Your asking how we purposefully make a Motorola phone defective.. To hide the fact from Verizon you tried to mod your phone and bricked it. All to satisfy a frauded warranty claim.
If anyone were to try and give you advice it would jeopardize this sites integrity.

it is really really really really really really really hard to completely brick a phone. Your old phone is probably salvageable if you could tell us what you screwed up

Funny guys.. lol i was loading a ics rom and didnt wipe cache. Forgot. It wont charge or anything. Im sure i can fix it wit a data cable but didnt wanna pay $25 so just ordered a new one
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

I did the same thing; at first i tried building my own cable but the connections kept breaking loose because of my poor soldering skills. Finally i just cut the end off of the micro USB charger ( the opposite end plugged into the AC outlet) it might matter if you use the computer USB as a source. I stripped the wires and connected them directly to the Razr battery. The rest is history.

I just got it as well about 30 minutes ago. First time that I have received it.
I just got this and I've been running .211 since it was leaked.

It's weird...I've had it installed from an OTA since last Saturday I think it was (I didn't register for any soak, but I got it anyway) and after leaving my desk for about an hour today I got back to 2 notifications for upgrade availability. It said "2 New System Updates Available", or something along those lines. I hit more information but then closed it. It hasn't come back since. Using the System Update functionality said I'm up to date, so oh well!
ICS OTA Notification
Did people get this notification after installing the update or some even before the update?

Read the message. It is not announcing an additional release.
It is inviting you to the Motorola site to read up on all the ICS goodness.
Just so you will know what has been changed for ICS.
Nothing more.

Just minor things that bother me enough to want GB back. 3g 4g toggle...battery life is much worse....signal stregnth of wifi...ok not minor stuff.

My wife and I both got this today. We are running the 211 OTA (sideloaded, we were rooted). Southern California if that matters...
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
I got the update through the soak test. My phone never froze before the. 211 update. My phone is now officially unstable. Kinda sucks, actually. About to do a factory reset and see if that helps. A few apps always force close like One Click Clear. 4 G signal for me is worse. Plus ICS uses a lot more data, if and when my apps that use data work. Flip board is another app that freezes a lot. Have cleared data. Uninstalled and reinstalled apps. All have not helped.

yeah the 3G/4G toggle sucks but its an easy enough work around with LTE OnOff, I'm still going thru it but battery life doesn't seam horribly bad not more then 5-10% less of what it was before the update (have you rebooted since finishing the whole update process, sometimes that helps).
Things I've noticed about the OTA, atleast for me anyway:
1: bluetooth now connects everytime (so far) sometimes on GB it wouldn't
2: better reception, I can talk on my phone in places I couldn't before.
3: I have a smart action set to shutoff Data when screen is off and it reconnects to 3G (no 4G here yet) much quicker and much more reliably now.
Over all I'm very happy with ICS.
ICS WiFi strength
Has anyone on ICS noticed an increase in signal strenth when wifi is turned on? My XT910 (still waiting for ICS) has poor wifi strength. My iPhone can see more networks when outside.:cyclops:
I got exact the same message couple of hours ago. My phone is rooted and I sideloaded the OTA.

How do I put my S3 to sleep? (Hitman style)

Hi, if I wanted to kill my mobile by shorting it out how should I proceed?
I was thinking in the terms of cutting the cord of a 5/12v charger and connecting it directly to the pins under the battery. As I understand the battery gives 3.7v and if I where to connect the 12/5v charger directly to the right pins on the phone I guess it will be fried. Is that correct and to witch of the 4 pins should I connect the cord?
AK 47 should be sufficient

I am writing a book called "Hitman 47 - cellular killer" I need to do some backgroundchecks regarding the different ways he would use to kill a phone using stealth so that everyone would be convinced that the phone had died of natural causes.
I am still waiting for any comments of what would happend if I connect a 12v line directly to the phones battery connector.

I wonder if it will ship with Gingerbread...
I'm done with LG, I know AT&T probably has more to do with the update not coming out, but I gave them a chance and that's it for me. I will give my son this phone and take his upgrade and follow this forum to flash a little here and there for him. This is utter nonsense not to even have a stock 4.1.2 yet. And yet they keep rolling out devices. Total BS!! and before anyone says we do have 4.1.2 , I Know, but the premise of this rant is that devs could make better and more stable builds off of a stock release. Rant off.
Agreed. This phone is getting treated like garbage for no reason. At this rate, people on contract will have jellybean on this phone for maybe just a year, that's if we ever get an official release (not including snowjb, which I'm using now). I've never liked at&t.

