So i hard bricked my player 5 (i think it was hard brick phone+triangle+computer) cause i failed to flash something on odin.
All I did to come back is flash the kernel for my device.! Whoa.! Don't know if anyone knew this. Thought I'd share.
That icons is force download mode so you can flash what you want
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
yup forced download, not hard brick, hard brick won't give a screen at all without one of those USB jigs.
I'd advise you to rename this thread to something like: "How to recover from a soft brick". Hard brick is completely different
All right, thanks. Cause when I searched xda people said hard brick. Will change.

Im really scared. I have an atrix rooted and unlocked. I had neutrino 2.7gt on it and due to being buggy I chose to flash ee, but did so as an update. It worked but then I had to format my sd card and re flash the addons and when i did i got stuck in a bootloop. so i tried to get into android recovery mode and now I just have a blank screen please help me.
Try flash a SBF Rom via RSD Lite. Take care, you must be careful. This is not a hard brick, so there is a solution. Tell me when you do it
How do i do that
This exact same thing happened to me with the blank recovery screen and boot loop, what I did to fix it was wiping my recovery via fast boot then flashed neutrino2.7 again using rom racer. It turned out that notorious posted a bad link to the rom that resulted in this.

LOL
Of course you can flash a sbf after unlock. I got this SAME problem. Solved it flashing a SBF rom and got that problem that don't recognize soft buttons. Solved this new one with a fix found here, at XDA Forum!

Its recommended not to sbf flash, but seeing as you offered no alternative method, perhaps you should delete your post. I also have used sbf flash to recover from a soft brick and confirm it works. You will need the last firmware you use for stock.

Don't forget to wipe all you can . You can find Stock SBF Versions and how to do it easily here
If you're not comfortable with rsd you can use fastboot as well.

The same thing happened to me. I used fast boot and erased the recovery in fast boot and then fast boot flashed cwm recovery using the zip. File from their website
I used the instructions from the second post on this thread.

Both of you:
Just because you flashed a SBF after unlock and didn't hard brick does not mean it's OK to do it. There are warnings all over the forums about flashing a SBF after unlock. You should NOT flash a SBF, plain and simple.
I won't delete my post. My post stands, The post prior to it recommends flashing a SBF. I need offer no alternative to tell the OP that this is bad advice!

Warnings against unlocking bootloaders.. did you stop at those warnings? Warnings about flashing custom ROMs, did you heed to those warnings as well? The only reason they SUGGESTED not to use rsd is because it runs the most risk! Your phone loses connection from your computer, you get hard bricked. Phone loses power during flash, hard bricked. Cwm is the quickest and safest (as is fastbooting) but doesn't mean you can't use rsd. Stop being a troll.

It's a bad advice, i know it. Do you see another way to solve it? Or do you prefer a phone soft bricked than try to solve it? If there is a better way to do.. i don't know it, so tell me. Sorry but we're trying to help him/her, he/she doesn't know what to do. Please stop say you're right or wrong, that i'm right or wrong... it doesn't matter . Please post a solution, we will thank you
I have installed slim bean on my vibrant but found it laggy....so i wants to back to ics ...now i m flashing ics rom but getting error as installation aborted.
I have flashed glitchy kernel but no luck
Help me
Odin back to stock first. I think your treading on dangerous territory if you try to go from JB to ICS directly.
I agree with Toast ^^
I always suggest going back to stock via odin before doing anything like that, just to be safe.
If you can't or are in a rush,....you can get back to ICS from JB in the usual way (full wipe, flash)...I do it all the time, since odin isn't an option for me
at the moment...so I can assure you it's more or less safe, since my phone is still running just fine even though I've gone back and forth without odin quite a few times.
But again, if possible....always odin.
Good luck!
Finally tried to flash phone with odin but i m not able to go into download mode...i have tried 3keys combo, usb jig but no luck.
Now phone is stuck on samsung vibrant screen maybe now its bricked.
Any suggestions wat to do now ?

Sometimes it can be tricky getting into DL mode. Try pulling the battery, have phone plug in to the cable/PC, hold button combo and put the battery back in. Also try different ports on PC doing this. If you have any life you are not hard bricked so don't panic!

I m not able to go into recovery or download mode.
I m feeling i have killed my vibrant

when did last time u used download mode? were u able to use recovery after flashing slimbean? u should have odined back before installing ics ............I think if u can't enter both recovery and download mode then u might have hard bricked ur vibrant.........
Downgrading
When downgrading, upgrading or flashing new roms, it is always good practice to odin back to stock. This will help remove any "ghost" files that may still be around.
Sorry to hear about your phone but don't give up. Keep searching the forums and you may find a way to fix our phone.
I have searched all forums but not found any gud answers .
Is there any way to unbrick hard bricked phones ?

