A few days ago I took my Motorola RAZR out of my pocket to see a whole load of cracks across the screen, not the glass, but below it. The screen no longer works but the phone is on etc...
Because its a problem with the screen Motorola say I have no warranty and it will have to be sent off before I get a price.
Just wondering if anybody else has had this happen to their RAZR?

If you see this defects in very low (and black or very black colors) brightness condition its normal in some RAZRR, Motorola says that it doesnt affect the user experience and they dont change your screen.

I find this strange as my XT910 has suffered multiple beatings and falls and nothing has been affected. If you need a new AMOLED/digitizer, it might be worth it to get it online (about $200+) and installing it yourself (many YouTube guides available).

In cases like that Motorola will assume you dropped it and treat it as abuse until such time as it is demonstrated to be otherwise. This has been documented a few times (several of which were on these forums)- it seems to be a consequence of flexing or other structural stress compounded by the fact that the phone's internals are both quite thin and very densely packed.
If your phone doesn't look to have been abused (normal wear and tear only) they will most likely waive any charges. The most you're out of pocket should be $200 or so if they have to charge you to fix it.
If you're familiar with phone repair you may try doing it yourself, but the RAZR uses a ton of glue and can be tricky to get apart. I would at least try sending it in first- if they're asking too much you can always have it sent back unrepaired.

I dont know why it is with these newer model phones, but just from the suggestion posts that came up when i entered the title of this thread, but My LGOT and i guess even the G2 have an issue where dusts starts to build up under the sceen....
Ive only had my phone for a little over 2 weeks, but even after the first couple days, i noticed that there were already a few trickles of dirt right around the middle of my screen.
I guess my main question is, is there anything i can do about this, has anyone had the same troubles, and what can we do to prevent this from happening?
In Thailand this is general problem of LG Optimus One
you should contact LG Customer support
they'll open your phone and blow dust out
if dust cause touchscreen malfunction they'll change new one for you
some people guess that dust already in the phone due to assembly process from factory
some guess maybe dust go through usb port
I have my phone since 2 days and i already have a dust spot in the lower right corner. This is annoying! If this spot is growing i will contact the costumer support.

I am working on dusty area, but no dust under screen. Phone is 1 month old.
Me I have not this problem, but remains me the same issue with the iPhone 2/3 (google iphone dust screen).
I think it's a common problem with capacitive screen, but no "easy" solutions to fix it...
poor construction quality, imho.

this is one of those instances where a really cheap phone shows its faults. the phone is free on contract and little of $200 without. with it being so incredibly cheap, there is going to be something wrong that causes concern.
Im okay with it happening as long as it gets fixed and the problem is acknowledged by both LG and the phone carriers. it seems like many people are having this problem at the moment and T-Mobile is willing to exchange it in store, so good on them for being considerate.
i have the same issue. Don't know how to prevent that

No dust here either. I have a silicon case, I don't think it helps very much.
just disassemble it. There is no warranty seal. You'll find the dust inbetween the lcd screen and the capacitive overlay.

Hi! please tell us how to do it!
I too have this problem Can any one please let us know how to get rid of it.
I have the same problem with my Optimus One, dust is starting to gather on the right bottom corner and it seems to have increased since the first time I saw it. I've thought about buying a can of compressed air and trying to blow it near the edge of the screen but maybe that will just make it spread even further.
I've also thought about unscrewing the screws on the back panel of the phone and clean it but I'm afraid that it will affect the capacitive screen in some way making it less responsive and that after I assemble it back together it'll become even less air tight and thus accumulate even more dust.
Maybe I'll reclaim my warranty but I'll have to un-root my phone and wipe it clean before leaving it at the store and it's going to be a pain in the ass to reinstall everything when it returns.
Will they replace the mobile for this problem?
You can back up everything by titanium backup and copy the titanium backup folder from sd to your pc or pen drive. In your newly replaced phone you can copy back this folder to sd card and after installing titanium backup application you can restore everything.

