HTC Sync Manager OSX No iTunes Support - HTC One X+

So I am using HTC sync manager for OSX version 2.0.56 which as of right now is the latest version. It seems that the itunes support portion of the software has been removed. I am posting to find out if any other OSX users out there can confirm that they have this problem as well.
I am trying to determine if the problem is htc sync manager or if the problem is with my phone. I am running Elegancia 4.8.0 for the ATT HOX+
I'd rather not go back to stock and find out if it's a phone problem or an HTC problem.
On another note, even when it does work HTC Sync is an abortion of a program. It's slow as all hell, crashes, and is generally just complete garbage. Does any one have any suggestions for syncing music and playlist to their phone and NOT using doubletwist air sync. air sync is another waste of time. The wifi syncing is totally stupid and takes hours upon hours. My phone generally cannot complete the sync session as the phone runs out of battery while syncing, even when plugged into the charger!
This is a huge problem for me, and is making me consider going back to the iPhone. Why is it nobody can get syncing music right except apple? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Android file transfer, as far as I know the program comes directly from Google and it let's you view your phone as a disk drive when using a mac. The only problem I've run into is that if the screen turns off the program "ejects" your phone as you would a thumb drive. I have about 12GB of music and this is what I use to transfer everything to my phone. Just be sure to put all your music in a folder titled music and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks, the only problem I have with using android file transfer is that it lacks the true features of syncing. I have always thought the android method of just drop some files in and hope for the best is not really a solution. Without a way to sync, I can't get my playlist on there or remove files quickly when I want them gone. This is one area where the iphone has android beat. As you can see by the lack of responses there is just nothing else out there that works as well.
Thanks anyway.

On my previous phone I used "iSyncer for iTunes-Mac" you can do the exact same thing as you would in iTunes it just goes much quicker. I haven't used it for this phone yet because I just haven't had a need. Just plug the phone into the computer, it will then ask you to download a small application on your computer that can access iTunes and you should be good to go from there. I know you mentioned that you didn't like double twist, I was never able to get that program to work right as far as album art, keeping the same albums and the same artist together but I have had great success with isyncer.

I tired isyncr but it did not see my device. part of the problem is the connects vis mda and does not mount the drive with traditional methods. this problem is driving me nuts. I considered going back to the iPhone but after using the big screens the iPhone seems like a toy your get in a cereal box and not a serious device. maybe I should just get an ipad.

So I am tired of my Imagio, just ordered the Thunderbolt. So I am switching from Windows to Android, have a few questions, please bear with me!
I have a ton (over 600) of songs in both mp3 and mp4 format, is the transfer easy?
Is the music player stock acceptable, and if not, what do you all recommend?
Do you recommend staying with Sense or look at an alternate UI?
Im sure I will have more once it comes, but this is a start.
Thanks guys.
the stock HTC music app is sweet, but poweramp is better, and it has an equalizer. as to whether or not you will like sense, it all depends, some people swear by it, some people can't wait to get it off their phone
You will not have any issues with transferring the MP3 files, and should also be OK with the MP4 files. I made the transition from WM to Android back in September, and it was quite seamless. The only hard part was getting my contacts transferred over, as they were synced in Outlook. I ended up transferring them to Google using a CSV file and they've been fine ever since.

I use windows at home extensively, outlook for contacts, emails and schedule. Will that be an issue with switching over to Android? Any tricks that wont require alot of screwing around? The wife is the time master at my home, cant have outlook screwed up, or require alot of additional work when dealing with schedule changes.

PowerAMP is the best player for Android. I also recommend Songbird (I dunno if it supports MP4 though). The UI is great on it. If you download the Songbird software for your PC it will automatically sync your library with your phone (just think iTunes).
The UI is totally up to you. I don't mind Sense. There's a lot of great launcher replacements out there though. I'd recommend starting with LauncherPro.

Android does not natively sync with Outlook, but I'm almost certain there are apps on the Market that can add that functionality.
As for the UI, Sense looks beautiful. But some doubt its effectiveness and just how deep it integrates with the OS. I cannot speak for the Thunderbolt, but Sense makes the Incredible lag quite a bit until you spend some time tweaking it. Personally, I started out with LauncherPro, and then upgraded to LauncherPro Plus in order to support the dev since I liked it so much.

