So I went out the other night with some friends, and we were taking some pictures of the band playing with our phone.
Me: Evo 3D
Then: Iphone (?)
Not matter how hard I tried I was not able to get as good of images as they were, is there anything we can do to fix this?
Since you say you were taking pictures of a band, I would assume that it was low lighting with effects lighting? If so, the iphone is the ONLY phone that will take decent pictures in that condition.
Take a look through this ...

The difference is in the physical hardware. The iphone's camera is capable of f/2.0 I believe. The lower this is, the more light is getting through. The htc amaze and one series phones are the only others that I'm aware of that aren't capable of this. Other phones don't advertise their f-stop but I'd imagine it's nowhere near 2.0. Stock dslr lenses are 3.5 at best. There's more to it than this, but that's the gist of it.

I found that the Amaze Camera app would make the phones camera much better. However, it doesn't support ics.

That has sort of been made into coolmod camera mod, but that won't help in low light. That's a physical feature or amaze camera and the others I mentioned

For some reason, HTC went cheap with the 3D cameras on this phone.
They could've easily put in 2 * 8 megapixels..
I guess they wanted to save some money or get rid of some old parts.
Can someone explain what I have experienced. I'll do my best to explain and try to provide a picture.
Sometimes I take a picture out doors and if its too bright out, the picture is very dark. Yet if I take the same picture in 3d mode the picture manages to be 'perfect' in appearance and gives a truer idea of the lighting.
Both pics taken at moments apart. There was no change in the weather (No clouds blocking sun light)
Poor screen shots but for illustration purposes.
3d mode on. This picture seems more vibrant in light...

I noticed something similar to that today and I don't thinks it's a software bug as much as user error. I noticed that if I started with the camera pointing in 1 direction and the auto exposure set, half pressing the shutter button and pointing the camera somewhere else, the auto exposure won't correct itself. By pressing the shutter half way, you lock in the exposure and force focus. This is normal for most other cameras though.
I'm guessing this might be what's going on and you're taking more time to snap 3d pictures which gives your camera an opportunity to set exposure.

Anyone else?
Just got mine and every other issue is non existing except a greenish/yellowish tint with a purple hue around the corners in low level lighting. ( I guess it heats up a bit and there is a microscopic chip missing on the very edge of the cam lens), but other than that, the phone is flawless ......so far....

I've been pondering it, but I've seen so many other people with the green pic issue, that i figured it was widespread, and would end up with another with the same problem anyways. I have no other problems, except the light leakage, as you mentioned. Any other minor bugs I had at first went away after a factory reset or two. Anyone have any idea if the green pic issue is hardware or software related?

I've seen over 10 EVO 3ds (family, friends). Not one of then have a hulk tint to their pics...
I've see about 3 tilted screens
One that has a bad battery driver makeing reboot all the time
And all of them have pretty bad light leakage/bad seal at the bottom..
Kinda makes me wonder who the **** quality checked these phones.. and why they still have a job :/

All depends on the store manager one or two for sure... But they become kinda arrogant after that...
You do have a 1 year manufacturing warranty which you can use multiple times if needed (to get refurbished phones only). By calling sprint and asking to speak with "advanced device exchange/tech department"

If you know how to take a picture they can come out fine.If you adjust the settings to your situation the Evo 3D can take phenomenal photos. Most of the pictures you see are user error more than a crappy camera.
Overall the camera is mediocre. But can take descent photos with the right user and settings.

No, but to be fair I have very steady hands. I shoot a lot of still shots at Auto Shows. I love the camera button vs the onscreen button.

It's not a problem with the button, it's just when I halfway press to focus, and then press fully, I end up just slightly moving the phone due to the movement of the button. (if that makes sense) if I really try hard to hold it still, I can take good photos, but I always get a clear photo from using the touchscreen. So, rather than trying my best to use the button, it's just easier for me to not use it.

Simply because the evo is a higher grade of technology than the swnsation. HTC knows what they r doing. Example, there must have been a reason to stop at 8mp, now every phone company is maxed out at 8mp. Same for 3d, htc puts 2 5 mp camera followed by lg doing the same.

Hmmm I'm actually not very impressed by these samples...They're pretty horrible actually! These pictures even in the bright daylight are VERY noisy, grainy, and blurry.. how can that be? This is supposed to be the best camera phone? I doubt it... Can someone post a pic from the smartshot feature where it takes 5 pics and combines them? I know on Sony camera's this image stacking feature lowers the noise and helps with low light pics.
I haven't played with the camera a whole lot yet, but this is a few minutes after leaving T-Mobile. So completely stock settings. Pretty happy with it.
that....is a pretty damn good camera! i cant wait til phones are rocking like 16 megapixles standard
Wow, I am not amazed. (heh)
These photos look worse than my HD2. I've been needing to upgrade but wow, I think I'm gonna hold off. Other than maybe a faster shutter, my HD2 wipes the floor with the Amaze. Even low light photos of mine have less noise than daylight photos taken with the Amaze. Maybe the GS2 is again where I am headed? So disappointed.
I think the people in this thread don't know how to take a proper photo.

I would have to agree, I haven't been too impressed with the camera on my One. I think it is hard for many/me to look beyond the megapixel count, as it tends to get grainy way sooner than a lot of other higher megapixel cameras on the market. I have liked it in low light however, but not as big of a difference as I had expected. Here are some of my shots.
I've been impressed. My shots above were night shots in Boston, and a really quick macro of a robin's nest. )she has been laying an egg a day).
I think once we get new update, 1.29 photos will improve more.

I can confirm for you guys as a fellow Tmobile user that the camera is MUCH better after the 1.29 update. Currently I'm running Trickdroid 5.2.1 and the camera results seem to be greatly improved over stock Tmobile firmware....
Here's a few shots I took in the last couples of days.
The camera seems good but nothing amazing. The two things that impressed me most was the macro (coaster picture) and very quick shutter speed (the car in that one picture was going at least 30mph and there's no blur at all)

Two of the pictures were compromised by very bright lights that negatively affected the exposure of the rest of the shot. Not very representative, honestly.
I guess I do not see much of a difference between normal (1st) and macro, this was also in relatively low light (still impressive) but I am not completely impressed with macro mode at all, much better on my Amaze.

I agree! Love the pictures, but you can't always be at the perfect distance from your subject... which means I would usually crop my picture afterward. But there is not much cropping I can do with these. I knew this before buying the phone, but it's still disappointing.
But.... coming from the Nexus 4... I am happy for this trade off. I may have been able to zoom and crop, but I was very unhappy with the inconsistent image quality and hated the flash because it was way too bright, in my opinion, and ruined quite a few pictures. I just missed too many moments, because you can't always say "Hold on, let me take another one."
