You are dependent upon your vendor to push out the updates
Or are you asking is what is the last released firmware that may not be for your phone ??
LG8 LG9 some countries only LH1 some countries only modem only update .
You could join XDA Developers and flash whatever you want .

Yes but not for your phone but they will work on your phone .

The original seller 3UK is your update souirce ..
I am not keen on rooting
But a stock rom does not require rooting its a standard Samsung rom
and flashing as everything is working and i am more concerned about a reliable device. I guess there are differences if done OTA or via USB/Kies
OTA is usually a smaller patched firmware Kies would be a full rewrite .
But thats guesswork not seen Kies or OTA on my phones for years .
99% of XDA involves rooting or flashing as that's why we exist .

You could join XDA Developers and flash stock firmware or branded firmware or via CHECKFUS .

Yes using odin to flash. You can flash the stock rom. My phone comes with ALE8 and two days ago I've flashed ALF2. No problems here.

As long as you follow a flashing guide to a TEE (do not skip any steps and do not TL;DR anything). Golden Rule #1 of Flashing: NEVER TICK RE-PARTITION.

I'm new with Samsung devices, so bare with me with my noob questions.
1. The different basebands are for the languages or the system?
I'm from Malaysia with the baseband of DXLE9. Build XXALEF.
Can I flash with different baseband & build? Or the baseband have to be the same?
2. How about rooting?
Should I follow the baseband & build versions or straight away root?

Hi
Im new here and new to samsung as i purchased a S3 and absolutely love it so far (goodbye iphone!)
The item is on the network '3' and locked to 3 so what i want to do is debrand the phone so there would be no more 3 pre-installed apps and logos and then root the phone and try the voodoo unlock app to try and unlock it.
I know how to root the phone and install the apk file I am just confused on how to debrand the phone using odin, i do not know which specific firmware I should be using.
I would REALLY APPRECIATE it if someone could send me a direct download link to the network/carrier free firmware that I need to flash my phone and the specific version of Odin that I need and a video/picture tutorial on how to flash as i have never flashed android firmwares.

CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.

Am on three network I have upgraded to the latest firmware via Odin and unbranded but I noticed my 3g connection Is very poor this wasn't the case before I debranded I don't want to root but can I flash the 3modem separately? And please post the link the to the modems thread I can't seem to find it .

Any I9300 stock rom would basically work. Just choose one for your region at Sammobile! You have to register, but it has all the stock FW you'll need.
Just make sure you flash the right one in ODIN under PDA with all the checkmarks as it, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION or anything else.
If you want to root afterwards, flash CWM, and then SuperSU/SuperUser, which one is just preference. I personally prefer SuperSU.

Else slowly ota update to jellybean if you haven't root

I'm from Argentina, using Movistar carrier phone. I've decided to use the last stock firm from UK, usually gots the latest firms updates, my recomendation, update to UK (BTU) from sammobile, then, root the phone, then, install triangle away, it will reset the counter for CFW. This time reset the samsung galaxy csc from the google play store, this will wipe your phone and reset to the desire country, select UK. Finally now you can check that your phone looks original, and is updateable with kies

Jepp, you're right, didn't notice that, so I went to your suggested post and also noticed:
'I am no longer supporting this version of CF-Root. I have personally moved away from permanent custom recoveries. I will still be providing roots by way of CF-Auto-Root (click). The downloads in this thread will remain available, I just won't be updating them..'

I suppose I'll still use the remover/cleaner to '0' the counter and I'll just have to see about Kies/OTA when Samsung releases 4.1.2.

If I have stock Firmware customized by the provider (4.1.2 Orange) and I install an official untouched firmware with Odin, will the CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD remain NONE and the IMEI remain the same?
I don't want to wait for Orange to release the updates, but i would like to keep the warranty.

u can flash it without worrying about custom binary download..if u stock other country STOCK firmware,it will remain said official..
So basically if i flash another firmware from another carrier who does not customize it in my country, i can still keep warranty and make updates from Kies or OTA.

Yes but if you flash a rom for Sweden you wait for Sweden updates and you may need to change Modem or and CSC for your location .

I just flashed the firmware. PDA: I9300XXELL6 CSC: I9300OXFELL1
However the CSC from the recovery menu remained ORO, from the original firmware and Kies told me that it can not provide updates for this firmware. I used "Samsung Galaxy S / S2 / S3 CSC" from the market to change it to COA, as this is the CSC from the carrier the firmware is and now Kies tells me that i have the latest firmware. Also CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD is NONE and it says official.
