Was gonna post this earlier but i fell asleep after work this morn. lol but anyway i headed to work as usual around 9 to make my shift. I turned on my pandora and now that i think about it it loaded alot faster than it normally does on 3G (when its not congested) anyway a song came on that i wanted to thumbs down and change when i unlocked the phone i noticed it had 4G service. Which was a BIG surprise to me as sprint is very slow to upgrade anything around any area i ever live in lol. but i'd say bout a 4th of a mile down the rd it dissappeared and i didnt get it anymore. On the way home i also search around that spot and i never reconnected. Now i know that Verizon has LTE here and AT&T is suppose to (never actually seen it) is it possible that sprint is stepping up its game? sprint is suppose to have wimax here and in my home town of Madisonville KY as per the site and on my 3D i could never connect at all to this day. I know that we have like 6-9 upgrades coming to the system on the site but that has said that for awhile. so my question is how did this happen? Could i pick up verizons and once it realized it was a sprint phone it booted it? or is there any explanation anyone can give to how it happend and how i can get it to happen again?
Where is Evansville were you able to find it? I think the Evo is only able to get LTE on the 1900 band while Verizon's is on 700, so I don't think it's possible to roam on theirs.
I was up there for awhile last year and surprised at how well covered they with WiMAX.

yeah i have never been able to get connected to wimax here at all. and a buddy of mine wit the SII cant get it to connect either and it dont matter where we are in the city.
I found the signal on 41 north right next to Roca Bar now that i think of it. i was right next to the tower (not sayin that has anything to do with it cuz idk who's tower it is)
Evansville is in the rollout with Indianapolis, Kokomo, Bloomington, etc etc...we are the 2nd phase which is underway w/ projected official launch in Nov give or take a month.

for the Indy market they are not expected to have contractors sent out till August with the first sites starting to come online sometime in September....
I can't find any info either. But I think it kinda a joke how Evansville gets passed up all the time its the 3rd largest city n the state yet small 1 horse towns like Bedford get it way b4. Wtf?!?

but those are closer to Indy than Evansville is....they go for the main market and spread out around it....much easier to do than jumping to only doing the specific city and thats it...

I think that's close to where they had the WiMAX tower, it was just west of Columbia & 41 and the area east of there where I was getting a good signal.

hah, yeah Evansville does usually get the shaft but iirc they actually are a test market for a few things though. I just double checked on clear's website and it looks like wimax should still be working there too. It's usually impossible holding a signal on the outside of their coverage areas but my Evo 3D has no problems holding 4G, and the antenna on it was slightly worse than my original Evo 4G.

It says they will be ready by 2014, but with no specific rollout dates for my area, Michigan, I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months, once they get a nest gen phone like the One X or something similar. Verizon has had working 4g for over a year in my area now. There's no way I'm waiting another 2 years to get it here, and have dial-up speed 3g in the meantime. I gave Sprint 12 years of my business, and I hate to leave, but in today's world data is everything, and I need that to be able to do my job.

The sad parts:
- I live ON the water across river is Canada industrial district. I'm on there towers ALOT. Out here everyone roams there cause they push out more then us. Only affects sprint customers though.
- There is a working 4g WIIMAX tower about a mile down the road, that only pushes out to about 4 blocks.

Looks like Memphis starting June 2012!! If it is anywhere near the speed of Verizon's LTE at my house I'll be stoked. My brother in law had is new Moto Razor here last weekend so I fired up the speedtest and it was 25.8 down and 14.6 up. That is 3 times faster than comcast in this area.

My dad used to be a technician for Sprint. He lost his job due to downsizing by Ericsson. It's a shame because he was probably their best technician in the DFW area. Several of his fellow technicians would call him if they needed help.
I'm pretty sure the WiMax roll out is no indication of how LTE will roll out. Sprint used Clearwire's in-place WiMax network as their 4G network. I was lucky enough to already have Clearwire in this area. The only tangible advantage I had was the fact it was faster than public wifi. I don't expect LTE to reach Wichita Falls for at least a year.

Bill credit? I'm on the Westside, too - this is good to know. How is everyone's general call reception? I drop calls like CRAZY. Was hoping that the new radio/firmware would have fixed it - but it didn't. The day I upgraded from the OG EVO, I wasn't having issues...so makes me wonder if its really the network upgrade that's at fault.
If you call sprint and be polite ( during the day is better ) and complain alittle they might offer a bill credit to keep you happy. They are having alot off capacity issues right now in indianapolis area. They have neglected the area for so long they are behind. They also are starting the preps for network vision in a few areas on the westside, so depending where you are it could be few diffrent things.
Yes they will tell you that they will give you a credit and tell you it should be resolved by the 31st of Oct. With their latest announcement hopefully we should start to see some improvement over the next few weeks. I live on Westside close to Avon and yesterday I got no texts for 3 hrs then I got like 20 in 1 min. lol.
my service in Indy (I live in Carmel) has been really sporadic, and actually quite terrible in my house. I can't wait for updates. also, with regards to no texts for 20min, etc, just restart the phone and your service should be restored.

