SPRINT STOCK ICS OTA kernal - HTC EVO 3D

I had sprint S-ON, HBOOT 1.5 and did the "wire Trick" to obtain S-OFF. from there I flashed a stock GB sprint RUU and went on to get the OTA for the ICS update.
well, after that I was unable to make or receive calls and texts. a radio error kept popping up. I eventually took it to a sprint corporate store and was talking with the guy and it suddenly started working. I told him what i had done to get where I was. i asked why it started working suddenly without doing anything. he pointed out a yellow box in his store, and said I probably didn't get a signed kernel. whenever someone walks in to those stores they apparently scan the kernel and if its not signed then it will sign in. im not sure if this could be helpful to anyone but as of now everything is working fine on my phone. just wanted to throw that out there to help anyone that was in my same scenario . if any developers would like to see what changed on my kernel i am more than happy to help in any way i can.

So, wait... you just walk in a store and your phone is auto scanned and repaired? Or did they take some form of action?

If this is true (not doubting your experience), what the hell happens when u are on a non stock kernel that's not signed? I don't expect an answer, just thinking out loud really. Thanks for the info!

What?... What!? I don't even... there are no words

Hmm, so a magical yellow box in the store mysteriously scanned your kernel OTA is what you believe??:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I was just going off my experience. The guy seemed very tech savy and even is always on xda as well messing around with the same stuff we all do. So take it as u see fit lol but I was just throwing my 2 cents out there

No action was taken. My phone was was not sending or recieveing texts and no calls all night and into the morning (i was hoping it was going to fix itself over night like a network issue as I have read on some other forums). The guy pointed out this yellow box the size of a. Router and told me that story. Whether its true or not I couldn't tell ya. Then when waiting for him to stop talking to other people I got bombarded with past texts from the night before

I really don't know. He said the ruu I flashed must not have jar a signed kernel or my kernel didn't transpire from the old ruu and that was why I was having those network errors pop up whenever I sent a text.
Well my kernel is here for developers to look at if it could help anything

Is there a link for this magical kernel lol jk would like to check it out.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app

Its never a good idea to be so biased and fanboyish to automatically call this BS. However it is very very unlikely, for a few reasons;
The XDA/android dev community is so large, that we almost definitely have an active member of the forums that is a sprint employee that would have some knowledge of this magical yellow router.
Without them delivering an OTA to your phone while your standing there in the Sprint store, they would need to place your phone into bootloader mode. This is something that would be very obvious, and not something they would do without warning you to backup all of your files, and data, as well as possibly having the phone overnight.
To repair your issue, they would probably run a backup of your data, flash the stock RUU of the latest OTA, and then restore your data.
But.... you never know, right?

Sprint Tech updated my phone to hboot 1.5 after I insisted he didn't

God I just need to vent......
My ear phone speaker was blown so I cleared everything, reverted to stock with hboot 1.4 and s-on and took it to the store and asked them to fix the ear piece for me.
While he was entering data he asked if everything else was ok with the phone. I said ya it was pretty sweet, then slipped and told him it sometimes it was kinda buggy and froze some but no worries really.
He looks at me and says oh I'll take a look at it for you. Of course noticing there was an update he told me about it. I told him I'm not one for updates... if it isn't broke don't fix it right?
He looks at me and says "I see, well we will see if this solves your problem and updates to 2.08"
8(
Now I have a phone with a new ear speaker and hboot 1.5
Cheers.
tl;dr sprint tech updated my phone to 2.08 after I told him not too

Download the PG86IMG RUU you will find in the development section
put it on sdcard
boot into bootloader
flash update
type 'oem writesecureflag 3' into a terminal to give s-on
just leave it stock unrooted with s-off.
then they can update all they want and you have a way back.
hell just flash the latest hboot so they have nothing to blame it on.

