Unlock Custom Firmware - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi was looking for advice on a phone I bought, I am completely new to the smartphone thing but just took the plunge and bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Ebay. The phone is locked to a network, but the listing said it was easily unlocked. Anyway I took the phone to an unlocking place and the guy said he could not unlock the phone as it has custom firmware??.
After finding this site I did a bit of searching and found out I could unlock the phone by rooting it, I found a relevant guide, which says to use Odin software etc. I don't really want to brick the handset after the guy saying he could not unlock it, any advice would be great.
The phne was bought in the UK, but when I did a reset to factory defaults everything was in Danish, and I only got English language settings back after using babylon translator on Google to figure out what was going on.:silly:
Any advice would be great and sorry for being a total smartphone noob.

I've never tried the methods of software from the link below but it's not dangerous to say you'll brick your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360174
It's an unlocker tool that requires you to input your efs data and it'll probably patch it.

Thanks for the quick reply there :good:
So this efs folder is actually in my phone?, it has my IMEI number?,
When I done the *#06# thing I got a number would it be easier to just phone the provider who has the set locked, or will they say its got custom firmware as well, it's all a bit confusing really

There's an app on here called EFS Pro, either that or download kTool from the Play Store.
Here's the link for EFS Pro:

You need to extract the folder from the phone and put a file called nv_data.bin into the unlocker program.

[Q] Help required and info also...URGENT!!

Hi guys,
I got x10 i from my fri who is residing in London... Its ORANGE carrier over there!! when i started the mobile after inserting the sim, it asked for the SIM NETWORK UNLOCK CODE.
First i tried with 0000 and 12345, but didn't work out!!
So when browsed on this problem i came to know that i need to unlock it...but many sites are offering unlock codes but it around $50- - $60 ...
And many of my fri's said that i can do it for free if i do debranding or flashing!!
As i am very new to these gadgets i want to know about the terms debranding, rooting and flashing n ROM flashing!! (Which i came across after reading many threads in the forums).... Please explain me these tings or provide the links where the info is located...
Guys, Could you please clear the following questions?
1) Does debranding the mobile will unlock the phone?
2) Does flashing and rooting will unlock the mobile??
After browsing i came across the some links to debrand the mobile and i followed the following process!!
with this help i downloaded UK Generic firmware files!! i.e.,
UK Generic X10i Firmware (R2BA020) which contains 2 files 1 of near to 150MB and other of 15 MB
I did till 7th step!! i.e., deleting the files in the db folder and running SEUS and when i got files... I did back up of these new files and renamed the downloaded files (Generic firmware files) with the same name..
Then again i ran SEUS, it said that i have already the latest firmware and while downloading the files ... i replaced the files with those files above one at starting and another at the end ... then it said that Installation failed!!!
So i got worried of my mobile!! and then i checked my mobile but the am able to access my mobile.... But when i insert the sim i got the same problem SIM NETWROK UNLOCK CODE!!!
Could any one please help on this??? For the above process i spent whole half a day!! and when i visited some mobile shops its of no use... in pune!!
One shop guy asked Rs 2000/- I think it is waste!! could you please anyone help on this???
i think u should try tis
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746&highlight=flashtool
tis is called flashing.. it means flash an entire new firmware via flashtool
download the flashtool
and download ur choice of firmware
put the downloaded firmware in to the flashtool's firmware folder
boot into safe mode and then start flashing
i assume u know how to boot into safe mode? just like how u update via SEUS. pressing the back button while switching on
rooting simply means give u, a user super permission.. however, u might lost ur warranty.. but since u bought it from ur fren, i think the warranty ended as well??
i hope this helps..
Flashing is NOT unlocking.
One of the paid services is your only option for now. There are no free options for x10 yet. There were a few threads on this already & a few guys on the forum selling unlocks too if you do a search.
Search is your friend! ^_^

You should be able to get a unlock code off Ebay for around $10,they will need your IEMI number. There IS NO FREE SERVICE that offers unlocking codes.

