Overclock for official ICS - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The ICS update was released in 2 different countries according to the development forums so I decided to put the firmware on my US Galaxy Tab 10.1. I saw that there was a way to root it already, but once I got it rooted, I found no way to overclock, so does anyone know if there is an overclockable kernel for the official ICS? Does Pershoot have any? Thanks

Hi,
same issue here.
The ICS Kernel from Pershoot is for CM9/10 only and won't work with official ICS from samsung (tried it, no WiFi and Auto Brightness isn't working)
Anyone?

Tapa talk is going crazy for me lol.
Basically a custom kernel for the current Official ICS release cannot be made until Samsung release the source code for it. Which they have not done yet.
Once they do, devs like pershoot, will be able to create custom kernels like those currently available for the honeycomb release.

Hm,
Kernel sources have been released, any one found a OC 3.x kernel so far?
- ThyMaster

Yes I got one oc kernel build by myself.
Runs fine at 1.2 Ghz but when I clock higher it run into boot loops.
Working for three days on it and I cant seem to figure it out.
I didnt have this problem with the old source code.
Building my own kernels for 6 months now.
My 3.1.10 kernel has bfq scheduler and voodoo sound support and runs at 1.2 Ghz.
I dont make my kernels public because I dont have time to answer noob questions.
But if you interested I could upload the kernel to this threath.

[Q] Upgrade Kernel or No?

I have been playing with a bunch of different ROMs to see what I like best. Right now i have settled on Vegan 5.1.1. Is there any reason to load anyone else's kernel on top of vegan? Vegan is doing everything I expect it to so I am pretty set, but always looking to improve if possible.
I would say experiment if you know what you're doing (how to flash, understand the risks, etc.)
If you don't like the changes, it's as simple as re flashing your current rom to go back to that kernel that's built in.
Clemsyns new kernel is best for VEGAn beta 5.1.1. It fixes sleep death issues and has other speed and stability tweeks. Trust me on this. I stayed stock kernel for a long time but about a week ago clemsyn spent 3 days constantly testing and upgrading his kernel. Its great and really kicks net performance up a notch.
Hope that helps
I'm pretty sure that Vegan 5.1 actually includes one of Pershoot's kernels.
It may be a somewhat older one though.
I would recommend a custom kernel. Performance increases and CIFS support alone makes it worth the time and effort to add one.
I don't add them to TNT Lite, to keep it within the "mostly stock" spirit. But I link to two custom kernels because I think they are worth trying.

vegan 5.1 uses an old kernel build by rothnic.
vegantab (gingerbread), which is based off of cm7, uses an old kernel by myself.
Has anyone found a good kernal for the vegan gingerbread beta? I was looking for a clemsyn kernal but it doesn't seem like a good one is releaded yet.

vegan gingerbread beta comes with an older kernel build done by myself.
if you wish to upgrade that kernel to the latest revision (2.6.32.36) which includes some other refinements/amendments which have been made since then:

Can you please provide the link of this kernel that works great with VEGAn beta 5.1.1.

It's in developmen. Look for clemsyn's kernel tthread. V7 is the best. You will notice a bbbig difference in fluidity of device and speed.
Are the custom kernels only for custom ROMs or do they work for stock as well?

[Q] Atrix 4g kernel choices?

New to xda, have a rooted, unlocked 2.3.4 ATT atrix.
I'm running faux123's kernel, just wondering what other kernel choices are out there, for over-clocking, etc.
Ty
If I am not wrong so far are 3:
Fau123's: Actually is the one I am using fast & stable, just the bug of the battery after install that need to re calibrate after been install (easy fix)
Edgan: Stable & conservative Nice to give a try
Kholk: Last thing I read, he trow the towel until Motorola release the source of GB code due to a bug in the WIFI module

Is the kernel source only released for moto 2.2 right now?
Yes.
The gb kernel is not officially released.
It's source code will be released after the official release of gb I think..

So how ironic. All this time the 2.2 kernel source has been available, but nobody could compile their own kernel cause with a locked boot loader it couldn't be flashed. Now that we have unlock, everybody is on 2.3.4 so nobody wants a 2.2 custom kernel.
Has anybody tried making a custom 2.2 kernel and flashing it to a 2.2 ROM now that its possible? I'd imagine the kernel will have lots of similar code between the two...
I think the reason the answer is NO because you will loose some proprietary hardware, that I don't think so Motorola will release those codes (aka fingerprint reader)

Problems after ELITE OC

i have wet dream 1.4.4 and i flashed with elite 1.4ghz over the current 1.45ghz now the phone freezes alot, reboot loops.. how can i revert that ?
Flash fuax123s 1.45 OC unified kearnel easily be found in the ATRIX 4g development page
Don't forget to thank and gl

thanks does this mean its not compatible or i cant go higher or what?
There are 1.6GHz overclocks out there right now so it isn't an issue of speed, but it may have just been a bad flash or there could be something else with the build you are using and the kernel's problems are un-related.
I wouldn't worry, but just flash a new kernel and give it a go. You can always go back.

