don't know how this works, but will it work with our touchpads cm9/10 etc?

edit: oh i see.. "A ROM which uses our update center has the app installed by default"
so i guess it is up to developers to implement it.
something tells me we wont ever see this for our devices =/
Why not use Goo Manager to handle your updates/downloads?
I know it's not an end-all OTA concept like that one is showing, but it make a decent alternative for people who want to work with CM9 nightlies - and possibly CM10 or however they end up classifying Android 4.1 on TouchPad.

oh i just think the concept is pretty cool for ota updater.

Hear me out on this one before you shoot me down.
Alpha2.1 has become pretty much a daily for me, with the only real nuisance being the wifi issues. My understanding from other posts is that Alpha3 will be released before moving on to ICS for CM9. If wifi is fixed in Alpha3, it would become a definite daily for me. That said, when CM9 eventually comes out I would like to check it out and provide feedback, but would prefer not to dump a familiar and possible more stable CM7.1 until CM9 becomes as stable.
My question is this. Would it be worth the trouble to setup moboot to triple boot WebOS, CM7.1 and CM9? I doubt the CM team would want to bother with it, but I haven't dealt with moboot until this project. Would it be pretty much the same as editing Grub on a PC to triple boot?
Thank you for your considered opinion.
This is what they posted with the release of CM9 for TouchPad....
CAN I MAKE A TRI-BOOT SYSTEM? (WebOS, CM7, and CM9)
Yes, but don’t bother. There may be instructions forthcoming on this, but it’s a bit advanced - just pick one.

Guess they are not ready to share that... I think I'm gonna have to ask them about it over at RootzWiki...
I myself am looking for a triple boot solution but for a different reason...
Since Android does not allow for separate profiles on one device to allow multiple users to keep separate system settings thru out it like PC's on Windows user accounts... And it doesn't seem like they are making a iUser version for Android...
I only see a solution of 2 separate installs of CM7 or CM9 (whichever two)... And then each person can choose their installation at boot-up.... Eventually they will need to add password protection to them... But that is longs way ahead...
If u look at the vidz from ReverendKJR on YouTube.... U can see that all the CynagenMod variants seem to end up being listed as the same thing regarding of flavor... But the EverVolv ICS install is listed as a different installation... This is just the listing part.... It doesn't mean they work correctly and don't clash with each other.... But we do know that maybe 3 Roms just fit on the TP...
Hopefully they will release how to do this correctly soon....

Triboot instructions may still be coming from what I've read. I hope they do, but if CM9 is stable I may not care as much. As for password protection, to what exactly are you referring? Android already has pins, patternlocks etc.
Well I decided to go ahead with CM9 Alpha0 last night (backed up my CM7 install first). So far super stable, don't really need what's broken (camera, microphone etc). One big reason was that Logmein Ignition hasn't worked since its 14 November update (older version works, but I don't trust the apk download source). Now it works, plus I can now load honeycomb apps! If this keeps up I'll probably never bother with triboot.

Cool... Did u do the multiple performance tweaks???... How stable is u'r Wifi???
Right... Screen Password is there.... And would work at startup... But then u would need to turn it off and to turn it back on... I am looking at a two user system for my TP.... With both parties having separate Android installs... I would prefer a moboot or another booter way to make sure the 2nd user only has access to their install of Android & wouldn't be able to mess up WebOs or my install of Android... Seems iUser would work great.. but no Android version seems to be available... Let me know if u find the Tri-Boot info...

Yes, did the two fixes I saw listed. Also ran Alpha 0.5 tonight. Wifi if anything is better than CM7 Alpha3.5. Installed 3 days ago, only had to cycle wifi off/on once. Have joined 5 different SSIDs in that time, two of those on a 7 access point network on different channels (1, 6 and 11). One was open while rest were WPA2 secured.
As for the multi-user setup, if Android isn't an absolute requirement, perhaps an Ubuntu Linux install would do? I don't know how far along the project is, but if it works you should be able to create as many non-root users as you like. Just an idea.
EDIT: Looking in the "Other Touchpad Development" Forum, the Linux projects appear much more "alpha" than CM9 is now. However Arch Linux looks promising.

Hello folks
I want to create live wallpapers for sale on the android market. I found a custom creator script and a lwp creator software that does this but I don't think it signs them. Now I am not sure if those could be sold on the market or not. I am still very new to android.
At the moment I am trying to start small, something simple like a looped animation sequence and make that a live wallpaper...just plain, with no settings. So what would be a good way to approach this mission ?
You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739512. You could even try to make them on your phone with this: http://android.ownskin.com/livewallpaper.
Can I sell the apk that I get from custom creator or is there something I need to do before I upload it.

Make sure it's signed.
That's all ? Man thats simple. Here I was readying myself thinking I'm gonna need to brush up my old coding skills. Very nice. Thanks guy.
I would like to pack 2 live wallpapers in one apk. Is this possible ?
No, it's not unless you make an app which will allow selection of whichever one the user wants.
That sucks. I figured I'd provide 2 wallpapers as a pack for $0.99 because they are simple with no settings. There is no other way ?
I suppose I'll start with single ones and then eventually make an app.
Ok so I did some experiments, first apk was 80mb, second was 40mb and the newest one is like 400kb only. But it lags a lot. How do I optimize ?

Have you tried zipaligning them? See here: http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/zipalign.html.
I am just beginning installing eclipse and the steps that follow. I am still not sure how to open the apk to view what the code is. I was hoping I could see this code and then implement it in eclipse using a fresh project. Main thing I want to find out is how the image sequence loading is implemented. I guess I will post back here in a few days.
Should I code this in ICS or get the sdk files for 2.1 and do it on that ?