Wow, DUST really get into the phone and I thought I was the only person experiencing this... actually it's on the "RIGHT BOTTOM PART" as posted S3nd41 and probably half of the users here has this problem....
Hello fellow Atrix users, I had my atrix for approximately 28 days now. Yesterday, I just found out that there are dust particles under the screen. So i called Amazon wireless because i bought from them. They did sending me a replacement phone. However, according to them, after i used the unlock code, i basically void the warranty. Is this true about the warranty? Is this dust behind the screen issue normal?
So... nobody has this problem at all? The dust particles are somewhere in the top left corner. I think the dust got in from the microphone..
Had mine since the pre-launch shipment was first delivered and I don't have the dust problem. As for the warranty, what unlock code are you talking about? If it's a sim subsidy unlock, I don't see that voiding the warranty as carriers give it away if you ask for it with no prior warning.
If Amazon is really going to be picky about that, and your phone is in fact sim unlocked, then you're better off reselling the phone for $700-800 and buying a new one with some extra pocket change left over.
dust under glass
I just noticed this today and am very upset by it. I called att and had to leave a message i am going to demand a replacement. I will update if they do or don't give me a problem.
Just happened to me recently and it's the first time i ever really put it in my pocket upside down. I have huge pieces of dust behind it now and can't get rid of them. I bought the phone refurbished so i'm sure it's not under warranty anymore.
this has always happened with all my handheld electronics. from my old iPhone, iPod, and zune.
it's bound to happen, I think. the screens aren't ever entirely sealed.

Dont have any yet and have had the phone for a few months . I rly hope it dont happen ive prob had 5 phones before i got my atrix and never had this problem. Oh yea and the atrix is the only phone i have kept for any amount of time.
Hey all, I'm a new Droid Razr Maxx owner! I bought it off contract from someone locally and I'm really happy with the phone so far!
With one exception....I noticed a stuck/dead pixel last night off to the right a bit of the center of the screen.
Someone with more knowledge than me can tell me which it is, but it shows up white on dark backgrounds. I think that's a stuck one correct?
Anyhow, I ran one of those stuck pixel apps last night while I was sleeping and it's still there. So I'm afraid I'm SOL right? Would Motorola see this as a reason to replace the screen under warranty? I highly doubt it, but just looking for options.
If I can't do anything about it, I guess I will just have to live with it. But I'm pretty anal about stuff like that haha.
What do you guys think? Thanks!
Is it like this one in my thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552688
If it is, you don't need to worry. There is a bigger chance you will get a phone with another bigger fault if you exchange it. I didn't exchange mine
Also it's not precisly a stuck pixel it has something to do with the gpu because everytime the capative buttons is on aka lighted it's visible.
Mine isn't much like yours. Mine is a stuck white pixel towards the middle of the screen and it stays in that location no matter what.
It's weird because it doesn't show up on a black screen. It shows up on gray and more neutral colors. It's like the size of a pinhole but it's pretty annoying. I'm assuming it's annoying because I know it's there lol.
Unless you're brave enough to replace the screen, I'd try to get it replaced. My old G'Nex had a speaker issue. It slowly started acting up until it bit the bullet. I didn't buy my phone from Verizon and when I went to a store they said they wouldn't help me. I called 611 (from within the store- at this point I was pissed). I explained that I didn't buy my phone from Verizon but it is a manufacturer's defect. They advised me to take it to a store for review, told them I was at one, they finally just agreed to send me a "like new" replacement.
Now, maybe the fact that I've been with them 10 years, never missed a payment, and am currently not under contract had an affect, but I always seem to get much better results when I call in rather than go to a store.
Call them, worse they can say is no.

I got on an online chat with Motorola and they said to send in my phone for evaluation and POSSIBLE repair. I asked if they would even be able to see what I'm seeing and if they would deem a repair for it. She said send it in and they will take care of it.
Color me skeptical. Should I try it?

Get an RMA # and go for it!