This is so absolutely true. It makes me physically cringe when I see people clamoring to unroot their phones because they have to make a visit to Sprint.
They.Just.Don't.Care.
EVERY time I've gone in, I've gone in Rooted, and EVERY time, i've not only gotten exactly the same service I should expect, but usually, end up getting into a conversation with a rep about some new feature that Ive gotten, usually ending up providing dropbox links for apks, advice, etc.
<<bringing it since 2010>>
I am not sure if this will work every time, but when I was in, I left the SD Card in my pocket. When they returned it they mentioned that they were going to update for me but since there wasn't a card in it they couldn't. I have to take out back in. I think it needs to be replaced so hopefully I can get lucky again.
Sent from the Delta Quadrant using XDA Premium App
Yeah, if it's hardware related, what does rooting have to do with that? lol
I have never walked into a Sprint Store in my life with reverted phone software. They take it like it is or I raise hell.
Most, if not all software issues can be resolved by simple trial and error, searching the forums, or a bit of know-how.
Hardware issues are the ONLY reason why one from XDA should ever visit a Sprint Store for phone assistance.
In a case like this, it might be a good idea to temproot and remove the security certs...the phone will download the update, but the actual installation will fail
When I bought my 3d launch day, I told the rep not to even open the box, that I would set it up and if I had problems come back.
With my OG evo I had the speaker replaced twice, both times, fully rooted with cyanogenmod. Told him I tried on stock rom and speaker was still distorted. Both times, replaced with no problem.
As mentioned before, they don't care so long as they have common sense. If it is an obvious hardware issue don't sweat it.
<-- Sprint Lead Tech
Ok I'm a lead tech at an S&R location in TX. I root every phone I get and encourage my customers to do the same (if they seem capable). While Sprint discourages rooting phones, they eliminated the prior rule about not working on rooted devices a while ago. The only thing techs won't be able to assess is software, unless they're like me and love seeing rooted devices. That being said, any and all hardware issues are to be fixed as stated by Sprint Service and Repair policy. Best thing is to just be honest and let the tech know what's going on and why you don't want anything updated. I'll keep working on pushing phone unlocking from the inside, you guys keep making progress in development.
Let me know if you guys need anything.

Sprint Deactivated a rooted because it was rooted

So.. Fiance just called sprint and apparently they knew it was rooted, and deactivated it. she now has to call them from another phone so they can walk her through un-rooting it or whatev and then activate it. WTF?
Not looking forward to going home... lol.
This doesnt seem to happen that often on the forums, or at least no ones talking about it much, or dumb enough to contact sprint for phone issues.
Never heard of that. I'm sure they didn't do it because it was rooted. I've contacted them multiple times from my phone. Other rooted phones. Hell, I think I even let it slip one time that it was rooted. They didn't care.
Did she pay her bill? Lol
This does not sound right... I've had my phone in the sprint store a couple of times, and they clearly saw it was rooted.... what was the issue she needed to contact sprint for?
Sent from another Dimension!
It was difficult to get real facts out of the conversation since it was mainly charged with emotion lol. But she was having issues sending text messages originally. Mind you it was rooted only, with original stock rom.
I tell sprint at the beginning of every conversation that I am rooted. And I have had more conversations than I would like. More than likely they couldn't get it to do something and are blaming it on being rooted. I have had that happen more than once, some of their techs are just plain ignorant.

Bingo. My bet is on that! Some little worm of a tech probably did something wrong and it resulted in loss of service on the phone. Now they're blaming it on root and are saying they refuse to help unless the phone is back to stock.
Mike
Aparently she went to the Sprint Store. The guy there said you have SuperUser your phone has been rooted. And then proceeded to de-activate it. Now it wont even activate.
Original stock rom, just plain rooted. So as of right now sprint store cant touch it, since its now out of warranty. And I imagine made her feel like a criminal about it.
Called sprint and the nice lady said, even though its a stock rom just having rooted alone can cause issues with PRL update and hands free activation in general. she said i just just un-root it and try to activate it. and of course she gave me a advisory that if i chose to root it again that was my decision.
It wont be my decision since my lady is scarred by this event and made me promise to never touch her phone again.
Since HTC gave us the unlock, I'd make them give you a new phone. HTC allows the root or they wouldn't have given the unlock. And they deactivated it, that's bull****.