What kind of tweaks? Is that internal or through an app? I am not going to unlock this, want the ROM to stay stock (yea, crazy huh? You don't know my wife!)
Thanks guys! The HTC Sync works great! Thanks for all the help. I'm loving this phone! I feel like I went from a pinto to a f40!

Known bugs on the jetstream. Please share/confirm

These are a few things that I have found while I've had the Jetstream. All are minute and I would still buy the Jetstream again even knowing about these small bugs because the jetstream is that functional to me.
Anyone want to check these out and confirm them?
Also, list other bugs you see and we can confirm then as well.
1. In gallery, touch and hold a pic, share to Picasa, at the window to determine which album to upload it to, it doesn't provide a list and therefore won't upload to Picasa via gallery. WORK AROUND: Download the app Photosync by Akira Soumi (Doesn't support bmp file uploads though, i believe) I use this app to sync my photos between my EVO, Picasa, and Jetstream.
2. Sometimes the music app will show a previously played song list when browsing into a new album song list. Ex: when browsing into arcade fire, the song list instead will be David bowie if he was played last. WORK AROUND: Do not select a song to play. Instead, long press on the ALBUM the song is in. Plays the album every time with no glitch.
3. When using google docs, no keyboard appears when attempting to type. Though, this is an android bug, not only on the Jetstream. My roommate has a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and his does the same.
4. Like 3, this one is not native to only Jetstream, I assume. On some text fields on webpages such as Photobucket or Picasa, I am not able to touch and hold to bring up the copy/paste menu. I wish they would put copy into the menu list for the browser.
I cannot think of others at the moment. I will add to the list as I find things. Perhaps an update will fix these annoyances. Please share.
EDIT: Added work arounds for two of my glitches I've mentioned

Im sorry you are experiencing these issues. So far i have not experience any of them at all. the only thing i dont like about is is the lag. For been 1.5ghz dual it sure lags, specially the browser.also, the memory is always below 140mb free. Is this normal?
Thanks
I have the music app bug as well, so bad that I just downloaded the Music app from Google and was done with it. I miss the lock screen widget, but the HTC Music app was too painful to keep up with.
Another bug I've found is with using a Bluetooth keyboard. When the keyboard is left paired until the tablet sleeps, when turning the tablet back on and disconnecting the BT keyboard the onscreen keyboard continually pops up. This happens even on the home screen, and in the music app. Pressing the back key to remove the virtual keyboard does so, but it comes back in a matter of seconds.
I've had to turn off auto screen rotation because it was far too sensitive.
Still no option to sync picasa web albums in the Accounts & Sync section (such as was available on the Xoom)

but my LTE connection fluctuates wayyy more then a normal connection. i can do 3 back-to-back speed tests and get 10mbps, 18mbps, 4mbps, 23mbps (highest i saw) all while my signal is going up and down. Im calling this a bug since i happen to work for AT&T and know that the tower im connected to is only a few blocks and i radio tested my phone next to my tablet and my phone wasn't switching nodes/towers whatsoever.
and considering where i live theres prolly 20 LTE users at peak using the node since LTE isnt available yet and isnt planed till 2012ish. i know its one of the like 10 test towers in the city
ps, also calling it a bug cuz i switched the sim
ps and i dont knoow how to get a tabletinto test mode to see if it is somehow bouncing nodes/towers
pen issue
i use the scribe pen alot and notices that if i'm not using the pen pallet for a few minutes while in the PDF viewer - it won't open again until i'll quit the app and open it again. and that too is not so consistent.
My sound cuts off. Seems to need a reboot to recover.

i have also noticed video issues, mainly a lot of android vanilla stock video options are removed from the jetstream... thus apps like Plex do not work and it is annoying as hell. Also I wish there was a way to get root and enable the wifi hotspot ability. If i pay for data I want to use it as i want.
Occasionally when pressing the home button i get a box that says loading for 10-30 seconds before my home screen appears.
Sent from my HTC PG09410 using xda premium
It seems also that the external SD card loads quite slowly after a fresh boot. It takes a good 15-20 minutes to load all the mp3s into the music app from the sd card. It should not take so long.
bizarre split screen noise on top half
ok I found this thread and have the jetstream since Sept '11.
awkward thing I notice is that flash does not want to work via opera browser.
in generic sense browser the flash works but playing videos via full screen flash player the screen splits with noise, static overlaying the top half of the screen. Can any one else please confirm this?
lastly I enabled pin lockscreen and upon restart and attempting to unlock the screen upon startup in landscape mode the device will just do this boot loop. I noticed you can avoid the bootloop if you unlock in portraitmode.
settings app would just close out if I attempted to enter the power setting in the list. hard reset fixed that.
tablet completely froze out when fully charged trying to perform an encryption. Had to enter the recovery mode and factory reset.
Anyone else having the flash player split screen when watching a video?
No flash issues here in stock browser or Dolphin for tablets.

