laggy on the stock ROM, and it has awesome 3D capablities. On my Evo 3D I can take 3D photos, watch 3D movies, play 3D games, etc. SPB Shell 3D (a replacement launcher) even supports 3D on the Evo 3D. Sure the Sensation camera is 3mp more, but it only has one camera, and does not have the 3D capabilities. It all comes down to whether you want the 3D or not, whether you want the extra 256mb ram, and whether you care about being able to take 2D photos with 3 more megapixels. I personally don't think the 3D is a gimmick.

Hi all,
I have won an iphone 4 16gb from a lottery and i think i'll get it in second half of january. As you imagine i'll sell it and buy a high end android device. I absolutely want to buy evo 3d because of its ram but here someone offers me sensation. In Turkey, evo 3d is about $100-150 cheaper than sensation. I know evo has more ram than the other. So it should be faster because they have the same cpu and gpu... But why is this cheaper and why does somebody say it isn't really that fast? Please help me to persuade myself to get an evo
By the way, goodbye desire z
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I don't know who told you the Evo 3D "isn't really that fast" but...
1.2ghz dual-core cpu stock (mine is OC'ed to 1.5ghz) Snapdragon S3
1gb RAM
And the Adreno 220 GPU
Although those are just specs that anyone can look up, they're on par with almost every other highend smartphone out there right now. I'm running an experimental ICS rom and it's smooth as ****. It's not even in the final stages yet, so that says something.
It's cheaper because it didn't sell as anticipated.
I've gotten 4500 quads and linpack scores topping 108+ so yeah not that fast.
Wtf.
No its fast as hell and will do some serious multitasking with a gig of ram. Most evo 3ds can handle an overclock up to 1.782ghz the fact alone that the factory1.2ghz clock speed is actually detuned from the factory specs of 1.5ghz so technically "overclocking" to 1.5 is pretty damn near not overclocking.
I would say go for the 3d if you want the better phone.
Sent from my ice cream covered SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
With Root and OC cpu I get around 95-105 mflops on cpu and if I really crank it up around 3300+ on quad standard scores. It is super fast

Sensation has a much better camera, and is thinner. But the extra ram does make the 3d feel much faster. Atleast when I played with them both I didn't think the sensation felt any faster than my epic 4g, but I noticed quite a difference when I used the 3d. Both stock of course when I played with them. If you need a really clear camera then its the sensation you need. Other than that the 3d is the way I went because I have sprint, and because it seamed so much quicker.

Having both of these phones myself, I have to say that at this moment in time the sensation has better rom's which give better performance than the EVO3D, which is a shame because i always thought the evo would spank the sensation, and on paper it does, but the user experience so far with the evo has been disappointing on the evo when compared to the sensation, i don't do benchmarks because quite frankly it doesn't mean ****, the user experience is everything and from what i've seen the evo has a little bit of catching up to do.
I've still got 11 days to return my evo and get either a galaxy nexus or an XL, I'm a fan of HTC Sense so i am dragging my heels on switching devices, i just hope the dev's can pull out the roms which the guys doing the sensation have.
I'm running Insert Coin at the moment, probably the fastest sense rom on the sensation, alas it doesn't seem to cut the mustard on the EVO, my DHD is smoother than this with only one core.
I've unlocked both cores and i'm using the anthrax kernel v2.
If you want to know what i mean, then just swipe the carousel around and right at the end you will see jitters and stuttering, the sensation doesn't do this, if the evo was as smooth as the sensation is then it would be a no brainer, but at the moment it's just not the case.
Oh and for anyone about to say putting a senseless rom on their evo is smooth, well yea it is, but i didn't buy the evo to live without sense, i could have got a galaxy nexus for that.

Hardware wise, Evo3D trumps Sensation. It's just how it was marketed.
During that time, this section was flooded with assholes who were arguing newer phones like the sgs and other non-related phones with superior specifications and ROM support that it kind of killed it's tractions here (not excluding the babies who kept killing dev support here because of there constant demands for things they had no right to push since they weren't helping with the code).
On the outside, it was the best at release, but the competitors were selling their latest phones that weren't even available, and the end results was that people waited for them.
So now you see them trying to get rid of there stock in preparation for the next big thing. I still love my phone. I came from the Hero and knew what specs I was looking for. If we could get ICS running on that little machine, my horizon for this phone was, and still is, grand. It's capabilities will last me well into the next phase of phones until I'm forced to get a new one that will accommodate the new change in cellular frequencies.
the Evo 3d would be great coming from the DHD, IMO,
I just got my 3d a coupole months ago, upgraded from the original EVO 4G, I could have gotten any phone, or even waited for some of the new ones im sure sprint will release in the next 3ish months, and I am completely satisified, I find my phone to be rediculously fast, It takes whatever i throw at it with ease, especially when I have anthrax kernels.
And I feel like once the 3D officially gets ICS, things are just going to get faster and smoother..
Hi everyone, I'm considering getting a new phone and I'd like a 3D one...
I'm considering either the HTC Evo 3D or the LG Optimus 3D and though I read a lot about each phone's specs I'd like to get some of you users opinions about their performance...
Considering that I like to constantly update the latest ROMs including CyanogenMod I wouold appreciate any advice you can give me regarding this HTC, including about its size and daily usability and any pros cons you can think of...
Thanks in advance to everyone!
Evo 3D vs. Thrill
I actually had a chance to compare the LG Thrill with my Evo 3D and i was not impressed with the LG, the screen seems bigger because of the design but it you can definitely tell the resolution difference. The LG was a little slower at some tasks like web browsing, but that could have been AT&T's network. The 3D menu on the LG is kind-of cool but it got old real quick. All in all i think that the Evo 3D is the best of the two.
To be honest with you, if you like Cyanogenmod and 3D capability then your in for a let down. Cyanogenmod does not support the 3D function at least on the Evo 3D anyway. I don't know if it does on the LG or not.

