Particular sections on the screen unresponsive - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Hi, its the first time I'm writing in here, please see there may be mistakes ( as such the writing parameters that are being followed in here. ), please consider
I own this real messy GT-I5500, which been a pain since the time I had it for the first time.
We'll for it's newest miracle, particular sections of the touchscreen are not working. I am a real rookie but guess I'll try to explain
at 0 degree , the whole of 3rd row dosent respond, and particular section dont respond accordingly when the screen is turned at 90,180,270 respectively. It really makes typing impossible.
Just for the records I have rebooted,reset-ed,downgraded to froyo and tried lots of **** all over the net ( which even includes hovering a magnet to unlock screen as my lock screen ring earlier was lying in the no response region ).
I understand my phone would require an appointment at the service station, can someone elaborate the problem to me basically because
1. I do not trust them , they really sometimes employ classy noobs.
2, If I require to change the touchscreen, acceptable, but is it sure that it is a hardware problem.
3. has anyone got a screen changed, I'd love to know how deep will it burn my pocket
I reside in India. Help will be co-ordinally appreciated.
Thank You

If you flashed back to froyo or any other stock ROM and the problem still persisted then it seems to be a hardware problem.
Well I don't have experience replacing screen, just google coz there might be some info available.
Or just give it to samsung, They'll repair it but will take a lot of time because they'll do all sorts of tests before coming to the conclusion that the screen is faulty.

HotFix 08787 = ???

Hi All,
My HD2 just came back from repair.
I sent it in a hope that they will change my buggy screen (like lot of people, the touch function is buggy. Sometimes doesn't react, sometimes it feels a pressure while i don't press it, sometimes it works well... ).
Anyway, of course they didn't change any screen...and i just missed my HD2 for 2 weeks.
They did a Hard reset and installed all the HotFIx. Which i bet won't fix any issue that i have with the screen.
However, i do notice they installed a hotfix i never heard about yet:
LEO08787.exe
Does anyone have ever heard about it and what it does ???
send it back again and demand a replacement screen since it is a known fault with the original screens. They are just trying to get out of paying for the new screen.
regarding the hotfix nope, havent heard of it, but I dont track the hotfix versions so it may be a known one
ok lets install this and see how it goes..
hope its not a bogus file with some virus inside ...
HTC repair center SUCKS big time.
@kaemon: i also had that problems (sometimes the screen just wouldn't react to my touch) and i brought it to my reseller so they sent it to repair center and it come back untouched, they've only done the screen calibration which i have done dozen times. And it took them 16 days to do that. i'm definitely buying an iphone next time.
Unreleased hotfix
Apparently this is an (as yet) unreleased HotFix for the HD2, that is designed to correct some issues with the touchscreen. POCKETNOW.COM have tested this hotfix and found that it "drastically improved" the typing on the touchscreen, and also cured the HD2s alleged inability to draw a straight line when in Notes.
(Please note, I have not tested this yet, as I havn't suffered any such problems on my HD2, but I'm sure a quick check on their website will find you the page in question, which contains a link to the hotfix).
Pocketnow seem to think it's pretty decent. I'll give it a go.
Just installed it.. And I got to say i reckon typing maybe more accurate! not completely sure as time will tell. Installed on a Euro version about 5 months old, certainly the lines in Note are not like an ECG any more so
direct link for those who want it
http://www.mediafire.com/?kjmeyleaewz
IMO this is by far the best HotFix I ever installed. Typing works massively improved for me (also on the PIN-unlock-screen). I'm currently on German stock ROM.
So what do you reckon? Worth installing? Can it be uninstalled?
** Edit **
Just seen the two replies above - sounds good! I'm going to give it a try and will report back.
Tried it but didnt like it, it made my screen unresponsive and the ui jerky.
Installed after reading the Pocketnow tweet but uninstalled about 5 minutes later.
Screen became very unrespsonsive and massive slow down in scrolling.
Seems to be a 50/50 split.
Give it a try though
ROM: 1.66 WWE

