HTC Dev unlock help - HTC EVO 3D

ok went through some of the other q&a's and didnt really find the answer i was looking for. i took the updates for the bootloader that were provided not ota. i still have my s-off but am now locked hboot 1.58.0000 radio 1.09.00.0706 adsp-v02.6.0.2226.00.0217 basically what i want to know is do i really have to do all this BS as stated on htcdev unlock method or is there an easier way to unlock my bootloader. i cant even restore nand backups because of bootlooping thanks for any help sorry if this sounds like a noob question but i mainly know enough to get me by and for awhile due to family issues i have kinda been out of the loop on things once again thank you.

You are s-off so there is no need to unlock the bootloader. S-Off > Unlocked.
I am unsure as to why your nandroid backups are bootlooping. My understanding is that they should work. Are they from ROMs based on the VM ICS leak?

Its possible one that I favored was cyanogen 9 idk if it was vm based or not thank you

If you like CM9, you could just downgrade your hboot to 1.4 and flash it. One of the luxuries of being s-off.

[q] htc dev unlocked & s-on

Dear fellow XDA members,
I am in need of some assistance. I just got my HTC EVO VIEW 4G and unfortunately, I accidentally upgraded to Android 3.2 HoneyComb without doing the Revolutionary S-OFF, so currently I did an HTC Dev unlock on my View but it still says "EXPRESS PVT SHIP S-ON RL" and it also updated the "HBOOT-1.14.0005." I tried checking out Revolutionary website and it does not support HBOOT-1.14.0005, so I was wondering what can I do? Do I need S-OFF for anything? I currently have Clockwork Mod installed on my View but it still has S-ON so I was scared about flashing ROMS. I am trying to flash Desensed 1.5 but is scared that I need S-OFF to do so... Can anyone chime in to help me please...
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
PS: BTW, I been searching and reading and rereading.... I just don't understand..
1) You'll need to downgrade to GB
2) you'll then need to run revolutionary for S-OFF
3) you can then re-upgrade to HC S-OFF

This sems like a pretty cool thing, will it work for the flyer? if not, is there a tool like this for the flyer?

I don't think there is anything in the tool, that globatron hasn't already written a guide for on the Flyer. And none of them are hard to do. Anything particular you are trying to do?
ive done the OTA update, and then unlocked using HTC-DEV method becasue my HBOOT is 11.11.0011 and revolutionary didnt liost that hboot as being compatible. Ive been able to install a revolutionary Clockwork mod nad then went ahead and flashed LeeDriods ROM. But now it just starts up with the R2D2 sounds, boots a little and restarts.
Ive been reading and I think it either needs to flashed from fastboot or need to downgrade to GB and relevant hboot.
Also even though I have unlocked the bootlaoder from htc-dev it still says "s-on"?
I'm in the same boat. My flyer is
Hboot 1.11.001
OTA to HC
Unlocked the bootloader using HTC method
Load CW recovery.
Can I just follow the directions to down grade?
sorry to ask people for help again.. but there are alot of guides for unlocking/downgrading/flashing etc. could someone just point me in the right direction of one guide that is applicable to my particular case?
thank you.

I don't know why people keep coming on here and asking why they still have S-On after HTC Unlock. Its never been stated that HTC Unlock gets you S-Off, it just gives you an unlocked bootloader, which is not the same thing.
If you want real S-Off, downgrade and root using globatron's guide:
htthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307759p://
Then you can upgrade back to HC if you want using the following guide (also by globatron, becuase he's the man). You will also need to have the HC Hboot if you want to flash a HC custom ROM, which is also described in the following guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
If you want to flash a custom ROM without getting S-Off, from my understanding you can do so using fastboot. But I haven't seen any step-by-step guide. You might start reading here:

It might be just me but I don't see anything in these guides with anything to downgrade the hboot on 16gb Flyer to gain compatibility with Rev. root method. It is not for me personally but seems others here are having that issue. With those newer hboot versions is there even anything that can be done at this time?
My understanding is that when unlocked with HTC dev you can flash recovery then adb push gb hboot while in recovery then run appropriate gb ruu. Once on gb rev s off then update to hc s off

Or are there still GB Hboot versions not supported by Revolutionary?