Oh ... that's really bad !
Phone just bought, so you may go back to the store and ask for help or another phone there?
Ok, a hard reset will erase more than only the "unblock" code.
As you do not have any personal data on the phone, and you won't lose anything, you can just try to reset your phone.
Good luck !
Give it a try but Ive read that sometimes it wont work because its not personal data its a security setting.Hope it works but id be doughtful or there wouldnt be any point in putting one in if it was that easy to get rid of.If you know the firmware you have you could root it and format the system.

Take it to a Samsung service center with proof its yours sales bill etc and they reset your handset... Some do charge for this service..
I can't go to service..so a hard reset will delete all?
Or what i can do ?!

Well is your bad at the end of the day...
Look at it this way you may of found said fone it may of been stolen what ever the case may or may not be you can enter a service center with proof of purchase Samsung will unblock and unlock fones as said some change for this service all depends on your location....To me it seem strange you went out and bought your fone but cant get to or ship the fone to Samsung.
As it stands now you cant use that fone so even if you shipped it to Sammy you still be withoiut a phone no matter which way you look at it...
What exactly is a 'deblock code'? The code when unlocking the phone or a network unlock code? Just a curious passer by.
Lol bro,i'm now in another country and i can't go to samsung
Yeah,Unlocking code
So you bought the phone and left the country in the same day
Sounds like you robbed a banked. Are you talking about the device pin code or another blocking code like go locker?
Devince...
Yesterday i bought(at 12:00 Germany) and today i arrived in my country..
Yes,pin unlocker phone no go locker
Why don't you just root it and use one of the many apps that are available to unlock it? That's what I did and it worked just fine. If you do proceed to do it, make sure you back up your EFS!

If its a device PIN Lock then a Factory Reset wont work because a Factory Reset wipes personal data and a Device Pin Lock is a security setting. You do however have a few options,
1.Find your receipt and find a Service Centre in your country and HOPE (and probably pay) they will unlock it as Samsung are global.
2.Root your device with a CF-Root kernel and format it completely in "mounts and Storage".This formats System,Data and Cache but you need to know what firmware it has to use the correct kernel and not brick your phone.(differing reports of this working but mostly it does).
3.Root and use and app from the market as posted from the user prior to my post but once again the problem of the correct kernel pops-up.
You main disadvantage is that its a security thing. They are put there to piss people off.Only its a bugger when its the owner

It's an unlocker (with points, need to do a lane or something)
I think i will go to an service..
But,who i can do the 2 ? Cf root?
I'm noob...
You need to know the Firmware it has to match the kernel. The rest I can guide you BUT if you dont not know the Firmware or kernel you WILL BRICK your phone.

[Q] Help please, unlock S2 currently on Orange UK

I was given a new S2 on Orange (running ICS) which I didn't want or need, so I sold it. The person who bought it said she wanted an unlocked phone to use on another network and I told her she could get this phone unlocked, either for free, if she googled it (using a couple of apps that root then unlock) or from most phone shops. She bought it on that proviso.
I received a call from her today - she is complaining that she tried the "free" way - which didn't work, then tried a number of phone shops, every one of which said that the phone couldn't be unlocked.
She may have done the "free" way incorrectly therefore making it impossible for the phone to now be unlocked. I feel somewhat responsible but don't want to take back the phone now. I said I would call in to try to help her when I'm next in her area. Is there anything I can do to get the phone unlocked now?
Any help and advice would be very welcome and thank you in advance.
I doubt there is anything that can be done and the assistance you are asking may not be forthcoming from this forum.

Whoever tries to unlock the phone will need some basic knowledge in this area and needs to understand all the risks associated with this process. If you can tick off these two boxes just follow a few simple steps (just done that myself and can confirm it works fine):
1. Root your GS2 (plenty of threads on this forum)
2. Go to Google Play and search for "Galaxy S Unlock", the author is "Helroz".
3. Run the app from step 2. Go to "Unlock SGSII" tab on the top of the screen.
4. Tap on the first item:"Step 1 Backup files...."
5. Tap on the second item:"Step 2 Change lock-bytes", and wait until your phone restarts.
That's it.
No chance. If mobile repair shops can't unlock it, no way anything from Google Play (or anywhere else, Unlock SGSII included) will unlock it. Somebody is paying for an unlock code from a carrier.
u mite wanna chk dese links