definately a little less responsive to some touches, i'm just tweaking slightly with HD2tweak and see if that makes a difference....
UpDate:
I wonder if this hotfix is just changing a reg key, the same as BsB tweaks to decrease the screen sensitivity or if it is actually a driver?
Ive just changed the screen sensitivity in HD2tweak to very high and it seems to have eliminated the unresponsive touches but remains much better with typing accuracy? I would love to know what this .exe actually does within the system..maybe someone more clever than me can take it apart and see whats inside.
oh yeah running a tmous 2.13 Rom on a euro Leo if thats any help
Well I tried it....
EVen though I didn't suffer from any problems with the touchscreen on my HD2, I thought I'd give it a go, and set myself a couple of tests.
1) I used "notes.exe" and tried to draw 5 straight lines, and got five slightly curved and wavy lines.
2) I typed a message "this will test how accurate my keypad is or how bad my typing is", and had to correct three mistypes/mistakes.
I then installed the hotfix, and tried both tests again....
1) Five pretty straight lines, certainly better than before
2) typed the same message, and only one correction.
So, based on the 5 mins since I installed, it seems that this fix DOES make an improvement. I'll keep monitoring it and report back to let you know.

i just tried the same thing...
after the latest update from TMOUS, my typing has been terrible. swype is unstable too.
gonna flash the latest energy rom. that should help.
if we're going to be posting feedback, can i suggest that those who try it also report the manufacturing dates of their devices (if known to them)? at the very least, do report what screen type is on the device. what i am referring to is the fact that the hd2 ships with TWO kinds of screens. earlier models shipped with a screen with fewer "dots" while the newly manufactured devices ship with a screen with noticeably more "dots" (these additional brighter dots are visible on the intersections of the criss-cross "lines").
i personally have the newer model and i have no problems whatsoever. notes always draws straight lines and typing is accurate out of the box.
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
Using NRGZ28 EnergyROM.
it work very well for me
sure it's less responsive :/

Same here, might give it a little bedding in period but I'm already thinking about uninstalling it
I just installed this and it has improved the accuracy of typing on the keyboard especially at speed. I can touch type (badly) so with any qwerty keyboard i can do 100 ish words a minute. Before every other word had to be corrected but my test sentence "this is a test to see if the keyboard accuracy has been improved at speed" needed not one. Line drawing is still too accurate (that was the problem before. it is impossible for a human to draw a perfect straight line free hand) but it is better. I've also noticed in my typing test that the contact i used to test the htc messaging app load speed (contact has currently 2481 messages associated with it) was massively improved. I have no idea if this is related but this patch appears to have done something to it. I'll keep an eye on that just to see if the effect is because my phone just had it's first reboot in 8 days or not.
Done some quick further testing on the Messaging app load speed and it appears that either the way the message database is loaded has been changed (instead of loading them one by one it seems to loading them all in one big chunk) or the graphics driver has been updated (reading this i'm not sure if it's not the undefined option 3) but something is definitely different there because whether it's 2500 messages or 10 the load time is now the same and faster than before.
Something weird is defintely up with this hotfix and i bet it includes more than just a touch screen update too.

