battery is dead - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey. i was just wondering what will happen if i was flashing a rom or a kernel and my battery died?

That's why they say make sure you have atleast 60% of battery before you flash a kernel/ROM

Nothing good can come from that..

It can be disastrous, make sure to have more than 50% of juice left before flashing roms or kernels. Better safe than sorry
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

Once I flashed a kernel and ROM when I had 11% of battery and nothing happened. I know, I'm crazy

Flashed kernel with 6%. Still have a working phone.

With touch recovery, battery indicator is always present so any time you are there you will always know the amount puff battery you have left before proceeding to flashing.
With it, I once successfully flashed a new kernel and modem with 3% remaining

Soft brick... of course.

i dont think its "Soft Brick" coz you have no battery left the phone will not even turn on (even in recovery)

I've heard a few cases where people hardbricked their phone because their phone disconnected from their PC while flashing via Odin. Personally, I've flashed once when my battery was only 3-5% (don't remember what exactly was left), but as said before, better safe than sorry.

It's safer to charge your phone while flashing rom. I have been flashing roms more than 10 times, I don't think the battery will "die".

it might be rom prob just install any custom rom from the p500 thread and enjoy .there is nothing great in stock firmware if need help just read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038338
just root install custom recovery and off you go
Try charging the phone to 100% and removing and reconnecting the charger for few times. Then reflash the same ROM. This is why they say charge the battery to 100% before flashing a new KDZ ROM.
which rom do u suggest???

Man u are so funny. They say to charge 100% so that your phone doesn't drain while updating. Nothing to do with after update drain.
I suggest flash once again if u want to stay stock.

did flash again... 3 times... still draining... even tried downgrading still no help
Can someone list out the major bugs in CM7 2.3.3 for P500?? Also, P500 is not officially supported by CM7, right?

I am using Nessy #Fenice and I think it is a very good rom.
As noted by the rom creator, it has very low battery drain and I can successfully OC at 806mhz without any instability. You may give it a try.

Thank you. Now I will clear my point. Flashing through KDZ erases battery stats saved on the phone. If the battery is not fully charged, the new starting level would be messed up. Btw, technically the phone can not drain the battery while updating bcoz its connected to usb port.

I'd say problem with rom, I would suggest not trying CM7 6.3 if youre looking for battery life... better use devoid franco, has some tweaks to make it last a bit longer.
I have used nessy too, it doesnt eat as much battery as CM7, but void was the best battery saver out of the 3

[Q] Extended Battery While Flashing?

I've turned into a semi flashing addict trying a different rom each week. Recently I started to use the Seidio 3200mah. Is it safe to do flashing with an aftermarket battery installed, or more specific an extended battery? I read where a guy mentioned he accidentally had one in while flashing a rom and was just wondering is there a danger in doing that.

As far as I know there is no dangerous from flashing with a different battery. I do it all the time. There is no reason for anything bad to happen because of a different battery.

Thanks, I'm getting ready to try Shostock and it was a pain getting the back cover on perfectly with this battery.
Went from UnNamed to ICScrewD about a week ago with the same battery as you, no differnce from stock battery.
I can also verify that the extended batteries work fine. Have done many flashes and used odin a few times and it all worked flawlessly.

Try to reset your battery stat if you are using clockworkmod recovery

Calibration apps from market or everywhere else suck. Nothing else to say.

I have done this before by flashing Dorimanx kernel and selecting the option in ExTweaks.

The easiest way is to flash a custom kernel that supports that feature. Siyah, Dream and Dorimanx kernels all support the feature via Extweaks
maybe you could post some details about what rom/kernel you are using and then it would be easier for people to help you... trey something like my signature
regarding your problem... try to use your phone like you usually do from a fulll battery until 10-15% then recharge it without any restarts

haha sorry. just copt i have cwm. do i need to wait till the battery is fully charged b4 i wipe the data??
I recommend to charge it to 100% then remove the battery for 1 minute (this resets your fuel gauge apparently) then charge it again to 100% so I guess you need to charge it. Afterwards, discharge it normally and try not to reboot at least for one cycle

Hve u tried changing the kernel and seen for now
You probably have done something else your phone will not behave this way. I have an S2 since day one and despite numerous hacking & ROM/kernel change, I have yet to experience anything like what you had posted. Another possible explanation is a weakening battery.

well here are some possible solutions
1. Your battery was faulty meaning the one you bought was faulty bt worked for abt some charges
2. You have to many applications installed running in the background (keep the ones u only need)
3. try reseting battery gauage
4. you are charging ur phone while using applications and games which doesnt give efficient charging
5. Try airpush app to see weather there apps which are ad supported and remove them
6. try another jb rom with the latest siyah kernel which is currently in beta
try battery calibrate app
try installing betterbatterystats app (search on google play) and give a couple of cycles and then compare the log while changing/trying different kernels, and see which one works better for you.
make sure that you are not a victim of the media scanner issue:

[Q] Some weird problems with SGS2 JB Stock ROM

I recently upgraded to the Stock ROM "I9100XWLSE_I9100OXELS6_I9100XXLS8" from CM 10.1
I having the following issues:
1. The notification about "battery charged. unplug charger" & "USB Connected" does not get cleared even when the charger & USB cable are removed. Only way to make them disappear is by restarting the device
2. When the device is powered down, I get the battery icon on the screen and the green bar goes up and down (after the SGS2 is powered down). It's sometime very hard to start the device. I have to remove the battery, keep it for sometime then put it back or go to recovery then reboot from there
3. The display never gets off for some reason hence resulting in total battery drain
Wondering if anyone of you guys facing the similar issues? Also are there any fix for any of them?
I haven't rooted the device yet.
I have been on LS8 based custom stock rom before and never had that problem, at the moment im using omegarom v21 based on LPH and havnt had any problems

Did you do a full clean install with wipes?
Yes. Did factory reset as well. Same issues

Do a re-flash then and see.

Did that after posting this thread and left it overnight same result. in 7 hours the battery got drained from 100% to 22%. The battery stats is still assuming that the mobile is in charging mode. After reboot, the data is updated where I see Display consuming 52% of battery really clueless
