Does anyone still get screen tears? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Quite often when I'm using the android browser on my prime I get screen tears at the borders of the active browser right below the navigation bar. Does anyone still get this? I didn't know if this was a driver issue or if it was a hardware issue with my prime. I received my prime back in January when all the issues were going on so I figured I'd wait for a few software updates first (especially since the rma process apparently sucks). I'm also starting to get a bright spot on my white screen that I think has been called a MURA.
But back to screen tears. Do you still get them? Do you have a newer model prime and still get them? Just needing to check if I need to rma.
Thanks

Correction... Its not the whole screen tearing but I get this bright multicolored pixel line running between the nav menu and the browser menu. Not a whole screen tear. I also see the line at the bottom of the screen.

Screen Flicker

For the second time since I got my Prime yesterday, my screen has had a slow flickering fit. The soft buttons disappeared but still responded to touches, and the screen would flicker very tiny lines of color and slightly bounce at the edges. Anyone else experience this?

I'm not sure that it's a defect. I figure I'll give it some more time first. Also, it started happening after I installed 2 apps that weren't listed the market, which I sideloaded onto the tablet, so I'm wondering if they may have had something to do with it. I've since uninstalled them and will monitor the situation.

Wipe/factory reset it. If that doens't fix it, send it back for exchange/refund. I wouldn't want them trying to diagnose a wonky problem, get a fresh tablet.
Also, even though the flickering seems like it would be a hardware problem, the fact that the soft buttons disappear and the area turnaround black leads me to believe that it's some type of software problem, not a hardware defects.

I get it on some web pages and a lot on the bottom of the screen watching YouTube. I just started to get it while booting. It did a restart on me this morning. Factory reset sucks without nandroid. Asus, please let us root this....

I suspect that incompatible apps may have something to do with this. I sideloaded two unsupported apps and I got the flicker shortly after that. I uninstalled them yesterday and so far, so good. Also, I was getting a ton of reboots and crashes when I initially automatically loaded all of my phone apps onto the Prime. I did a factory reset and carefully chose my apps, and it's been much more stable since.

Thanks, but I'm talking about something different. It's a little hard to explain, but I wasn't complaining of flickering brightness. Rather, the picture itself would get all scrambled up.

Wow. So this EXACT thing just happened to me. I have no sideloaded apps and auto brightness is disabled. Over the course of several minutes, it went from a few glitchy lines to the entire screen and a complete lockup of the tablet. I held down the power button to reboot, and then came to find this thread...

I have the same problem. I had to reboot, since the tablet completely froze at one point with random lines across the screen.
Ever since I do see flickering of the Asus logo when booting but no more serious problems, such as a crash.
I will go on a two week busines trip outside the country and therefore womt return the TP - just hope it will not get worse.
That said, I am happy learn about a possible fix?

I have always had the glitching during bboot as well...but I've been staring at this thing almost non stop since the 22nd and this is the first time it has occurred. Dunno what's up but it makes me uneasy.

Hopefully it's nothing more than a graphics driver glitch that can be fixed with an update.

I am too, very uneasy with this issue.
Decided to do a last hard reset and if the flicker does not go away, I will return the TP tomorrow morning.
I hope that the hard reset will take care of the problem.
The boot up graphics flicker has been reported by others on another forum as well, they did note that it doesn't occur if you boot up with the Prime plugged in.
i've also noticed this problem, flickering/scrambling on boot during the ASUS bootup screen.. and i've also had quite a few random lockups, force closes and reboots... looks software related to me
firmware update this morning seems to have fixed the boot and browser flicker. Anyone else?

have not seen it after a factory reset, update this morning, and then two or three reboots. It was an addressed item in the release notes.
Software fixes are good!

Still getting screen flickering issues after the latest update..