Cheers everyone.
All done successfully - many thanks to all who replied to my plea for help.
i am having samsung galaxy s2 I9100 .i brought it second hand.i dont know that it is not factory unlocked.now i flashed my s2 to leaked XXLSJ 4.2.1.now my device is asking for sim card unlock code.what should i do.....plzzzz help
OK first time in this forum, (so please be kind!!)
I'm not a total newbie to android - Google Nexus One - CM7.2 and SGS CM9.
Currently :
S2 GT-i9100P
Android 4.0.4
Baseband - I9100PBVLPB
Kernel - 3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484
Build no. IMM76D.BVLPC
Was originally running 2.3.6 GB but updated via KIES to 4.0.4
Rooted with CF-Root
Yes, I have backed up my efs file
Yes. I have the dodgy emmc chip
NO!! Not bothered with NFC as probably gonna go CM10 when succesfully unlocked.
I've tried all the unlocking routes, free and paid (still waiting for several refunds!!). "Helroz" works, but if phone is restarted, have
to run app again to get unlock.
Does anyone have a permanent fix?
If it were for me, then no problem running Helroz every time, but it's for my daughter so want something permanent.
Going to go to a "phone shop" tomorrow to see what they can do....But much prefer to get it sorterd here with people that know and care!!
Thanks in advance
OK After MORE searching, finally found the thread for "GalaxySim Unlock 1.02" Duly downloaded and works a treat. I have thanked in that thread.

[Q] After update to 4.1.2 phone got simlocked and doesnt unlock.

hello everybody
Yesterday my phone asked me to update and i accepted it unfortunately.
I live in France, phone is bought here blocked by SFR operator.
One year ago i got the code to unblock from SFR and I unblocked it and since then i have used FREE, COSMOTE(Greece) and lately i m using BOUYGUES operator.
Problem:
After the update, phone got simlocked again and with my BOUYGUES sim it asks me for a "sim network unlock pin". I insert the code i had but it doesn't unlock it.
I called SFR and fun fact is that they claim that the unlock is permanant (they are not aware of this new issue) and the unlock code unique. I asked them the code to ensure what i had is correct and they confirmed... So code is 100% correct...
Since it was not working they told me to remove any sim card from the phone and do the following steps...
1 click on TELEPHONE icon
2 enter *#46744674 and press #
3 the code should disappear
4 then enter #7465625*638* and press #
5 you will now be prompted to enter the unlock code
6 enter the code NCK and press ok OK.
if code is good, phone gets unlocked
So while step 2-3-4 work fine, the #7465625*638*# disappears but step 5 never happens... There is not screen prompting me to insert the code....
I called Samsung after this and I told them everything i ve tried...
they proposed me to do this --> *#0111*CODE# and it will get unlocked... (super unfriendly french customer service hanged up on me)
I did it but nothing happen.. not even the *#0111*CODE# got disappeared like it happened with steps 2-4 above....
To me it looks like the new android 4.1.2 messed up everything....
Problem seems new... i found two posts in french describing the same problem with no solution but i cant post the links here.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for reading this
Yeah, root it & unlock it.

Issue in process of rooting the phone - to unlock the phone
Hi,
I have similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S II SGS2 GT-i9100.
My phone is UNROOTED.
After it was updated from ICS to Jellybean (upgrade via the air, not using Kies and not using Odin), I am also asked for SIM UNLOCK PIN.
The phone was originally bought locked to O2 UK network, then unlocked, but the unlock code used in past does not work now.
The problem is that in all places it says to root the device, and in order to root it, I am advised to create a backup copy of efs folder, and in order to backup the efs folder I need to have root permissions... - deadlock !
In additions, many guides says that in order to root the phone, I need to have only for phones that are SIM FREE, which brings me back to start - I will not be able to flush ROM/Kernel to root it as my phone is SIM locked...
Any suggestions that will help me unlock the phone?
Thanks!

