Just upgraded from CM9 7/12 to 8/14. First time using goo and twrp 2.2. I was aware of the probs at goo so I held off until it appeared they had restored their database. Seemed to take a long time to download the zip file and when I tried to flash the latest it seemed to go through the steps but when I rebooted my TP was still on the old ROM. I went into twrp and flashed the wiped, flashed, and rewiped wtice from there and everything was good to go.
8/14 seems a bit faster and smoother. I am letting it run a few days before trying to see how the battery works versus the July ROM. One thing I wish the CM9 TP could improve on is wifi strength... seems I don't have much "range" (seems well less than when I had WebOS).
I am very interested in trying one of the other ROMS... either ClassicNerd or OAT's CM9.Sounds like OAT's is not only faster/better battery but also may have better wifi? These may seem like dumb questions but I should be able to download direct onto the TP without using my laptop, correct (neither appear to be on goo)? I tried to download OAT's latest onto my laptop but some annoying malware (funmoods) followed along so I am a bit leery to do that again.

Yup, you sure can. You'll find it in XDA_DOWNLOADS if you use the XDA app, or in DOWNLOADS if you are using the browser.

I know this will make me look even dumber, but where do I find XDA_DOWNLOADS in the XDA app (you mean, XDA Premium which is a reader app)? Same question re: DOWNLOADS if I am using a browser?
I can find the first post in the forum under "development" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557111
But that is the one that takes you to a download site where I picked up the funmoods bug. Is there some other place I can download directly to my TouchPad? Thanks again for the help!
You can download to the Touchpad by clicking (selecting) the download link. It will download to your download folder. What I do is then move the file to the root of the sd and install using cwm. I don't use goop or TWRP as I've had problems with both. I find cwm easy to use and pretty fool-proof. I use either es file explorer or file manager HD to move the files. I don't use the xda app, I do it from the website itself.
OATs, worked fine with me. Imo I think it's the best CM9 Rom for the touchpad.
I made some minor changes (changed wallpaper to a simple static design, lowered my screen brightness even further with RootDim), downloaded a few battery related tools (eg Battery Monitor Widget) and will soon download Better Battery Stats. I uninstalled Juice Defender and instead went into Settings to shut off wifi when the screen is off and it plugged in. It has only been a day but battery life seems dramatically better. It looks like I will be getting more than a day moderate use between charges at the rate its going today. I suspect with better data and history derived I should see even better battery performance.
I still want to try OAT's ROM but I'd like to let the 8/14 settle in a bit more.

Unfortunately OAT's rom is discontinued. Its a real shame since it was a good and stable ROM (especially the Linaro builds which were super charged).
Anyone has a mirror of the latest built?? I was holding off upgrade, so I don't have to reinstall the apps. Now all the original mediafire links are offline.

The ROM's thread indicates that OaT requested that those who have it respect his decision and not post them. I actually was also intending to try it just this morning, since OaT responded to one of my questions on another thread and it reminded me that I'd heard good things about his ROM.

As for myself, I'm running UnNamed from gtg and have been for a bit now. I've removed a few additional pieces of software that I didn't want and modified the battery icon but other than that, it's pretty much as is.
I've tested and have a backup of CM 7 and I'm planning to test Cognition next...
I am running UnNamed, I had a circle battery mod, but flashed the full update and have stuck with it as-is. I ran Cognition with no issues or complaints, but wanted the extended power menu.

I'm running Cognition as of yesterday. For a few days before that I was running a stock + root ROM.
I must say, my battery lasts sooooooo much longer since installing Cognition compared to Stock. I just now hit 90% and it's been off the charger (getting regular use: some idle, some web browsing, some pp installs) for about 6 hours now.
I love it.

