Hey guys,
I'm no babby to installing beta software or flashing or any of this business. However, I'm just wondering if CM7 is ready for so-called "prime time" on the Atrix yet. I don't really care about the fingerprint sensor or webtop at all. Sans those two things how is everything else working on there these days? How is battery life and overall system stability?

From my experience its great. Battery life is identical to a blur rom, and performance is very good. Also no stability issues that I've seen.
It's my daily driver. Best experience on the Atrix yet for me. Battery life is great. I usually get through the whole day. now that it's merged it should just get better and better. I'd suggest it.

Just do it.... it's technically out of beta now.
Only things that don't work:
- Finger Print Scanner
- Webtop
- Horizontal HDMI Mirroring
- Dock Audio
As far as battery goes, that's pretty much subjective from user to user... also depends with kernel you decide to run... if you want good battery life on CM7, might want to try Faux's enhanced stock kernel & add some undervolting.
When you say, dock audio, does this just mean the audio cable that splits off of the power cable doesn't work? Does Bluetooth audio still works when it's the car dock?

Thanks guys. I went ahead and flashed it and loving it so far!
I'm glad you flashed it! I was really hesitant to leave the safe, stable world of deblurred roms and venture into fingerprint-scanner-less world of CM7. However, with it out of Beta I finally took the plunge and it opened up a whole new world to me. Now having taken the red pill, I can never go back.
CM7 is without a doubt the most powerful rom available. It is so good that it makes me hesitation regarding lack of fingerprint scanner silly.

thanks master of google
I flashed the new version and i dont know what is happening but mine is too slow to scroll apps, change screen, etc. Does anyone here is happening samething?
I'm using CM7 and am blown away by the speed, features, and how clean it is.
There naturally are quirks, as its still in beta. The only major issue I've had is lack of ability to control permissions.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I had similar issues. I think they're related to the cooked in ADW Launcher. I just replaced it with Launcher Pro, and my homescreen and app drawer scroll smoothly and quickly.
As much as I love CyanogenMod its a no go for me.
The only reason I use the Atrix 4G and consider it a superb smartphone is because on Webtop and Fingerprint Scanner. Whitout those two key things, I might have moved to something else like the SGS2.
Too bad those features are not priorities for CyanogenMod devs I presume.
Cheers

Not to sound abrasive, but it has nothing to do with priorities. You should read up on what they are facing with those two things.

Why don't you use Aura or Alien or any of the other custom ROMs that DO have those features? They're still way faster and leaner than the stock moto builds.
ive been on homebase for a while now and pretty happy with it but i want to try a newer rom that is being supported and update. my requirements are webtop, car dock, hdmi dock and fingerprint scanner are included.
GingerMod or Wet Dream
There's also Darkside but I believe the dev on that one is finishing up support on it

I'm waiting for Dev to finish with cm9 and i'm flashing right away..
the only thing stopping me from flashing cm7 or 9 is that webtop is not supported it.

For gingerbread i think darkside (or wet dream) are the best. All stock functions work, as well as landscape hdmi mirroring which are important for me.
However jokersax's cm9 ics build is almost at the point where you can run it as a daily driver. Looks like almost everything will be fixed in the coming week or few

1. You will have to go Full blur to get everything (car) working.
There is a Script to go full blur or you can add the needed apk's from the script directly in the rom zip (i prefer the second way)
2. Don't think webtop is working on neutrino because it is a stripped down CM7

Well, I know everybody has a different opinion about "best". But my DX2 is getting slower everyday. It is running the stock 2.3.4 rom currently. I have had to pull the battery out multiple times in the past month just to get out of the frozen mode. That's no fun!
So, here I am looking for a new rom, wifi is vital to me since I use it all the time, well, pageplus does not give much choice. Camera/camcorder are also extremely important (so miui is out?). Other than that, the rom should be as stable as possible, as snappy as possible. With the stock rom, open each app is a painful waiting of 2-3 seconds.
Alright, folks, please recommend! TIA
Upgrade to 2.3.5
Flash Eclipse
Enjoy.

I'm gonna say a tie between eclipse and cm7. I switch between the two often and they are both great and about equal in performance.

i've seen a few people say this. it must be an app issue. i only got the DX2 a few weeks ago, used stock for less than 35 minutes, then i flashed RC0 and RC1 CM7. I've had 1 FC related to Google Play Music, but other than that it has been smooth and fast. The lag when I sbf'd was pronounced, but i've had zero issues with CM7. are people restoring app data through TB or something? it just doesn't make sense that people could install the same rom the same way, then some say "fast; awesome" and others say "unstable; buggy."

