Try downgrade Flashtool to v0.8.5.0 & try flashing tha phone... Dont hestitate to drop feedback brov!!!
using flashtool just flash kernel only...no need to flash system files and etc....you can flash stock kernel (inside tft files) or flash custom kernel that come with pre-rooted and CWM....
I'm trying with 0.8.5, 0.8.6 and 0.9 flashtool. all I need is kernel and excluded everything but kernel and error is one frop post above
Why are you trying to install MT11i kernel on SK17i? That's where it goes wrong.

If you want to root 4.0.4 you first must flash kernel from 4.0.3 version. But, SK17 has no 4.0.3 version and solution is to flash with kernel from neo. There are a lot of tuts with these steps but I can't flash bloody kernel in order to root my phone

Stop disturbing yur self about dat dude.
I've just flash EXtended kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694027

because this kernel is based on 4.0.4 one how much this mod is similar to nonmoded kernel from 4.0.4? except to add root and recovery

I'm not completely sure, but i dont think you can put Neo's kernel on XMP... That was possible only for those phones that got 4.0.3 update (way before XMP,LWW and others got their 4.0.4).
If your bootloader is locked, you have to go the long way around, flashing .42/.58 GB, root it, prepare for ICS (to keep root on ICS) and then flash it to ICS, keeping in mind not to erase user data.
If you have unlocked bootloader, just put prerooted kernel (Rage, Krsh, Mesa, Extended kernel etc...) in fastboot (i think).

I suggest you use search before asking someone to explain it to you... There are couple of threads that explain both methods of bootloader unlock (official and TP).
With official method, you're losing your warranty... If you dont plan to put custom kernel/rom, you shouldnt do it, since there is way around it with locked bootloader(mentioned above).

Hello All
This is a guide to install the latest version of Android 2.3.4 - MT15i 4.0.1.A.0.283 Global on your NEO and install root access.
Please note it does not install DooMLoRD's kernel, but uses it to root your phone. This is a workaround until the source of 2.3.4 is released and a new kernel based on 2.3.4 can be released. You will also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
1. Backup your data. (Just in case!)
2. Download the FTF file from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/DGV8GLT1TP
(Thanks to sdk16420 for uploading the update files and thomasafca for making the FTF and uploading!)
3. Flash the FTF file with Flashtool. Unselect 'wipe user data' to preserve data and settings. (You can get flashtool from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012)
4. Restart your phone and turn off. The first time loading will take a bit of time.
5. Download the boot.img from this thread:
[KERNEL][NEO] DooMKernel [Rel: v08][Dt: 01/Sept/2011][FW:4.0.A.2.368]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197263
Thanks to DooMLoRD.
7. Save the boot.img in the folder with fastboot binaries (fastboot.exe file and other files)
8. Turn off the phone and start it in fastboot mode.
9. Use this command:
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
10. This will not install the kernal, but boot the system with this kernal and allow it to autoroot and install SuperUser.
Once this is done, turn your phone off and restart.
You phone will then reset and have root access and 2.3.4!
Enjoy
different method

It was obvious that the latest kernel for 2.3.3 would be used for 2.3.4 as well.
Look at the kernel version numbers for 2.3.3 4.0.A.368 : 2.6.32.9-perf and 4.0.1.A.0.283 : 2.6.32.9-perf.
The conclusion?
I have just finished installing 2.3.4 and DoomKernel v8. Well... it works. So no need to make a new kernel.
What's the point of this?

That you can root your new FW like that too, should you not want custom kernel.
I'm confirm that. Doomlord v8 kernel works well to 2.3.4 firmware
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
I guess I am more cautious. It may be the same, but I'd prefer to wait untill the source code is released. Or is there a way to check if both kernal's are the same?
Same kernel version?
The source is already released...
For 2.3.4? It's released?
This user posted the Doomlord's Kernal does not have WIFI working. I was just going onto the side of caution, so people can have stock ROM that's just rooted, until it has a wider release No bugs then or unforseen issues.
Still not seeing that it is the same kernel...
And Doomkernel does not cause wifi problems, its SE FW that has this problem, it merely shows out more evidently with tweaks and additions in DoomKernel
---------- Post added at 01:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ----------
Discard that, despite the same version number... I started to have wifi problem as well. Must be some setting in DoomKernel as to what exactly...
i dont get it anymore, will doomkernel work on 2.3.4 or not? (not only root)
and if you have already doomkernel on 2.3.3 can you still update to 2.3.4?
Yes you can update, and yes the kernel boots, works but without wifi.
DoomLord has done quite some changes to networking in his DoomKernel. I had certain problems with my wireless router in 2.3.3 as well, but now with 2.3.4 wifi just stops working at all.

If you want use "rootxperia" that mean you have bootloader already open, and that mean you have partically already "the magical root"
Why do we need root, a rooted phone one more time!
It sounds funny!
Its a joke.
But the point is..."we dont have prerooted 2.3.4.img yet"..

Is WiFi also not functioning using the ClockWorkMod method?
Everything works superbly well. I used this Global 283 ROM ftf:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KWNWTH47
I cleared Dalvik Cache/Cache/User Data/Battery Stats first (still had CWM from DoomLord V8 on 368), then ftf via Flashtool, then NeoRecovery Image (boot only not flash!), then Rootexperia.zip via temporary CWM.
I then removed some of the naff apps using ES Explorer. Not that this is entirely necessary of course. Just tidier!
Really happy with it. No problems or funnies at all. And I'm a picky SoB...
(The trick I learned from previous phones and my own ROM cooking is to clear everything before flashing. A clean deck, as it were.)
So basically I tried to flash Ice Cream Sandwich onto my neo. I cant find the exact thread I used now but I remember flashing the kernel then installing the .zip. Then the phone would either get stuck in a continous boot loop for freeze on the xperia logo.
I then tried different kernels which none worked, then I used a different rom which didnt work and then I managed to install the ftf file for the original rom on my neo which was MT15i_4.0.A.2.368_HK , when I turned my phone on I was asked to update so I did and my phone turned off and it wont turn on at all. It is rooted and I had unlocked the boot loader.
Thanks for the help.

