I have the htc amaze with ics 4.0.3 just got a really cool car dock that is universal just wanted to know what is the best app for hands free like playing my Txt to me and letting me Txt back and to run the phone with my voice and the best gps program with turn by turn and tells me the time I will arrive with traffic I have a Samsung tab 7 I'm using right now but it has some problems so I'm switching to my htc amaze for the car and gps and texting if I can find some programs that will do everything I need

Google maps navigation option works fine for navigation purposes, arrival times and stuff, not really sure about the voice texting option since I never really payed any kind of interest into that.

Google Now. But not entirely hands free when using Sense. I tested it on CM9 and it recognized Google and did a search. And you can text straight from it.

Try Vlingo in the Play Store. It's allows you to navigate and it reads messages aloud to you and then you can reply by voice. I don't use it daily because my drives are usually short but for long drives when I mount my Amaze with my dock, it works well. The only thing that bothers me is you can't play your music while Vlingo is on.

Style over substance?

So, I’ve had the device for over a week now. I bought the phone as a spare one as I’m traveling abroad a lot and was tempted by navigation (Nokia Drive) and Zune subscription. The phone seemed to be a great option to put a local sim in.
But:
1. No way to change mms settings for local sim
2. Nokia Drive isn’t offline navigation as promised. It still needs the internet to calculate or recalculate the route.
3. Zune is impossible to use as there’s this annoying clicking noise while skipping the track
4. The ringtone and vibration is so soft that I keep missing a lot of phone calls
5. Facebook app for wp7 is a mess when it comes to messages section which I often use. Some messages come as text (baked in integration) some come via Facebook app and some don’t come at all (despite being notified by Facebook app). App developer advises to use web version to access the messages.
6.No WiFi priority (even if you’re in WiFi range and the phone is in standby it still uses 3G, rather than WiFi to get push notifications and sync with your email, calendar, etc)
Don’t get me wrong. The build quality and the screen is absolutely fantastic, but performing day to day tasks is a struggle! Oh, I don’t have the battery problem. Battery life’s been really great for me.
What do you think guys?
WiFi priority would make a big difference I reckon.
I've taken to switching 3g off when I'm either in the office or at home on a wifi network and it has noticeably prolonged battery life.
Nokia do need to have a look at releasing some software fixes sharpish. I read somewhere else that the two updates they are promising in the next month were on the cards before the phone went on sale which smack of a rushed release date to me.
Nokia maps does work offline at least mine does Yu have to download the maps for the country tough it won't just have maps for the world built in as that would take gigs of space

2) vibration has been mentionwd a few times and nokia are improving the strenth in the next update in a few days or so now so thats cool as i agree its to soft .
3) wifi priority is also being fixed in the next update along with xbox sync or straem to xbox thing its basically an app whoch you can link to your xbox and play music wirelessly through your tv or view pics on you phone through your tv etc ..

I don't get the Zune hate it is by a long long way the best media manager I have used though if i had a clock that would annoy me but I think thats something to do with your setup as mine dos not. Only thing I found is its a bit slow to start and its remote control is a use is a bit iffy. As for what its sposed to be used for is managing music a challange anyone to five a better easier smoother bit of software. Esp when ot come to album art and fixing track names etc

No. Nokia Drive doesn't work offline. Check here http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/support/faq/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA136278_en_US
Zune is lovely if not this annoying clicking sound while changing track.
The problem is, the device is not really usable at the moment. I know, there will be updates, but why to rusj it to the market.
I want something that works out of the box rather than wait for updates.
Don't get me wrong. I love the device but at the moment it doesn't do what was supposed to do.
Seems perfectly usable to me.
On a side note all smartphones have issues on release however I don't see one which makes this phone unusable.
2. Nokia drive has offline maps.
3. No clicking sound on Zune for me.
4. Phone volume could be higher so I turn up the volume more than normal but isn't a deal breaker.

If this is true then the battery life will be pretty sweet I reckon. My phone has been on for 5 hours today so far with 3G off and has used 14% with lots of texts, couple of phone calls and an app install (bandwidth tester to check that I was using the wifi connection and not 2G). That's normal use for me and yesterday, I had used 25% by this time, so much improved.
Well how odd re offline maps I just tryed it again and dissable network and works fine ??? Unless it allows for the maps even though network is turned off ,?
You're trying to say that white is black! It doesn't work offline. You've got your offline maps, but if you want to search for POI or find a route it needs the internet connection.

Vlingo not working...

Just got a new HTC Evo 4G LTE. I love it but was complaining to a friend that I wish HTC had implemented some kind of "Siri-like" service the way Samsung was with its Galaxy S3. He suggested I try Vlingo.
I downloaded the app but it doesn't seem to be able to connect to any of my apps. It opens just find and it recognizes my voice but, after I finish talking at it says "THINKING," it makes the sound like it understands what I want it to do but then goes back to the main menu screen. It's the same thing when I engage car mode. It will respond to "Hey Vlingo" and appear to hear my voice commands but never actually engages any apps.
I get the feeling that I'm missing something really obvious...

