Warrany on SGS2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I sent away a Galaxy S2 on warranty but then realised that I had rooted it once Meaning the flash counter was at 1... I have heard that Samsung check this and the warranty on software is void if it isn't at 0... I have sent my phone away but it is Vodafone AU that repairs it, Do you think they will check it? (The reason it was sent was software related) Thanks

as long as ur phone wont boot, the dwnld mode is not accessable by any means and they have to change the motherboard, the rooting cannot be detected for sure

Reading your other thread and this one, i don't think you listened to anyone to try and fix your phone. Anyway by the sounds of things you can still boot into download mode so yes Samsung may check that and make you pay. Its a 50 - 50 chance.

Yep. Matty is spot on. It's a dice roll. There's an even chance they'll charge you for it, and you've got no comeback whatsoever given rooting/flashing non-stock firmware voids the warranty.

It was an open box SGS2 that Vodafone had when I got it, I will just play dumb and not know what root is and so on XD

[Q] How to return Vibrant with warranty?

I have ATT and not T-mobile I want to get the same phone
i have warranty
can i call them and tell them it bricked or do i have to be a customer?
I did this with my G1 but i had tmobile at the time
You have to be a tmobile customer, because they ask you for your account details while doing the phone call
I know my Dad opened an account for my uncle
could i call them and say that my uncle had the phone and give them the account details?
Call Samsung instead as they do not require a t-mobile account. You have a year warranty with Samsung.
I already did
they just fix the problem not replace the phone

You have to be a customer. When you call they have to verify its under warranty, troubleshoot then if necessary replace if warranted. And all that cant be done without the phone being used on an active line. I know this for a fact because i work as csr for t-mobile

It will work, but only if the warranty check on the imei comes back as still under warranty. But if your uncle has php on his line, then it will work.

Technically you are right. But since OP is not a T-mo customer it absolutely wont work. Let's say if someone who is a customer of t-mo bought the phone and then sold it to someone else. If the phone was still under warranty the new owner could use the warranty if the original owner was willing to talk to customer care for him so the customer rep could go into the account to verify the phone is still under warranty. I've done that for a few customers. Its kind of a ***** of a process though. Since the OP's uncle isn't the original owner and OP isn't a t-mobile customer it wont work. Sorry dude!!

My uncle lives far away
Can I just call them give them the information and tada
Or does it have to be saying it was used on a tmobile sim
Oh and if my uncle has insurance on his phone will this interfere with his phone's insurance

True, but if the uncles line has the extended warranty, and is using the vibrant at the time he calls in, then technically he can get an exchange if troubleshoot calls for it

Insurance is another thing, its the extended warranty that matters. But he has to be using the vibrant prior to calling in for an exchange.

You would need to unbrick the phone. Have your uncle use it for a few days. Then you would need your uncle to all customer care (because he is the main account holder) and say he is having issues. Like phone randomly shuts off. doesn't really matter. Then you should be able to get a replacement pending he has lifetime warranty.

I think my ATT Note is fried from trying to make it work with t mobil

Pro's please help!
Well, really do not know what to do now.
I started off by unlocking phone, then I installing CWM with Odin, I then installed saurom v7 and then Modem t989, Did everything the instructions said about wiping data before installs. Now phone just freezes after booting up. changes pages, but real real slow and keeps restarting. I then tried installing ICS, the phone works much faster and does not freeze, but now it does not find the t mobil sim card.
So, I tried to restore phone using Odin with a att restore file I downloaded at: http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...brick-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-android-2-3-6/
Phone is real slow and keeps locking up, nothing works.
So what do I do now. Phone was brand new in the box as of this morning.
Please help, real frustrated.
Swap it out or call warranty
Install CWM and then factory reset. Wipe data 2 times. Clear cache 2 times. Clear dalvik cache.
Install the stock att tar file from this address with Odin:
http://m-s-j.net/dagnarf/pda-odin-att-stock-kernel.tar
Make sure the only thing checked is auto reboot. And make sure you're using PDA.

Well call warranty and tell them its not functioning properly. Tell them you've had it over 30 days and they'll send a replacement.
The phone worked perfect out of the box in the morning. I tried the fix of using Odin to put on the ATT kernal, but the phone never started after 10 minuts.
Is there a fix to get ICS to read the sim card?
Right now it says no card is loaded.

He got the phone fron ePray, and he's with TMobile. AT&T wont even touch that claim. His only viable option is through Samsung. Even still, why would you encourage him to commit fraud? And people complain because carriers are charging a restocking fee, and wonder why.

Lmao, I didn't suggest he commit fraud and please don't tell me about these blood sucking cellphone companies. They charge you $35 to put a phone back in the stockroom even if its defective. I returned my original Note and got charged $35 even though the phone was clearly defective. I didn't sweat it because I just called at&t and they refunded the fee.
Or purchase from Best Buy since there is no restock fee.

