That backup will not do..
Next time while switching ROMs, don't forget to take backups of your apps through titanium backup! It's the most useful app!

extracting apps from nandroid backups is not advisable..when you switch roms.. so make app+data backups before switching roms.. and titanium backup is the best,as said above..

1)do cwm backup of current 4.0.4
2)in recovery use advance restore option to restore data.
3)make backup of apps with titanium backup
4)restore 404 backup(from step 1) and restore backup of apps from titanium backup(from step 3)

tried that (advanced restore once) but it seemed to FC the apps

another question like all the same :/
flash the 562 firmware with flashtool and then root (with doomlords rootkit for ICS 4.0.3 Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038) and then over the Air
you have then rooted 4.0.4

Did you wiped cache and dalvik-cache after restoring data partition.
And which apps FC-ed? The one from data or system?

I will never understand why you advise people to do OTA update, when they can do clean flash, have clean phone, minimal chance of problems, and still able to root. I understand about .62, but now we don't have to mess with OTA's.

Erm, you can root it without unlocking BL.
I'm not blaming anyone, just asking. Its up to personal opinion, I just don't like OTA's
And sorry for not answering, I don't know where you asked me that.

[Q] CWM restore problem...

Hey
I was on GingerReal1.4, and wanted to try out overclocking on CM7. Made a backup on CWM and then installed CM7, tried, happy and decided to go back.
Now when I try to restore the backup, most of my apps arent being detected and the launcher is back to touchwiz and I can't seem to find superuser also. I assumed this maybe because sd-ext is not being detected. So I tried installing a2sd-gui from my titanium backup, that seems to work and isn't showing me any problem. I also tried reinstalling the kernel, didn't work.
And Ive tried restoring about 5 times till now, same result.
Am I doing something wrong?? Any help would be rly rly awesome...
Thanks

Even apps that were preinstalled on the ROM like ext4manager and Gmail are missing!!!
Thanks a lot guys
Then logically the problem is in that backup.
yea, that's what I'm thinking, though I did not get any errors while doing the backup.
I read about someone else having a similar issue a long tym back in the galaxy s forum, and i dont see any suggestions or solutions there.
Anyway, given up for now, will take care of it some other tym...
Backing up all i got and switching to CM now.
Do let me know if something pop's up and you remember this issue of mine.
Thanks again
No.. The backup is not the problem. I have read somewhere that the problem lies with the bootloader.
When you upgrade to CM 7, it uses the 2.3.7 bootloader. And now you are trying to restore a backup associated with a 2.3.4 bootloader. The restore does not contain the bootloader. Thus you may experience a bootloop.
The only get around is to flash via odin.
Hit thanks if i helped.

What do you mean when you say you cant root anymore because you have CWM? Rooting and CWM are on separate tracks in this case, CWM does not stop you from rooting your phone. Are you saying you dont want to root?
Also, rooting is very simple, just change your kernel to cf-root(to be flashed via CWM, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 ) and you get added advantages like ext4, BLN, a2sd support etc.
PS: Read all you can before doing anything

[Q] Update without loosing data?

Maybe there is already an answer to this, have been searching for a while.
And my phone has been off for 4-5 months but i wanna try again.
Its softbrick, boot loops but i have cwm 5.0.2.3 that i installed after that happend.
The thing is that i dont wanna lose my data so im wondering if its possible to update the firmware without loosing data?
and where can i get the 4.0 ics or atleast earlier versionens as a file to download then put in the memorycard ?
regards
edit: is there a way to backup everything atleast with cwm? i know there is backup and restore but i think that didnt backuped everything last time a tried.
Check out any of the custom rom threads, or if you want stock, check out intratech's thread, flash it and your bootloop will be gone. Good luck.
Edit: No, there's only the backup/restore option.

Verizon R800x 2.3.4 Nandroid

I thought perhaps devs or others might find a Nandroid of a successful installation of the 2.3.4 update for the Verizon R800x useful.
Use at your own risk. I bear no responsibility if you end up with a shiny black brick.
This is the Nandroid I made after my FOTA completed today and I did a factory reset.
What I did:
Before the Update:
Installed the R800x 2.3.3 ftf file.
Rooted with the zergrush method.
Backed up with OTA Rootkeeper.
What I did after the Update:
Shut down and booted into Fastboot mode.
Booted into Recovery via Recovery.img
Ran Factory Reset - Wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache.
Made the Nandroid.
Afterwards, I rebooted and completed setup. I noticed that SuperUser was still in the Apps drawer. Installed Root Explorer and it worked ok. Installed Root Checker and it showed I have full root. I did not have do anything with OTA Rootkeeper.
And the Link: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?xikhi4dldb0d8dw
EDIT: This is posted for test purposes only. Please be aware that if you restore it over the 2.3.3 kernel, somethings will not work properly or at all. Example WiFi and Camera.

Used doomkernel wifi modules v01 and I have wifi now with DoomKernel on 2.3.4 and root
Just flashed stock 2.3.3 kernel and all seems good. Couldnt get wifi to work with DoomKernel, for now. So am on stock kernel.

Am i supposed to extract the file from the zip and place it in the CWM backup file and restore it as a nandriod file or do i just flash the zip like i would a complete rom?? I tried it as a nandroid backup and got MD5 mismatch. i and on 2.3.3 stock with root and a locked bootloader.
EDIT......
OK i got it. I believe that i got a bad file or when i tried to extract it through astro, something went wrong. I ended up redownloading it through my computer and using winzip and got a file with a totally different name.

Trying to decide whether I need to go one by one through 40 damn games and ti backup them
Would I still need an unlocked bootloader to get a new kernel? I'm assuming yes.

I really dont see a point in doing so if you plan to upgrade to ICS.
If you're experiencing problems, you should do it all once again, flash .42 or .58, root it, upgrade it to ICS, install CWM and back it up (nandroid backup), with all the bloatware and everything... just in case... afterwards, start modding, delete bloatware and do whatever you want. In case you screw something up, you can always return to stock rooted ICS (that you backed up) and try again
When i installed ICS i flashed .42 and then i upgraded to ICS... so not even .58 and certainly not .62; it seemed a bit cleaner not to upgrade to higher GB version before upgrading to ICS, since if i wanted to keep root on ICS, i wouldnt be able to erase user data.
Reinstall ROM.

Thats the theory - if its a Nandroid backup :good:
Rom Toolbox Pro makes backups of your apps and if you are referring to that you will end up with a phone you will have to setup again.
When I unlocked my bootloader I just started from fresh...but I tend to do that rather than keep rehashing old problems
Yea I too love that, I only backup my contacts, and media is always synced with my laptop, asking for knowledge
And yea I backed up using cwm recovery (is it called nandroid?? )
Use the thank button, it's there for a reason

Go backup pro is a good alternative for backing up apps, settings, and even the home launcher settings, but since wednesday they made it a paid app. If you exceed to 200mb they will not allow you to restore your backup if you don't have the premium version.