You're very confused.
1) Root your phone. There are multiple methods. Search/read/learn & choose whichever one you think is best for you. The phone does not have to be 'sim-free' or unlocked or anything else in order to root it. As I said, you are clearly confused. You need to search/read/learn & not do anything to your phone until you're no longer confused, or you'll 'break' it.
2) Create an EFS backup using kTool from Google Play. Keep one copy of this backup on your PC, and another copy on the external SD card in your phone if you have one.
3) Unlock the phone with whichever app you want to use to unlock it.
Hello
I found an easy way to root it but i cant post a link... so google "[RESOLU] code deverouillage reseau" and you ll see the thread... (it is in french)
As user "gab34" says, i downloaded the proper zip file (in my case was XWLSD_root.zip) and put it in the sd card as it is (as a zip). (you have to subscribe to let you download the file :/)
Then i pressed up-power-home buttons until it turns off and on again.
Then i was in the recovery meny , and with the volume button i went down to "apply update from external storage" i pressed the power button to enter, chose the file XWLSD_root.zip, press again power button, installation will take place in ../ , press power button, the reboot now and power button.
The phone restarts as rooted and then you can use GALAXSIM to unlock it..
You download Galaxsim unlock for free, then it tells you if it can unlock and if so you pay 3 euros for full version and unlock it....
Try google translator and a french speaker if you need help with the site... It took me 10 minutes to do it...
If not, try to google how to root easily like i did with just a zip file in the sd card...
Hope it helps
Thanks but we kinda know how to do that.
Please don't (try to) post a link from another site, those sites get the info from xda anyway.

[Q] sim network unlock pin

Hello everyone, this is my first post here and I am in need of desperate help.
I have looked everywhere I could but (my bad) I am not into all this stuff at all. I am not familiar with ROMs Kernels etc. I just follow tutorials blindly.
I have a galaxy s2 bought which I bought in the UK. It was locked on 3 network. Later I moved to another country where I got it unlocked for about $35 but that still showed signs of 3 network (The 3 startup logo, 3 bookmarks in web browser etc), however the phone was unlocked now and picked up any network I used.
I noticed the phone stopped giving me any kind of updates and it was on andriod 2.0.1.
I looked up the internet on how to install latest updates for my phone.
Found out this guide and went thorough all the process: goo.gl/yJSga8
Everything went fine but when the phone booted up, it asked me to enter "sim network unlock pin" and now all networks are inaccessible.
I am pretty much stuck at this point. Found guides telling to root the phone and then installing apps like Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock by Chainfire.
I have tried it once and was near to kill my phone. (The yellow triangle appeared at startup and got stuck there. No boot.) I just re-flashed the firmware by following the first guide again and now the phone is like before asking for sim network unlock pin.
I have attached the screenshot of the info that you might need.
I am willing to pay $15 via PayPal if anyone can help me out to fix this issue. (I am a bit hesitant using the rooting method as I an afraid I might kill my phone. But if that's the only choice then I will go with it)
Please ignore if I sound really stupid as I really don't know about this stuff. Please ask me any details that I may have missed out.
Thank you very much!
Attached Info Screenshot
If you don't want to root, then you'll have to call your carrier and ask for an unlock code. Mine has that service at least, don't know about all carriers.
As far as solving your problem goes if your carrier won't help out... The thing that works for a lot of members here is to root, then use galaxsim unlock app, by xda member spocky12. Search for the thread.
That app requires root access... To do that, easy way is to flash philz kernel from recovery mode. Search up philz kernel thread here on xda and read up how to flash it
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
Hello hopper, thanks for the response.
I took your first suggestion but instead of calling the company itself I used an online service unlockliberty.com.
They charged me $20 via PayPal and almost instantly sent a code to my email address.
I entered the code on the phone but it gave me "Network unlock request unsuccessful" error.
Contacted support and they sent me a defreeze code and instructed me to restart, enter the defreeze code instead of the unlock code and then it will say "Network unlock request unsuccessful" and after that enter the unlock code. I did the steps and it worked like a charm! my phone is now unlocked.
I really recommend their services if you are in a similar situation.
Thanks alot!