Style over substance?

So, I’ve had the device for over a week now. I bought the phone as a spare one as I’m traveling abroad a lot and was tempted by navigation (Nokia Drive) and Zune subscription. The phone seemed to be a great option to put a local sim in.
But:
1. No way to change mms settings for local sim
2. Nokia Drive isn’t offline navigation as promised. It still needs the internet to calculate or recalculate the route.
3. Zune is impossible to use as there’s this annoying clicking noise while skipping the track
4. The ringtone and vibration is so soft that I keep missing a lot of phone calls
5. Facebook app for wp7 is a mess when it comes to messages section which I often use. Some messages come as text (baked in integration) some come via Facebook app and some don’t come at all (despite being notified by Facebook app). App developer advises to use web version to access the messages.
6.No WiFi priority (even if you’re in WiFi range and the phone is in standby it still uses 3G, rather than WiFi to get push notifications and sync with your email, calendar, etc)
Don’t get me wrong. The build quality and the screen is absolutely fantastic, but performing day to day tasks is a struggle! Oh, I don’t have the battery problem. Battery life’s been really great for me.
What do you think guys?
WiFi priority would make a big difference I reckon.
I've taken to switching 3g off when I'm either in the office or at home on a wifi network and it has noticeably prolonged battery life.
Nokia do need to have a look at releasing some software fixes sharpish. I read somewhere else that the two updates they are promising in the next month were on the cards before the phone went on sale which smack of a rushed release date to me.
Nokia maps does work offline at least mine does Yu have to download the maps for the country tough it won't just have maps for the world built in as that would take gigs of space

Hey buddy..
nice info buttttttttt
1) Navigation is offline if you have downloaded the maps and have gps on ... i tested it this morning with network off.....and it worked fine .
2) vibration has been mentionwd a few times and nokia are improving the strenth in the next update in a few days or so now so thats cool as i agree its to soft .
3) wifi priority is also being fixed in the next update along with xbox sync or straem to xbox thing its basically an app whoch you can link to your xbox and play music wirelessly through your tv or view pics on you phone through your tv etc ..
4) facebook are making a new app for windows 7 which will make it more like the iphone facebook app so that should be ready v v v soon .... well actually knowing fb a yrs time haha
5) zune is bollox i agree and hopefully we wont have to use it soon as i can see this phone being hacked v v soon to use mass storage
have a great day buddy and excuse my spelling lol i cant spell v well hahah
I don't get the Zune hate it is by a long long way the best media manager I have used though if i had a clock that would annoy me but I think thats something to do with your setup as mine dos not. Only thing I found is its a bit slow to start and its remote control is a use is a bit iffy. As for what its sposed to be used for is managing music a challange anyone to five a better easier smoother bit of software. Esp when ot come to album art and fixing track names etc

No. Nokia Drive doesn't work offline. Check here http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/support/faq/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA136278_en_US
Zune is lovely if not this annoying clicking sound while changing track.
The problem is, the device is not really usable at the moment. I know, there will be updates, but why to rusj it to the market.
I want something that works out of the box rather than wait for updates.
Don't get me wrong. I love the device but at the moment it doesn't do what was supposed to do.
Seems perfectly usable to me.
On a side note all smartphones have issues on release however I don't see one which makes this phone unusable.
2. Nokia drive has offline maps.
3. No clicking sound on Zune for me.
4. Phone volume could be higher so I turn up the volume more than normal but isn't a deal breaker.

If this is true then the battery life will be pretty sweet I reckon. My phone has been on for 5 hours today so far with 3G off and has used 14% with lots of texts, couple of phone calls and an app install (bandwidth tester to check that I was using the wifi connection and not 2G). That's normal use for me and yesterday, I had used 25% by this time, so much improved.
Well how odd re offline maps I just tryed it again and dissable network and works fine ??? Unless it allows for the maps even though network is turned off ,?
You're trying to say that white is black! It doesn't work offline. You've got your offline maps, but if you want to search for POI or find a route it needs the internet connection.

Amaze and hands free apps?