What he said. No one has gotten 3D working on CyanogenMod or any AOSP based ROM yet. So if you want 3D you will be most likely sticking with the Stock ROM or a Modified version of it on both devices.
I have used 3D on both devices, and it kind of goes like this:
The resolution difference is apparent. The EVO 3D has a much higher resolution screen so images look a lot clearer in 3D. Now with that being said I beilieve the actual 3D EFFECT is better on the Thrill because of the lower resolution, as it causes less strain on the eye and it is easier to "ease" into the pictures 3D Effect.
Even though the effect on the thrill does look better i'd stick with the EVO 3D because the images are sharper, and I hate LG's UI on the phone.
Oh BTW if you like flashing ROM's like you said, Flashing ROM's on the Thrill is a *****. When I was doing it to my friends phone last week the instructions were something like: Take out Sim,and sd,and battery and plug device into computer while holding volume down and power and then start up a tool on the PC that launches the phone into it's Recovery Partition to flash a ROM
PAIN IN THE ASS! So if you like flashing lots of ROM's The EVO 3D is 10 times easier (with more developers too)
Edit: I was wrong

actually optimus 3d has the same processor as the galaxy nexus but at a lower speed. however i recommend the optimus if you want to game in 3d because lg seems to have better software support with a 2d to 3d convert(doesn`t do much) and a dedicated 3d mode. the games are much smoother in 3d on the optimus but a biut smoother in 2d on the evo. the evo has twice the ram, similar processor and slower gpu probably because of drivers(hope to fix with ics). the evo is phone the opitmus is a toy, the ui and software on the evo is countless times better but the lg may give better gaming performance. i have an evo and some of my friends have optimus`s and the evo is way better in day to day situations. the lg has crap battery life btw.

I agree with what everyone else had said. Plus, the Tegra 2 seemed like a slower processor to me compared to the 3D. I had a Motorola Atrix, same processor as the Optimus 3D, for about 4 months before getting the 3D.

lol. If you are going to post this on a Evo 3D forum the answers are going to be 100% biased.
So here are the pros and cons of each:
Evo 3D:
Premium Feel (very durable)
Sense Overlay
Higher Resolution Display
Faster Processor + Graphics
More RAM
1.3MP Front Facing Camera (720p)
Better Community
Optimus 3D:
Can Record in 1080p (2d)
Slightly Better Battery Life
mini HDMI Port
Has A 3D Menu (lets you edit video etc..)
Very Slightly Lighter / Slimmer (2 grams + 0.2mm)

Thanks, that was really useful! The details regarding the easyness of flashing new roms posted by notsointeresting made me make up my mind but I wanted to know from any phone users how do they feel on a daily usage because I think the HTC (as well as the LG btw) may be too large to use as a mobile phone, it kind of fits my "machine" requirements but I'm not so sure when it comes to considering the points of taking it with me when going out (e.g. will it be too heavy and big?) as well as using it for basic features like making a phone call (is it too complicated: can you access dialer/contacts with a single touch? + i got smallish hands lol)... I'm sure it's probably good for texting though as, with such a large screen, the touchscreen keyboard should be easier to use.
Anyway, these are the details you can't get from specs and descriptions so I'd really appreciate any input regarding this issue from any of you HTC users.
Thanks!

I don't think its too big at all. I've never had any issues with the size as far as use or putting it in my pocket or carrying it. I'm actually thinking a 4.7" screen like the Evo 4G LTE will be nice.

Well once you get through the initial rough stage of having to unlock the bootloader and S-OFF (if you follow the guides properly it should only take 20 mins) it's amazingly simple to install a rom.
As now we have Touch Recovery you can just download a rom and install it by touching "Install Zip".
Sense makes it so simple to interact with your phone (much more user friendly than vanilla android in my opinion). e.g. if you want to access a dialler there is a huge "Phone" button on the bottom of the home screen at all times
I've used many android phones varying in screen sizes before. (from 3.2" to 5") and to be honest the one that suits me best is 4.3" because it's perfect for doing most things like web browsing, texting and watching videos while not looking stupid in your pocket. (it just lies in the middle of the range).
I hope that helps you
