Should I install the new update (ruu)? - HTC Rezound

Hey guys I'm just curious I'm on viperRez Rom and before I was I did the last ruu and I heard the ota came out today. Should I upgrade my firmware or will it give me issues.? Will I have to relock boot loader? Will I lose root?

You'll have to lock your bootloader to update, and you'll lose root, but you just have to re-root in Amon Ra, no biggie, but if your current firmware is fine, I don't see any point upgrading, because they're pretty much the same

Thanks for all your help bud.. I'm really getting into this rooting and roming thing.. I think I'm just gonna sit at my current firmware, I have great signal great 4g I'm really just interested in good battery life.. if you have any Rom suggestions or anything please feel free to pm me thanks again.

BTW...if the RUU you referred to earlier was the .10 one, then your current firmware is up to date.

The amon ra root method no longer works with ICS. I'm actually trying to get my root back as of now and still no luck with many methods.

http://download.chainfire.eu/204/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip
I downloaded the zip file and installed using Ramon ra recovery

I guess I'm not understanding the problems people are having. If you have AmonRa installed, why couldn't you just install a rooted rom?

I used SuperSu and it worked fine, I rooted on .10 ICS leak with Hassoon (prob misspelled it sry) AIO toolkit just hit Root button once you have Amon installed which it can do as well two buttons and you should have root, superRS will flash in recovery its already preinstalled in toolkit.

I'm not getting it either. Seems like people are going to an awful lot of trouble to go from pretty decent ICS ROMs back to basically the same thing - os version, kernel, firmware, radios. What's so great about the official release compared to the latest leaks?

if you are experiencing root issues download chainsdd's flashable zip and flash in recovery and that should fix any binary issues which i believed was an issue with these ics roms, but i made sure to put the current stuff on it.
I just bought a used rezound and it is currently running cleanrom 3.7 which is the 3.11.605.1 build. Can I just flash this over top after wiping everything? I'm a newb to the rezound but not to rooting so please excuse me if this seems like a common sense question. Thanks.

Another 1/2Noob wants Rom'N help

I am only 1/2 a noob cause I did this back in June - I rooted & installed CleanRom. I am 98% sure I did not go S-off, I am not sure what firmware I am on - Screenshot attached - hope it is helpful. The recovery software I have RA Revamped Build: RA-Vigor-v3.15, I thought I started with clockwork mod, not sure where this came from.
I would now like to try NILS Sense-less NeoMAX 2.0 [ICS De-Sensed 3.14.605.12]

Actually, from your baseband version, you're on gingerbread firmware.
So you can either flash NeoMax with an old firmware patch, or update to ics with a RUU.
I recommend updating to ics firmware.

Yes update to the latest ruu first. It will make things so much easier. Be aware that you need to get everything off you phone before you start the process, it will erase everything except for what is on the external sd card.
And yes this qualifies you as a full blown n00b. Sorry.

yep, as stated by other memebers you are runing GB with ICS firmware patch. which is fine but your radios are out dated.
you have 2 options at this point.
option 1 is to update to the .12 ruu, the one before the global release. this will give you the ability to flash newer roms that are not built off the global release, which there are more options to flash. this method will keep you s-on and still enjoy all the wonderful roms out there.
option 2 is to update to the global ruu. this will give you the most up to date rom s, but the downside is if you want to go back to an earlier build of ICS like neo's non global rom you will need to s-off the device.
let me know what option you want and i can help you with a mini guide on updating.

I think 3.14 based roms still work on global firmware as long as you use the right kernel.
But nonetheless, it's always best to be on a rom matching your firmware.

Man you guys rock!
What reason is there to stay s-on other than it is a bit trick to achieve s-off? I think everything becomes easier once I am s-off? So maybe I should just but the bullet (or the paperclip so to speak) and do it.
ASOP looks so interesting - when that is out and stable I most likely will want to try it - does that change what I should do in any way?

