So you want to flash Vasishta Reddy's CM9 ROM, ok so you are already on UL bootloader and rooted too, and I guess you are already on .71 baseband? now just follow below steps,
flash latest FXP kernel using flashtool, it will also install cwm recovery to your phone. once done flash ROM, launcher, gapps and addons.
Here is more detailed guide, but make sure you choose latest fxp kernel.
The xperia S ics ROM. Its on the link I gave. Both I've already installed it using flashtool. I can now reboot it into recovery mode. And I have checked using S1tool and there is the small letter 'r' in "S1 ERROM VER" code part. Am I correct?

Hi!
My question is even worse. Is there a fully newbie tutorial for installing that ICS on X10?? I'm new in all that but I started reading and watching tutorials and I'm getting more and more confused after every tutorial.
I get this part: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10879507#post10879507 (great tutorial, just what I need) but after that I'm confused... It says 1)FLASH THE LATEST CM9 FXP KERNEL and there I'm confused. Where to find it and how to flash it? The same as SE Firmware in above tutorial, using Flashtool?
2)MAKE A FULL WIPE
3)FLASH THE ROM
This thing I understand. I flash the ROM just like kernel before.
4)FLASH XPERIA HOME ,GAPPS AND REBOOT ,LET THE ROM SETTLE AGAIN REBOOT TO RECOVERY
5) FINALLY FLASH ADDON PACK
So this flash is a thing that confuses me.
Thank you and sorry for such a newbie questions.
Well the kernel you must flash using the flashtool. You can get the kernel here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29001053. The rom, home, gapps and addon you must flash it using CWM via install .zip files. The guide is actually simple if you once understand

Thanks! Since FXP135's download link is broken, I will use Amin Cm9-P6005 as Kernel. Just one question: from the tutorial about flashing, there is only one SE Firmware 3.0.1 UK version, but somewhere I found it more. Is it important or not? I'm from Croatia (Europe) so will there be some problems?
EDIT: nvm, root and installing xrecovery was successful I just installed audio stuttering fix for now, and I will flash kernel and ICS when I get my backup phone. Thanks once again
Now I see that there is "video recording" and also "8mpx" under BUGS. What does it mean!?? I use camera almost every day so video recording and taking pictures with 8 Mpx is must-have. I use Vignette to take pictures and stock SE's app for recording video.
And I saw in Amin's kernel that wi-fi sometimes doesn't work. Wi-fi and tethering (hotspot) are also a must-have options. Please confirm that these bugs are still active because I will give up from this ROM if it's right.
If not, I will flash it today, or these days. And I saw something about baseband but I don't understand. I rooted the phone and installed CWM and now can I just flash Amin's kernel, do a full wipe and then install home, gapps and addon?

I'm currently running stock 2.3.3 from SE (through Rogers in Canada) with baseband 2.1.71 (rooted since it was released)
I planned on installing CM7 on my phone so I decided to unlock my bootloader so that it is ready when I eventually do so. I used FlashTool 0.6.7.0 to unlock it and it ran without any problems.
However I'm unable to turn Wi-Fi on. It only says "Error" and I'm not too sure what's wrong. I tried searching for answers but others with same issues were using custom ROMs while I'm still on stock.
Anyone know what I can do to fix this? If you're missing any information to be able to help me, please let me know and I will post them. (I have about a week to fix this as I'll be leaving on vacation and I'll need wifi working)
Thanks!
If you have really opened bootloader, for such device special kernels are necessary (stock or custom). Flash by FlashTool one of such ftf-kernels, then install with utility xRecovery the module wi-fi for this kernel.
The author of each ROM recommends, what kernels to use and gives the link on downloading.
just look for the kernel tht is meant for unlocked bootloader tht should work with stock rom n then flash kernel via flashtool n wifi modules file through xrecovery ur wifi will work
Which kernel u using? U prob need the relevant WiFi modules.

can we install custom roms like wolfxperia's rom & cyno roms in x10 by using flashtool??
ulbldoom was not for locked bootloaders...you got wrong version my friend
Sent from my X10S using xda premium
Yes it appears ur bootloader is locked that is for unlocked bl so wont work. U can install xrec manually but it much easier to use flashtool. Use seus or flash global generic 2.3.3 then root and install xrec
Sent from my X10 using XDA
Try This
Restore your phone via SEUS, then do a complete Root, Bootloader unlock via Flashtool,
Unlocking bootloader will help you a lot, for many custom ROM's you'll require an unlocked bootloader so do that using the flashtool aswell.
Install xRecovery via flashtool (easiest way there is), you can install it manually but it tends to be a bit of a headache !!

same issue
Ive had the same issue only a few days ago where i was afraid i nearly screwed up my phone. I kept ready the forums here tho, and came to the conclusion that
a I used an "outdated" flashtool, and
b I used the wrong kernel file before i flashed... and
c (yes this was beyond stupid) i forgot to put the zip file onto the sd card... so when i was going to flash i didnt have anything to flash.
after that my baby kept still at the SonyEriccson screen.
I got the latest flashtool, flashed the Generic 2.3.3 and restarted from scratch.
I now have the Darkedition 1.5 installed. It looks really nice, but its just not my rom, so i will keep looking for a new rom. I'd like a smooth and sleak rom. just to keep it fast and furious.
i still love my phone, even after having it for over a year... something that's never happened to me before.

I tried to download the apk externally, didnt make a difference. I didnt see any other google apps? might the problem lie in a missing google framework? or missing other google apps? I havent had much time to spend reading into the issue, but hopefully tonight i can find out some more. meanwhile... any help is appreciated.

