I wanted to start a thread to showcase how awesome the camera on our HTC One really is
I've had plenty of phones but none like this beast!
As per the rules here on XDA, please keep them PG-13 and nothing that would cause a moderator to close this thread down, PLEASE!!

I would have to agree, I haven't been too impressed with the camera on my One. I think it is hard for many/me to look beyond the megapixel count, as it tends to get grainy way sooner than a lot of other higher megapixel cameras on the market. I have liked it in low light however, but not as big of a difference as I had expected. Here are some of my shots.
I've been impressed. My shots above were night shots in Boston, and a really quick macro of a robin's nest. )she has been laying an egg a day).
I think once we get new update, 1.29 photos will improve more.

I can confirm for you guys as a fellow Tmobile user that the camera is MUCH better after the 1.29 update. Currently I'm running Trickdroid 5.2.1 and the camera results seem to be greatly improved over stock Tmobile firmware....
Here's a few shots I took in the last couples of days.
The camera seems good but nothing amazing. The two things that impressed me most was the macro (coaster picture) and very quick shutter speed (the car in that one picture was going at least 30mph and there's no blur at all)

Two of the pictures were compromised by very bright lights that negatively affected the exposure of the rest of the shot. Not very representative, honestly.
I guess I do not see much of a difference between normal (1st) and macro, this was also in relatively low light (still impressive) but I am not completely impressed with macro mode at all, much better on my Amaze.

I don't know how much this will be compressed through the app but the picture is unedited and the quality is second to none.

These same shots were 90% blackness on a Nexus 4. Low-light is great on this. The last picture shows the drawback... zooming looks horrible.

I agree! Love the pictures, but you can't always be at the perfect distance from your subject... which means I would usually crop my picture afterward. But there is not much cropping I can do with these. I knew this before buying the phone, but it's still disappointing.
But.... coming from the Nexus 4... I am happy for this trade off. I may have been able to zoom and crop, but I was very unhappy with the inconsistent image quality and hated the flash because it was way too bright, in my opinion, and ruined quite a few pictures. I just missed too many moments, because you can't always say "Hold on, let me take another one."

Hi all!! I've heard that evo3d camera isnt as good as for example HTc sensation... I saw some samples and in fact they are not so good is there any way to improve them by software or the quality depends on hardware??
If you know how to take a picture they can come out fine.If you adjust the settings to your situation the Evo 3D can take phenomenal photos. Most of the pictures you see are user error more than a crappy camera.
Overall the camera is mediocre. But can take descent photos with the right user and settings.

I've found when I use the physical camera button on the side, pictures come out crappy. I seem to barely move the phone, and it gets blurry. I have better luck with the button on the touch screen.

No, but to be fair I have very steady hands. I shoot a lot of still shots at Auto Shows. I love the camera button vs the onscreen button.
This may help.

They both work fine. I take pics with the button instead of the screen but it does seem to have a lil shutter lag. Not really any different than any other phone really. I also have a nexus s that does the same.

It's not a problem with the button, it's just when I halfway press to focus, and then press fully, I end up just slightly moving the phone due to the movement of the button. (if that makes sense) if I really try hard to hold it still, I can take good photos, but I always get a clear photo from using the touchscreen. So, rather than trying my best to use the button, it's just easier for me to not use it.

check out the miui version. The camera is awesome. And for night pictures, the miui camera keeps the led on so the sensor can do it's focus.

Simply because the evo is a higher grade of technology than the swnsation. HTC knows what they r doing. Example, there must have been a reason to stop at 8mp, now every phone company is maxed out at 8mp. Same for 3d, htc puts 2 5 mp camera followed by lg doing the same.

Hmmm I'm actually not very impressed by these samples...They're pretty horrible actually! These pictures even in the bright daylight are VERY noisy, grainy, and blurry.. how can that be? This is supposed to be the best camera phone? I doubt it... Can someone post a pic from the smartshot feature where it takes 5 pics and combines them? I know on Sony camera's this image stacking feature lowers the noise and helps with low light pics.
I haven't played with the camera a whole lot yet, but this is a few minutes after leaving T-Mobile. So completely stock settings. Pretty happy with it.
that....is a pretty damn good camera! i cant wait til phones are rocking like 16 megapixles standard
Wow, I am not amazed. (heh)
These photos look worse than my HD2. I've been needing to upgrade but wow, I think I'm gonna hold off. Other than maybe a faster shutter, my HD2 wipes the floor with the Amaze. Even low light photos of mine have less noise than daylight photos taken with the Amaze. Maybe the GS2 is again where I am headed? So disappointed.
I think the people in this thread don't know how to take a proper photo.