This will not work if you used the HTC Bootloader unlock tool. Your device must be fully stock with a locked bootloader or you must have S-Off

If you are unrooted and s-on right now, you may never be able to root.
Someone will have to spend time finding an exploit. How many devs are working on the TB now?
But if you have S-off still, then you could possibly install an alternate recovery, like clockwork, then install su from inside cwm and obtain root that way.

Thanks. For some reason when I typed that I was thinking all the S-OFF boot loaders out there were all "unlocked" which is why I didn't call that out, that is not the case is it?
I had applied the unlocked, s-off, "permanent" hboot back before revolutionary, so my memory is fuzzy on this stuff.
You can root, but you cannot S-OFF.

I would like to know the answer to this too. I want to try to root stock ICS OTA, but I can't find a definitive solution.

Since the bootloader is locked it isn't possible. We don't have an exploit for it and the htc dev method doesn't work either. Until an exploit is found any new bolt owners are sol. It is unlikely an exploit will be found since there aren't any devs interested in finding an exploit.

Definitely avoid doing this. You will brick your phone.
There are a number of people exploring options at this point. If one of them is successful, a guide will be posted soon after.

Don't do this method people. I can confirm that we have a method to unlock root and s off stock ics. It isn't easy to do but it works and requires downgrading using an ruu.

It's not something that should really be pasted willy nilly across the web.
There are people there to help if you get stuck.
Translating back and forth from there to here isn't really any easier then you signing up.
If you wanna just wait, it will be incorporated into the All In One Tool fairly soon.
thanks im 90% done. Seems to work so far no issues yet. currently downgrading

[Q] Downgrade from 3.16?

I am not liking any ROMs I am having to flash with the 3.16 base.
How can I go about going back so I can use my old faithful ROMs?

Just flash the rom that you like, after doing full wipe of course.

Can I go backwards on firmware updates?

I am not able to flash any rom.
I am having errors when flashing and I have never sseen them before. I assumed it was from the new firmware I have flashed.
I flashed the 3.16.651.3 JellyBean OTA - LATEST found at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...dio-Collection&p=220556&viewfull=1#post220556
I am really frustrated and hate my phone right now because I can't flash the rom I want.
Did you flash the touch panel too, or just the firmware without touch? AFAIK, the tp doesn't work for non 3.16, and will cause issues. When you say you are getting errors, what are the errors?
We can't see the phone and what it's doing from here, need info.

or
SymLinks failed

I flashed the full firmware, which apparently has the tp in it.
So that is the problem?
Can I flash 3.15 and be good to go?
Are you s-off? If so you can downgrade the TP only. The zip for that is in the firmware thread.
Downgrading firmware will result in a brick I believe. If you are s- on then either stay with 3.16 ROMs or s- off your phone.

I am not sure really what to do at this point to go back to a base 2.13 ROM.
It will not flash whatsoever after updating to 3.16

If you flashed full firmware, it means that you s-off, what recovery do you use? Downgrade tp first, then you can downgrade recovery if you want, from here. http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98 Scroll all the way down to bootloader flashable 2.3.1.0

If you didn't install the standalone touch panel update, you don't need to downgrade your touchpanel. The 3.16 full firmware file in the thread you listed does NOT include the updated touchpanel.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

So the reason it won't flash is because I'm using TWRP 2.4.4?
I will downgrade recovery and see what happens.

Thank you. Downgrading recovery some how made my EVO happy and it flashed the ROM I have been missing. Thank you!
And FinZ28, I don't appreciate your comment about bandwidth not being free- to imply that my question is a waste of bandwidth. This is a community to help people and to learn.

Relax man, it's part of my sig. Sorry if you thought it was directed at you-it's not
Ummm......as far as downgrading, one of the root methods had you downgrade your phone. Can't recall which one, can't really be bothered to look it up, but that's how a lot of people got s-off. Technically, you temp-brick your phone, but I mean...it takes all of half an hour, if that.
EDIT: ....well, hell. Not that it matters now. *LOL* Glad it was resolved -- didn't see the other posts when I made mine.
