Wi-Fi 5GhZ

Does xperia S connect to 5GhZ networks?
Yes.

.... Err, I think you will find, the Xperia S (in the UK anyway) will not receive 5Ghz WiFi signals.
My router is dual band, as is some of my equipment, but, when tested, the Xperia S, did not 'see' the 5Ghz signal.
Hope this helps.......................

Is it actually legal in the UK? I think it depends on your region.
Just looked there.
Using a WNDR3800, which is legal in the UK and Ireland btw, and it seems I cant see my 5Ghz AP. Pick up the supporting three 2.4s but not it.
Not that an XS needs those speeds though, only real point would be in a place with a huge amount of EMI.

[Q] WiFi frequencys problems Sony Tablet S

I have had my Sony Tablet S for over a year now and am very pleased with it. I decided to take it to school one day and show it too my friends as well as use it in class. But there was a problem, I couldnt connect to the WiFi, whilst my friends iPad could.. After doing some digging around I discovered that the schools wifi is 5ghz whilst the Sony tablet s does not support frequencys that high. Is there a special adapter I can buy to access the 5ghz networks or a trick/hack or will I have to invest in another tablet?

The Sony Tablet S cannot connect to 5.0 GHz WiFi and there is no trick or hack that will make it connect to 5.0 GHz. It would be unusual for the school's WiFi to have only 5.0 GHz and not have 2.4 GHz available because most devices can only connect to 2.4 GHz. The school's WiFi would have different names for its 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz networks. Check the list of networks your STS detects to see if there is another network detected with the same or greater signal strength than the 5.0 GHz network and that network will likely be the school's 2.4 GHz network.

Xperia Z Ultra ( Wifi / Phone - Only ) 3G/4G less version coming...

Sony might soon release a second version of the Xperia Z Ultra.
Interestingly, the refreshed Xperia Z Ultra won't feature an updated processor or any such improvement. In fact, it'll actually loose a much-loved feature: 3G and 4G LTE mobile data connectivity.
Recently-leaked benchmarks indicated that Sony is working on a Wi-Fi-only version of the 6.44-inch phablet, according AnTuTu. It'll still have cellular connectivity; it just won't boast the 4G LTE radio found in the original Xperia Z Ultra.
If true, Sony is likely catering to users who still want call-and-text functionality but prefer to browse the Internet when only connected to a Wi-Fi router. These type of users typically try to save money - and they probably want a phablet that's more tablet than smartphone.
There isn't anything else missing in this rumoured version of the Xperia Z Ultra. As for when you can expect to see it, G4games reported that a similar Sony device passed through the US Federal Communications Commission in November. That means it could launch very soon.

Looks like a attempt at introducing a (possible) cheaper "tablet" version of the ZU. Personally, i do not see the appeal, as half the fun, is having a portable "tablet" with phone / 3G / 4G capability, that one can carry on you with ease. One without 3G/4G may be cheaper on the monthly data connection, but a smartphone without 3G/4G is kind of a step backwards.
If you only use it where there is (free) wifi, one can most likely just use a normal tablet ( home, work ... ). Maybe its just me, that does not see the potential in this?

I cant, if you are worried about data costs just disable the apn?
I don't see the point if Sony will release those model ?????
yeah I read about this. America FCC had denied the use of mobile connectivity for the Ultra. I have no idea why... possibly Apple has filed a lawsuit against Sony for making a device thats better looking than an iPhone??? yeah... thats my bet

Best reception phone on T-Mobiles Network?

I'm stuck in this Tornado shelter living here for a few months and I'm trying to get internet going (the provider here is crap) If i place my Xperia Z3 by the window I get usable service so I got the idea, buy a T-mobile phone on the cheap and add a line to my plan and set the phone up as a permanent hotspot. So i bought a Nexus 4 and the signal is crap like barely usable my Xperia gets very decent reception sitting in the same spot. I figure its because my Xperia can connect to more LTE Bands. So I'm going to change the Nexus over to a different phone but I wanted some opinions: whats the best phone reception wise on TMobile? opinions, facts, specs. throw them at me! preferably a phone that supports a AOSP rom and root and such! Thank you