Weird how some people have problems with CM7 and some have none. I've been running it over 4 weeks with zero issues. No FCs or anything. I used Pete's method of rooting and of course you have to load a special modified CM7 X2 Bootstrap after installing CM7. I'm just curious as to what could be the cause of some people having issues.
Turn camcorder on, then turn flash on. Record, then turn of the cam. Fced twice forth me

Great idea. I was looking for a rom but am lacking the time to research each and every thread and its posts to root out the good and bad of each. I was going to post and ask myself about a decent working rom with the most working functions and with little bugs. Hopefully those with time will give feedback and include ALL the info you requested in your OP for those of us lacking the free time.
There are so many now. I know some say "go search", but not all of us have the time to weed through all details in each post. Thanks again.

Hell, I have 4G where I live and I still unlocked. Wimax is worthless with the 2500mhz spectrum. It only works outside in the middle of the street when you're not moving.
I see little mention of them here, but the ICS builds that spleef,; Th3Bill, and Teqm Moto Tegra have put together based on Joker's CM9 are pretty nice, too. I'm running CNA right now and other than two items which do have work arounds (camera needs 3rd party app and browser is set to landscape only), they are very smooth and stable. I'm running spleef's AOKP build 36 and overall, everything works great! Very usable with only a few annoyances that I am sure will be fixed in time.
I need a ROM with a stable navigation app because I travel for work a lot. So far only the stock ROM works well enough for daily use. CM7, AOKP, and CM9 all exhibit strange behavior like spontaneous rebooting or switching back to Car Home repeatedly despite the navigation continuing to call turns.
CM9 and AOKP also don't seem to work with my car dock well, I can't get any sound to go through the AUX port. I also noticed that when I drove around SoCal for a while with any of the CM ROMs, the screen will blank when the phone got hot. I restored a stock rom and had no problems in the same situations. CM7 doesn't have any problems playing music through the dock but the unstable nav bums me out.

I've been using CM9 for 4-5 weeks now, and I like it. It's nearly perfect, but the rotation and camera bugs aren't exactly deal breakers for me, though I would like to have full use of my phone. CM9 just got an update, but CM7.2 is updated almost daily, and I suppose everything works due to the Gingerbread drivers being available. Plus, Gingerbread uses fewer resources. It's not overclocked, but I imagine in running at 1GHz it gets better battery life.
So just wondering what the Photon/Electrify users think, and a poll for nice statistics.
I was using cm9 as my daily for many months. When the newness wore off I started experimenting with other roms including cm7. And I must stay, after using cm7, cm9 seems to feel very sloppy and forced. This is no fault of joker, just the current tools he is given. Cm7 is absolutely a dream and is leaps and bounds more customizable than cm9 in its current iteration. You'll find that everything works without flaw and that battery is much better. All in all, if you need to be on the bleeding edge, run cm9. If you want full functionality and everything to just work, run cm7.

Thanks for the input. That's all very helpful. I love the hell outta ICS/CM9 and I have it set up nice, but I'm going on vacation in a couple months, and, while I'd like to show off ICS, stability and fluidity will be more important, as well as battery life.
And no, I don't wanna knock Joker either, he does great work, I'm just not sure if I'm a bleeding edge kind of guy. Part of me is (the whole geek thing) but another part of me wants something that just works. I'll get something that's risky and cool (Paranoid Android in tablet mode, for example) and then I'll go back to something safe. Actually using Paranoid Android in phone mode right now. I like the centered (yes, iPhone-like) clock.
I like CM9 but the camera stuff is a deal breaker for me. I've used the CM7/2.3.5 hybrid from peetr. It's smooth, fast, battery-sipping, and wonderful. I love the 1080p video camera. I tried overclocking it (you can do that with CM7 roms, by the way), but I didn't really notice a difference in speed, and it seems just a bit unstable. I think the biggest difference people notice in speed with overclocking, other than benchmarks, is the fact that they don't have a bunch of apps and settings slowing their phone down when they first load a new ROM, so of course it seems faster than what they were just working with.

Jellybean will be less stable than cm9 and hellaless stable than cm7 for a while. Try to remember that it's taken joker months of hard work to make cm9 this stable on a gingerbread kernel and components from other devices. Jellybean is exciting, but it's a generally small update that is meant to fix bugs and introduce a couple new apps. The problems we have with cm9 (lack of libs, kernel) will still exist.
You forgot its gonna make things extremely smooth.

He's talking about Project Butter, I think. That should work on Tegra 2...

I would use CM9 as my daily, but without the right drivers and the resulting issues with navigation, it's a deal breaker for me.

Butter is considered by many to not be all that its cracked up to be. And again, considering our lack of libs and kernel, butter will be of limited help for us as of yet.

I'm pretty sure Butter will require working drivers to work properly, so as excited as I am to see a JB port to our Photons, I doubt it'll be nearly as smooth as it seems until we get proper drivers =/.
I'm currently on CM 7.2 and loving it, but will move over to CM9 once we get some leaked drivers/kernel from Motorola. Joker does some great work, and it's impressive to see how much is working on ICS without those bits from Moto.
I agree. I am using Cm7 because it is stable. I really like Cm7 but am ready to move back to a more stable CM9.
I love both ROMs, but after using AOKP i can't go back to a GB ROM
What does AOKP have over CM9?
