No sim error - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im sure this is probaly a well known problem.
Sometimes my phone reads that there is no sim card in and i hsve to restrt the phone to get it back.
Is there a fix for this? Tried a new sim card and read that a new phone wouldnt necessarily help (plus im rooted so warrenty is void)
Just before my Phone turns off my signal reappears but obviously its i can't cancel the restart at tht point so surely there is something thst can be done to fix it?

anyone?

New sim card first.

Already tried that

Your Galaxy S III could be locked to a network that your SIM card is not.

new sim tried then backup data and factory reset .

If you know all the SIM cards you've tried actually do work (i.e. you tried the SIM cards in other phones, and they work), and none of them work in the I9100, then the SIM card reader in the I9100 has gone bad. Did you install or flash something before it stopped working?
If you can't get it working, and it's only 2 months old, then you should still have a valid warranty. In this case, if you've flashed any non-stock firmwares or ROMs, then flash back to stock, remove all traces of root if you rooted it, and send it in for warranty.
Clean ur pins inside the phone where normally should ur sim..

No sim - insert sim card, help, any solutions

So i got my phone working (due to a helpful xda member)
flashed new firmware, but now i am getting NO SIM (even tried restoring old nandroid, and installing new rom, both same problem)
the thing is, it could be
EFS (didnt back it up, god dammit, never backed it up on s2) though IMEI is the same as phone *#06#
the micro sim slot (maybe i damaged it trying to get my old cut sim out of it before it stuffed up) 'is it easily damaged? could it be fixed?'
and nobody i know has a micro sim i could use to see if its my sim or damaged slot, or even software related
samsung, why you have to use MICRO SIM,
any solutions?
or should i just flash back to stock, and send it in for repair?
- i tried flashing a new modem via cwm (didnt work)
- factory reset (didnt work)
- phone company confirmed the sim is active (so its not the sim)
sorry for the recent questions, i never had any problems ever with my s2
You say IMEI is the same as the original .
Sim is activated but does it work in another phone ??? that is needed to rule out faulty sim card .
Does another sim work in the slot that is needed to rule out sim holder fault .

[Q] No sim error Spontaneously

i9300 bought from newegg.com in october of 2012
Running 4.1.2 and then rooted
I have never flashed a mod on this phone
Intro: Was using the phone and reading articles. Pressed the home key to switch between windows but the screen froze. I depressed the power button until the phone rebooted again. Phone has rebooted but now a No SIM insert SIM card message is now visible.
I have tried:
restarting the phone: No sim message still appears
removing the sim card and reinserting sim card: no Sim message still appears
Placing a thin piece of paper between sim card holder and sim (in case metal surfaces were not touching properly) : no sim message still appear
replacing sim card with another sim card from a family member's phone : no sim message still appears.
My other options are formating the phone?
Sending phone in for repairs?
any other suggestions?
Please help i take really good care of my phone. First time anything like this has happened.
I have looked at other posts but they all have some customized mod or have remedied their situation with a procedure that did not work for me.
Backup data then factory reset.
jje
Update:
Factory reset phone via volume up+home+power key. Then selected factory reset
Phone reset but still "no sim insert sim card" error persists.
Update on sim being used:
Sim used on my phone is detected and usable on another family member's phone
Family member's sim will not work on my phone: "no sim insert sim card" error persists.
Anymore suggestions?
note:i'm leaving the country april 1st. Does anyone have idea on the time lapse of sending a phone in for repairs?
Check imei to see if it is corrupted
update:
dialed *#06#
successfully retrieved
IMEI
(15 digit number) / 01
Check with the box or phone sticker to make sure it hasn't corrupted to generic imei
IMEI identified on phone and IMEI retrieved from dialing *#06# are identical
Choice is to wipe phone and install stock rom or take to a service centre .
Possible hardware fault on the sim reader .

Might be worth getting a new SIM card

I've inserted current sim card into a family member's phone. Sim card is detected and functional.
I've replaced current sim card with a family member's sim card. "no sim insert sim card" message persists
Can we rule out software problem now?

Please confirm:
I have factory reset phone. What are you referring to by wipe?
After i successfully wipe phone
I will then proceed to reset binary
then re-install stock rom
I would do a backup then flash stock Rom again with Odin
Thanks to both of you for your concern and help
UPDATE
I am so embarassed
One thing you could do is see if any of the SIM slot pins are bent, you will need a needle/torch/magnifying glass, saw someone with similar issue recently that found his was caused by slightly bent pins, so worth a check
Embarassed
if i knew how to properly install the sim card on these new phones I wouldn't have a problem. Apparently Galaxy s3 has a locking mechanism that is confirmed from a clicking sound heard when the sim card is installed correctly. DOH!!

Unusual sim card not detected

I have an internacional s3 (gt i9300) and sudently it stopped detecting the sim csrd , sn and imei are normal ajd stock firmware is installed. If there is no card the signal bars appear, if there is a card a blocked símbol appears. Before installing stock it had no imei with the sim card on. Rebooting fixes the issue but only for a few seconds, after that its no network again. The card works on other phones normaly and i have no more sim card to try on this phone. Any ideas?

Hard to understand what you're trying to say but if you are on stock with imei & serial number correct then it sounds like a simcard reader fault.
I dont have a computer here and installing the stock firmware deleted my keyboard... its weird because the card works and makes calls right after reboot, if it was a card slot problem it should not work at all..

Probable connection/ component damage sim reader to mobo .
Whatever if you have wiped and flashed stock firmware then only a service repair left .
Is it possible to he a damaged antenna?
The phone has a broken screen, its beej this way for a few months. Does that void the warrenty?

I tried a different SIM card on the phone, and now it says it imei unknown and baseband unknown again. Does this change anything?
cp also says unknown. AP and CSC are correct. decive status is normal, bluethooth is unavailable, signal power, zero. this makes me think its the phone antenna that is broken

[Q] Apparent SIM Card Error

Hi, first and foremost let me say I don't own the phone and I'm asking the question for a friend.
Their Galaxy S3 i9300 keeps giving them an error saying "Restart device - The mobile network will be unavailable until you restart with a valid SIM card inserted.", however they have got a SIM card in the phone and it appears when they are using it. Is this some sort of firmware error or is it a hardware error and can it be fixed at all?
Could be either, factory reset and flash latest stock firmware then test with another sim. If still the same then sim reader is most likely failure.

Thank you for your reply, I will let them know when I next see them. And your quote is true, when I put in the tread title XDA suggested threads what weren't even this device. Plus I was at college, my battery on my laptop was nearly dead and I had no access to a plug socket to charge it . I would have searched more if I did.