[Q] Broken Titan

Wondering if the setting for Automatic screen brightness is bad for you all? What im talking about is that my screen brightness is not changing accordingly to light/dark environment, it's basically always on medium. Can my phone be broken or is this normal?
Also experience screen drop outs where it's stop responding to touch input, it sits like that for short period of time and will start responding again. It seems not like a frequent problem but happens now and again since I bought it last week.
Last but not least, im experiencing some forms....in lack of words, "processor" straining if I have all 20 Xbox games installed and a lot of apps and music. Seems that the less memory the more chopy everything become. Even with a lot removed from storage and having, like 7GB free its a bit choppy, but the problem will increase expanding to less increased memory. Just open Games and looking at the avatar you can see lagg in his movments. I feely like with a clean phone I never saw that.
Now worth noting is I am VERY picky when it comes to lagg/choppiness/Screen flickerings. This phone is brand new and I come from a Omnia 7. While surfing the Webb is a incredible experience, its so smooth, I feel that start menu scrolling, avatar movements etc is choppy and almost, as bad? as a first gen device. Game performance seems to be better on the Titan compared to my old Omnia 7. But on a lot of areas it seems my Omnia 7 is on par with the Titan. This is a new gen device, shouldn't I experience a lot of difference.
Now, anybody got some thoughts about this? Any feedback/help is appreciated.
Best regards
Me
The amount of used/free storage has very little to do with the performance of the phone. More than likely, its simply the phone needing to download and load data that is causing some of the stuttering you are seeing, which is the most common culprit of performance hiccups. The storage memory is not the same thing as the memory used to run the phone/apps/games. A common misconception.
Slow data connections/downloads in combination with the inability for the phone to load all your information instantly is probably the lag you are seeing (or even, the phone IS trying to load all your data at once). It is more apparent in 3rd party apps, but its the same as any device trying to load data.
If it really is to the point where its unbearable, it may very well be that your device is defective. I don't have any major issues with freezing/stuttering/lag on any of my Windows Phone devices. Its a bit more noticeable on my 1st gen devices, but its largely eliminated on my 2nd gen devices. A little bit of stuttering here and there is completely normal for any device though.
Thnx for the input. I can't tell what's the reason behind it, but my Omnua was the same. To many Tiles and the start screen will get choppy etc.
Nobody have any trouble with the screen brightness and phone freezing for a short period? Many small things I never noticed on my Omnia 7, and I thought that phone wasn't all there. If all small problems is here in scared for the survival of WP if phones get worse. If there to. Ompete with Apple plz give solid performance.... I feel disappointed :'(
I've a ton of live tiles and no start screen lag. Maybe your device is defective?
or maybe my standards are 2 high. It can't be a coincidence that my Omnia 7, Lumia 800 and now my Titan is doing the same thing...but that is a WP7 issue. Currently is automatic screen brightness my worst concerns, and if dark room or sunlight don't really change on your phones, then I know its a standard Titan issue, if not, I need to send it back for repairs. And maybe the screen freezing I have is connected to the sensor is broken. I have no clue so .....if you cover your phones top, or put a strong light on it, does your brightness change?
screen freezing should probably be more accurately be called screen drop out, like its disconnected some how. Haven't happend for 1-2 days now.
I remember my old HD2 was reported with broken screens as a flaw and people had to send in a lot of there devices before it was fixed. Kind of scared its typical bad HTC quality playing its thing?
Autobrightness - known bug
Screen stutter - tried SRS-off?
Start screen lag - ghosting
Screen drop - lock-unlock screen, known bug for some handsets.
It's all in the sticky of FAQs.
I can fill my screen with tons of tiles too and get absolutely no lag.
I think really the best way for any of us to tell you whether or not the type of lag you are experiencing is normal would be to take video. Use the phone as you normally would, take some video of you doing it, and clearly we should be able to see any weird lag issues.
But again, a little bit of lag, on any device, is totally normal. It may be that you are just too picky. I imagine that using Android would totally kill you since the lag there gets out of hand at times.
Problem is, while you may think its Windows Phone in general because it has happened to the last 3 of your devices, the rest of us here experience little to no lag with our devices, which would rule out that it is just a Windows Phone problem. It may be the way you set your phone up that it causing some kind of lag, totally possible, since everyone sets up their device in different ways. And more than likely, you have set your phone up a certain way every time you move to a new device, because that's just how you set it up.
Thanx for all the great input and maybe im just picky.
Great FAQ thread, sorry for not seeing it, but I would give you the tip to rename it to somthing more...boring? :-D. All I saw was FAQ and noob and then my interest was gone, sorry for that, usually see em and they always rock so thnx for a nice post. As a naming tip. Maybe just me but in sorry i missed your FAQ. Keep upp the work and nice to know its basically HTC screwing up again, when will they learn. (Miss my Omnia 7)
also, feel free to delete this thread if you consider name change ...lol, just trying to be kind and frank.