The problem is that is wasn't compatible WD is a AT&T build so use faux123 kernels and the elite that you were flashing is for cm7 builds this is a problem btwn AT&T and international for example I own international and to use old WD I had to either flash a unified kernel or use the "Ramfix" b4 it would run on mine but feel free to play around with it maybe try using the elite with the "Ramfix" let me know if that works just keep a backup of the working kernel so you can always go back and you'll be fine gl

Many phones just can't handle that much of an OC. Read the Faux or Clemsyn kernel threads and you will see this. Very few people have been able to run the higher OC kernels because like a PC, all hardware is not the same. If you experience boot loops, freezes, etc., you need to flash a lower clocked kernel.
And yes, make sure you flash one which is compatible.

[Q] Quick question regarding Kernels

Hi, I've just a quick question regarding kernels (in general)
I'm currently running a JB ROM by TheBill, and it's running great. However, coming from my previous phone with a custom rom, I see there aren't many governers available. I would think that a custom kernel would do the trick, but would they work regardless of rom/OS version? Most of the ones I see seem to be for Gingerbread/Froyo, and I'm with Jelly Bean.
I didn't try this so I am not sure, but I think that kernels have their compatibilities with rom. So whatever kernel you are going to flash just read the kernel's details. Then you'll know what roms (cm7,cm9,cm10etc.) it will support. And I hope that you know kernels are phone specific.
Atrix 4G, CM7 based TopSmarts 1.3 rom, Faux123 1ghz kernel.
If I m helpful dont hesitate to thank me.
Don't try to mix and match kernels unless you know what you're doing. It will probably not work as expected, very likely not at all.
There's probably a reason for the lack of governors in some kernels, don't you think?

Well I'm running CM10 and it seems like most of the kernels haven't been developed specifically for 4.1, which is why I brought up the question.

Well, I was wondering if I could get a bit of a power boost with a kernel supporting overclocking, but if I do try and install a kernel that doesn't work out, a Nandroid backup should restore my previous kernel as well?

[Q] Kernel that supports Overclocking on Jelly Bean

I'm new to the Fascinate, I had an HTC Incredible 2 and I was heavily involved in their community before it died. I found a Fascinate for cheap and I'm currently looking for few things for it.
First I'm running Slim Bean for it and the Wi-Fi is horribly slow. Is there a firmware update for it or anything? When I got it, it still had 2.3.5 stock on it.
Secondly whats the best recovery to use for it? I'm currently running CWM Voodoo LagFix Recovery v3.0.2.8x.ti. Sadly for some reason I can't create Nandroids with it.
Thirdly I'm looking for a good stable Kernel that supports OC'ing on Jelly Bean ROM's.

slim is great ... it comes with the recovery included...
wouldnt be supprised if "CWM Voodoo LagFix Recovery v3.0.2.8x.ti." [not heard of before] wasn't slowing things down trying to run on a 4.2.2 this stuff has been generally added in to jellybean or dropped because not needed/doesn't work with...

Don't ever flash another recovery on 4.2.2 I'm honestly surprised it didn't brick you haha. Anyway just look in general section and find the devil kernel it allows up to 1.4ghz

Actually I followed the first tutorial I found for rooting a Fassy running on GB. When I installed Slim Bean I guess it install a CWMR Touch v6.0.3.0 so I guess that's better. Coming from HTC phones this is alot different, it seems we had far more options when it came to recovery systems. Also Overclocking was built into most of our ROM's, I had my DINC2 running at 1.5ghz.
Currently the only problem I see, is that the Fassy is far slower than my INC ever was, so hopefully that Devil Kernel will speed it up. Also still having problems with slow Wi-Fi speeds. Data seems to work fine though.

Whooo, close one, thought you flashed that cwm after flashing slim...
at the moment devil recovery is the only one that offers more [better] governor & i/o plus overclocking choices
twrp is nice but no one has yet to build one with more than the 1200 OC and std governor & i/o settings
My Personal Favorite Devil settings are
100 - Min
1300 - Max
Lulzactive - Governor
Zen - I/O Scheduler
and SD read ahead 1024
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
on the wi-fi speeds look at Section 7: Radio/Modems
my daily driver setup has [ED05] which gives me a really good overall blend of wifi/3g performance,
my next choice was the [EC09]
third is the std [EH03] - worst 3g performance for me at my work...