Now after you flashed that fix your phone is being recognized as neo, so I'm not sure what would pc companion do when it see your neo with ICS, as it knows there is no ICS for neo.

Than you are allowed to unlock your boot loader. This doesn't mean that it is already unlocked.
I unlocked my boot loader via test point and rooting status still says unlocked allowed.
Best way to test is flashing a custom kernel.
Choose a kernel compatible to your current android version. ICS kernel for ICS android and GB kernel for GB android.
Take a look at the stickys. You will find a description how to flash a kernel and which kernel is for which android version.
Good luck.

Whatever motorazr said is absolutely correct.. just flash a custom kernel and if it gets flashed that means your bootloader is unlocked.. If it dosnt then unlock your bootloader officially.. Its given on sony's side about unlocking.. Check it..
And if you are flashing .ftf file it will change your firmware totally.. Custom kernel is different.. Stock. Ftf files are different.. Go to sticky thread in neo v development section, for tutorial about flashing kernel..
Hope this meets your need..

If you really flashed night elf kernel than your boot loader is unlocked!
What program did you use, flash tool?
Give us a log cat from kernel flash that we can take a look. Or make a screenshot from your phone settings showing android version and kernel version.
Look at my screeny.
No need to root your phone with doomlords method. Almost every custom kernel comes prerooted and has build in cwm. Just flashing a custom kernel and you have got superuser access and cwm.
You can try cm10 with your unlocked bootloader. Just flash a compatible kernel and install rom via cwm.

Just to clear something out I tell you my personal story.
I had a live with walkman which I unlocked official. The rooting status in service menu changed from boot loader unlock allowed: yes to boot loader unlocked.
Actually I have got a neo v. I unlocked the boot loader via test point. Guess what happened? Rooting status in service menu still says boot loader unlock allowed: yes.
At the moment I haven't got a stock rom installed so I can't take a screen. I have posted some earlier, I will search for it and post it here again.
I don't know if it is possible to edited a kernels name easily. The screen he provided shows that his current kernel is named night elf.
Stock kernels are named different, I don't remember correct but wasn't it something like performance?
Best way to prove us is to provide a flash tool log cat showing a successfully kernel flash.
Again I ask the op: have you unlocked your phone yourself and which method did you use?
Or have you bought the phone second hand and somebody had unlocked it already?

Droidians,
I've been working 'hard' (for a noob) recently trying to desperately root my Xperia U ST25i. As mentioned in the title, the build is 6.1.1.b.1.54 and is running ICS 4.0.4. The bootloader has also been unlocked, but no matter whether I use the command line Bin4ary restore root or Flashtool in order to root it, it's just failing.
Any advice would be appreciated. Should I downgrade to GB and try from there? If so, where can I find a GB ftf file for my specific model/firmware etc?
AW: Sony Xperia U ICS 6.1.1.b.1.54 Wont Root!
The .54 firmware is not rootable by the root and restore method. You have to flash .10 firmware-kernel to root and then flash .54 firmware-kernel.
Follow the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028139 and dont forget to hit the "thanks-button" for the OP.
Hope it helped

I did that but still din't worked.
BTW
What do you mean root by restore method can you elaborate?
If nothing works
Simply unlock the bootloader and flash pre rooted kernel.

That's what problem is, nothing went wrong no errors its just that after rooting steps it doesn't show SuperUser icon.
I flashed with old firmware 6.1.1.B.1.10 then tried to rooted with Binary's v.29 file and then again flashed firmware with 6.1.1.B.1.54 Still no go.

have you tried rooting your phone using flashtool?
Flashtool > Device name (e.g My Mt27) > Root

I think you just need to persevere. I took me about 4 hours to get my Sony Sola to root with the above instructions, really hard work as the phone is nigh on unusable after flashing with 6.1.1.B.1.10 .
First Time I did it every thing seemed to go fine, I selected the backup on the Sola as promoted by Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry and restarted, then re flashed with 6.1.1.B.1.54 but it wasn't rooted.
I did it all again, but for the next few hours the backup restore would not appear on my phone screen, I would just get a black screen and occasionally i would be able to power off (i say occasionally as after flashing with 10, hardly anything works on the phone, and the touch screen never works), other times i had to use the volume done button and power button to re-start the phone, then would have to get it to start up without booting - just going into the charge screen - so i could eventually power it down to re-flash with 54!
Any way after doing the process over, and over again for about 4 hours, i gave up. Tried again the next morning and it worked first time! I didn't even have to select to restore the back up, or power off on the phone, it all seemed to do it for me!
Just keep trying hopefully you will get there.:good:
1.Try to reflash whole ICS ftf, around 500MB.Means install ICS again,or repair your phone using Sony PC Companion
2.After finish, download these three things http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029756
3.Go to computer/local disk c/flashtool,then drivers,install drivers,choose Xperia P,U,sola drivers and fastboot,flashmode
4.After finished installing drivers reboot your computer
5.After reboot flash .10 firmware using flashtool
6.Root using Bin4ry's method
7.You should see Supersu app in app drawer
7.At last flash .54 firmware
8.Done.
Hope this method help.