I have the htc amaze with ics 4.0.3 just got a really cool car dock that is universal just wanted to know what is the best app for hands free like playing my Txt to me and letting me Txt back and to run the phone with my voice and the best gps program with turn by turn and tells me the time I will arrive with traffic I have a Samsung tab 7 I'm using right now but it has some problems so I'm switching to my htc amaze for the car and gps and texting if I can find some programs that will do everything I need

Google maps navigation option works fine for navigation purposes, arrival times and stuff, not really sure about the voice texting option since I never really payed any kind of interest into that.
Google Now. But not entirely hands free when using Sense. I tested it on CM9 and it recognized Google and did a search. And you can text straight from it.
Try Vlingo in the Play Store. It's allows you to navigate and it reads messages aloud to you and then you can reply by voice. I don't use it daily because my drives are usually short but for long drives when I mount my Amaze with my dock, it works well. The only thing that bothers me is you can't play your music while Vlingo is on.

repurpose outdated android phones to dedicated mp3 player.

does anyone know of any roms out there designed to turn an outdated or lowend android phone into a PMP/MP3 player? i know they already have the capacity to play media, but i can't help but wonder if battery/performance would be better if you trashed all the cellphone parts of android and designed a UI just for media playback.

For starters, you could put the phone in airplane mode.
A little bit more work: root and freeze or remove all the Apps you don't want/need. Particularly bloatware and other apps that include a service, things that auto-run on start.

well airplane mode would knock out wifi as well, but yes, some ROM's allow you to just turn off the data connection. you'd obviously do well to start with a clean rom is possible instead of stock. but i was hoping someone'd started a little more of a complete solution.

I can see why you might want wifi for downloads or data transfer, but of course that’s not what you asked for (“just for media playback”)
I'm pretty sure there are easy ways to turn off data and phone radios without turning off wifi.
I think you just turn airplane mode on first and then turn wifi on after that.
I just tried it and it seems to work on my phone (afterwards I could access internet via wifi but my phone dialer wouldn't dial out)
If for some reason that doesn't work for you, google airplane mode wifi tool

I haven’t heard of custom roms designed to reduce the capabilities of the phone.
But if that's what you've got your mind set on, go for it. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I am wondering the same thing. I have AT&T's first Android, the Backflip.... that I use as an mp3 player (an expensive one.. lol) and it is running the CM7 rom. I would love to wipe it and have a simple interface that is purely an mp3 player as you said. Putting it in airplane mode, shutting off 3g, deleting bloatware (if ur running stock) are all great ideas.... but I have CM7 stripped down to the bare (no Gapps, no accounts ,etc) and I STILL would like to turn it into a pure stand alone mp3 player with ext memory and amazing battery life. The phone is small (unless you flip it open) so it would be great for it! Was hoping maybe someone got bored since the last reply on here and came up with something. It "seems" like it would be fairly easy since there isn't much to create.... but to have the phone "boot" into just an mp3 UI does actually sound kind of complicated from my small knowledge of Android.
P.S. I have upgraded 5 or 6 times for myself and everyone in my group, so this Backflip serves no "phone" purpose. Would be perfect..
Very interesting idea. Would like to know info on this as well. I've been thinking how to repurpose my old cell phones and this could work.

Not a ROM, But a good solution,
Hey guys. So, It's not a specific ROM for mp3 player-ness, But here's what I did with CM7 on my HTC Evo 4G
- Downloaded a media player app with a full screen widget (PlayerPro or WinAmp should od the trick)
- Set the 4x4 widget as my homescreen, and eliminate the rest of the screens.
- Remove lockscreen and security (or you can use WidgetLocker and put a smaller widget as your lock screen)
- I remapped my 4 Froyo Android buttons (Home, Back, Menu, Search) as MP3 player centric buttons. (pause, play, forward, backward, mute, etc... you can do whatever you want) using ButtonRemapper.
- To top it all off, I use Juice Defender to kill network connectivity, cell connectivity, etc... I purchased the Ultimate version for complete root access features. I keep wifi and bluetooth available for stuff (like connecting to by bluetooth stereo)
So, yeah. Battery still isn't amazing, but it is better. And I don't think there's a ton that can be done about that, the screen is, and will always be, the juice hog. even though it's not a dedicated rom, it works pretty well. I'm lucky that the EVO has such a huge developement community. If you have a less popular phone, you might be SOL with some of these features.
