What is Evo 3D picture quality?!? - HTC EVO 3D

Hi all!! I've heard that evo3d camera isnt as good as for example HTc sensation... I saw some samples and in fact they are not so good is there any way to improve them by software or the quality depends on hardware??

If you know how to take a picture they can come out fine.If you adjust the settings to your situation the Evo 3D can take phenomenal photos. Most of the pictures you see are user error more than a crappy camera.
Overall the camera is mediocre. But can take descent photos with the right user and settings.

My pics are just fine in daylight. Not very good at night. I see no difference from my og evo tho. 4g pics look great also.

I've found when I use the physical camera button on the side, pictures come out crappy. I seem to barely move the phone, and it gets blurry. I have better luck with the button on the touch screen.

No, but to be fair I have very steady hands. I shoot a lot of still shots at Auto Shows. I love the camera button vs the onscreen button.

This may help.

They both work fine. I take pics with the button instead of the screen but it does seem to have a lil shutter lag. Not really any different than any other phone really. I also have a nexus s that does the same.

It's not a problem with the button, it's just when I halfway press to focus, and then press fully, I end up just slightly moving the phone due to the movement of the button. (if that makes sense) if I really try hard to hold it still, I can take good photos, but I always get a clear photo from using the touchscreen. So, rather than trying my best to use the button, it's just easier for me to not use it.

Wow, after doing some playing with settings (the ones in the link you posted), pictures look amazing now. I moved the sharpness to one, and exposure to negative one. Made a HUGE difference. If anyone hasn't played with the settings, try it out.

So it is a good idea to inform HTC about this problem in auto mode of the camera... Has htc done some updates since the premiere of Evo 3d??

check out the miui version. The camera is awesome. And for night pictures, the miui camera keeps the led on so the sensor can do it's focus.

I've been thinking about removing the protective covering over the lenses to see if I can get better quality pictures. Do you guys think it'll make a noticeable difference?

Why HTC didnt give evo 3d the same cam as sensation:/ look at the comparsion

Simply because the evo is a higher grade of technology than the swnsation. HTC knows what they r doing. Example, there must have been a reason to stop at 8mp, now every phone company is maxed out at 8mp. Same for 3d, htc puts 2 5 mp camera followed by lg doing the same.

For me, it is going to be dependent on how well the feature works. I am not going to miss getting an amazing moment from my daughter because I was screwing around with 3d.
On the other hand, 4th of July fireworks sounds like a good idea in theory, but we will see if it works in practice.
Now the real question is, who is going to start a website where we can share all this 3d goodness.

people have 3DTV's, there's 3D youtube where you choose how to view it (glasses or not), and then there's people who just have 2 working eyes like me
I watch 3D videos on youtube all the time, side by side with left eye on the left, then view it like you would a stereogram (relax eyes until you see 3 videos and focus on the middle one). no glasses and a normal 2D monitor
whos gonna group together all the 3d p0rn and make a site?

HTC EVO 3D Photo Gallery,

Post your pictures here and rate them
If you made any optimizations to the settings, tell them I think many people are eager to know what you did to get such a nice pictures.
Or some people can help you with those settings if your pictures are coming out bad.
Could you please upload it to a website like www.imageshack.us , www.photobucket.com or the alike?
Keeps the picture big if you use direct link + we wont use too much space of XDA and we dont need to manually shrink/cut them.
End result is that we have a nice gallery to look at when we scroll through it.
Well lets start :

[Q] A better camera app?

So I went out the other night with some friends, and we were taking some pictures of the band playing with our phone.
Me: Evo 3D
Then: Iphone (?)
Not matter how hard I tried I was not able to get as good of images as they were, is there anything we can do to fix this?
Since you say you were taking pictures of a band, I would assume that it was low lighting with effects lighting? If so, the iphone is the ONLY phone that will take decent pictures in that condition.
Take a look through this ...

The difference is in the physical hardware. The iphone's camera is capable of f/2.0 I believe. The lower this is, the more light is getting through. The htc amaze and one series phones are the only others that I'm aware of that aren't capable of this. Other phones don't advertise their f-stop but I'd imagine it's nowhere near 2.0. Stock dslr lenses are 3.5 at best. There's more to it than this, but that's the gist of it.

For some reason, HTC went cheap with the 3D cameras on this phone.
They could've easily put in 2 * 8 megapixels..
I guess they wanted to save some money or get rid of some old parts.
Can someone explain what I have experienced. I'll do my best to explain and try to provide a picture.
Sometimes I take a picture out doors and if its too bright out, the picture is very dark. Yet if I take the same picture in 3d mode the picture manages to be 'perfect' in appearance and gives a truer idea of the lighting.
Both pics taken at moments apart. There was no change in the weather (No clouds blocking sun light)
Poor screen shots but for illustration purposes.
3d mode on. This picture seems more vibrant in light...

I noticed something similar to that today and I don't thinks it's a software bug as much as user error. I noticed that if I started with the camera pointing in 1 direction and the auto exposure set, half pressing the shutter button and pointing the camera somewhere else, the auto exposure won't correct itself. By pressing the shutter half way, you lock in the exposure and force focus. This is normal for most other cameras though.
I'm guessing this might be what's going on and you're taking more time to snap 3d pictures which gives your camera an opportunity to set exposure.

I would have to agree, I haven't been too impressed with the camera on my One. I think it is hard for many/me to look beyond the megapixel count, as it tends to get grainy way sooner than a lot of other higher megapixel cameras on the market. I have liked it in low light however, but not as big of a difference as I had expected. Here are some of my shots.
I've been impressed. My shots above were night shots in Boston, and a really quick macro of a robin's nest. )she has been laying an egg a day).
I think once we get new update, 1.29 photos will improve more.

I can confirm for you guys as a fellow Tmobile user that the camera is MUCH better after the 1.29 update. Currently I'm running Trickdroid 5.2.1 and the camera results seem to be greatly improved over stock Tmobile firmware....
Here's a few shots I took in the last couples of days.
The camera seems good but nothing amazing. The two things that impressed me most was the macro (coaster picture) and very quick shutter speed (the car in that one picture was going at least 30mph and there's no blur at all)

I would have to agree, I haven't been too impressed with the camera on my One. Two of the pictures were compromised by very bright lights that negatively affected the exposure of the rest of the shot. Not very representative, honestly.
I guess I do not see much of a difference between normal (1st) and macro, this was also in relatively low light (still impressive) but I am not completely impressed with macro mode at all, much better on my Amaze.

I don't know how much this will be compressed through the app but the picture is unedited and the quality is second to none.

This is macro mode. Even the baby fly on the petal is clear. I actually really like this camera. I have been taking pictures like crazy in different lighting and it has been great!

Love this picture. Turned out great! And that is a cute bunny
These same shots were 90% blackness on a Nexus 4. Low-light is great on this. The last picture shows the drawback... zooming looks horrible.

I agree! Love the pictures, but you can't always be at the perfect distance from your subject... which means I would usually crop my picture afterward. But there is not much cropping I can do with these. I knew this before buying the phone, but it's still disappointing.
But.... coming from the Nexus 4... I am happy for this trade off. I may have been able to zoom and crop, but I was very unhappy with the inconsistent image quality and hated the flash because it was way too bright, in my opinion, and ruined quite a few pictures. I just missed too many moments, because you can't always say "Hold on, let me take another one."
