Hi, all.
I have run into something today with my AT&T Note that I haven't seen before. Quite a bit of searching found me this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30229221
The icon I'm seeing is exactly as described in that thread, but the fix for the Galaxy S III is not applicable to the Note.
AT&T, ICS 4.0.4 official, not rooted or modded in any way. No new applications installed today.
Does anyone have any insight?
For those that don't want to read the other thread (I wish you would though): The left-most position of the status bar now has an icon that resembles a solid square with a dash in it. The left edge is "pulled out" to the left forming a sort of arrow point of the left edge. It's white in color (maybe light gray?).
Pulling the status bar down to see the notifications shows nothing associated with that icon (it isn't in the list). If anyone at least knows what the phone is trying to tell me, that would be a start...
Some running app?
I should have posted that there are no active applications on the device, the icon doesn't match that of any installed application, and I don't see any running processes that aren't really for the "system" itself. On the Galaxy S III, the icon apparently is an indication that notifications are turned off. What does that *mean*? Is there a corresponding "state" on the Note?
I'm getting beeps and chimes and icons in the status bar for things like email and text messages... So, it wouldn't SEEM to be that.

Perhaps a screenshot so we could see what exactly you're describing? As I have no clue from your description.
It may have something to do with a downloaded app. Did you try to click on it?

This is why I asked folks to read the other post...
It is NOT clickable. It's a white square with the left edge "pulled" out to a point. There's a dash in the middle. If you look at the AT&T user manual, you will see the EXACT SQUARE I am describing, but it has a PLUS inside. That square is a "too many notifications to show" icon. This is slightly different.
Is it there when you have other notifications? It could mean you have none

I read the post and made no sense to me why you'd have that issue on the Note, hence me asking for a screenshot. Perhaps you need to check out AirPush Detector or Airblocker to see if maybe something is accessing permissions unseen. Just a thought.

Here's a slight update...
I rebooted the phone and it hasn't come back since in this form. I *have* seen the "there are more notifications than can be displayed right now" icon (white square, pointed left edge, plus sign in the middle) a few times. But this one (exact same except minus sign instead of plus) has not come back.

I actually tried them first... They have no clue and didn't even offer up the fact that there is an almost identical one indicating too many notifications. Then, when I asked for information to contact Samsung, they said they would text me the phone number (I asked them to). The rep was nice enough to text me my own phone number.

Do either of y'all know who contact about this (preferably a link to support)? At first I thought it was Accuweather but they just provide the information.
umm its just a bug its an Asus widget...if you call them they might just laugh at you, this is the least of their worries at the moment lol, a simple bug report will do. ([email protected] maybe?) My guess is its fixed on the next update.

WRONG - they will remove the weather widget from the specs
telling you it was not meant to be a real weather widget - like the purpose built weather widgets
-seriously though ASUS - can you see what you have done to mine and others opinion of you as a company - ?
I would submit a ticket to have this corrected. On mine - I live in a place called Mount Hermon - and my tablet proudly displays

Even if the full name of your town were displayed, it would still look like advice from a Jamaican sex therapist!
I live in Bangor... nobody would ever mispronounce the name of this fair city for a few cheap laughs! I must be picking up a signal from across the river, because it thinks I'm in Brewer most of the time.
Seriously, though, I have the %% thing too, and it's mildly annoying.

I've submitted the issue to Asus. However, I hope they don't work to hard on fixing it as I'd rather them work on fixing my random reboots (not too common, maybe one every couple of days).
This seems to have been fixed in 9.4.2.15, although it could have been fixed in .14, was only on it for about a week and don't specifically recall whether % or %% was displayed during that time.
Hey guys,
I've had this one since release and had to do sober the phone warranty exchange due to degrading battery
I have a skid mark on thebottom right coroner. Yes, it's on top of the corner just smoothed it out or rounded it a bit. I was wondering if this will get a $690 fee imposed.
It's also S-Off.
Against company policy, instead of giving me silver like my current phone she asked which one I wanted and i said black.
Would they impose a fee for this, if so can I get it overturned?
I was thinking I would RUU it and I'd be fine.
Anyone who's been thorough this or heard of it let me know. Thanks.