I heard about one click unbrick ......just search it ......that will be ur last hope............if that won't work then u got ur self new fancy paper weight .....sorry cantdo anything .......if u are in India then give to Samsung service centre they might help
Just because you don't see the graphic showing download mode doesn't mean you cannot get in it.
In a post a couple days ago called "I need help!" Woodrube posted a guide about it.
Open Odin, plug in your USB to PC, not phone yet.
Now try to enter download mode. You may set no graphics or black screen but, it doesn't mean Odin won't see your phone. Its happened 3 times that I know of in the last couple days. Since you can still see the Vibrant text all hope isn't lost.
Just some "in case you need it" info, you can go to
www.mobiletechvideos.com
They can do a JTAG repair to fix a hard brick. They can also perform the unbrickable mod. They are very professional and have fast service. I shipped my phone off from Washington D.C. to them in Texas on a tuesday, I had my phone back on monday. They stayed in contact to notify me when my phone arrived, when they completed and shipped.
Hopefully no one will need their service but JIC.

Since there seems to be A LOT of people bricking their notes just curious, What recovery are you using?
I have always used CWM since my first Android and talk trash about it as you will, its never let me flash an incorrect/bad ROM...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Lol it's not protecting you from bricking, you just know where to get the right roms.
Go download an international note rom and flash it in cwm... Report back how it goes
Then I'll link you to where to get it jtagged after you brick it by doing that.
We all know that no matter what recovery used, that will paperweight, jtag needed, absolutely hard brick it.
yeah it does not matter which recovery it matters which rom and kernel u r flashing wrong type of phone with wrong rom/kernel is a brick
So then there's a lot of people here that can't read lol.
I remember long ago having an international ROM for an old phone and cwm wouldn't install it, kept throwing me errors so I figured maybe it was a little protection.

I used my jig when it was soft bricked. Samsung has it now for a hard brick.
I use a cigarette and a bottle of imported beer
I tried to update my firmware via bootloader and when I tried to reboot it, phone just wont turn on. Please help me.
If you skipped an update this is the result.
Seek out captain throwbacks thread in development, there's a few guys in your situation and more info on the matter.
You probably are hard bricked tho. Fuses was talking about restoring JTAG or something.

Having trouble getting out of initial boot screen "samsung galaxy s II GT-I9100 with the triangle". I flashed siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-i777.tar using Odin3_v1,85 and had issues using video and camera. Was using galaxys2root.com as guide but no resolve in forum. I tried to factory reset using power vol+ vol- and was still being shown that i was running the siyah kernal... obviously dont know what im doing. I then tried reset using settings and am now stuck at the boot screen. My computer recognized that it was sgh-i777 when bubble popped up but no data is being listed and is showing up as 2 drives in my computer. It shows battery charging briefly but then screen goes black. Is this salvageable, can I get back to a stock ROM? Please advise.
ODIN or Heimdall + Download mode will get you out of any situation....
Did you read the stickies or the thousands of other threads that covered this?

Im not able to get phone into download mode. Its stuck at that first screen. I thought I was unable to use ODIN if I cant get the yellow box. If I'm able to use it then what should i flash an unroot?
unrooting?
you dont unroot anything.
just flash a stock rom package using ODIN
do you know how to get into download mode?
NEVER USE GALAXYS2ROOT jfc.

Since your computer recognizes the phone, try using adb portable in my signature. It can help you reboot to download mode if you're stuck in a loop.
You can find stock packages in the development section and the stickies.

thanks for the help
I was able to get into download mode... apparently I didnt realize how to do it before. But I used the vol+ vol- plug in usb to enter... just looking for a good stock rom now or willing to mess around with some others... I just want everything to work... for the time being its about as useful as a cerca 90's pager... i can only view missed calls.

I like Shostock3 (personal opinion) but if you stick with a stock Rom, make sure it is 4.0.3. 4.0.4 had an issue with a sleep of death problem.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
what to do first
my phone says im running 4.0.3 and its hardly working so Im thinking that I did something incorrectly when I flashed something from stockrom.com . Im able to get into recovery mode and download mode now with no problems. From what Im reading everyone suggest that I have CWM (but do I need it right now?)... I havent installed it via google play... if it is even there... so is it something I flash? I want to just know how to get it back to normal so I can play around with different roms and find out what I like. I hear that ROM manager is a no no. So... what to do... thanks for having the patience to help.

You'll want to get root if you don't have it. Either flash the stock + root package or use the Exynos Abuse app to gain root. If you use the app, do not patch the vulnerability.
Once you have root, download Mobile Odin and flash the Siyah kernel. You can flash Siyah with regular Odin but it will trip the flash counter.
Clearing the flash counter is as easy as a jig or the triangle away program.
For any extra information on any of these topics, read the stickies and look at Creepyncrawly topics.

thanks again
I have flashed AOKP JB on it and everything seems to be working fine... I now understand the appeal of the whole thing... It runs so smooth. Is there a big reason to clear the flash counter? Is that just a warranty thing? I can see why you wouldnt want a huge triangle on the front if youre trying to sell it. What is patching the vulnerability?

Warranty is really the only reason to clear it. When you run Exynos Abuse it asks if you want to patch the vulnerability that allows it to root the phone. This is a permanent fix and cannot be undone.
