[Request] CWM Backup of ROMs - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I was just going through Xperia Ray's development sub-forum when I found JJ's Hybrid ROM for Locked Bootloaders
This is actually just a CWM Backup of JJ's Hybrid ROM for Unlocked Bootloaders being restored in a bootloader locked phone
Could this method also work with our phones?
I would like to test this method on my XMP. I would be really grateful if someone uploads and provides me a link to CWM Backups of the following ROMs
1st I'l try with stock based ROM Real ICS r5.1
2) PARANOIDANDROID-ICXtrim
3) [DEV][AOSP][WIP]JellyBean 4.1.1
Please zip and upload CWM backups of the above mentioned ROMs. I would be very grateful

Anyone

All stock-based roms should work on stock kernel. Any backup method won't let you to run any JB rom, as it need modified ramdisk. I don't know why JJ's roms are working on stock kernel only after backup restore, seems strange.

Paranoid port need to have other kernel, because it's CM9 based.

Is JJ's ROM based on stock? And according to u Real ICS r5.1 should be working with stock kernel as it is based on stock ROM

I don't know about JJ's but RealICS is stock based. And it should work with stock ics kernel.

First, why do you want to restore from a backup? Especially with stock based roms? Yes Real ICS works on stock kernel, but why do you want to keep stock kernel? Can you not unlock your bootloader? Even stock extended kernel is better because it give autoroot and cwm in kernel and also int.d support.
Just as was said before, Jellybean wont work because it uses a modified ramdisk, and stock kernel will not run it. You will just get bootloop. I would assume its the same for Paranoid because its based on CM9 and that also uses modified ramdisk, but different again from Jellybean.
The reason JJ's works on an unlocked bootloader is because it is based on stock, meaning the ramdisk is stock. But the original install is just for unlocked bootloaders for whatever reason.
Hope that cleared it up,
Cheers,
Evil.

Wow, that is crap, im so sorry . In that case your better off sticking with a stock based rom and using stock kernel. Just to let you know, don't flash too much because that can create more bad block on nand. If you phone is under warranty, flash back to stock everything using SUS (make sure your bootloader is locked) then take it to sony repair center. Tell them you have bad blocks on nand and that they should not be there coz phone is only x months old. They should fix it under warranty.

I'm already back on stock. It's been a long time since I relocked my bootloader, I had unlocked using test point method. But I can't go to Sony repair centre, because as far as I know once we unlock the bootloader our warranty is void and even if they don't figure that out, what if they ask how I know about bad blocks in NAND flash?

Try this you dont need to have unlocked bootloader just root which doesnt void warranty, well i dont think so haha but just dont mention it and if they ask, just say you were having problems and someone told you to check for bad blocks and the only way to do that was to root to dmesg and then you unrooted again haha

[Q] From GB to ICS - Do I need updating Bootloader?

Hi guys
I've just downloaded stock LP4 rom but it's only 1 file.
I9100XWLP4_I9100OPSLP4_I9100XXLPS_HOME.tar.md5
Changing from GB to ICS, I need to update bootloader, so in Odin, do I need to check update bootloader when I have only the above file or do I need another file for bootloader... OR this only 1 file will do the job and I don't have to check update bootloader?
Thanks
It would most likely update bootloader automatically. If you don't want to update the bootloader, download one of Wanam's odexed or deodexed stock roms. You can just flash it in CWM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Agree with Elisha - you don't have to upgrade the bootloader in most cases but I'd advise paying very close attention to the ROM instructions - it probably says something there about exactly what to do.
What ROM are you installing, and what are you coming from?
I'm thinking about Sensation 3.3 by Crysis or Hydrogen rom.
I'm coming from MIUI GB 2.3.7

The MD5 file package contains everything including bootloader, this you can watch on the ODIN while flash process, which start from bootloader if I am correct...
While moving from GB to ICS, if the bootloader update is a must, it whould have listed by every devs at the top of evrey ICS custom ROM installation manual, that you have to update Bootloader or to falsh a stock ICS Rom before flashing this ROM.....no where it is found.....so my conclusion is it is not a must, please correct me if I am wrong....

You're right
Updating bootloader is not necessary, even on cm9 as no bugs have been found
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
i found its better to have ICS bootloader for one reason only , triangle away
plus only CM9 requires a specific ICS bootloader, it will work on GB loaders just fine but if you have a newest ICS loader, only than you need to downgrade and that is posted in that thread and that loader is available easy.

just to let you know incase you dont know MD5 is a checksum / file verification. tar is a package
intratech merged that so one dont have to test everytime if he got curropted file.
odin auto checks it and let you know if you failed MD5 check.

