Question about recovery - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I have a stock kernel, so it itself does not have recovery, I rooted and got recovery by installing cwm.. Now if I flash a custom kernel, it would bring recovery with it, and not the one I had installed.. Than can I restore the backup I have done with the older cwm ??

Yes.

Flashing a kernel won't, unlocking bootloader will. Back up /sdcard/clockworkmod before unlock.

Okay so I copied the backups from my cwm folder to my pc, now if I unlock the bootloader, flash a kernel and then place them back there, and recover, would I get the same phone as I have now?? (i mean all the apps and stuff)
I have Romtoolbox pro installed

Thats the theory - if its a Nandroid backup :good:
Rom Toolbox Pro makes backups of your apps and if you are referring to that you will end up with a phone you will have to setup again.
When I unlocked my bootloader I just started from fresh...but I tend to do that rather than keep rehashing old problems

Yea I too love that, I only backup my contacts, and media is always synced with my laptop, asking for knowledge
And yea I backed up using cwm recovery (is it called nandroid?? )
Use the thank button, it's there for a reason

Go backup pro is a good alternative for backing up apps, settings, and even the home launcher settings, but since wednesday they made it a paid app. If you exceed to 200mb they will not allow you to restore your backup if you don't have the premium version.

[Q] Switching Recoveries (noob question)

Hi, I'm currently using the latest ClockworkMod as my recovery. I've never had any problem with it (had it on my og evo as well), but I'm hearing a lot of great things about twrp recovery, so I'd like to make the switch. I'm all clear on most of the process, but is it correct that I'll need to make new nandroid backups? If so, should I delete my cwm nands? How would I go about doing that? And am I correct that I'd need to revert to my stock (first) nandroid, flash the new recovery from there, make a new twrp nandroid, and then go back to cm7? Just want to be sure, as I know that nandroids are a lifeline and I don't want to screw anything up. Thanks in advance!

no, you can just make a nand with the new recovery of your current setup, no need to revert

Sounds good. What to do though if I need to ever go back to stock rom? (Unlikely anyhow). Will I be able to find a stock rooted rom in the dev forums?

[Q] Full Backup

Hi guys!
Sorry if this already has posted but i couldnt find.
We just love to flash, update roms but sometimes we forget the essential and wanna go back.
So my question is: is there a way to backup and save from a original stock Atrix, things like pds, kernel, webtop, do a whole full backup of everything?
You mean like a Nandroid backup?...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
if you do a nandroid backup from cwm or rom manager it will back up everything on your current rom.
Thanks a lot for your attentio guys!
Doing these backup, even system unique files like pds, kernel, webtop, boot?
yes, its kinda like a ghost backup for a pc. it takes an image more or less.

It makes an image of your current phone setup that you can come back to like if you get stuck, or if you want to come back from another ROM...

Thanks a lot guys! But to use CWM or Rom manager i will have to unlock my boot, so i was wondering if there is a way to do this keeping Atrix untouchable and with this backup?

I think nandroid backup requires root and if you want to flash another rom you'll have to unlock the phone.

[Q] CWM restore problem...

Hey
I was on GingerReal1.4, and wanted to try out overclocking on CM7. Made a backup on CWM and then installed CM7, tried, happy and decided to go back.
Now when I try to restore the backup, most of my apps arent being detected and the launcher is back to touchwiz and I can't seem to find superuser also. I assumed this maybe because sd-ext is not being detected. So I tried installing a2sd-gui from my titanium backup, that seems to work and isn't showing me any problem. I also tried reinstalling the kernel, didn't work.
And Ive tried restoring about 5 times till now, same result.
Am I doing something wrong?? Any help would be rly rly awesome...
Thanks

Did you format all partitions in CWM before restoring ?

