Phone bricked? Need help! - HTC Rezound

I just got my rezound today as a replacement for my tbolt. Everything was fine until I updated the software for ics. The phone just turned off after I pressed ok to install. Now, even after a hard reset, I get stuck at the splash screen. Was gonna run to verizon tomorrow but wanted to exhaust all of my options which would not void the warranty. Thanks!

Well your phone isn't completely bricked if you can get it to the splash screen. Try running the latest ruu or ota and see if that works.

Battery must be more than 30% charged and make sure the file is named PH98IMG.ZIP and not PH98IMG.ZIP.ZIP

Glad I could help! It should work, but if not, re-flash the ota/ruu another time because I've heard of stuff not sticking after flashing an ruu.

bootlooping after fail full ruu rom flash question?

so i tried to flash the full rooted ruu rom via hboot, i had it sitting on my table with the batt door off and knocked it on the floor ( accident ofcourse ) and the batt came out halfway during the process so now it goes into the htc screen then blank htc screen then blank and i cant get into cwr so my question is can i salvage it or am i f**ked?
Have you tried hbooting to recovery? Volume up and power down when the phone boots up.
cant keep it in cwr long enough to do anything, keeps rebooting and when it does go into cwr it says something like cant mount cache i think

+1. That's exactly what would have worked. I know it's too late for the lad now, but for future users...
If you're ever stuck in a boot-loop and can't hboot into recovery, you'll need to copy and past the PGIMG05.ZIP file onto the root of your SD Card. This will be about a 200-400 meg file and would usually be a stock rooted RUU or stock signature RUU. After it's on the root of your SD, make sure it's the only PGIMG05.zip file on there! Then start the phone by holding down power + volume up. This will force the phone to hboot the PGIMG05 file which will get you past the boot-loop.
For some it's a good idea to have insurance too.
You can get a replacement minus the deductible if you "lose" your phone.
Just make certain you call VZW as soon as you lose it.
I don't suggest selling the phone for parts and saying it's lost, but I'm sure others have done this to cover their deductible.
Those without insurance...I have heard people have had great success with warranty replacement when using over the phone support when the phone doesn't boot or bootloops.
Since you send the phone back to VZW by mail, their replacement standards are much lower than dealing with their retail and face to face support.

I'm new to this, just rooted my thunderbolt the week before last (have rooted a total of 4 phones though since and created my own bootimage with sound and everything! lol!), and that's what came to mind when I read the original post but I didn't "know" for sure. Thanks for confirming it. This stuff is fascinating to me. I like to understand what is going on. I'd like to someday write my own rom. Perhaps it's a pipe dream but is there someplace you could point me where I could start my education?

Putting the stock Rom on took the root off of it but didn't fix my boot loop. So I returned it and got a free thunderbolt.

Your the reason Verizon hates rooters you are wasting there money on a device that is out of warranty because you would rather send it back than fix it yourself.
Thanks, jerk.

I believe you could start with os kitchen or another UI for extracting certain parts of a rom. I think in large part its knowing java script.

Constant Reboot

I had just gotten home and set my phone down on my desk to go to the restroom (yeah probably kinda personal but whatever) and then I came back to my phone and saw it rebooting on its own. I waited to see if it would go back into the phone and it just kept loop booting after the boot splash screen.
I took the battery out, then restarted it, same thing.
I took the battery out again, went into the recovery, wiped everything, wiped dalvik, and wiped cache, and then installed a new revision of the ROM that I use (Synergy 3Dvo r456). It installed fine, rebooted to go into it, and now it STILL just constantly reboots.
Any ideas? I'm trying different ROMs but I have no idea why it would randomly just start doing this. It literally was from a span of just a minute or so, coming back and seeing it do it. No one touched it, nothing. I've been using it all day today without any problems what-so-ever too.
I would wipe everything and start over and flash the rom again. (Different rom) Have you flashed a different kernel for the rom?
And FYI, this belongs in the Q&A section. Be prepared for what is about to come.

no this belongs in Q&A
I realized after I posted it but I can't move it myself. I can't delete it either.
I have a bookmark to the CDMA Dev section and forgot to go back to the beginning of the EVO 3D section then to the Q & A section.
Anyway, yeah, I've flashed multiple different ROMs. I've flashed the newest revision of what i was using, I flashed the last revision of Synergy before 2.3.4 came out, and I even flashed the sprint stock ROM. I still get constant reboots after the splash screen.
No I haven't flashed anything lately as far kernels.
Thanks for the responses guys, and like I said, if I could delete or move my own post I would've literally right after I posted it
Also, after each different ROM I wiped everything, wiped dalvik, and wiped cache.

If you're still having those issues I would run the ruu and take it back. Just my opinion but it sounds like bigger issues than just roms.
And people make mistakes, hopefully only the mature members will see this before it gets moved. I would pm a mod and ask it to be moved.

