How to take a backup of Galaxy s2 2GB Phone memory with an unrooted s2

By no means is this possible without root. You need access to system files, and that is what root enables.

On unrooted GS2, you cannot access deep system files directly.

Sorry, I'm not yet in S2 rooting / flashing bussiness, but where are exactly those deep system files?
Because I can see "File system root" folder trough which I can navigate.
All that from Total commander - and my phone is not rooted.

Well, maybe you can see it, but you surely cant browse it!

Which app is this? (in the screenshot)

Well, partially.... some folders I can, some I can't.
But I fear I can't open most important folders... Cache, config, data, efs, preload.
I was surprised when I opened sbin, sys, system, vendor... It gave me false impression I can open all of them.
So I stand corrected... :good:

Since /data partition is mounted as r/w forever, you don't need root to copy app files. Nay, you can copy them even you have r/o...

Without ROOT access, /data is always empty. Try this, and see for yourself.
The only way he can pull content of /data would be via ADB and he will still need root to copy them to the other phone.

I thought that /data is always visible, no matter if the phone is rooted or not... nevermind.

[Q] Can you transfer game savedata? (2.3 to 4.1)

So, I currently have a Galaxy Gio running 2.3.x, but I'll be getting a S3 Mini next week.
I have lots of savedata I don't want to lose, like Hill Climb Racer and more.
Is there any way to transfer the savedata, if the apps are on the SD?

Tell me, then.
as far as i know
to copy your game data is from titanium back up
but the target device must be rooted too
Without root you could try looking to see if the game stores its data on the /sdcard. If its stored under /data then you'll need root on the new device to copy it.
I'm surprised there isn't a way to back up game save points, app data, etc to your Google account.

Ohh.. You need Titanium Backup for data backup and restore.

[Q] No root access after (stock) firmware flash?

Hello, when I bought this phone it had THREE (three. co.uk) firmware (with 3 logo when booting, and their app installed).
The phone was also ALREADY rooted - it had superuser app, smartcare app, and I checked it with "Root checker" app - yes, it had root access.
I, for stupid reasons, decided to flash another stock firmware from sammobile and everything went fine, however, after flashing this other stock firmware it didn't have Superuser app, and "Root checker" app didn't find root access as well. Why is that? Is my phone not rooted anymore?
Edit:
Question 2.
Three firmware took only 20MB of space and this new stock firmware from sammobile (has even less apps, no games etc) but is taking up 42.89MB of memory after clean install! Any idea why it takes that much more?
P.S. Both are 2.3.6 Gingerbreads
You have to re-root your device. After flashing new firmwares the root is going away.

Thanks a lot for an answer! :good: I'm new and read a lot but never seen this fact.
What about Question 2? My pre-installed firmware took only 20MB of program memory when it was new or after hard reset, and this new stock from Sammobile, it doesn't have all the games and other apps, but takes up 42MB
It may has bigger data.

Oh well, that's too bad because Ace has rather small program memory and not all apps can be moved to SD so it will soon start lacking it if I don't limit myself... Anyways, thank you for answers.

You can try to use Link2SD or Cronmod Script
When you bought the phone it was already rooted.. :what:

If you have a backup of your EFS partition, yes. You can use ADB and push the *.img file to your handset. Short of that, there really isn't a way to do it with ODIN or with ADB. If you don't have a backup of your EFS partition, you're pretty well screwed.

Diferent phone the galaxy ace. The efs partition is hidden (stl5 mountpoint), and that's a good thing because you can mess it up by making it vissible and/or attempting to copy it (you have to be EXTRA careful with your adb kung fu so you don't screw it up).
The upside is that it practically can't be accidentally ruined during a rom or other random flash, unlike its galaxy s2 and s3 cousins.

So you mean hidden like windows hidden files? or In other dir?

I mean hidden not like windows. The partition that holds efs files is not accesible unless you mount it to a specific directory. Not even root explorer and show hidden files will help you find it.
Use google, use the galaxy ace forum right her in xda if you need more details. Its the stl5 mountpoint, and not recommended to try and access it.

Backing up & Restoring Samsung Galaxy S2

Hello,
I recently used Wondershare/MobileGo to back up my samsung galaxy s2 I9100 in order to factory reset it however, I realised after that to restore my phone I need to purchase the program. I am left with a .bak file, how do I use it to restore my phone to how it was before the factory reset?
Thanks
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

Don't know any app that would open this kind of file. You could try opening it on your pc and see if you can extract any files from it. Else, that's what happens when you don't research backup apps.