Hi
I have tried all day to install ICS on my Neo V, and I always end up in a boot loop (after the XPERIA logo it restarts). I have tried KA06 ICS and another Sony based ICS ROM.
I'm pretty new to this and I'm not sure what info you need so please ask away.
One thing I noticed is that whenever I clear the dalvic-cache it gives an error (not mounted or something i think?)

I think I may have found the battery life problem. Looking at the battery usage under settings, the gallery app shows by far the most battery usage. When I go to apps and find gallery I see it's running a service called picassa sync. Disabling picassa sync on all the Google accounts and then force closing the gallery app seems to fix the battery usage. Can some other people please try it and confirm if it works?
After doing this the cpu time and amount of the battery used by the gallery app does not get any higher, even if I make sure the gallery is running again and it moves down the list and the highest battery usage becomes the screen.

Dear reader,
I've currently been using Cyanomod for 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and everything (which took a little while )
Everything is running perfectly fine, but i would like to update my phone to android 4.0+ (whatever the lastest compatible version might be)
How should i go about this?
Do i basically uninstall everything and start from scratch or is there an easy method to quickly update my phone to android 4.
Kind Regards and Thank you for your time!
I believe the answer us first to backup your apps with titanium backup if you need them. Then go to recovery and backup your current Rom. (always be sure to do this). from recovery wipe factory reset and dalvik cache. Then install your new Rom from zip.
You cannot install an android 4.0 + over another version. Always backup and wipe.

Rom's are pre rooted (expect stock, stock BASED roms ARE pre-rooted), once you've installed the rom through cwm, it will be rooted and ready.

If your finding trouble with compatible roms are you saying your getting bootloops when trying them?, because a different Android Version requires a different kernel, So if you haven't or forget to flash the kernel recommended or provided then that would possibly be where your compatibility issues lye as you will get bootloops if you don't and you are changing version. As Mikii suggested earlier.

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). When i look up Cyano 9.1 FXP 138, i get a list of downloads. FXP138-cm-9-20120916-UNOFFICIAL-haida.zip , FXP138-cm-9-20120916-UNOFFICIAL-mango.zip
What exactly are they and which one should i go for?

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). I'll have to figure out how to flash kernels again. Gonna check around the forums to see if i can find a suitable thread.
Thanks so much

The fastest way to flash a kernel is to use the program called flashtool, click on the lightening bolt, select Fastboot mode, then select kernel to flash find the kernel you want to flash and it should be done within literally 2 seconds. once Flashtool gives you the all clear, disconnect your phone from usb, restart phone, and there you go, the old kernel will be overwritten, and so will that kernel's cwm version, with the one from the new kernel.
Try FXP138

Hey,
Everything is installed and running, however i am wondering about just one thing.
Whenever i reboot my phone i get, right after imputting my sim code, a Unlock Network SIM message.
What is this and how can i solve it?
Regards,
(oops just realized i made a double post, apologies!)
Well, actually I'm using a custom rom, based on GB, because I've been having the same problem with EVERY ROM based on ICS (Stock or Custom).
I honestly don't know why does it happen, my problem is... Every time I've tried an ICS-based Rom, my WiFi disconnects itself all the time. It goes out and comes back after a few seconds every time it wants to, and it doesn't matter at all how far or near I am of my router.
I never had that problem with Gingerbread. Is it a problem with DNS, IP or something like that? Can I just use an app to fix that?
At least I would like to know what happens, thanks everybody in advance!

Maybe change your wlan to b/g and not b/g/n, that had solved it for me
Had your bootloader unlocked? What kernel are you using?
Sent from my smultron using xda app-developers app
eltonpestana: Is it possible to change the baseband in this phone?
mihahn: My WiFi is already in b/g mode /:
gouthamthemostwanted: My bootloader doesn't allow unlocking, so I am using the stock Kernel -.-
If you are using the stock kernel are you sure you flash ics kernel prior flashing the ics Rom?
If you flash ics kernel.sin using flashtool and still experience problems on WiFi then go through the updater-script of the Rom and make sure permissions are set right and this symlink is present
symlink("/data/etc/wifi/wl1271-nvs.bin","/system/etc/firmware/ti-connectivity/wl1271-nvs.bin");
I use rage kernel and removing this symlink from updater-script made my WiFi not to work . I don't know whether will it work with stock ics kernel but it's worth a shot.

Ok, I'll be honest with you. I don't know what the updater-script is, and I never tried to flash a kernel because my bootloader is still locked
I think the problem is on your router. Change the channel and mode and also disable the wireless security. See what happen......

To flash the stock Sony kernel you don't need a unlocked bootloader . If you don't flash ics kernel for ics Rom I'm sure it won't work properly. I won't even boot properly in the first place.
Below is the stock ics firmware for st15i
http://www.mediafire.com/?wot47vumhstlc4h
Flash the above mentioned ics firmware using flashtool before flashing any ics Rom.
I hope you know what a flashtool is and how to flash your device using it.

Flash back on gingerbread and see if wifi is working well. If yes, you know it's not related to your router.
It's a known problem on ics by sony that wifi isn't working well, but there's no working fix as far as I know...

Yeah... I know what flashtool is, I have used it too many times. But I never heard about flashing the stock kernel, I thought the kernel was automatically updated when you install the ICS tft. I'll try it anyway.

Actually, as I said, in GB I never had that problem, and I don't know what to do yet.
Maybe this can help...
Here are the updater-script files of the ROM's that I have recently used.
If there's something incompatible with my phone or if there's something I can do with them to fix the problem, I'd be glad to know it
I'll let you know man . I'll go through them . It's 12 in the morning here
Sent from my smultron
Haha it's ok, take your time. Thank you
I just skimmed through both the updater-scripts and I don't find anything wrong there. What ftf file you used for ics? Is it regional customization or world customization?
