You have to put the update.zip on the root of your internal sd, which means NO folder.

I want to install cynogenmod but when i try to install the zip mod files in recovery mode i got this error
error in sdcard/update.zip (Status 0)
pls help
You need to read the rules and make a search. I know search results may not make sense but the answer is out here.
Most likely it is somthing wrong with the file. Or try custom file in recovery. Depending on version.
what is ur recovery version ?
what is the rom ?
I started with 0.8 i think and roms, alot difrent ones latest cm7pro v20. GingerDX are nice to.
You must notice that there is a difference betwen x10 mini and pro it differs alot

Beside that don't say the mount error?
Also try without rename the rom to update.zip.

I have same problem with a friend's phone it says mount error with cwm using nAa kernel 11. What could it be?

Don't use the update feature, use install zip or custom rom, don't remember exactly right now. The update.zip didn't work for me so i haven't used it after that.

Do this:
1. Re/Boot to recovery of course.
2. Intall zip from sdcard
3. Choose zip from sdcard
4. Choose the name of the zip file for your rom
5. Wait
6. Reboot
7. Wait again because it takes time.
8. See if it works.
This steps will only work work if your phone is rooted (of course it is because you have recovery), unlocked bootloader (if the rom requires it), flashed the correct kernel (again if the rom requires it)

I did state that everything works on my phone perfectly so its clearly not the zips.

It could be a missmatch of cwm/xrecovery versions. An old cwm/xrecovery cannot install a 'new' cwm/xrecovery zip, neither can you really use a zip designed for cwm on xrecovery.
As said before, zips can also be corrupt for various reasons. They are big files and servers can stutter information or cause a few false bits here and there. Redownloading them can test that theory.

I am trying to root my friends s3. Seems to have worked but instead of having the normal options in recovery mode, its missing "install from sdcard"
I haven't done anything different to how I went about rooting my s3.
Anyone?

Has you GS3's friend a SD card plug in at least ? Using CWM or CWM Touch ?
Else reflash CWM via Odin could be a solution.
When we first initially flash via odin, no. Tried to reflash but no luck.

hmm... seems like you messed up with the actual root process somewhere, try ref lashing again, but remember to follow the steps TO THE LETTER, otherwise i can't seem to know of any other fix.

Flash the unroot package that Chainfire provide to cancel all you have done so far in the rooting process then try once more from the beginning.
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
I have been googling and reading for the past 2 hours trying to figure out how to fix this.
I have recovery v5.5.0.4.
I tried to flash the stock rom and it gives me error 7.
I then tried flashing a CM rom with the same error.
It apparently will not mount my external even when I select "mount external" so I have no access to my nandroid.
No ADB and no rom make for a very expensive paperweight
all help is VERY appreciated
Try mounting the internal? Also worst case scenario you can just Odin back to a stock rom too you know.
Good luck!

I can access the internal which is where my two roms are located, but neither work. Do you flash the rom with odin the same way you flash a kernal?
Yeah man you just download the tar file and flash that sucker in Odin, quick fix for anything bad.

I feel like an idiot for being able to fix it so easily like that... Thank you for your help though.
Been trying to unlock my mophos bootloader and I've been very careful to make sure I do it right and not brick my phone. I installed RSD Lite 4.9 but when I plug my phone to the usb and reboot into rsd nothing happens, my device isn't listed either. Am I missing something? (Using Windows 7 64 bit.)

If you are on 2.3.5 you cannot unlock. If you are 2.3.4, download the Root-Unlock-Relock pack (links located in the Photon Compendium). It been available since April and has RSD lite 5.6.
Yes I am still in 2.3.4 and rooted. Would I have to get rid of my root to unlock the boot?

No you don't. Did you install the drivers?
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Yes I did install the drivers. I managed to run the unlock tool but couldn't execute the fastboot command. Downloaded the file but every time I try to extract the files I kept getting a diagnostic error message...

If you pulled the files form my site you need to use 7-zip. Rezipping them in a standard zip format is on the list but it will make the files larger.
Thanks guys for the help, I have my bootloader unlocked after several tries. Only problem now is that most of the pictures on my sd card are now corrupted. Has anyone experience this too? I was under the impression that this process wouldn't affect my data while the card was still mounted so I didn't consider going through the trouble of backing up. In all honesty this wasn't worth loosing my files. But thanks anyway...

It was actually stated to remove SD card while doing this although my SD card wasn't affected

This all happened while I was trying to flash the MIUI rom. Went through the configuration and when it said I was done my phone never recovered from the boot image screen. So I tried flashing a few more times and even picked a different zip file all to no avail. Kept getting an "error while flashing boot image" so I decided to do an advanced restore. When it was all said and done my phone came back in but most of the data on my sd card was corrupted. Hopefully I will be able to recover my pics and stuff...

Hi Marz, does this mean I should stop trying the Photon Torpedo method since the only tidbit of files I need is the photon-torpedo.tar which I am waiting for someone to upload again before I try to work with my 2.3.5 Photon? ;(
Thanks,