S off but locked?

I have s off but my phone says locked. Is that normal or do I need to unlock again?
I want to flash Scotts new roms and just curious.
thanks

No DO NOT unlock because if you do, you will need to S-on before you are able to re-lock and return your phone to stock.
You need to flash the patched HBOOT for whichever firmware you are currently running (GB or ICS) and the "locked" will go away in addition to full use of fastboot commands.
Or just flash amonra as a ph98img.zip file.... After that just download a rom and boot to recovery and flash the new rom from there.
Definitely don't unlock though... If you do you will always show unlocked or relocked.
I had to s on then back off because I made that mistake and unlocked when it first came out. If you don't use adb commands there's no real reason to switch hboot.

Edit: swifkey sucks with typos lol
I thought you needed to be unlocked to do s-off? Or does s-off change

You do need unlocked to do it but when you get s off your phone goes to locked unless you flash the correct hboot

So witch hboot is the correct one? My fiance just got this phone and due to her horrible computer I spent 6.5 hours doing everything up to this point this evening.. I installed Scott's newest ROM... Just wondering where to go from here and **IF** its possible to OC on this ROM? I have the worst phone ever DX2, but this is my 3'rd android phone and am decently well aware of the android O.S.
Thanks ~ Jake
EDIT: I also understand the search function, however, this forum is so vast I simply don't have the time to read 100+ pages per post to find one line of information ... sorry if its a dumb or -noob- question... thanks again

Depends on which firmware you are on and what you want to do. You can simply do the S-off process without flashing the jb hboot to get to S-off. Then flash recovery in your bootloader (use a PH98IMG.zip) to be able to flash your Rom. If you want fastboot commands while still being locked, either use the jb hboot or the modified hboot in the dev section, depending on your current hboot version.
You can OC the phone, but ICS kernels have perflock enabled, so scaling doesn't work great. Options are better on GB.

[Q] Downgrading h boot

Hi all I am currently using a ics Rom with hboot 1.5 s on my goal is to be able to flash these roms with out using chads fix which helped me a lot thanks chad but it looks like the kernel won't be updated to fix breaks. So I have gone thru forums and have seen downgrading to 1.4 s off. My question is this if I downgrade will I loose the flash I have for metro pcs? And is it nessasary to downgrade to accomplish what I would like to achieve having ics without the breaks. Thank you all for the help.
sorry
Hi again sorry didn't say. I have a HTC EVO 3d cdma
Some roms have built in support for metro (like nocturnal ics), so you could downgrade and then flash one of those.
Or you could do a nandroid of your current setup and restore it after the downgrade process.

Before you attempt to downgrade, please write down all MetroPCS radio/PRI/PRL, etc info. Someone asked a similar question somewhere else about Boost. I believe he warned everyone that it will erase and you need all the info to restore his Boost (MOST LIKELY metroPCS) service.
You can also take a screen shot of the settings as well.

Ok Thank you all for your help but let me ask this there's this (wire trick) I hear there's a lot of success and I hear that some fail. If I did choose to use this method would it too remove flashed metro info? And does it have to be h-boot 1.4 s.off to flash the i.c.s roms or can I use 1.5 h-boot s.off? I'm still pretty new to this but starting to get the hang reading what a lot of great people are posting.

From my reading, it seems either is ok. I still would suggest 1.4 s-off as that's what I have and it is solid for me. Roms flash with no trouble and I get no bootloops. But the 1.5 s-off method is easier so maybe someone with 1.5 s-off can report their success rate (ease of flashing roms, stability, etc).

I think that's actually the thread where someone warned about his Boost info getting wiped, I could be wrong.
After s-off is achieved, hboot is sorta irrelevant. You can always flash a new hboot. I'm on eng hboot 1.04.
I upgraded my hboot from 1.4 to 1.58 and my Evo 3d reverted back to sprint, I had to pay again to flash it back to metropcs.
The same happened when I flashed a jelly bean rom. Tried 3 times different roms with no success. I've spent enough money already to buy a 4G LTE.