Tried that, didn't work.
Even apps that were preinstalled on the ROM like ext4manager and Gmail are missing!!!
Thanks a lot guys
Then logically the problem is in that backup.
yea, that's what I'm thinking, though I did not get any errors while doing the backup.
I read about someone else having a similar issue a long tym back in the galaxy s forum, and i dont see any suggestions or solutions there.
Anyway, given up for now, will take care of it some other tym...
Backing up all i got and switching to CM now.
Do let me know if something pop's up and you remember this issue of mine.
Thanks again
No.. The backup is not the problem. I have read somewhere that the problem lies with the bootloader.
When you upgrade to CM 7, it uses the 2.3.7 bootloader. And now you are trying to restore a backup associated with a 2.3.4 bootloader. The restore does not contain the bootloader. Thus you may experience a bootloop.
The only get around is to flash via odin.
Hit thanks if i helped.

What do you mean when you say you cant root anymore because you have CWM? Rooting and CWM are on separate tracks in this case, CWM does not stop you from rooting your phone. Are you saying you dont want to root?
Also, rooting is very simple, just change your kernel to cf-root(to be flashed via CWM, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 ) and you get added advantages like ext4, BLN, a2sd support etc.
PS: Read all you can before doing anything

Nandroid with Unlocked from Locked

I am running Jokers CM10 right now, if I restore one of my backups when I was rooted and locked and then restore a backup of my CM10 with bootstrap will I be unlocked again ? I hope that makes sense
Nope.
Ok, thanks for the reply :good:
But I could send you zip, that you can flash before cm10 restore and you will be unlocked after reboot. Maybe pulling battery after flashing will be needed.
After restoring stock (you would have to restore stock boot.img and recovery too), you could flash lock zip I can provide, to be locked.
But I am not sure, if you could restore cm10 with bootstrap.
Maybe that unlocking zip would have to flash cwm recovery too. And restore cm10 from that.

And nimzp, thanks for the 'thanks'. You just put me at my first 100 :good:
I will post the link here, when I get home. It was tested by one person.

http://d-h.st/aVy - just flash with bootstrap recovery and reboot (maybe power off or battery pull will be needed

One question. If i try to restore my old backup when phone was unlocked i get error while restoring boot image. Is it normal or is there any way to restore a backup (taken using custom recovery) when phone was locked. Now phone is unlocked and using CWM recovery.

[Q] Need help restoring a backup in TWRP

I made a backup of my HTC EVO LTE Stock ROM in TWRP, I flashed CMX, now I want to go back to Stock, so I went to TWRP>Install, I can see my backup folder under /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/name of backup.. but I when I select the folder it does not give me the option to Install it. It just opens as an empty folder. I did notice the folder is not in a .zip format. Is this the reason why? Did I miss something during the back up process? And if so, how can I fix it? Is it as easy as just converting the regular folder into a .zip folder then try to install it this way?.. Please tell me not everything is lost, lol.. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There should be a restore option on the main screen in twrp recovery. If you hit that it will allow you to choose what file you want to restore

Need to Restore But Getting Black Screen
Okay so my situation is similiar to the OP.
I was running CM10 then a custom sense Rom.
I made an original backup, but when I restore it I get a black screen at boot.
Typically when I flash a Rom I have to fastboot flash the boot.img which is no biggie, but there's no boot.img that I can find in the twrp backup.
Might be just as easy to flash a stock Rom, but not sure exactly where to find one. Everything I've found is rooted or custom in some way.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

The ROM I'm trying to restore is the original state of my phone. Would this be a stock ROM with a versioning date of October 28th(the day I got my phone and made the backup), current stock ROMs, or launch stock ROMs. Basically will any boot.img work from a stock ROM?
I do see the boot sector being written during the restore process. There is a boot.something.win file in the backup folder for the backup. Can this be fastbooted? I'm a bit timid to try that, but thinking it may be worth a shot...

Thanks for the quick reply, QuickWizard is very fitting. I actually got it after I finished going my own route though.
I grew a pair and went with my got and I went ahead and flashed the boot.emmc.win from the twrp backup in flashboot. It successfully got me booted and logged into the phone. That said the stock rom is so crappy...
But, I was having issues on CM10 with MHL, on a "stock rom with goodies" I was having radio issues with the latest firmawares, so now it's back to my rooted stock backup and I'm doing the HTC System OTA update... Should be interesting what happens next...
Again thank you all with the quick replies!