Not sure about the skid mark on the bottom corner but my original black one had issues with freezing randomly so when I called for an exchange they had none in stock so they shipped me a silver one. This was over 3 months ago and they haven't charged me anything even though the color change is against company policy but as long as they initiate it you shouldn't have an issue. However not sure what they will say about the skid mark and say that is physical damage.
I replaced mine for a bad speaker. They asked if any cosmetic damage, mine had none at the time except a small scratch on the power button/IR window. I know they are inspected when returned, but have no idea how picky they will be or how good that "inspection" really is. Probably depends on the inspector you get that day. :fingers-crossed:
Question: Mine is rooted, running a leaked ATT ROM and when you boot it, the red warning pops up from HTC. Would that be an issue for a warranty replacement? How would I rectify that?
Relock the bootloader and flash it with an RUU and you'll be fine.
Is there a guide anywhere for doing so?
fastboot oem lock, run RUU from HTC, done. A lot of people get it wrong, you are not "flashing' a RUU, the RUU is a "Rom Update Utility" stand alone package.
Just an FYI. If your doing a warranty exchange and they transfer to the warranty dept. They will make you download an apk for you to install. This apk let's them look at your system. It first freaked me out cause I was on a full convert GPe. But they didn't say anything about it and went ahead with the exchange. Still a little bit unnerving when they say "please download the apk with the link I'm sending. This will allow me to take a look at your system except for videos or pictures"

Warranty Replacement Woes
I called up the warranty department to get my phone replaced, due to the camera. They did the same ninja snoop APK file (which I still have) but I was smart and put the bootloader/firmware back to out of box state, so I wasn't worried. Weird, though. I don't know what they wanted by doing that.
Anyway, I got the replacement unit in 2 days, which was nice. The warranty department said I won't be able to tell the difference between a new phone and a "Certified reconditioned" phone. PSSH...
The screen of the replacement model wasn't as bright and had a yellowish cast to it, compared to my other phone, which I was not happy with. The top speaker also crackled when you play any sound through it. I called them back and they are now sending me yet another one. It's nice that they are trying, but I'm not going to trade one problem for another.
The one they did send out to me had a night/day difference with the camera though. I held both of them up to take a picture of my Christmas tree. Side by side, the screen of my old one was purple and the new one was nice.
I just wish I can get this whole thing sorted out

I had a similar experience at my local Device Support Center location. The "like-new" refurbished phone they wanted to give me had chips and dents in one corner of the bumper/aluminum bezel, over a dozen swirled scratches in the screen, and two very deep scratches in the screen that clearly made it to the digitizer. The polyurethane bumper was also really greasy and worn out. It was conveniently the only one they had in stock. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty offended that they tried to pawn it off on me.

Oh man...Yeah, nothing like that with this one. I mean, cosmetically, the replacement was better than mine!! I had a GAP-GATE phone, but just dealt with it because whatever. The screen and the audio would have bothered me more than a defective camera.
Got replacement no. 2 from FedEx...it's worse than my current model! Third time is the charm, I hope. Their standards suck! I seriously put the three phones side by side on full brightness and each display was seriously a different color. Wtf...my original has a blue cast to it, replacement 1 was yellow, and replacement 2 was purple.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Sorry to hear that. There's a thread somewhere in the HTC One subforum (non-AT&T forum) that talks about the three different screens used in the phone based on its manufacture plant; it sounds like you've had a go at all three.
I too am now having a replacement One shipped to me via AT&T. I'm praying it shows up problem-free, but after the ridiculousness of the Device Support Center trying to give me a replacement that looked as if it fell off the roof of a moving car, I'm not holding my breath.
Oh! They had me run the "snoop APK" as well... except it kept crashing on my One. I'm not sure if I should suspect the fact that I was running the official GPe RUU upgraded OTA to 4.4 or not. Thankfully, the guy I was talking to was a nice guy, and after 4 or 5 attempts to run the APK without crashing, he went ahead and pushed the warranty claim anyway.
I wouldn't recommend anyone else trying to use this "excuse" though, since he could tell I was legitimately trying to launch the app each time. It would just crash during authentication, after he had made a connection to my device.

Hello good folks, was hopping somebody can help me here.
I have been using htc phones for years, I mean like 10 years almost.
long story short, just got a One max and I'm having an issue with the smilies when receiving text messages. For some reason when the wife sends me smilies in text, they don't show up as the image/smilies, they show up as just text, so that I'm clear, for example if you sent me this smile , it would show up as the text "", is there a setting some where I'm missing?
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the htc one, I came from the htc rezound (old as heck) and I have more features on that phone then I do on this one
I thank you all for your time and help.

What phone does she have? I've noticed that sometimes it depends on who is texting. As per the more features on the rezound you are gravely mistaken... Having owned both phones that's like saying dial-up is better than Fios... If the texting issue is that big of a deal probably best to leave android because you can find a more catered experience elsewhere...

she has the samsung note 3.
Of course the one max is newer and it has a newer operating system and etc however some good features are missing.
on rezound I have the home screen in the middle and then 3 other screens on each side I can swipe to, for a total of 7 home screens.
On one max without the feed screen you have a total of 5 screens, home in the middle and 2 on each side.
on rezound I can go around the home screens in a circle, on the one max once you go one way you have to back track to get to the opposite side.
on the rezound I have a "people widget" that shows the person and then right next to it the latest text/mail communications of that person, this was a great widget that allowed me to look at each of my favorites and allow me to see their communication by just a glance, One max does not have that anymore it just has the default people widget that just shows the person, you can't see test or anything right there.
I can go with a few more useful/time saving features that are not there, like the lock screen and its apps for example and there is lots more.
So when I say it was better I mean it in that sense, maybe you can do the things I mentioned and I just can't figure it out but I'm 99% sure you can't.
Yes the One max has some good abilities over the rezound like the size for example, and other things, but some of the things I mentioned make no sense to me why they are gone making One max not as easy to use as rezound when it came to some features.
Ok so you are saying that it depends on what kind of a phone I'm getting text from? I'm not good in that area and like to say it does not matter, but if you know for a fact it does, then I guess it does. Thank you for your response and time.