[Q] Root and s-off

Hi guys, my friend wants me to root his rezound and get s-off for him. His rezound obviously has ics and I am having a hard time finding a tut on how to do this with ics. He has never rooted a phone, and I have done both my dinc and my dinc2 (dinc2 is my current phone) about a half a dozen times, thats why I am doing it for him. But rooting ics is new to me, as mine was gingerbread when i did it. Can someone point me to a good tut on how to root and get s-off on his rezound with ics? Thanks guys
Doesn't matter that's it's ICS.
***edit to add... I misread your orig. post and thought you had rooted and s-offed a Rezound of your own on GB. s-off is tricky on this, you have to short out something on the phone to do it. You really should read a lot before you do anything, especially since it's someone else's phone. ***
HTCdev Unlock (save the unlock token as you can reuse it for same device) (find guides in dev section, sticky roll up thread)
flash recovery (Amon Ra or TWRP)
root through recovery
s-off http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612035
flash ROM
There's more detailed info on which hboot to use etc... you'll have to search around for that sort of info. Again, I would really read through this forum thoroughly before you do anything. You don't have to s-off, it makes flashing the ROMs easier as it automates flashing the kernel but it also makes it easier to brick the phone.
There's a global leak RUU you can run if you want global:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
You have to relock to run that, so after you flash the recovery you can relock and run global RUU, then unlock again and flash ROM. Or I think if you s-off first you don't have to relock. Not sure as I'm still s-on.
When you're s-off you don't need to relock to run an ruu. The s-off process relocks the boatloader for you and there is no reason to ever unlock again.

Thanks for the info. I unlocked the bootloader with htcdev, flashed AmonRa, rooted, and did the JuopunutBear s-off procedure to get s-off. Yes, after I was s-off, my bootloader was relocked. All is good now Oh one more thing...looking for the most stable ics based rom available. Either sense 3.6 or 4.0 (4.1?), or even aosp. I just want stability for the phone.

Stability?
Nils', Newtoroot's, Rezone Redux, or a stock ruu with root/busybox.
Want some speed and a hair just under rock solid? Flash my own rom, Viral OTA (Global based).
lol ya, Im not use to stable ics roms. I have a dinc2 myself and we dont have ics or 3.0 kernel source either so our ics roms are a little less than stable, but still good for a hacked up gb kernel. Thanks for the recommendations

[Q] Root? S-Off? I'm freakin' confused...

Jeez I feel like an idiot for posting, because I've been reading threads and such for well over an hour but we've always been told there are no dumb questions right?
Ok, so I rooted my original EVO with Unrevoked years ago and have been happily flashing ROM's, radio's and the like ever since.
Now I've got a new EVO 4G LTE and I'm thinking I can come home today, root/s-off and be on my merry way flashing SuperJelly. Apparently, it's not quite so straight forward?
I've read the sticky thread how to root, etc but I have HBOOT 2.09 so it looks like LazyPanda and the like are not options to get s-off. There's even a thread on how there's no exploit for HBOOT 2.09 yet.
There's still much confusion in my brain about where to go next...
Unlock bootloader with HTCDev?
Then flash TWRP?
Feeling very NOOBish, but better to ask than to brick.

You know what to do. Now you just have to do it.
This is a very "Yoda" moment happening here... Thanks Capt.
Hm. I remember seeing this today, but I went back an re-read the article. It might be worth waiting for an HBOOT 2.09 exploit.
http://www.pocketables.com/2012/12/...es-for-rooted-s-on-htc-evo-4g-lte-owners.html
Unlocking your bootloader now is not gonna hinder you using any exploit found for hboot 2.09 almost certainly.
Basically I would advice not waiting for an exploit if you wanna flash a few roms

I'm gonna need to do more research on this because I'm not understanding why s-off is such a big deal on this device if I want to flash SuperJelly or MeanBean (which has s-on instructions) if all I have to do is root.
Frankly, I want SuperJelly for the GPS and camera improvements.
I gotta get this straight in my head so I don't end up posting a "help, I just screwed up my device" post.

Soff is necessary for the firmware upgrades (you are on the latest so as of now no big deal) it also make flashing a custom kernel a lot easier with no extra steps(source has not been release hence there is no jb custom kernels so no worries there at the moment) if all you want to do is flash a rom for now just htc dev unlock flash a custom recovery and you'll be good to go until an exploit is found