Ok now the final question would be: What exactly is the benefit of the ICS Bootloader over the Stock Bootloader on the SGSII? also would like to mention that even if the wiki states that on CM9 : "You don't need to. There are currently no reports of issues having not flashed the bootloader. However, if you flash the ICS bootloaders, you can't reset the download count with a JIG any more." There needs to be a reason why they mention on the instructions on how to install the CM9 ROM the following: " - Make sure you're running ICS bootloaders lower than LPH: Download (flash as PDA with odin or extract and $ sudo heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin)" Even if there is no visual difference as confirmed by previous posts there needs to be a difference between stock and ICS bootloader otherwise it would be pointeless to even mention it exists.
Right now my SGSII was rooted while being on stock GB 2.3.4, then installed the RR 1.9.1 up to 2.6.1. Now decided to give CM9 a try but found on the instructions the ICS bootloader thing and now I am confused why would I keep the stock bootloader? or why should I move on to ICS bootloader?.Does the bootloader affects battery performance in any way?
Once JB arrives should the bootloader need to be updated or will the stock bootloader still work?
PD: using the USB jib I took the yellow triangle away, would it return if the ICS bootloader is flashed?
Too many questions, It will be greatly appreciated if someone takes the time to answer them.
Thanks in advance,
anyone knows?

usb jig only clears the triangle and the counter in old gb bootloader
and bootloader got nothin to do with battery life
flashing the bootloader will not increase the binary count... but after flashing custom rom obviously the kernel will not b stock so the yellow triangle wud appear
u can use triangle away app by chainfire it helps u clear the yellow triangle and the binary count in a click
..
and regardin jelly bean ... will see when it arrives .. for now ics bootloader will work
still i don't see the benefit of flashing the ICS bootloader. but thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. now I know that the yellow triangle will appear with the ICS bootloader.

I tried to see a way to make a FlashTool installable pre-rooted rom, but seems like there's no way
As of now, i'm trying to make a pre-rooted custom rom for LWW, and Android Kitchen allows the creation of one. This, of course, will be a .zip file which has to be installed from CWM, so i'll still need to do all the steps you did to get CWM, so, as far as i know, we're stuck into rooting the long way

I'm on my way to create a clean ics rom PRE-ROOTED, i just don't have enough time, if you would like to give me a hand i will apreciate that.
In the mean time just root your phone the long way, update to 4.0.4 an then install CWM Recovery and finally install this ROM, is the one i'm using right now and run really smooth, and it's pre rooted.
If you need help with any of those steps pm me.

This to me seems that Ben101 says "Stock jelly bean is still not released", which krayndr then declares "False!"
I work in software; I differentiate between a leak and a release. "Released to testers" is not a release. We send many builds to testers before we have a release candidate.

Not sure why you're directing this question to me; is it because I said I work in software? That doesn't mean I work in developing software specifically for this device, or even for Samsung devices in general...
But if you're having issue with a leaked firmware, doesn't it make sense to go back to a released firmware?

yes, u can do So ma8
but why we prefer GB > ICS > JB is that ur installation goes smooth without any issue and also rooting ICS is much easier (since lot of option's to do so) rather with GB.
but the choice is urs
PS- regarding EMMC bug it comes only with the stock kernel of ICS 4.0.4, while ICS 4.0.3 is safe from the same(EMMC bug)

Hi
First of all you need to root the phone. The best way to do that would be to flash cf-root compatible with your rom version. You can find exactly what your build is by checking settings > about phone
Find compatible cf-root kernel and put it in PDA in odin and flash... there are lot's of guides out there - won't be hard to find
Second, before you go further you need yoo updete your bootloader. So either flash ICS stock through odin (not recommended cause will unroot again) or flash bootloader through odin. Again there are proper guides for that...
Then you can upgrade to whatever you want...
Keep in mind that emmc cap bug does not exist in GB kernels. so you can use the CWM recovery in cf-root kernels for GB rather safely.
If you update to stock ICS then you need to keep an eye what kernel you're using to wipe data. Siyah and dorimanx are safe and I always use them.
Loads of roms out there, pure aosp, cm based, aokp based and the leaked sammy rom. Personally checked alot of each first three and also several versions of the leaked one... All good.
Word of edvice - do read more on those things. No matter how much expirience people who answer threads like that have, you'll never substitute your own knowledge and expirience.
Go on and root and enjoy the android world, mate. Best of luck

rom advice (wifes phone)

this is my wifes phone (I have a Note) I want to know what rom I can go to that is very stable , prefer ics :
Samsung SGH-I777
2.3.6
I777UCKK6
2.3.35.14
GINGERBREAD.UCKK6
sorry but I dont generally mess with her phone , she does have root and cwm touch 5.5.0.4 . There seems to be a wifi problem it turns on and then off , never sticking , I suppose wiping all might help , I hate seeming naive but when I mess with my own phone its all a chance , I dont want to just do that with hers!
There are a lot of stable roms. Do you want touchwiz based or AOSP based? I don't have an opinion on AOSP roms because I've barely used any of them.
For Samsung based roms, Shoman94's roms are very stable and popular. That's what I use as my daily driver. For ICS, use SHOstock2, but for the latest JB use SHOstock3.