This is so weird. I literally have been using it for a week since I last did anything to it (flash different\updated ROM or flash a new radio) and obviously everything was working up till now since then. I put it down on my desk and come back and it's loop rebooting.
Any ideas what it might be so it doesn't happen again? lol
Make sure if you are S-Off that when you run the RUU you also set secure flag 3 in fastboot. Its in the guide, if you dont go back to S-On you will get a Process System Not Responding, this causes more reboots!
Yeah I just flashed the IMG file and it's still loop rebooting.
I'm gonna set the secure flag 3 now as we speak.
Thanks for the replies again guys.
EDIT: just reflashed that stock IMG zip file and then returned it to S-ON and rebooted 2-3 times max (it wasn't the 5 reboot like it does when removing S-ON and reflashing the stock IMG file). Now it's back into the phone and not rebooting anymore...wtf? Should I still try and exchange it? I bought it\upgraded to this phone <30 days ago so there shouldn't be any question of whether I can or not, right?

If it says S-on, you're good to take it in. Even if you were out of your 30 days they should still do it under manufacturers warranty.

Something could have gotten borked when you flashed something, thats why a ruu fixed it. I got mine replaced under warranty like 2 days ago for a reboot issue, phone was bought June and they replaced it with no problem.

It isn't doing it anymore now that it's S-ON, before I returned the security flag to S-ON it was loop rebooting. I'm gonna try and exchange it anyway, that makes me nervous that that happened without me even near it or anything being done to it lol
Lets hope that the sprint techs don't update ur phone thinking it will fix ur concern... They seem to think that an update fixes all issues... Good luck

Cant Boot into Recovery?

Hey everyone!
So my rezound has a cracked screen, and I need to take it to verizon. Heres where my problem is.
I used the htc dev tools to unlock the phone and the zerg root rush method to root. I DID NOT install a custom rom. After the screen cracked, i followed nghtmr3's thread on how to UNROOT the rezound. I successfully got it to S-On, but when i attempted to install the stock rom, I could not do it. I tried to install the OTA update, but it came to the common downloading screen, but then an error pops up, and it wont complete the update.
So I tried to flash rom manager, reboot, and run recovery, but i go back to the same download and error screen.
I really just need to get superuser off so i can take it in without worries.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it, because i have been going at it for days now.
Thanks,
James
p.s. The attached picture is the updating screen. I come to this screen, but about 1/4 the way in, it comes up with a red "!" and sits there untill i battery pull.
p.s.s. I understand that i have already voided the in-house verizon warranty by having a cracked screen. And i do have the asurion insurance, but i dont want to send it to them with SU still installed, as i have heard that they will send it back.

Rooting your phone does not automatically void the warranty. It MAY void the warranty. A cracked screen shouldn't be a problem.

I think I bricked it

So my phone doesn't light up at all, no orange light, no boot, no sound when i plug it into the computer...
I've done the unplug and plug back in without battery, pull the battery, leave it out for a while, try to boot into hboot, nothing seems to bring any light or life to the phone...
I'm S-On right now and was following the instructions on Nil's thread on updating to the newest firmware in post 3 of his thread... It finished the first stage of flashing and then went dark, nothing from that point on... Any ideas?

well, send it back to VZW. they take back bricked phones. just say "my phone wont boot" they will tell you things to do and then you can send it back when none of that works.

If it's really bricked then they won't be able to check it. Once I sent back a Rezound on ICS with an unlocked bootloader and they didn't care and when I sent my bad nexus back, I completely forgot to unroot it and sent it back with CWM, CM9 and all my personal data and they didn't care. They don't check it they just flash it back to stock

Exactly what ashton said, if you can't boot it, they can't either lol

I know this may sound stupid, but what percentage was the battery at?

[Q] Bricked?

Stock ROM, Rooted and Unlocked.
Phone did the OTA update from today (5/2/13), rebooted to the green android, progress got to about 3/4 done and the screen goes black, battery was full charge.
Phone will not come on now, no button combinations work, computer (odin or toolkit) does not see the phone.
Are there any other options that I can try?
Did you do a battery pull?

Multiple times, still nothing.
Only thing I do get, when I hold the power button, the proximity light will flash for a brief second.

Stated that in the OP, battery was full when I started the update. Only took it about 5 minutes before it went black, so I know the battery isn't the issue.
You may have bricked your phone. You're not supposed to run the update if you're rooted and unlocked, something about it not being able to update with a custom recovery. I almost made the same mistake.

I had put the stock recovery back on it before letting the update even download.

Oops missed the full battery line in the OP. How did you put stock recovery back? Did you return the phone back to stock?
By the way can you even get into Download Mode by holding volume down+home and power?

Used Note 2 Toolkit to get stock recovery back on it (using Odin) but had left the phone unlocked and rooted.

Gotcha, I never use toolkits so didn't even know that was an option. Well guess you know now to nut take an ota with a unlocked phone. Kind of strange it won't enter Download Mode.
I saw in anther post that are making Verizon send you a replacement since you bricked your phone, so I guess this thread is pointless now

Yeah, is kind of pointless now, but again, the keyword was should have a replacement, knowing Verizon, I will likely get screwed. But if I can somehow get this one back up and going, I can tell them to cancel it.

Same exact thing happened to me . Chk this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249146
Only way to recover is a RIFF / JTAG . I even tried the 300 KOhm and 301 KOhm jig to get it into Download mode and nothing ...... So its def a *REAL* brick that needs expert equipment or a factory service.
