My DX2 is rooted on 2.2.2 and at least twice a day there's an update thing that pops up in order to update to 1.3.232 and I can either install it now or postpone it. I've been postponing it for a while now. I was just wondering if I try to update it, will the phone be fine. Will my root access just go away and the phone will be updated? Sorry if this question has been asked already. I looked around, but couldn't find anything about it.

Just accept it, what's the worse that can happen? You have to SBF? Doubt it. You'll probably have an unusable SU icon in your drawer, but the 1-click root will fix that up.
Get crazy my man. Accept that update.

Update using P3's rooted GB instead of take that update it will let you keep root
DX2 Update
Yes. Your phone will have Gingerbread installed and the root will go away. But fear not, just follow the instructions here on how to root GB on DX2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234973
Alright. Thanks guys. I'll just try the update
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Okay, so I just tried to update it and when it was showing the progress bar it stopped about 1/4 of the way through and then the Android dude had an exclamation point, so basically, it failed
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Do you have any system apps frozen and/or deleted? If so, I believe that will stop three ota from downloading.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Thread moved
yeah make sure everything is unfrozen. If you deleted apps you'll have to SBF. Which at that point you could just SBF to GB and avoid the OTA all together.
I did have some apps frozen and I unfroze them and tried again, but yet again, it failed

like they said above... if would be easiest to do the neccessary app backups and just sbf with the p3 gingerbread...
I don't think it will update with root... Just sbf to P3's gingerbread rom and you will be set to go.

Yes, it will update with root but you will then lose root. But all you have to do after that is use the one cluck root method. I would make a nandroid. Backup after that so it will save you time if you start flashing ROMS and need to restore again.
I don't even care about having root access anymore. I just wanna update, but it still fails even after unfreezing all the frozen apps I had:/
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
You must have a few tiny changes still there that you forgot about. This is what happened to me on my og DROID. Just sbf P3's rooted gingerbread and you will be set. If you need help with sbf there is like 5 threads on it on this forum.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Well, I was just trying to keep it simple you know just hit install and there I go, but I guess not. I even tried deleting all my root apps to see if that would do the trick, but still nope
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Yeah, root sometimes does some tricky stuff with your phone. And it isn't all that complicated to sbf, download the files plug your phone in and click start and your done. Its super easy.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
And um I think you can go into your build.prop and change your forward facing android version, so it tricks the phone into thinking it doesn't need to update. That is if you want to stay on froyo, look around on google if you want to go this route.
Cheers.

sbf to 2.3.3
all you need is RSD and the sbf file for 2.3.3, if it doesn't work the first time try it again. sometimes ya gotta try it twice. and if you want to root it once more there is a one click solution for gingerbread.
here's the link for 2.3.3 sbf

Is there any resources that shows me what all the official updates do?

Lmao you think I don't know the different between clicking market and clicking settings, scrolling all the way to the bottom, clicking software update, and clicking the confirm ok button?
I do not have down syndrome.
Also, I can't check for updates now because I am debloated and zip aligned so it wont find any, just tried.

AT&T will put out a update announcement with change logs. Since there isn't any official announcement, we don't know what it is until someone applied it. And if you're rooted and made some changes, I'd be very careful about accepting any OTA updates. First OTA update for Captivate bricked a lot of rooted phones (and some stock, non-rooted phone as well).
I can confirm with the OP that yes indeed this morning I hit the Check for software updates and it gave me that an update is available but servers are busy now try again.
Weird. No update available on my end. Yet.

I just checked the software update and it gave the message along the following lines
"Communication Failed:
There is an update available for your phone but the software servers are busy. The phone will try to contact the server again"
if you try again it says "Current software is up to date. You may check again in 23hrs 59mins"
I wonder if this is a small update that fixes the password lockscreen issue?

I forgot about the password lock bug. This may be the update for it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Probably is the fix for lock screen bug. The update does not always show up for all phones. It is rolling out in batches. You can try cleanup the cache data for the update app and try again. At least, that's how we did it in the past with Captivate.

Some good news for those of you suffering with that little slice of sexy otherwise known as the Motorola Droid RAZR: An update's on the way (and we're told that a soak test has already begun) that's going to squash a few bugs, including that blasted SIM card error, and to improve the camera. Here's the list:
SIM error notification has been fixed
Improved camera features and quality
Improved stability of menu access, browser, phone dialer, video playback and music player to prevent force-close errors and lockups
Updated group message notification in e-mail
Improvement in 3G/4G data connectivity
Maintain network connection upon completion of a voiec call
Background color has been adjusted to improve readability in Lapdock connection UI menu items.
Good stuff. Look for the update to drop any time now.

Yes. Complete stock.
No to the unroot. Apply the Forever Root patch and cross your fingers.
Wonder if this update will break root.
In my experience, it's safe to assume that all OTA updates will break root. This doesn't mean the device can't be re-rooted, but if you're really worried about it, it's best to wait for your favorite dev to incorporate the update in their ROMs.

Manual Update Download
How come the manual update.zip download is not available from someone who has gotten it already...I would have guessed this would be the place to find it!
The OTA here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477505&posted=1#post20477505 can keep root with voodoo rootkeeper. So theres a good chance you can keep root using this.
I'd suggest trying this anyway as the leaked OTA can't currently be rooted after its applied, I assume this will be the case with the official update.

Update Available! But Fail.
Hey guys, i am lucky enough to have the update available but i'm running into issues. I am running 2.3.6 stock, system version 6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US
This is on my non-safe partition using Safestrap 1.09
I can download the update fine and it restarts and begins install, but about 1/4 through it hits a snag and the triangle with an "!" inside pops up then the phone restarts and i get "Software Update Failed" message.
I am rooted and using Voodoo OTA root keeper and had temporarily uninstalled root to do the update.
Anyone have an idea of how to get around this issue?
Thank you for any ideas!
Can you pull the update file and share it?

I was trying to get a screenshot of the useless message, but the update tried to install and the phone rebooted. Then the firmware update screen reported a failure. After reboot my phone still works on ICS. I'm going to take a backup now and be safe as long as the update doesn't update recovery/bootloader...

Yes. Can you re-root it?
I'm on stock & rooted. Not unlocked.
Update notification went off this morning; read some of this thread; told it to let me know again in 8hrs.
Just went off again, I said ok, whatever, told it to update. It rebooted, & now it's just sitting there at the white, "rethink possible" screen.
Key combo reboot actually got it into the "software update" screen, but that then error'd at 1% complete. Error was something like, "01X03fed." It disappeared too quickly while I was typing this. Rebooted again, fully this time, and a, "Installation interrupted" warning is showing.
Hopefully the update notification will be gone, too...