I was up in Munster this past weekend and got my 1st taste of LTE. I think its very new up there and is only a fraction of what it will be...just let me say, be very excited to finally get LTE this winter
According to Sprint's press release from a few days back, Indy / Carmel should be 'launched' by the end of the year, or "coming months" in sprint parlance. S4GRU has stated that work will begin next month at some point in the market. I'm not a premium sub, so I don't have access to exact dates for exact sites. Also, Sprint said in their release that you might be able to pick up 4g signal while their contractors are working on upgrades, so many here in this thread may be seeing signal starting to pop up occasionally in the next few weeks. Start thinking about switching your 4g settings back to CDMA/LTE. Unfortunately for me, I'm in Bloomington, which wasn't in the 100 markets that Sprint's press release mentioned, so LTE won't be launched here by the end of the year. However, my speeds are, for the most part, passable and I don't have speeds worse than dial-up, so I'm fine with waiting. OP - which part of north-east side? Any particular suburb? I'm well familiar with that part of Indy.
Was in the Castelton area but now on West side by Avon. If I'm correct according to their latest release we should be able to use some of the LTE.....I don't care if its 2meg down...better than 128k

I just don't get why they are rolling LTE in so many smaller cities. Goshen and Elkart Indiana are on the list, but not Portland, Ore. I guess they are finally adding Chicago.
It probably makes more sense to not overload the system with a glut of users from the most populated cities, but it would make sense that most users are in those cities so you should make them happy.
At this point I just hope they add Portland before next year.
thanks for sharing the link

Well you woulda have thought with all the major events that come to Indy and have in the past few years like Superbowl, Indy 500, Brickyard, Final Four, Sweet 16, Next gen comic con or whatever its called and a host of other things we woulda had functioning WImax years ago but we only got partially functioning before they made the switch to LTE. Its Sprint....that should be all thats needed to be said! lol I feel your pain though....I totally expected us to be late next year for LTE.
Feels like Denver isn't of any importance to sprint whatsoever :'(. Still waiting for some type of news and nothing.

Of course even in the cities where they already "have coverage", it's so sparse it does very few people any good.
I'm north of Dallas, and there's one zone I drive through maybe once a week where I can get 4g for a minute or two.
But if they put 1 LTE cell each in several more cities they can hype how many cities they've now gone live in.
They got till June 2013 to get 4G in my area or i'm out...I dont even see Orlando on that list of current cities that are under way but Palatka Florida is lol,WTFBBQSAUCE!..That honkey ass town dont even know what LTE is...

I was looking at this some what similar list and it wasn't there http://newsroom.sprint.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2382
But cool none the less but Palatka is still a honkey ass town that should be on the very end of any LTE list
Lancaster, SC is the only SC sight I've seen yet. This is BS!

Yeah, there's a difference there, and I'm not sure why. Orlando should be one of the first getting worked on. It's already been announced before this.

I drive all over the state and look non stop every day from Jacksonville down to Ft. Lauderdale and never even see a crane or anything working on a tower like you see from users on the s4gru site.
I hope they are working on it man and I hope we get some love in Apopka this time.Never really got Wimax up here north of the 429
Hell Yeah ...... Knoxville, TN within next 3-6 mths
about damn time.....
My area looks to be getting some love soon.
I've had the original Evo4G for 2 years and 4 months now. It has always been rooted and performs flawlessly and does everything I ask of it. When I saw the EvoLTE was coming out I really wanted one and I was/am eligible for an upgrade. I decided to wait a few months for the kinks to get worked out of the phone before getting one. Sprint offers the LTE for $99 presently and I'm tempted to grab one.
In the last few months I haven't been reading the EvoLTE forum but started reading everything a couple of days ago. I don't have a problem with the people who are critical of the LTE and are leaving it for a Samsung. The Evo4G is the best phone I've ever had and is the first HTC phone I've owned. As I said, it does everything I ask of it, is reliable, and I know everything about it.
My question to those who like their LTE's is this: Should I upgrade to the LTE?
I'm not willing to spend what it costs now for a Sprint SamsungSIII, $199-249 and have no idea if I'd like the phone if I did. I am concerned about owners here who tell of the LTE's Sense not working properly, of data problems, rebooting etc. I've never had 4G in my area and Sprint doesn't even have my area in AZ on the list of upcoming LTE service. I've paid that damn $10 monthly charge for 3G only which annoys me since I own a 4G phone that Sprint doesn't supply 4G service for. I can deal with continuing to pay the $10 for no 4g or LTE but I don't want to get rid of a phone that stays connected always, has a good download speed locally on 3g, and always works, for an EvoLTE that doesn't always work and continues to have problems.
So I guess I'm asking for encouragement to upgrade to the LTE. I'm not going to leave Sprint, the true unlimited Data is the most important feature they offer and I need the several Gigs of data each month that I continue to use. What do you owners have to say?
Thanks~
Get the EVOLTE My dad has an og Evo that I rooted and played with and the difference is just amazing. We compared side by side the stock roms and its night and day. Data speeds were better, apps launched much quicker, the camera took pictures faster and higher quality, and the list just goes on.
Don't listen to the naysayers on here, the new evo is awesome. There have been some LTE issues for some but I'm in the same boat as you with no LTE in the foreseeable future in my area.