So the latest update did correct most of the banding issues but im still having some glitches when doing some things like half the screen will go away for a second them come right back, it does this very randomly. i also noticed this when playing games like shine runner, it will completely lock up. I included a video of what its doing, its weird in the video it would only do it by using the mouse but when doing it on the home screen if the recent apps filled up all the way to the top of the screen it will do it every time whether I use the mouse or touch. I have only had any of the problems since ICS so i know its probably a bug, anyone else having these issues?

i have this same problem also. it mostly occurs when i'm using youtube. hope they fix it soon because its annoying!
have the same issue it does it for me as well in Google talk, but YouTube is the worse i get a constant flicker for like 2 seconds.
Same for me too, I think I read that Asus stated it was some of the Prime's hardware drivers having incompadability issues with Ice Cream Sandwich (hence no problems with Honeycomb). Anyhow, I believe they stated that they should have an update to fix the issue in February...hopefully early Feb.!

Anybody pinged Gary Key or ASUS about it?

Ditto, only rarely and seemingly random but I feel it might be after I've just plugged or unplugged the dock.
Similar issue here though it manifests as very thin bands covering only the left 1 inch of the screen and only when scrolling up and down. This is not a constant problem, but not rare either. Shows up in either orientation. I also occasionally get artifacting usually in the form of a momentary white triangle when I use the task switcher button.
Both of these only started occurring after the most recent update: .11 on 1/17. Before that I had never noticed any screen problems.

I have this bug like you... This bug is on ICS. But my bug is like triangle on screen
Just wanted to be added to the list of users having this problem. The longer i have this tablet, the more issues i run into.
Hope a fix comes in the next few weeks, or Amazon get's it back.
Wanted to bump this thread because it seems like an issue some people are having, but it's not widespread enough that it's gathering the attention that the GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth issues are getting.
Personally I'm getting the diagonal screen flicker on the home screen, especially when pressing the recent apps button. Someone noted in a thread somewhere that this is most common when there are a lot of apps stocked up in there. It also seems to happen a lot more frequently when the dock is plugged in, even without touching the recent apps button - it just happens randomly.
Has anyone tried a factory reset to assuage this? That's probably my next step.
Edit: Come to think of it, I didn't notice any screen flickering until I plugged my tablet into the dock for the first time. Can anyone else with this issue confirm they've been using a dock? I might try something like a factory reset with full battery on both dock and tablet, maybe that'll make a difference...input, please, someone
Still having the same issues after todays update...
Ok, so...apparently, when I touch the recent apps button or when I click down on the mousepad, that's when the flicker occurs. When I just touch the touchpad without clicking, the flicker doesn't happen. What the hell? At least that's got me pretty well convinced that it's a software thing.

Before the update everything was fine. No issue at all. It starts for me after the update. Also made my GPS worse. Wifi is the same (they just change the signal icon to look that my connection is full). So far no reboots or lockups.

I have the screen flicker on
1. Youtube
2. When I am using the dolphin live wallpaper (one that came installed stock)
AS of now youtube is still crashing
Im having the same issue. I just bought my prime yesterday and noticed it while running the SKYRIM live wallpaper. I don't have a dock either so i can confidently say that's not the cause to MY problem (can't say for sure about others) and it happens when pressing recent app list or the settings in the bottom right corner.
Not functional threatening but visually annoying. I love the TFP though I have it next to me at work and im ITCHING to just play with the damn thing. We need more atttention to this.
I just started getting a screen flicker about every 10 seconds with a live wallpaper on. They must have "fixed" the problem with the last update.
Anyone found any solutions for this?
looks like the latest update fixed it, will know for sure after i put it through its paces.

Strange white dots on the screen, dead pixles?

Hello
Yesterday at night when I was playing "another world" I noticed 2 unusal dots. The first one just above the search button does indeed move everytime I rotate the phone. Everytime I rotate the phone to left the dot appears but when I rotate it to the right, it comes back again, WTF? Anyone have this kind of issue? I have attached the pictures. Anyway to fix it?
EDIT: It doesn't seem to be dead pixles, it something else but I dont know what it is...it's moving when I rotate the phone and AFAIK dead pixles does not move.
Something else strange I have noticed is that everytime I close an app by clicking the "home button" for example Angry birds, the sound is still there. I need to close via the task manager in order to make the sound disappear. Not the sound of the game but a strange sound is still left
EDIT2: Is it possible that is water? Because I installed invisible shield some day ago...maybe little water got under the screen and is "floating"?
It won't be "water" cause water under/on the screen would never "rotate" with screen, I guess it's some "background" process that to monitor some action, and a minimum GUI was "1 pixel". So it a white dot