Browser not launching Maps and YouTube apps

Instead, it just opens the pages in the browser (views the youtube webpage, or maps webpage). How can I set the phone to launch the apps, just like every other Android phone I've had?
I'm on the stock rom, rooted.
Thanks,
Dave
I have this same question. Also I've noticed that if I install another browser, say chrome, it won't let me pick a default. It will always default to stock HTC. I'm unrooted stock. Anyone know why? First phone this has happened.
The YouTube thing is annoying too. I much prefer the app...

This is due to the apple patent that took away some of our functionality.
And this fixes it. Must be rooted, there's a flashable version to if you're unlocked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693809
Thanks. Modified the file manually, rebooted and everything worked great!
I'm not rooted yet and this is infuriating. I usually email myself a maps link and use it in the car to launch maps to get navigation going. Now the link opens up the browser so I end up having to manually open Maps and paste the address in. If we keep going backwards like this I'll end up having to print directions out again like it's 2001.
You can thank apple for the backwards progress!

Google Now. Do you use it? Do you like it? Hows the battery life?

I've had google now on a couple roms i've tried. And it was neat when it would tell me how long it would take me to get home from work with the current traffic. But I never really learned how to really use it. Is it worth it? Do you use it, and if so how do you like it, what do you do with it and how has it affected your battery life?
I can't answer your questions, but where do you get Google now?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
In a jb ROM or in the app & game section there's a 4.0 to 4.2 flash able zip that has Google now
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I really like it, it is very fast when searching things. I like how it gives you eta's on common places you go, it also gives you flight information by reading emails about them. Its really convenient but if your a privacy freak definitely not for you.
Can't speak for JB, but on ICS it seemed to take too long to start up, especially for running basic searches. I wished it could be set up as a long-press search app instead of an "all or nothing" feature.
i am currently using google now and it is worth it... using parandroid with jellybean and added this just for fun.. living in a area with high traffic, i can tell if i need alternate routes without calling 511 or going into maps as it will state that there is a delay, i check scores on games and random searches etc. and i think its a great assistant...also when sending voice texts make sure you pronounce your words so it makes them very clear. sure its no SIRI with smart ass responses but this gets the job done far better than the Samsung voice ever did..

HTC Sync Manager OSX No iTunes Support

So I am using HTC sync manager for OSX version 2.0.56 which as of right now is the latest version. It seems that the itunes support portion of the software has been removed. I am posting to find out if any other OSX users out there can confirm that they have this problem as well.
I am trying to determine if the problem is htc sync manager or if the problem is with my phone. I am running Elegancia 4.8.0 for the ATT HOX+
I'd rather not go back to stock and find out if it's a phone problem or an HTC problem.
On another note, even when it does work HTC Sync is an abortion of a program. It's slow as all hell, crashes, and is generally just complete garbage. Does any one have any suggestions for syncing music and playlist to their phone and NOT using doubletwist air sync. air sync is another waste of time. The wifi syncing is totally stupid and takes hours upon hours. My phone generally cannot complete the sync session as the phone runs out of battery while syncing, even when plugged into the charger!
This is a huge problem for me, and is making me consider going back to the iPhone. Why is it nobody can get syncing music right except apple? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Android file transfer, as far as I know the program comes directly from Google and it let's you view your phone as a disk drive when using a mac. The only problem I've run into is that if the screen turns off the program "ejects" your phone as you would a thumb drive. I have about 12GB of music and this is what I use to transfer everything to my phone. Just be sure to put all your music in a folder titled music and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks, the only problem I have with using android file transfer is that it lacks the true features of syncing. I have always thought the android method of just drop some files in and hope for the best is not really a solution. Without a way to sync, I can't get my playlist on there or remove files quickly when I want them gone. This is one area where the iphone has android beat. As you can see by the lack of responses there is just nothing else out there that works as well.
Thanks anyway.
On my previous phone I used "iSyncer for iTunes-Mac" you can do the exact same thing as you would in iTunes it just goes much quicker. I haven't used it for this phone yet because I just haven't had a need. Just plug the phone into the computer, it will then ask you to download a small application on your computer that can access iTunes and you should be good to go from there. I know you mentioned that you didn't like double twist, I was never able to get that program to work right as far as album art, keeping the same albums and the same artist together but I have had great success with isyncer.

I tired isyncr but it did not see my device. part of the problem is the connects vis mda and does not mount the drive with traditional methods. this problem is driving me nuts. I considered going back to the iPhone but after using the big screens the iPhone seems like a toy your get in a cereal box and not a serious device. maybe I should just get an ipad.