+1 because the guy is doing all these risky things to the phone, and doesn't even know how to factory reset. Do yourself a favor homesite and just learn how to swim before just jumping into the deep end buddy.
Go back to stock by flashing with Odin like the above post mentions and start over and take baby steps. Maybe root and flash the modem just to get it working on your carrier...

International version, root, warranty

Hi guys,
I am about to buy the S III international/European version. I would like to use it with a sim card I already have from a different carrier, and thus I will need to unlock it. The research I did though tells me that I need to first root it which is not reversible and I will void my warranty because of the counter cannot be reset.
I am not interested to put any roms or anything, I just want to use it with a different carrier from my country. So can someone confirm that rooting it will void my warranty or that has been overcome already. If not, will it be possible in the future, say in the next month or so?
You can root it and you can use voodoo sim unlock from the play store and that will unlock your phone.
Afterwards if you need to you can use triangle away which will reset the counter to zero and Samsung will be none the wiser if you have to send it back for warranty.

Unlock Galaxy S3

Hi, i have a SGS3 and the carrier have locked the phone thou i bought it in second hand. With receipt and it was brand new in unopened box. Worked fine untill couple of days ago when it got locked.
So i'm not able to use the phone cause i cant get no network.
I rooted my phone and deleted the "efs" files so the imei changed but it didnt help my, still no network signal. Cannot connect.
Is there any way to unlock my phone? Please help me get my phone working. Payed about 450 euros for it.
Sorry if i put this thread in a wrong section. Newbie here..
Appreciate the help!
Take it to any phone unlocking shop or kiosk and should cost around £20. Im not sure the currencies exchange rate.
It may also be cheaper where you are from

Why the hell have you deleted the efs folder?. In the efs folder your imei is in.
Restore your phone if you got a backup of the efs folder. Otherwise use the search function in this forum. Because more people has done the same thing you've done
Are you sure its not been blacklisted maybe by accident... amd congrats on deleting efs folder big mistake
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I saved the efs files so it's okay. I have restored them.
I deleted the files in the efs folder to get new imei number so i can pass by the lock on my phone, but it didnt help me.
It's maybe imei locked, dont know exactly what it's called.
Does anybody have any idea what to do to unlock the phone?
Thanks
Yes as my previous comment stated, go to a phone unlocking shop/kiosk and get them to unlock it. Really cheap and much safer than messing with it your self.

I think you have missunderstod me.. the phone is not locked to a specifik carrier. Thats not the issue. My phone have been blocked/blacklisted or whatever you call it in english.
Blacklisting usually means stolen goods. That's why you should never buy such expensive stuff (if "unopened" or not) from unreliable third parties.
You can't change the IMEI. Deleting the IMEI will give you the default IMEI which no carrier accepts anyway.
Think you've been conned mate. Try and get your money back is all I can advise.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes i have been conned.
There must be any way to fix it, like change the imei?
Oh i understand you now. All i can advice is maybe still taking it to a phone repair shop and seeing if there is anything they can do.
They is no garantee to fix any problems but i dont think it will cost you anything for them to have a look at it for you.

Dont think phone repair shop can do anything. Think the solution is here in XDA.
Heard that i can go to a local electronic shop and "take" the imei nr from the demo phone (by sdcard or blutooth maybe) in the shop somehow and use that imei on my own phone?
Or flash/rom root or whatever.. just want my phone to work
As I understand it, the emei number is hardwired into the phone , here in UK, it what the carriers use to block stolen/lost phones. I think it illegal to unblock. It also illegal to have the equipment to do this. The only way round I have heard of is a new mother board.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Does it ask you for a Network locked pin or what comes up when you start your phone? , maybe you can use Voodoo to unlock it
asking about changing the imei is a banned topic on xda it's like warez it is fraudulent and discussion of it is banned
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It is definitely VERY illegal to change the IMEI in the UK.
A IMEI block would indicate the phone has been reported stolen/lost. Think u been conned. Try n get your money back.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes i have been conned, and no i cannot get my money back because i bought it in second hand, but brand new with the recipt.
The phone doesnt ask any pin or anything like that. I have signal bars but i cant connect to any network.
Whats voodoo?
Maybe it's illegal but it's also illegal to con someone but it happend. What should i do now? Sit with a 500 euros worth phone with no usage? F*ck that!
What country u from? Where did u purchase the phone?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Sure i'm locked?

I got a replacement s4 when i broke my old , unlocked one. New one said me7 so i put safestrap on and loaded hyperdrive. Runs fine.
Just noticed that on boot though that i get the google title and the unlocked padlock screen on boot. Does that mean anything? Like maybr it was unlocked as mdk before upgraded and refurbished? Doubt I'd be that lucky, but any way to test w/o risking the phone?
Thanks
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The padlock just shows that you have a custom firmware on the phone. It doesn't mean you're unlocked. It's so Samsung knows if you've been messing with to he phone and your warranty is void. You can fix it with an app called Triangle Away.
