I do not know anything about J's (FXP) intentions but since CM7.2 is no longer developed he will wait untill Sony releases the official ICS update. He would have easier sources to develop from. Correct me if I am wrong (which might have a pretty high chance.)
Only Jerpelea will be doing anything for the U8500 devices and it's not certain yet. We'll try and get CM kangs for the people who prefer it after AOKP is done.

FXP team will review the devices, they may not even choose to support them.
You have to bear in mind our phones use a new board, FXP team are a small team and also they have many devices to maintain.

Devices will be supported in future, but STE is new for us, so it needs time before we reach WIP state
For now we are "just" playing with them, when it gets serious we will let you know
Good point here: All devices seems to be pretty similar, so we can create 1 big common tree, this will hold the most development.

Question: are there any project brings ICS to Xperia S?
I dont see any project such as CM9 for ICS XPS
Thanks
Hy, for the moment we can root the phone but Doom have see a bug in bootloader and we can't boot a custom kernel with this bug.
If i'm not wrong...

The guys over at motorola milestone has released cm9 for it. The camera is working as well. The milestone uses an encrypted locked bootloader and stock kernel. It still can be done by some talented devs like DoomLord (provided he gets his XS).
Yeah! Custom roms can be made without unlock bootloader! My old MS running quite smooth with ICS CM9 rom! Kabaldan is a great devs!
Arc s and xperia play have a cyanogenmod stable did to see if dev's can port this. But Doomlord don't make rom if i have a good memory.

The XPS is a completely different device people. We'll need some proprietaries to get ICS running properly, and we still can't boot anything without Sony fixing the bootloader bug. It's not the same problem as the Droid 1/2/X/etc, completely different story here. So now we wait for a fixed bootloader - and for Sony's official ICS that's likely to go live early/mid May. Then Doomlord and the FreeXperia people can port something (and I'm ready/willing to help them). But now it's just no use, because we'll hardly get anything at least nearly usable in a month.
TL;DR Porting ICS right now will take more time and effort than waiting for official ICS to drop mid May and starting then.
AFAIK, Bin4ry and someone else are playing around with CM9 development for the handset, as far as I know.

They sure are, but we won't know how it really works until we can test it on devices and that we can't do without the bootloader fix.

Give me a one good reason now why would sony listen to this petition and upgrade 2011 series more(yeah I am happy & grateful that we got 4.0.4,not all the companies were generous to upgrade their whole 2011 lineup like Sony did) when they got 2012 models to develop & upgrade ?

Yeah, I am very greatful too, I am just asking there why the 3 kernel is better than this or if we would have any benefits of upgrading. I am not asking whether they'll listen to us or not. XDA is a very big and powerful community. We (in some cases) represent the advanced users of their products. For me, if we have good reasons and Sony listens to us. I'll appreciate Sony very seriously.

Simple our phones are getting old now,Sony corporation is a business not a non profit organization mate.In xda dev's make stuff at their own free time & most are non profit too.
All comes to dollar bills mate, besides now 2011 series is getting replaced little by little with 2012 series.
ST-Ericsson advertised their NovaThor U8500 (that is running on Xperia 2012 line) with ICS and kernel 3.0.8
i think there is a big chance that the Xperia 2012 phones will get ICS with kernel 3.0.8
Xperia 2011 are old news, they got ICS 4.0.4 so i don`t think Sony will update them further
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRewmDBkR8U
Indeed, it's not a non profit, but since they have the 3.0.8 kernel ready for some devices, it won't be pain for sony to use it for the 2011 line, I mean they are pro developers there with sources, equipment, it'll be a piece of cake for them to port.
Also they officially replied that they won't be upgrading, I saw it on sony's official blog. Nobody here said anything about this kernel though, if it is worth upgrading. Only pesimistic comments that this is impossible to happen.

Sorry to dissapoint you Shadow.... im from the arc thread, and according to FXP who is in charge of the cm development for the 2011 line up it will take aproximately 6 months to port the 3.0 kernel.... and besides Sony promised us 18 months of upgrades, Jelly bean was included in that, when (fake) rumors came that the facebook representative from sony uk said the 2011 line up wouldnt get jelly bean... they said it wasnt true, and now they say the wont update us? seems like they were toying with us, the only reason they actually gave us ics ( a really ****ty one with no much improvement from the gb sony rom) was because they were being presured by the 18 months of upgrades statement.
Yesterday a moderator from Sony team answered me at the official forum. About the Kernel 3.x
"Platform decisions made out of a complex number of parameters, involving things such as performance, price, component availability, timing etc.
When it comes to the kernel, we did actually investigate to release the 2011 products on a new kernel, but we found out it would have delayed the much desired SW releases since it takes time to trim a kernel to a stable state. We have also done a lot of patches to the kernel that we would need to migrate and that would have delayed the SW upgrades even more. It was simply a prioritization decision. For the new 2012 products we use a new kernel.
For more information and further questions regarding these things, please head over to our developer pages at http://developer.sonymobile.com/ ."

I've had my xperia S for over 2 months and haven't see any additions to the developement community. I'm really starting to consider getting rid of this device as the Roms available for it are lacking and the stock ones perform awful. If it wasn't for the CM9 release from FXP I would have parted ways a long time ago.
Hopefully we start seeing more developers jump board on this beautiful piece of hardware, but I'm starting to think the odds are slim to none..

Ics has been released on June 22. Thus, during the last 2 months, we have had:
- the official upgrade to ics
- not less than ics custom kernels with cwm recovery
- three custom roms based on stock ics
- cm 9.0, now stable
- cm 10, not ready but promising
Of course, nothing comparable to the nexus scene. But if you got a phone which has not been thought for the modding, you should not complain with the development community.

and we will get AOKP as soon as FXP Team releases CM device sources.
i think as of now we have enough custom roms, if we have 20-30 custom roms, man my phone wouldnt stop on flashing ,
and once the fxp team releases the cm sources, then we will have additional custom rom , (like semc debranding been waiting for this )
I am still on a stock ICS rom and I can't complain one bit.
The phone does what it says on the box, even my smartwatch works perfectly.
If you "expect" more than you have and are just going to complain because others are not making ROMS to suit your needs, then please... by all means sell it and get soemthing else.

Hi everybody,
At the 3rd of September, Sony releases the binaries for xperia s to support JBQ's Xperia S experiment.
So I was really happy about that, coz I thought that jelly bean is near.
I thought that now, that when they have the binaries and drivers, the only thing to do for Google is to implement these drivers into android source code, because vanilla Android doesn't need so much configuration, etc.
So my question how long you think it takes that we have vanilla on our xperia s?

I hope is not just an experiment because have JB in ours Xperia S will be very performant, in my opinion. Sony is usually close to developers.
It may be also a test: rumors talks about a Sony nexus.. it will be a big step..:victory:
Actually, AOSP development seems very slow, at least from what I've been seeing on the git. Don't expect the sony bins to speed that project up
That's what I'm scared about because when android 5.0 comes soon how long would that take to reach the xperia s (nexus) becomes the update..

One noobish question from me.
When CM10 is out, will it be totally new ROM (with 1000 bugs) or will it continue where CM9 is now?
I mean, if they have fixed something in CM9, like video recording, can we expect it also to work in first CM10 release or is totally unrelated to CM9?

Most features, once they fix the most basic errors they're having (wifi, sdcard, 3g), all the other bugs seem to have worked themselves out for the most part, check out the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092493