this phone is dope.. put this phone next to the phone next to the og evo and u will see it smokes the og evo in every way.. i had the og evo.. the evo 3d and now the evo lte.. i never had 1 single problem with this phone.. its beast! :good:
I also had the original for over 2 years and it IS an awesome phone. That said, if you are in a good signal area, the lte will run circles around it. Very comfortable to use and fast. I'm on MeanRom with mine, rooted and s-off. 3g signal reception is a full 2 bars down from OG and like you, I'm not gonna get 4g anytime soon. If you never roam in areas where signal is down to 1 or 2 bars you'll do fine. If you go into areas like that and making calls or receiving data is important I would wait a while. Personally,I hunt in remote areas a lot. If I'm going for more than a day,I just switch back to the OG for the trip and switch back when home. Good luck with your choice......

Honesty, my reception improved over my dads Evo... By a noticeable amount. We live in the boonies and also hunt a lot and he depends on me to get the calls on my phone because his phone doesnt even ring. It depends on where you live I guess.

as much as i like this phone id say check out the optimous g its a really nice phone overall already cracked. and just gonna be a matter of time before some roms start flooding on to it but thats just me i want it but my girlfriend wont trade me lol.
I would definitely say upgrade to the LTE. It's far better than the previous EVOs in every way, as others have mentioned. I'm one of those who will probably be switching to the GS3, but it's more for the experience of trying something different than what I'm used to over the last three years.
Thanks to all of you for your replies. I'm really leaning towards trying the LTE. My home is in a rural area outside the city and I have excellent 3G coverage. If I can have the same result with the LTE, root it, be able to operate on wireless, and have the "Hot Spot" as I do now on the OG 4G I'll be very happy indeed.

I went to the Sprint website and looked at the Optimus. It looks sweet, my phone before the Evo4G was the LG Lotus. It was a great phone for it's era and never gave me any problems. I don't want to spend $199 for a phone at this time, the $99 for the LTE is in my price range.
Thanks for the suggestion, let us know how you like the Optimus if you get it.
If you want the evo is 99cent look for the tread that has the link.

I clicked on the link and it came up with: Access denied:
"You may be trying to access a private offer or shopping area on sprint.com. Please confirm that the link you entered is correct."
I'll look for a thread you mentioned, thanks!

I placed the order using your link. It went through as I am a long time customer. The only odd thing was after placing the order it gave me a confirmation number which I used to check on "my order". The page that came up said, "This order must be manually processed" so I'm not sure what that means.
Do you know if anyone using that link has received their phone yet? People were placing orders around 10 days ago, they should have received their phones by now. Another person on the other forum wrote that he got the "Order must be processed manually" also, he hasn't posted again saying if his phone was shipped and was delivered.
thanks!
I haven't looked, but wasn't that special for black Friday? Or cyber Monday?

On the Private Store page it didn't say anything about Black Friday or it being Cyber Monday or anything special. I messed up because the discounts they give you end up with a $49 credit you can spend as you make the order. I didn't notice this until after making my order and then went back to read other posts on the other forum and a few people talked about using the $49 credit to order accessories.
Oh well, if I get the phone for almost nothing I'll get over not spending the credit.
best,
DC
The manual thing is common for the Sprint private store. I got the evo on white for my wife it took like 4 days after the order was placed. I think it took a while because I ordered on Saturday night. She loves it. I score big points thanks to that website. She thinks I bought it at 200 bucks. I (it was free) just don't tell her.

Came from the OG EVO to the LTE recently and I love it. No complaints here

Don't get the EVO LTE over the GS3. If and when you get LTE in your area, you will regret it.
Stick with the OG. Coworker is doing it and does just fine. Getting the ELTE is really just about ICS improvements and to be honest, there isn't that much if you happen to use custom ROMs on the OG. Plus, he gets WiMax where I'm stuck on 3G LOL (depends on your service area of course, but we have a WiMax tower across the street). I actually still use my OG at home with SWAG on it. Works great.
IF LTE is not going to be available before your next contract (2 years if you buy evo lte), then I would upgrade to the EVO LTE.
My main gripe is the LTE connection issues.... it's incredibly frustrating knowing there is 5-15 Mbit data speeds available... but to get them you really have to fight with the phone's software to access the LTE at times.

We never got 4G service in my area of Arizona. Sprint doesn't even list us on future areas for LTE service. Strange, we're a metropolitan area of over 1 million and never even got 4G. :crying:
It's safe to say there will not be LTE service in the next two years so the EvoLTE will be a good upgrade for me on 3G only.
thanks!