Ah oke I was scared it was water. So there is no way to get rid of it? Its normal?
Did these dot only appear while you play this game or always on your display? Try to make a pure black(#000000) picture and view it as Full Screen mode, if it always appear, then it maybe some social apps or monitor like face recognition or gesture recognition services. If it only appear in these game, it maybe some social tools integrated in your games or cheating tools.
I guess it's posterior one, so just leave it.
If it's always exist, and you ARE a GEEK, then check every PROGRAMES on your Razr and figure out which/what perform this
If you're not a geek and it always exist, try to backup your system and data, then do a Factory Reset. Everythings goes well means it was some issues within some Apps you installed, If it still there, then it must been some issues in your integrated apps or some ROM issue
you can use es task manager's screen checker to check for dead pixels, it can also kill task, and manage startup tasks. I find it faster than razr's built in task manager.
I have no idea what that little white dot is, I also noticed it when I got my Razr back in November. On the bright side I can tell you that out of 4 Razrs I've had and my girlfriends 2 all 6 of them have had the white dot in that same spot. I don't think it's anything to be worried about. Also, neither me or my girlfriend use a screen protector that requires a solution to adhere so you can rule that out as well.

I just tried a pure black picture from the app "Dead pixel Detect and fix" and the white dote was still there. It is not just in games it's always there but most visible when there is a black background. I reall have no clue what program I should check, I thought it was watchdog tasker but I unistalled it and it's still there. I am using stock Rom 2.3.6 651.167.21.NonEFIGSretail.en.EU
Is there a way I can take backup when I am not rooted? I have not rooted the phone yet.

That means you have dead pixels. The other one at the corner of the screen is the shiny reflection from the phone design.
Bring it to a service center for an exchange, it looks like a big chunk of dead pixels at one spot.

I don't know if you can take the screen protector off and swap it. I don't use one don't like them. Especially the wet install ones. Water and electric do not mix. Ever. Even in tiny amounts.
If it doesn't bother you just leave it. I'm just saying I wouldn't accept it. These devices are way too expensive to have any kind of defect however small.

I agree. I will definitely push the store to let them exchange it for me, even if it's one pixle a phone for 600$ should not have any damaged. About the screen protector **** it, if they exchange the phone for me I wont use one anymore.

[Q] Screen Burn-In - Skype?

Hey Guys,
I have had my Galaxy S3 for around 4 months now, and I often use Skype to chat. Skype doesn't seem to allow the Display to time-out, so this often means that the Display is left on a static image for long periods of time. I didn't think this was going to be a problem, until recently I noticed that during one of the times I have fallen asleep whilst on Skype, the screen has been burnt and now I can see the display picture and Skype buttons burnt into my screen, and once you see that sort of thing, you can't un-see it.
So I was just wandering; Has anyone else had problems with screen Burn-in? Any ideas on how to resolve this? Would this be covered under warranty?
I am currently trialing an app that claims to fix screen burn-ins, but I am doubtful. Still worth a go non-the-less. I wouldn't be so hacked off, had there been some kind of warning from Skype or Samsung that there was even a possibility of this happening, as I was under the impression that this wasn't a common problem nowadays, I never had this issue with my old HTC Desire S.
Regards,
Logic_
Yeah it is Samsungs Display Technology it has the burn in issues. That is sadly a fact.

please ask questions in the correct section
In nearly all cases you dont actually see burn-in but ghost image due to display technology.
That problem also persists in Plasma tv's and old crt screens.
Such apps are usually capable of diminishing the effects to a level which is not noticeable.

I have the same thing - burn in on the screen - in my case it's from Opera Mini. The menu of Opera Mini in the bottom of the screen is burned in. Also I have burn in from Status Bar. I tried a lots of apps that have a goal to solve this but non of then actually did anything.
Like stated above it is Samsungs Display Technology that has those issues. IPS LCD screens do not have that problem.