And that is what they were after. They probably knew from talking to her that she wasn't the one that rooted the phone and wanted to discourage her from letting someone else ever doing it again. It's too bad that they've manipulated and misinformed her in that way. Being able to nandroid is reason enough to root a phone if you're like me and cannot afford a problematic phone. It's great to be able to restore a previously working backup when necessary.
Like someone said earlier, they like to point their finger at root when their level 1 tech can't figure out what's wrong with a phone.
Jason
Next time, if you go in to get something fixed, uninstall the superuser app with titanium backup or by removing it from system/app. You can reflash the su zip when you get the phone back.
From my experience, all they do is check for superuser in the app drawer. If they ask if its rooted, say no.

Rubbish. Complete rubbish. They are jerking you around. Call this number 1-866-727-0665, it's sprint executive services. They will ask where to direct your call tell them you are having service issues. When they connect you, don't mention root at all, just that it won't activate.. They will walk it through from there.. If it's completely stock you have no worries, it will activate.. If for some reason they won't help you, activate it online..
Trust me they are just douchebagging you.

Not trying to troll, but I would of never mentioned root in the first place. Obviously your other half didn't know that but unfortunately, letting sprint know got her in this mess. You rooted her phone, she had a issue, you wasnt there to fix it, she calls customer service, she falls for the bull**** they sold her, now you have a perfectly deactivated phone. I don't care if HTC released and unlock tool, sprint still cares less about rooted phones. Every young sprint employee that I've ever talked to in the stores seems like they are trained to not have or deal with a rooted phone. Why wouldn't customer service be the same. I've talk to one Guy at the sprint place where I pay my bill, and he was just so sure that root screws up your phone completely. Its like they have been brainwash to think that.
My point is, you can't go telling sprint employees that you have root. Sprint would do everything in their power to deny of service.

no they didnt
It's beyond ridiculous that they deactivated the phone over it being rooted. Being rooted means that you no longer get a warranty, not that you no longer get service. Ever since my hero, any time I take a phone in, I either set ADW as the default launcher and hide the SU app, or uninstall SU completely. Obvoliously you should also make sure you're running a stock-looking ROM as well. Doing this, despite many issues and device swaps, I've never once been questioned over being rooted. Also, just because HTC has provided an unlock method, doesn't mean Sprint can't take a stand against it by saying that it nullifies your warranty.
Not here. Idk if any of the members live in woodbridge va, but once I went wit my mom to return her sgs2 for an EVO 3d, and the store manager was there n I star to talk 2 him about the EVO vs the sgs2 ( he has the sgs2) and then he told me that he just to have the EVO rooted n overcloked n i star to show him my EVO wit the eternity ROM n the karnel from ziggy, and the scores that I was gettin on the benchmarks.

Interesting Problem

Everyone else may not find this to be an interesting problem, but I do.
I have a rooted HBOOT 1.40 HTC Evo 3d that I got when the phone was released. I use the original TWRP that was out when the phone achieved perm-root. I've utilized multiple ROMs including: Synergy, CM7, MIUI, Eternity, and a few others. I have been using MIUI for a good two months or so until this recent issue.
Onto the issue, when someone calls me I can sometimes hear them and talk to them. So sometime when I am called my phone actually works as a phone. Other times, the other person's line keeps ringing and ringing. This happens when I call someone as well. When I call my voicemail [1 then call], I get nothing. When I go into the diag everything seems correct. I'm not super-down with all that side of things, but it seems right. I've tried placing a call long enough just in case it's an error 16 for calling [texting is fully operational].
I've NANDed back to a Sense Rom [Warm TwoPointThree] and updated my PRL, Firmware, etc as much as possible and still no dice.
So does anyone have anyway they could help me? Right about now I'm thinking unrooting is the best option. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Not sure if it will work but you can try updating profile then prl in settings. If that doesn't work you can try a data restore. Also if you aren't on the most current radios probably wouldn't hurt to flash that either. Just tossing ideas out there for you.
N if none of that works ask Sprint to reset it n tell them what's going on might be on their end as well

Help please! HTC amaze sending back to for repair.

