I have since a few weeks an issue when i turn screen on with power button. It randomly, but many times a day, turns on and then immediately off after 1st press. All is ok on 2nd press.
I use ICS 4.0.3 LPG stock rom and kernel. Only Jkay framework. I tried to uninstall Jkay and restore screen libraries, but problem persists.
Anyone has this issue? Can it be an early symptom of power button getting bad?

Hi,
I upgraded my SGS2 ICS 4.0.3 version to 4.0.4 version using Samsung Kies. All are successful during upgrades.
But when I use my phone and observe it, i have some issues encountered, like:
1. My phone suddenly switches off even if i have more battery power in notifications bar. This always happen especially when using internet/wifi,like using Facebook,Twitter,Google play ans installing apps.
2. The swipe to adjust brightness at the notifications bar is gone.
3. The Message notification in icon sucks. If we have new message like, one message receive,we see 1 in the SMS icon, right? but in 4.0.4, even if i already read the message, the 1 still appears. and took couple of minutes to gone. This sucks
4. Returning to home, pressing the home button or back button,is lagging.
I got mad with this new update. SO, i downgrade again to 4.0.3 version. I downloaded 4.0.3 firmware and install it using Odin 1.85. The installation was successful. I have again 4.0.3.
Issues i have listed above are gone,BUT,except for my phone suddenly switches off. Still my phone switches of esp using wifi and with some apps that uses internet...even if my battery in notification bar is high.
Does anyone of you encounter this one too? especially in Philippines?

I think that it is nothing special to your region, as I heard similar reports of German users too.
Try to wipe cache ... and if you have CWM recovery, wipe Dalvik cache as well.
Then you can fix permissions and reboot.
Maybe this can help.
If the issue still exists, try to catch last kernel message file directly on first reboot after a crash (After your phone reboots, grab last_kmsg from /proc folder).
Search for last_kmsg for how to get this file, then have a look at it (or post it again) to see what hapened just before the system crashed.
Maybe it is always the same app causing the system crash.
Good luck !
Yeah best is to do a wipe and flash back to 4.0.4. For me from DXLPA 4.0.3 to DXLPF 4.0.4 the phone felt a lot faster and battery was also better .
So here is what i recommend (This is for Philippines (Globe)) (This will make you lose all your apps) :
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Place file in externel SDcard
3. Boot into stock recovery (Press Home + Power + Vol Up) when phone is off
4. Flash the file you got from the recovery
5. When in new recovery do a factory reset
6. Turn phone off
7. Boot in download mode (Press Home + Power + Vol Down) when phone is off
8. Flash this firmware http://www.hotfile.com/dl/177331703/932e573/I9100DXLPF_I9100OLBLPF_GLB.zip.html
When all is done i hope your phone is ok again...
Or....
Bring to samsung service center and tell them about the issues

hi. is this the stock firmware of ICS 4.0.4 for the region? thanks.
I've been running the latest Revolt ROM for a few days on my I717. It has been running flawlessly but last night my display started staying on and the notification lights lit and won't turn off. Pushing the power button doesn't turn the screen off like it used to, but the power button does work to turn off or reboot the phone. I've checked all the settings that I know of and everything seems fine. Any ideas? Needless to say, my phone has to stay plugged in to a power source to stay on.
Rebooting doesn't clear the problem. Screen doesn't lock either.
Wipe caches in recovery
If problem persists, wipe data/factory reset.
Still there, redownload, rewipe and then flash the Rom again.

Wiping cache didn't fix the problem. If I have to re-flash the ROM, it won't be until tonight. Thanks for the help.
Also make sure you don't have stay awake in the quick setting tiles on I accidentally leave mine on sometimes.
mine just started doing that also, did factory reset... I go to battery it reads its charging, when its not..

here's my problem,
my phone keeps on restarting whenever i reboot it.
ive tried full wipe, wipe partition and wipe dalvik cache.
ive also tried flashing custom rom via cwm and stock rom in odin which is I9100XWLS8_I9100FOPLS3_FOP
in cwm, power button isn't working..
when trying to choose a zip file, pressing power button
isn't working but touch function works well.
in odin just flashed stock rom this morning, but when it tries to boot, same problem occurs, it keeps on restarting..
i hope someone could help me ..
What you have, is a bootloop, which occurs when you don't do a full wipe before flashing a new rom..
And maybe the cwm you use doesn't support the clicking of the power button..