As much as I want to try the nexus 4 ROMs, I'm not convinced the conversion is safe for the phone in the long run. There's nothing wrong with this phone as it is, but at&t has a track record of sweeping good phones under the rug.

We shouldn't HAVE to..... That's the issue
While I'm not for or against it since I feel what people do with their phones is their business, I do feel like we shouldn't have to turn our phone into another phone in order to make the best of it. We bought the OG because we wanted an OG (at least most of us).
I feel like the N4 conversion is more of a bandaid that's just covering the real issue.
Basically, step up your game LG/AT&T/whoever the hell else is responsible for us being on old software with a brand new phone

The only thing is GPS. You can flash a nexus modem but you will at some point lose connection and can't get data or phonecalls and it eventually will reconnect. Or you can keep your optimus g modem but you won't have satellite GPS lock.

In that case I've yet to hit the "some point." However, I've been running the CM10.1 rom for the conversion with the custom faux kernel in an entirely LTE area, and have gone without a single dropped call, random reboot, lost gps, or anything for multiple weeks now (2 or 3 I think?). I'm normally a flashaholic, but this is more of a daily driver for me than snowjb was (with the random reboots).
I think T mobile are doing what they did with the G2X. The g2X is the cousin of the Optimus 2X. Only different was the partition layout. It seems on this one they are doing a complete overhaul, with the LGOG.

I remember you from the gnex threads and imo, it's only a matter of time before you root it... ...you might have to let go of the aosp idea for a rom on this phone for right now tho. I really don't see too much out there right now. Plus I'm really liking the tw! It's a nice change from aosp. It's not as bad as I remember on this phone, especially with some of the cool roms that are out for it...
check out beans rom if you wanna go that route. very fast and responsive. his stuff is always great.

You're right. I'm sure I will root pretty soon. I was an addict on the gnex so it really is just a matter of time.
I do like TW, it's just the color scheme that turns me off.

Thanks for the recommendation. I keep hearing good things about that rom. I just need to get back from vacation so I can use a windows computer.
Unless there is a way to do it on a mac.

Yes flashing a aosp rom will loose the tw gestures. So flash a tw rom and u will be fine.

I want the gestures gone and all other IMO bloat. As long as I get S3 stock like function, I will be happy. Now I just need Verizon to release a 32 model.
I'm loving the phone besides a hint of lag, especially when typing (either SwiftKey or Google Keyboard) - lag I didn't have on my DNA. I am on the fence of rooting, as I've never done it, even though this is like my 10th Android device.

Screen of death...

OK so this problem started out small a few days ago until now when my screen went down for 30 minutes..
It's weird it just shows a fuzzy screen like a old school TV did that had no reception. This has now occurred on two different ROMs so I know it is not related in that way...
I'm thinking its a hardware or software problem with my screen. Has anybody else experienced this or should I take it into sprint... I have tried taking a screen shot of it but when I do, it actually takes a pic of whatever screen my phone is on eg: home screen, Facebook, XDA etc.... But still has the fuzzy screen....
Any help would be gratefully... Thanks

That definitely sounds like a hardware problem. It shouldn't be consistent with more than one rom. Furthermore, you are the only case where I have heard this (I saw your post with the first occurrence on the Sense 5/ 4.1 port).
Flash VipeRUU if you are S-Off, and run along to Sprint. If you aren't, flash the latest stock rom, and remove SU permissions from within the app itself. They *might* not notice (they didn't for me).

The phone just freezes up when I'm doing something and I press the power button to turn off the screen. And when I press it again to unlock the phone it has that screen...

man that is freaky... it happened to me too but only once. I also have backlight issues on my evo lte. It'll start flickering and the backlight will just die. The phone will still work but the screen wont. Does that ever happen to you?

Not yet just the 80's scrambled porn screen.. I just got this phone a couple weeks ago.
So far since I did the ruu it hasn't happened again. It happened to me this morning twice, the first time it came back after 3-4 hard reboots. The second time it was like that the whole time I slept, and of course right before I did the ruu it came back on LOL..
I am going to give this another night at work if it doesn't do it again I'm thinking it is a glitch in the rooting of the phone if it does then I will take it to sprint tomorrow..

Even I had the same problem - the Sprint store near me replaced the phone (so lost most of my data & s-off phone) but there were others who said they were able to get the Sprint store to replace the screen.. YMMV
All the best!
Thanks for that link.. I think I might just leave early for work tonight and stop by sprint..
Edit nevermind on going to sprint since there hours are 9:30am-7pm and my work is 10:45pm-6:45am. I'm not going to sit around and wait..