No problem mate! I've changed it
I think HTC din't just mess up in general. It was the first batch (Oct/Nov purchases) that had the most issues and plenty with ATT. In the UK if you got something from first batch off CarPhone Warehouse - you would see those freezes and lags. However, I swapped mine just before December and no issues after that. The ghosting is common with ALL HTCs. Android, Windows - doesn't matter. It's their S-LCD/LCD screens.
hehe okay. Just bought mine of Expansys and they were waiting to get em in to stock so was hoping to skip first wave. Any ways to see which rendition I have? Hmm I will go to the FAQ after your reply so delite this thread in awhile then, its no good when there is a FAQ, especially as good as the one there is.

Factory Reset and Still keep root using Voodoo?

Hi all! I am on the latest OTA (9.4.2.28) and rooted. I have some annoying bugs with my screen that screen shots cannot capture and they are hard to explain in words too.. Basically I notice them primarily on using two PDF reading apps.. and sometimes when I quickly sleep and wake the screen up..
Some Background:
One bug causes the whole screen output (icons, system bar etc.) to move a few pixels up and then down over and over in a jittery motion and I have found no way to cure it other than a reboot.
The other bug causes the screen to generate jagged noisy lines like you may see on an old CRT TV especially with a very poor analog signal... And this happens mostly while using the PDF apps... And rarely I noticed this happening system wide.
Now I am confused as to whether this is a software bug or a hardware bug. If a software bug, then installing some Custom ROM may help. If hardware then I wish to return this and get an Infinity pad as others tried as I just can't accept the fact that a $500 tablet struggles to display PDFs, which is one of the "main" reasons I bought it... In fact, I am put off by its troublesome PDF viewing bugs and so I don't make use of it so often... and whenever I do end up reading PDFs on it, I face this issue! Not a fun way to enjoy my tablet I paid for (and I am a student so that money wasn't so easy to part with... )
Main Question Starts:
So, long story short, I have decided to do a factory reset to see if it removes the bugs so that I am a happy man! But I don't want to lose root in the process. So, will Voodoo help?
Secondly, even after a factory reset, if the problem persists, do you think it is hardware (in which case I'll try my best to return it for a Infinity) or software (so I can live with it by installing a ROM...)...
Side note on my failed return attempt:
Also, I already tried to return it to Bestbuy where I got it from. They said they won't do the return since I have no insurance purchased from them... And I told I have issues with WiFi but my particular TFP doesn't have "major" issues. Therefore, when he tested it and saw reasonably good WiFi, he was even more insistent on not allowing the return..
ANY help in this regard and I will be extremely grateful! Thanks in advance!
Here is a video displaying the error... Please tell me if you think it is a software bug or a hardware bug...

smaller than a human hair. but still visible.
its located on the upper 1/3 of the screen. horizontal.
If you can't screenshot is,is hardware,a deadline pixel...sorry :/ Try to move the device, carefully hit it...and see if the line disappear for a moment...

