turn on usb debugging and msc mode.
Flash neo v 4.0.3 kernel only file in ftf format with flashtool..
power on now but u cant see display it'll be blank
however usb debugging will work so connect cable and root with "DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su".
Now download Neo L 4.0.4 kenel only ftf file uploaded by me from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792319 and flash it via flash tool.

Amin, the configuration screen shows Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes in my phone. Does that mean that I have to take no further steps to unlock my bootloader before proceeding to the instruction given by Vasiulla?

using flashtool just flash kernel only...no need to flash system files and etc....you can flash stock kernel (inside tft files) or flash custom kernel that come with pre-rooted and CWM....
I'm trying with 0.8.5, 0.8.6 and 0.9 flashtool. all I need is kernel and excluded everything but kernel and error is one frop post above
Why are you trying to install MT11i kernel on SK17i? That's where it goes wrong.

I'm not completely sure, but i dont think you can put Neo's kernel on XMP... That was possible only for those phones that got 4.0.3 update (way before XMP,LWW and others got their 4.0.4).
If your bootloader is locked, you have to go the long way around, flashing .42/.58 GB, root it, prepare for ICS (to keep root on ICS) and then flash it to ICS, keeping in mind not to erase user data.
If you have unlocked bootloader, just put prerooted kernel (Rage, Krsh, Mesa, Extended kernel etc...) in fastboot (i think).

I suggest you use search before asking someone to explain it to you... There are couple of threads that explain both methods of bootloader unlock (official and TP).
With official method, you're losing your warranty... If you dont plan to put custom kernel/rom, you shouldnt do it, since there is way around it with locked bootloader(mentioned above).

XDA Unlocking BL thread:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
Droidians,
I've been working 'hard' (for a noob) recently trying to desperately root my Xperia U ST25i. As mentioned in the title, the build is 6.1.1.b.1.54 and is running ICS 4.0.4. The bootloader has also been unlocked, but no matter whether I use the command line Bin4ary restore root or Flashtool in order to root it, it's just failing.
Any advice would be appreciated. Should I downgrade to GB and try from there? If so, where can I find a GB ftf file for my specific model/firmware etc?
AW: Sony Xperia U ICS 6.1.1.b.1.54 Wont Root!
The .54 firmware is not rootable by the root and restore method. You have to flash .10 firmware-kernel to root and then flash .54 firmware-kernel.

Hope it helped

Re-root if you have your bootloader locked... or use a kernel if unlocked...
When you flashed new firmware, the whole system folder was replaced with new one.It did not have su binary needed for superuser to run.So you lost root access.
Just flash 6.1.1.b.1.10 kernel, root with bin4ry or flashtool and then flash back 6.1.1.b.1.54 kernel. You will be rooted again.
Kernal vs Firmware confusion...

Hi Djuganight,
If you are on firmware version 6.2.A.1.100 , you should use the Root toolkit by Doomlord(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335992) , just download the zip file and extract it on your PC , and run the .bat(windows) or .sh(mac/linux), you will need your phone in usb debugging mode and with unknown source allowed(setting--> security--> unknown sources) and this toolkit will do the work and root your phone. Later you can flash the ROM which you need.