Please help read!!
So my HTC amaze died on me about 2 days ago I was listening to my music in my car connected through Bluetooth then a cop passed by and everything shut off haha coincidence haha anyway went home had no service like absolutely nothing thought nothing of it and went to sleep, next morning still nothing and ever since now its dead. Called HTC they said most likely its T-Mobile not the phone but they sent me a replacement back cover (which is cool) because the antennas are on the back anyway I know this isn't the problem because even without the back cover you can still get signal. So I took phone to T-Mobile put new sim tested and nothing so now I know its the phone not T-Mobile. Anyway my question is how can I prepare to send back to T-Mobile I have relocked phone put stock recovery and put leaked ics Rom. So is that bad that it sais relocked and bad if I'm using leaked ics rom I know its voids warrenty when it sais relocked but my software and phone everything works perfect its just the signal so will they fix it? And when I send in could I send phone with a eBay bought battery not HTC one so they could send me a new battery or should I send only HTC battery, phone, and back cover. And also is there any fix for this so I don't have to send in? Please help thanks
You can install official ruu and that will update and install your hboot to locked, which is what tells them if it's locked or relocked. If you don't know how to do this you need to read. Also I've been hearing that ever since s off became available they are considering as voiding warranty not sure if this has taken effect yet or if it matters but just to be sure if your s off read the section that tells you how to s on.
Now before you send have you tried toggling airplane mode on and off ? Still no signal? Flash the official ruu usually fixes these issues. If still no signal then I suggest you send it in.

It's still gonna say relocked, the only way he can get it back to "locked", is if he s-off's the device, once s-off is successful, it automatically puts it as locked all over again, he can leave it as lock, restore a stock ruu, then using, use the command: fastboot writesecureflag 3, that will s-on the device along with everything else being complete stock.
Hmm ya I know how to ruu wich I did but I ruu the ics leak and now everything's stock accept that it sais relocked and want to know if that's gonna be a problem for warrenty when I send it in? When you chose to unlock boatloader you voided your warranty. So by saying relocked it tells them you unlocked it. You need to do what dark nightmare says or you run the risk of not warranting your phone. Luckily for me I "lost" my phone so I couldn't send it in.

So update for everyone i called HTC back and told them to cancel my back cover replacement for the Amaze because i know this is not the reason why i have no bars! because without that cover i still had bars and i know the amaze has some more antennas inside the device. Anyway i told them that i want to send the phone in for repairs so now everything set up and just have to send the phone on its way :crying: hope its a hardware issue and they can fix it. In the mean time got kinda intresting email from HTC saying
"After we receive the device, we will diagnose it and if there are any damages that fall outside of the limited warranty, we will contact you with a quotation to repair. If you choose not to repair, a service fee of up to $35 dollars will be charged and the device will be returned unrepaired."
Yes kinda scared me but hope i don't have to pay anything for this repair so everyone wish me luck and ill let you guys know how everything goes.
Sucks im probably not gonna have my phone for about a month
Just asking, but even if you managed to get the phone completely back to stock and say "Locked" isn't HTC able to tell if you've unlocked the bootloader via their unlock process on the website?
I was under the impression that the entire reason for the HTC unlock process (getting the key from the phone, etc) was so that they would have a database of phones that have had their bootloader unlocked? I'm kind of new to this but that was my impression.

I think they do have a database, yes, but that only tells them that you requested the file, they can't know you YOU used the file, can they? Huh? Nope, if they knew you used the file, that sir would be invasion of privacy, then they'd be paying for more than just a simple device replacement with the lawsuits that would be hitting them from every mobile device owner using their product.
So once it says "Locked", they can't say you voided your warranty, then they'd have to prove it.
Yes what darknightmare said you could get token but maybe last second decided not to do it haha anywho sending it saying relocked hope they fix hardware issue if not maybe gotta spend money?