Maybe POWER button is faulty.Try to flash DorimanX Kernel.
i have manage to boot my phone,
turn on phone, while booting, i have to hard press the upper button of powermenu.
when it booted, i try to lock my phone (screen off) using powermenu and it wont work. powermenu option didnt showed up too..
but when i tried to screen off using the icon in dropdown toggle, it works fine.
yesterday after work i went to a technician, he said nothings wrong with it, and the only problem is the program.
but i already flashed it in stock rom and custom roms, i did full wiping to flash a clean rom.
this morning, i was thinking that the problem was the efs folder, but when i look into the efs folder in root system there it was.
i hope someone will help me..
When in recovery try the menu button.

pressing home button works fine too.. the only problem is the power button key, ive tried a keytest and it dont really work.
Does it work as normal. If you push power will it turn screen of and on? You could use twrp as It dont use buttons edit: I read power button dont work at all?? Go to a better tec.
Also that efs bit is lock screen not power button. If it was gone it would still turn screen on and off and work just no lock screen:thumbup:

Has anyone else experienced an issue with ROM, when you wake up the screen it doesn't turn on. It has happened to me a few times now, once I was trying to power the phone down using the power button. I held it for approx 5 sec and then the screen turned back on, but most of the times I have to pull out the battery and put it back in
My current kernel is dorimanx v9.32
I didn't do any tweaks, I just flashed the kernel and ROM and left it at that.
Does anyone know a solution for this problem? Thanks in advance

Fresh install. Format data, system and cache and preload then flash ROM/gapps.
Got the phone with rebooting problem: it got the rebooting after updated. The device restarted during Android app optimization stage so I just unblock with the AT&T stock file (pda-odin-att-stock.tar) after that the phone can boot up fine the problem still. It works but continuing reboot every 2 minutes. I tried to clear the cache, test redbend fota... but nothing works
Anyone has idea?

First of all sorry about my English. I wish I can do better.
I got the phone with the rebooting and base on the owner of the phone he said it started rebooting after an update.
Not sure what was of update to but the phone I got always rebooting during Android app optimization stage ( when it updating about 90 files or so) but it got reboot when updating to the file of 57th (So it was not actually working)
I watched and followed the youtube (how to unblock/unbrick galaxy i717) which it used the pda-odin-att-stock.tar file with the ODIN3 V1.85 (I guess that original ROM of AT&T (android version 2.3)
After successful unblock/unbrick the phone the phone actual worked but the problem still. It works but only 2 minutes and the phone reboots.
2/ test redbend fota is one the options you can choose after hard booting the phone using both up - down keys and power key (other options are to clear the cache, or wipe the data..)
That actually happened to me while testing out Bean Stalk(which btw AWESOME ROM). It would do a Random Reboot and continuously do that every 2 minutes or so. The way I fixed it was by doing the following steps:
1) Power off your phone. If unable to power off, remove and reinsert the battery.
2 )Press and hold between both Volume keys and the Power key at the same time until the phone vibrates, then release ONLY the Power key.
3)Continue holding the Volume keys until Samsung appears on the screen. Then release both volume keys.
The recovery menu will display.
4) Press Volume down to move to option 3, Wipe data/factory reset, and then press the Home key to accept.
5) Use Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate in the menu and select Yes- Delete all user data.
6)Navigate to highlight OK and press the Home key to select.
7) Select Reboot system now.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING INSIDE YOUR SD CARD AS WELL! SO DO A BACKUP BEFORE ERASING EVERYTHING!

Could it be a battery issue? I mean if its not software, it might be hardware. Please check if the battery is fine? If you could elaborate the steps you took or the update process you followed, that would be great.
Don't worry we will definitely figure this out, i know how sad it can be when you are without your phone.

No. Surely it is not about the battery. Battery is full and hold the charge pretty well. As I mentioned I was re-installed the original ROM of the phone and there was nothing much to say about this procedure. After reinstalled the original rom the phone works but the problems is still same (rebooting after 2 minutes), before the the phone didn't work and just was in the updating stage but I guess the time of the updating file was also about 2 minutes.
I believe this is about the software than the hardware issue. I am thinking that I may want to install the newest ROM to see it will work or not but I am in the middle of some works right now and have no time for it. So I am just wait to see if there is anyone had similar issue and follow their instruction. Thank you you all.
I am sure you either have hardware issue or in most circumstances it is a user issue.
Is there any possibility you have not read everything or something you are not understanding?
Those of us responding do so because our methods are tried and true. Nobody else is having this issue.
I just ask is it possible?
Have you confidently tried all suggestions with no shortcuts? Even the smallest deviation can lead to the biggest problems

Here is a suggestion:
Please go to stock rom. After Odin restarts the phone...do not touch. Let the phone sit there for a little bit. Then if it restarts u might need to format your internal sd card after formatting system, data, cache and then install rom.
I had to flash it