After re-reading my post I think I came across as arrogant. I apologize for that. With most of what you said is true though most didn't want them but they work for you and that works for you. In this specific case you might be better to go back to the rezound. They eliminated most of those features for a reason to them and I don't think they'd bring them back. Certain roms do include the unlimited scrolling for homescreens though that's about it. I'm not a big eye candy person myself. Considering how modern her phone is that sounds really weird. Do you use normal texts or hangouts? You both want to try hangouts and see if that works for you.

Thanks cstrife999,
we use normal texts and I was able to figure it out.
here is what it was:
on her note 3 she has 2 different sections for smilies, there is the default one we are all used to ( the one under the menu options under "insert smilies"), and then there is another section for smilies that has all the ones we have on the max, this other one you get to by holding the voice key down till you get a menu for 5 objects one being the second set of smilies.
Now the default ones are just the basic ones and only droid smilies, these are the ones that appear as text no matter what, however once we go to the second set of smilies as mentioned above all the smilies showed up on the texts as smilies.
Problems solved.
I like to thank you all for your time/help and responses.:highfive:

Well that de-escalated quickly!
Smart idea considering the concern with airports, etc.
If it's just a fw anyone can flash it on defected devices unless they manage to check imei when flashing with odin...
Hope they add a toggle switch for that green icon. It's really ugly.

I am so pissed, I have created a petition to ask Samsung to add an option to disable the ugly green icon. Please sign it and I hope we can make a change!
https://www.openpetition.eu/hu/petition/online/samsung-note-7-green-battery-icon
I like the green icon, I have used xposed before to change colors in several icons, so, green batt is fine for me
I wild of loved a blue battery.
Hopefully they will give us the option to change it back. Heck they already give us enough useless feathers, please give us one we could actually benefit from.

Why are people so pissed about something that hasn't happened yet. if it happens will probably be temporary.
Not to mention in the short term it's a good way to check it for places that's banning it. Like airport's etc

It did, my new one has the green icon..
At first I didn't think much of it, but the more I see it, the more I think it's actually pretty hideous.
Btw, I don't know about the themes, haven't really checked that out, I'm using Nova Launcher and it's just green in that.
Please try changing the theme if it's always green in AOD?
Why didn't they patch the bad note 7's with a red battery to identify the bad ones instead? Dumb
The battery stays green no matter what theme you apply.
It wouldn't make sense to make it so easy to change as the whole point is to make it easy to identify a safe product and none safe product, and if it was easy to change no one will believe you have a safe device etc.

Tested or just speculations? For whome I have to prove that device is safe? This is just stupid... Personally AOD is ruined for me, an that green battery icon will annoy me everyday. Was not planing on rooting but now star to think I will need to. Damn Samsung they overdid it... a simple message in about phone would solved all airport problems. Now we will have a ruined status bar and AOD... GOOD JOB SAMMY! The only problem is that there is no phone like N7 atm and I can't move on ?

Airlines?
I am willing to bet when we get the 7.0 update, by that time us Sammy ( and the CPC, Health canada etc) are satisfied the old devices are handed in the battery icon goes back.
Relax, I'm willing to bet $$$ this is a temporary measure.

Tested. I've had my replacement device since 12th September and received the update yesterday.
I've tried three different themes and on all of them the battery remains green.
I don't see what the massive issue is with it. Yes it isn't white like the rest but does it fundamentally change the phone? No.
If you don't like it and it makes such a big difference for you then maybe the device isn't for you.
Yes I woke up this morning to a message that my device had update... and now have the green icon. I mind it less then I thought I would.
Hi all,
The attached video demonstrates this best. When the notification menu is down and I want to scroll, it snaps back to the top unless you are scrolled so much into your notifications.
I absolutely hate this and want to be able to scroll and have it just hold wherever I'm at.
Never had this happen on other Android phones that I can remember.
Contacted Samsung and you can see their response also attached. Don't think they understood what I said (part of why I included the video to them as well).
Thanks for any thoughts on this!

hmmm mine doesn't snap back to the top. you should report it via samsung member app if you're still having the issue.

Man, even more infuriating that it doesn't happen to you, ha!
If you check out the included screen cap above, it's from when I reported it and they basically said tough nuts.