It depends on what you want. If you only want ICS (and later android versions to come) devices to support your wallpapers, then you can go ahead and code it in ICS. If you want a wider range of support (for now), then your 2nd option is best.
Well ideal case would be its backwards compatible. I've been reading and says ics has new api's...but I'm hoping the wallpaper and related services are backwards compatible. Its okay if its not, I get to learn at least.

It sure does, but most of them are not backward compatible. Notice only a few (approximately 3) apps built for ICS worked on Gingerbread so the chance is very small that they will support backward compatibility. They may be the same services, etc., but many will still require the ICS+ framework.
Interesting...so that means its safer to start from 2.1 for more than just backwards compatibility reasons. I just tried to grab api7 in sdk manager and it gave me error for file not found. Should I do 2.3.3 ?
Fixed it, 2.1 ready to go. Thanks.

This thread has served its purpose. Request mod to lock it.
I am not entirely sure if this is an original request in here, or if it even belongs in here, so please dont kill me if I am wrong, just advise me whar to do next...
But, I am currently running DaGr8's ICS Aplha 2 rom, and noticed that the allshare app is missing, as well as a few others... Now I am also not entirely sure that these apps will work in this scenario, but if they will, or if they can be made to work, that would be awesome... i have also noticed that the photo editor appears to be missing, both of these apps are ones that I use pretty heavily, and would feel a bit more comeplete if I had them, but if they wont work on ICS, then they won't and I will just have to wait til the official OTA hits.
***Edit: if someone IS able to fullfill this request, would you be able to make a zip flashable in CWM for all apps, and then I can just peacemeal them myself through TiBu?

I'll second that request! if only for the photo editor that came stock with the i717.
I put a request in the NOOB forum and haven't heard anything yet...
I'm on stock deodexed 4.1.2.
I do have the Samsung apps on my phone, I don't know how to extract them for you, but the Photo Editor in particular is a crippled version without the features of the one that came with the phone on Android 2.3.6

Here is the Samsung PhotoEditor that works with I717 4.1.2. Just install like a normal app.

After doing a bit of searching I think we're looking for a file called "com.sec.android.mimage.photoretouching-1.apk" with a size of 10-12MB but I haven't confirmed this yet or tested it, downloading a version I found right now...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/auvwb5sjr3ee82b/com.sec.android.mimage.photoretouching-1.apk
The one I posted is 12mb, integrates with photo gallery and has Spen edit support. I think the photo retouching apk is what it was called on GB & ICS.

Thanks for the quick help, unfortunately both of the links are for similar versions of the same apk, and are not the one I was looking for.
I don't even know for sure if the editing I was doing was on the stock image editor, but the app allowed the use of a magic wand to select areas of a photo, transform the area to resize an object and fill any voids left by shrinking, etc...
I can't find anything on the market or Samsung market so I thought maybe it was left off of Samsungs updated image editor?

I was like you guys and tried searching for the app. I found a few, installed them but they only partially worked. Even on the stock 4.1.2 they weren't fully functional.
probably missing some libs
Does anyone know, or even have a guess of how many apps are compatible with the screen resolution on the nexus 10
It's likely that right now there are no Apps in the market which support this resolution.. Closer to it's release date or on the release date, I'm sure you will see that there are updates for your Apps bringing "official" support for 4.2 and sneaking in new resolution support for the Nexus 10.
I say "official" support because it is likely all Apps that support Jellybean will support 4.2, as it isn't a major update and is still called Jellybean.

The DPI system and the concept of "density independence" were designed with this sort of contingency in mind. Look here
Here are some "official" Google recommendations:
https://sites.google.com/site/androidpresssite/home/recommended-apps
Also many games are being optimized for the screen resolution:
http://www.droidgamers.com/index.ph...s-will-be-available-for-the-new-nexus-line-up
http://blog.gameloft.com/index.php/2012/10/30/google-nexus-games/
Though it has to be said that if the devs make proper use of the tools and API, app quality should never have been a problem.

What makes this "official"?
Cleaned the thread a bit. Useless rantings about some apps are of no use. But there are some other posts here borderline. I'll have an eye on this thread and maybe clean again.
Hi mates..
Does anyone know when android 4.2 will be released for our gs3? Samsung says it wont be updated till q1 of next year.. is there any possibility to make a alpha/beta rom earlier than samsung releases source code?
Thanks and sorry for stupid quest..

I dont think they will release 4.2..frankly speaking. Very few feature can be implemented I think. Or at least, they can be implemented but samsung will hate to implement them.
short 4.2 feature list:
1) Settings toggles in notification panel -- Samsung already has that. Also, according to me it is a better implementation. Google's 2 finger swype looks unnecessary. With samsung, its right there
2) Camera app. -- hands down the most futuristic looking camera app from google. Functional, Fast, and featurewise not better than Samsungs. For such a lengthy camera feature list, that Samsung really does have, The pictogramm view that we have now...is not necessarily bad. I would like to see google camra officially customised from Samsung. But I do not think it is in Samsungs "interesting-feature" list.
3) Multitasking. -- nothing to say there
4) In built Editing options in gallery. Samsung has a edit app that sort of interacts with the gallery app.
5) Sphere: nothing to say there
That was it..or?
I think they will bring these updates with the next big android update to S3...so probably Android 5 (Kandy Kane?). But they will not be in a hurry with 4.2