They don't need a database. There is no way I know of to get a "locked" phone once it has been unlocked. It will say "relocked". So HTC knows it has had an unlocked bootloader. That doesn't necessarily negate the warranty so far as HTC is concerned. I've read that they have fixed what are obviously hardware problems. But they won't fix anything that a ROM screwed up unless you pay.
The wildcard is T-Mobile. They may or may not be picky about these sort of things.
Ya for sure lets see what htc sais shipped out today through ups htc should get it thursday hope ups loses or breaks my packagae have 300 dollar insurance ha but yep anyone know of any prices for this fix?

Sir, when I say there is a way to get a "locked" bootloader, please don't argue with me unless you can prove my theories wrong, , I have tested and proven everything I speak of, I don't just say something because I want to.
Edit: For the record, once it says "relocked" you have voided your warranty, if you read the agreement on HTC website when unlocking your bootloader and the message on the device when unlocking, it clearly states by unlocking your bootloader you are voiding your warranty.

100% on what Dark Nightmare said, i followed the procedure on the forums on how to completely restore to stock. i was s-off etc.. after it was all said and done, my phone was locked and ready to rock. I sent it back after my replacement arrived and all was good.
Just read through General, Q&A and Dev section, Trust me the answer is there. It's ALWAYS there. I used the GB juopunutbear S-off tool instead of the ICS tool cause i am retarded and didn't take my time and got stuck because of it. I did 2-3 minutes of using the search button and i was fixed in a second!
First of all! Yes Dark Nightmare is correct he knows his stuff you can put it back to locked anywho i would first like to say thank you for all the replys to this post. I think my post may not have been clear. Of course you can lock the bootloader; that is how one installs the original ROM. But I was under the impression that it then says ”relocked” if you have previously unlocked the device. That warning from HTC have me a lot of pause when I read it! But I think what I read said ”may” void your warranty. But I was reading fast...

[Q] Few questions dealing with Droid DNA

I'm not sure if all of these have been addressed or have a direct answer, but I just wanted to compile everything into
a concise post that I can refer to.
I SHOULD be getting my DNA in the mail today and it SHOULD be fresh out of the box and I am basing the questions off
of that.
Reason for rooting is mainly for the wifi tether app, since I have unlimited data and rather use that then pay for actual service.
1.) Since it should be fresh out of the box are the chances of it being unupdated likely? If so this means I can root it, correct?
2.) I'm pretty new in the rooting field, having only recently rooted my thunderbolt. How comparable will the process be to that?
I had to backdate the software or firmware to be able to do so and am hoping since this is new it wont require that.
3.) I haven't messed with roms too much and was looking at the ViperDNA rom, what would the perks of doing this be? Cons?
I may have future questions later, but this is all I can think of atm.
Thanks ahead of time!

I can almost guarantee you that the OTA will be installed on it and you will not be able to do anything with it until an exploit is found.
The root and S-off process is very easy if you are on the old firmware.
Crap, really? It's the same, power on + vol down process correct?
Even booting up the phone, this is talking if the OEM isn't updated, won't auto start the update, will it?

Well I'm hoping that it will be this way. Should definitely be getting it today and will check it out.
If I can't even root it, I don't know if I will even be activating it.

Boot it up without the sim in it. Let us know, as of last week I would have told you that it's probably not updated. But its been a few days since I've known anyone that got one new in the box.
If it's not updated and you would like me to help you pull and supercid and unlock just send me a pm. If you get offered the update you will want to defer it like 5 days I think is the most it allows.

Yea, I just got it an hour or so ago and booted right into the loader and asked in the IRC and I guess the OTA
was already accepted, so I'm sol for a bit.
Not even going to bother activating it, since I mainly use root for tethering.
I picked up the DNA in San Diego from BB for an upgrade on Verizon. It came with Software 1.15.605.4 710RD. I've s-off'd, root'd & TWRP'd with ease. Now I just need CM10.1 and I'll be happy.
I might fly to France and b-slap the CEO of the company who put the DCMA in.