If it doesn't do this on a black screen, it's more likely a defect in the glass than a video RAM or OLED defect.
A GPU or video RAM defect would always display the defect, even with black backgrounds, because that pixel would always have one of the high-order bits set.
Try looking at the pixel with a jeweler's magnifying glass, and tilt the screen back and forth while viewing the defect closely. If it's the glass, it will be obvious. If not, you can replace the OLED display, which will be expensive (more so if you have it done).
It could be a grain of sugar stuck to the glass...

My HTC EVO 3D's screen is getting worse and worse seemingly after the last OS update to version 4.1.1 from HTC. I think it's software related because it doesn't happen all the time and turning the screen off for a few seconds makes it go away for a little while and there have been no significant drops of the phone. Factory reset didn't help. The phone is not rooted.
Here's a 15 sec video clip so you can see what I mean:
plus.google.com/u/0/106879723793109771975/posts/jmp9YEuEVoz
(this is my first post so I don't get to embed a link to an outside page)
Those white dots show "touches" that the screen is registering. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? This Rogers phone is over a year old, so Rogers won't replace it and I don't think HTC will now either.
I don't have a screen protector on either.
So, screen protector is not the problem. No huge impacts with the screen too.
Guessing a digitizer issue. I'd take it for repair.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Fully agree, Digi is the issue. Take it to your mobile provider for them to look at it... explain to them about you possibly think its the Digi and they will take it in.
Failing that, HTC direct will beable to help
But how do you got official 4.1.1??
He's mistaken. He meant ICS.
Well, that's funny! The EVO I sent back that I got on launch day, since it was a few months old did that at the bottom. The replacement does that at the top, now I've seen it on the right side. Maybe the replacement that's coming this week will do it on the left!
Yep, sounds like a bad digitizer to me. I replaced one about three months ago, and this one is going out, now. First one I picked up was cheap with "tools" and some adhesive. I just ordered another from Amazon, that's supposedly from HTC, for a little more $$$. I guess I'll see how that one goes. Usually can find them for less than 20, and combos (digitizer and LCD) for about 60.
There are threads that detail how to replace them, and videos on you tube. Not hard, if I can do it, just take your time and follow the instructions.

So this has been somewhat bothering me since pretty much day one and I have told myself it's not a big deal just me being "nit picky" but I just have to mention and ask...
My DNA is "creaky" on the front glass I clean my display endlessly and it makes a creaky (for lack of a better description or recording of the actual sound..) sound.. I also notice that when I put it down there is a noise from the camera area.. (maybe auto focus lens..)
but my main concern is the creaky sound on the front and when i grip the phone on the sides...
Does anyone else notice this?

If your phone is less than 14 days old, you may easily get it replaced at Verizon store.
I had this issue, and got a new replacement without any hassle.
You just got a phone like that. Either get it replaced or get used to it. Sorry...
I wouldn't be happy either. Doubt Verizon will swap it for that. I'd try to tell them it gets hot or doesn't hold the charge or something. They swapped my husband's Rezound cause it was hot and dying in a matter of hour when plugged in and used as GPS in the car. Tell them you have a problem like that.

Mine creaked bottom right, replaced it and its better though I can briefly recreate the noise if the battery flap isn't seated properly.

Same here.
Mine is solid as a rock.
This set is "the nuts"! (poker term).
Except for the fact that you can't even look at it without somehow touching the rocker volume and changing the setting.
I don't want a case on it so I just remember to handle it without actually touching it.
Or get Volume Locker app.
With case off, no creaks on mine. Then again, the instant I pulled it out of the box, I babied it in a screen protector and ballistic sg case. My Nexus 7 though, creaks like no other.
Sometimes phones can begin to show creaking after having a case on it that was too small for it. Have you recently had problems removing a case?
I have two DNA's and had to replace one due to this creaking sound. Verizon did not think it was a problem, but exchanged it anyway after I insisted the sound was bothering me.