If it is connection/floating error - it will not be visible always. If it is NOT hardware, you definitely should be able to take screenshot on which the line would be visible.
use LCD Test (AMOLED ready) from Google Play. Test it.
BUT: if you definitely DO NOT want to provide look, and same time if you DO require answers, solutions, and help - keep requiring.
Having the requirements is a best motivation in life.
Privately, I'd like to advise you to KINDLY ASK for help here, not to REQUIRE it.
i tried.
i do not know what to do or how to fix it.
what do u mean by floating /connection?
did the lcd test and the line was always there. (not sure about thee black screen- couldn't see)
and BTW
sorry for the tone.
some things do get lost in translation
and sometimes desperate and frustrate can sound like demanding.
THANK U FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS.
By the "floating" error type related with connection: loose screen connector.
I had this with one of my previous phones, that the error occurred pretty randomly.
But, if I'm not wrong, your phone is pretty new, right?
therefore, rather than using the term :"warranty repair", I'd prefer use of : item not according to the purchase agreement, and I'd took it to the store for replace (of course: it is possible in EU, but I have no idea where you live).
Anyway: Frustration is good excuse for me, which I can understand very well.
Good luck:good:

[NOT-A-FIX] Possible touchscreen issues fix

Edit: these modifications below sometimes help a little bit but DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING
 @devs please close this thread.
Hi,
just found a thread at sony about the touchscreen issues. Since that post also references some XDA-Threads I guess it has been published before in some other Xperia threads, but I did not searched for it.
I tested this running stock Xperia ROM (.402) and also CM11 and these issues are gone for me. The touchscreen is much more responsive now and I never noticed that complete touch freeze again.
What's about your device? Does this fix help?
Note: You need root to apply this fix!
Change these two lines in /system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
R/W-Mount /system (mount -o remount,rw /system)
In /system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc change the values of
touch.pressure.scale to 0.001 (original value: 0.1)
Code:
touch.pressure.scale = 0.0001
touch.filter.level (original value: 2)
Code:
touch.filter.level = 1
reboot

This is hasenbein1966's suggested fix, unfortunately didn't seem to make a difference to me. But then again, I don't have the issue where the screen completely freezes, only occasional unregistered touches and some glitchy two-finger gestures, when the tablet is resting on a stand or some other surfaces.

Thanks for the hint!
According to this I searched a little bit and found another thread from hasenbein1966 on the german Android-Forum
There he reports that this TS issue is gone when he replaced the library in /system/lib/touchfilter/tftype.so with one from the Z1.
The complete thread is in german but google translate can do the (or tell me the #msg and I'll translate it for you if it's not too much
I didn't tried it since my Z2 is currently @home, but I think it's worth a try if the issue ever comes back to me.

Just tried the tftype4.so fix and while it doesn't fix the touch issue 100%, I definitely do see a noticeable improvement.
Update: never mind, the touch screen just went back to its usual behavior. The improvement was probably purely due to rebooting.
Update 2: yup, just got the same temporary post-reboot improvement after restoring the backup of the original touch filter file.
I suppose I will just wait until they finally start to roll-out that latest certified firmware, and see if that brings any improvement. But I don't have my hopes high since it's obviously a grounding issue, which of course is hardware-based.
I tried the "fix" involving the clearpad.idc changes, too.
It did not fix anything, I regret.
Touchscreen response is still a pain in the you-know-where.
Haha, this whole touchscreen thing is bordering on hocus-pocus...
Yes, I suggested this "fix" here weeks ago because it seemed to improve the issue back in the days when I still had the .36 firmware.
It wast just a suggestion for people to try it, I didn't claim it to be a definitive "fix" or so.
Meanwhile I had to reset the clearpad.idc values to 0.1 and 2, because annoyingly the tablet often recognized double taps when I only tapped once which made, for instance, inputting passwords nearly impossible. Now I haven't this problem anymore, so obviously clearpad.idc DOES make a difference - it's only mysterious what clearpad.idc values really do, there is no documentation available anywhere.
The touch screen is also rather dependent on weather - here in Germany it's now hot and humid, and touchscreen operation, especially with greasy hands, is less reliable than in cooler, drier weather.

Double taps are painful experiences! I can hardly stand it.. So you completely fixed double taps problem? May I have your clearpad.idc code? And one more question is what's your rom region and version? I want to flash my tablet if your rom and method can solve this problem

He only restored his clearpad to factory default, so your clearpad is most likely the same as his.