Well asking first what type of screens are you used too? I have a Galaxy note and it is far punchier in the green, blue, and red colors. But that's Samsung they over blow their colors. Where on my Galaxy note the whites are blueish and the primes are pure white.
Obviously my notes screen and text is harper being its the same resolution on a 5.3" screen.
I still think my primes colors and screen is good. Maybe post a pic of yours, perhaps yours has a defect.
Reboot and go into performance mode/ out of powersave mode.

In order to get the WP to fit better. You have to save image to gallery. Then go into gallery and select set as WP but pick picspeed to do your cropping.

So I went out the other night with some friends, and we were taking some pictures of the band playing with our phone.
Me: Evo 3D
Then: Iphone (?)
Not matter how hard I tried I was not able to get as good of images as they were, is there anything we can do to fix this?
Since you say you were taking pictures of a band, I would assume that it was low lighting with effects lighting? If so, the iphone is the ONLY phone that will take decent pictures in that condition.

The difference is in the physical hardware. The iphone's camera is capable of f/2.0 I believe. The lower this is, the more light is getting through. The htc amaze and one series phones are the only others that I'm aware of that aren't capable of this. Other phones don't advertise their f-stop but I'd imagine it's nowhere near 2.0. Stock dslr lenses are 3.5 at best. There's more to it than this, but that's the gist of it.

For some reason, HTC went cheap with the 3D cameras on this phone.
They could've easily put in 2 * 8 megapixels..
I guess they wanted to save some money or get rid of some old parts.
Can someone explain what I have experienced. I'll do my best to explain and try to provide a picture.
Sometimes I take a picture out doors and if its too bright out, the picture is very dark. Yet if I take the same picture in 3d mode the picture manages to be 'perfect' in appearance and gives a truer idea of the lighting.
Both pics taken at moments apart. There was no change in the weather (No clouds blocking sun light)
Poor screen shots but for illustration purposes.
3d mode on. This picture seems more vibrant in light...

I noticed something similar to that today and I don't thinks it's a software bug as much as user error. I noticed that if I started with the camera pointing in 1 direction and the auto exposure set, half pressing the shutter button and pointing the camera somewhere else, the auto exposure won't correct itself. By pressing the shutter half way, you lock in the exposure and force focus. This is normal for most other cameras though.
I'm guessing this might be what's going on and you're taking more time to snap 3d pictures which gives your camera an opportunity to set exposure.

I have both, the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy.
The colors are defiantly MUCH more crisp and sharper on the Galaxy.
When I first switched to the Galaxy (from the Nexus, since I switched to Verizon = couldn't use the Nexus) I thought that the Galaxy's screen looked unnatural, compared to the Nexus, since it was so much brighter....
Having used and looked at both side by side, I choose the Galaxy screen.
Cool thanks for the responses guys. Man that screen burn in is horrible! Lol. I guess maybe just the way some of the wallpapers fit must seem different to me. Again love this thing. Not a complaint

Are you using wallpapers that are 1080x1920 or higher? If it is anything lower than that, the images are being upscaled which will cause them to be soft.
you must be on crack.
S4 looks amazing only one that I think is on par with is the DNA. Resolution is the same and ppi is close. I think DNA colors are a little more realistic but both screens are impeccable for a phone!

i can say, though, that touchwiz doesn't set wallpapers as high of quality as the actual image. you can see that the TW wallpaper, when set, is much less sharp, and doesn't show as much full detail as the ACTUAL picture, especially if its an HD pic. that being said, it's not BAD, it's just not as good.
it's how touchwiz sets wallpapers. if you find a wlalpaper in zedge, dl it, apply it, notice how nice it looks....then goto gallery, find that same wallpaper, and apply it via touchwiz's wallpaper selector....it'll be LOWER quality. it just seems that for some reason TW makes the wallpaper quality a bit lower than it really is.
you must be on crack.

it's how touchwiz sets wallpapers. if you find a wlalpaper in zedge, dl it, apply it, notice how nice it looks....then goto gallery, find that same wallpaper, and apply it via touchwiz's wallpaper selector....it'll be LOWER quality. it just seems that for some reason TW makes the wallpaper quality a bit lower than it really is.

problem is, using nova launcher to set a wallpaper or quick pic worked on my s3 to make it higher resolution.... doesn't work on the s4. so it kinda sucks.

Great screen. I could never use anything but an amoled screen anymore. I'm even thinking about selling my N7. After buying this phone every other screen looks like crap.

I was a little disappointed. I find the colors to be unnatural; over-saturated. Many of the websites I've been used to that were red now look orange. Everything looks crisp, but even with the lowest font setting everything is huge. Maybe I just need some adjustment time coming from HTC & Asus.