When you flash a new ROM you will have to wipe. Also that's caused by using a foreign kernel aka one from galaxys2root.com

Siyah-v2.6.14-att-CWM , apparently I wiped it again , back to square one (she aint gonna be happy) , this is it still wont recognize wifi ?? what else can I do ,? I want to flash a rom with this keneral can I flash any of the roms you mentioned? will that fix my wifi? should I try to re-install this kernel , or use entropys? I hat to sound new , but I dont have this problem on the note or my a500 , I feel lost in here!

If I remember correctly, I think that version of the Siyah kernel was put out by zedomax on GalaxyS2Root website. That kernel combined with UCKK6 was always a problem. In fact, that package was always a problem.
Anyway, the kernel has ClockworkMod Recovery. You should decide on a good rom, as discussed above, download the zip file and use usb to transfer it to the sdcard on the phone, then boot into recovery, perform a wipe data/factory reset, and flash the rom. It doesn't matter that you are on Gingerbread right now. You can flash either an ICS or JellyBean rom because the package will contain the complete system and kernel and modem, everything.
---------- Post added at 07:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
Enter recovery by holding down all three of vol + vol - and power buttons continuously until it boots into recovery. If it won't boot into recovery, then it might be a bad flash.
Thank you, I got the siyah kernel from a thread here, when I first got the phone (off ebay )it did in fact have the wrong kernel,I used entropy flash back to get back,I guess I did something else, but I will use one of the roms you mentioned ,glad we have you here ,I've been messing with wp7 the last few years and finally getting back to android (cept been playing with boot loaders in a500)

It is exactly that, a counter, and the only purpose of it as far as we know is warranty protection, so I would say no, it's not important. On the other hand, most folks don't like the splash screen with the yellow triangle, but you can remove that easily enough if you still get it on boot.

I don't also have warranty so the flash counter is not my concern here, getting Shostock3 JB running on my phone is. pls my question is are there any other packages apart from the Shostock3 Rom that i would need to download to enable me flash the Shostock3 Rom?
What i have at the moment is the "I777UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock with Root" that i downloded thru your signature. Dose this contain everything i would be needing to successfully flash the Shostock3 Rom?
Thank you.

No. You also need to install a custom kernel that contains ClockworkMod Recovery. Please read through the guide "How to install custom firmware without incrementing the flash counter" (link in sig) because it will help you see how things fit together.

Put a link to the ROM thread so I can see if you need an ICS boot loader or any other prerequisites... I don't have this device..but I'd be more than happy to help you track down the issue

OK..from what I see. I'm betting you have a bad download. Try to download the kernel again and flash it. If you're tab is up and running you can grab the zip and flash it from recovery...just wipe cache and dalvik cache...flash kernel..but you need to make sure that kernel will boot with the ROM you have flashed...
If you're looking to just upgrade to the newest version of overcome. I would suggest you to get the zip file..wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system...then flash the ROM zip from recovery...
Also...are you're recoveries on this device separate from you're kernel or tied together...
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 AM ----------
Edit...I just read that if you trying to flash cm 10.1...you need to restock because of the partition changes...

Second or third paragraph in the guide you linked me to...
Also, based on experience, if you want to upgrade to other ROMs in the future you will have to keep your stock GB ROM file, your gt-p1000_mr.pit, the dbdata.tar and the entire Overcome kit (kernel and ROM). You will need all of them in the future because I've found that to install a new ROM you have to repeat the entire process of restocking to GB, then installing Overcome Kernel and ROM, then installing whatever ROM you want. It sucks, but it's the only way I've seen so far.
My take on this is that you need to go back to stock GB...then overcome...I'll read more to make sure..just thought I'd share this real quick as I just seen it..

Read that guide you linked...man. The answers are there for you...I just read some more of it...
But basically...you need to go back to GB...but first you need to flash the pit file from Odin to repartition the partitions...then Odin the GB ROM ...then overcome..its all in that guide...read...read...read.

Man...there is a great guide with pics if you click on the Google docs link...anyway.
You need to flash the overcome 4.0 kernel tar using Odin...let it do its thing..it changing system files. It will boot. After it up...boot to that recovery and flash the wipe all zip( put this on youre device before you flash the kernel )..reboot. You should now be able to flash any ROM you want from this setup..