I'm on Cognition and haven't tried others, yet. It works and as ROMs have appeared, I've pulled what I wanted from them. I get great battery life (3 hours of display time, but lately it's been increasing - yesterday I got 4 and today I'm on pace for over 5 hours of display ). I'm really interested in CM7. I hadn't tried it yet because I'm not convinced that it's bug free (which is important for me). What did you think of it?
I'm getting such poor battery life still, even after rooting and removing data hogs (AP Mobile, etc.), running BBS and CPUSpy to monitor, and turning off unnecessary sync. I'm thinking about moving to Cognition, but I kinda like Touchwiz's interface and the safety of running stock.

I liked CM7. I probably didn't give it enough time to make an accurate assessment of it as I liked the idea of trying UnNamed simply because I like the stock build as it is... minus the garbage bloatware and wanted the extended power menu. I'd highly recommend giving CM7 a shot though. I simply get each rom running and then do a full nandroid backup in case I want to go back in the future - barring any major improvements of course in which case I'll start out fresh.

I have to say that I was never much of a believer in Juice Defender but between running that program and doing a battery calibration with the app, BatteryCalibration, my battery life has increased quite a bit. I've still got Gmail auto syncing but I have turned off 'Back up my data' in Privacy and keep GPS off until I need it. Everything else is running as is. Oh and no Facebook or Words with Friends. I login to Facebook via Dolphin HD when I have to check it on the go.
Running UnNamed 1.0.3 and really like it. Clean, snappy and excellent battery life (yes, better than stock rom).

+1 for UnNamed.... love that rom!
Ive been on cog beta 4 for a while and it is perfect. Picked up DD exp kernal a few days ago and its still perfect. Perfect combo i guess. Battery life is amazing. After 15 hour days i am always getting 4 hours of screen on time along with playing music thoughout the day and few calls and messages data and sync always on.
I have yet to have any problems and gonna make this my offical "go back to, stable rom" when others start to drive me nuts. I would like to just stay on this rom and call it good cause its perfect but that never happens.

Wow.... That sounds impressive. I may need to give that rom a whir then.
I own a Droid 3 but my dad has the x2 and he needs better battery life so I plan on rooting the phone and putting a custom rom on it for him so I wanted to know which rom would be best for him. He uses e mail phone calls and texts a lot and sometimes YouTube videos. If someone could post links for the best suited rom for him along with any scripts that help performance as well as battery that would be great. Also, do I need to install a custom recovery from somewhere else or do I use cwm from rom manager?

Any rom will essentially have better battery life since they are all pretty much stripped down versions of the stock ROM. I suggest eclipse. The speedy script and battery fix script are very highly recommended too.
EDIT: Rom Manager doesnt really work with the Droid X2. So you will need the Bootstrap Recovery in the link I posted.

The battery fix is a must if you want accurate reading. I am running eclipse 1.3 with speedy v7. Also v6 supercharger but that is more for my gaming. And also the mash up v .5 I am getting between 10-14 hrs on a charge and that is pretty heavy use. On my day off I can go between 8 and 10 hrs but that is very heavy use then. Oh ya make sure you wipe battery stats when you flash or calibrate it after.
All are safe to use, which is why they were put in that thread. Just read every threads OP before flashing since they usually have instructions to wipe certain things. And I believe the mash up script tells you to turn wifi off before flashing. Just read and you will be good.

Ive had my best battery life with Eclipse. Ive been pulling 20+ hours with moderate use. Mostly texting, checking some web pages and trolling XDA and Facebook.
Ive also seen an increase from turning off network provided time under date/time in settings.

I can vouch for the turning off of "network provided time"if settings. It seems the phone "sleeps" better when it is idle.
Also another way to ensure better battery life is by getting into the habit of REBOOTING the phone(power off/on) after EVERY TIME you take it off of the charger. There is a thread explaining why this helps ...I just don't feel like looking for it right now sorry lol

Hi,
I installed ViperRez 1.0.3 and I found this rom perfect for me, but the battery life was bad.
So I wanted to test another ROM. When I tested Nil's Business 2.3, I found the battery life was better.
Then I got an idea: Install ViperRom and flash the Nil's Business PH98IMG.zip.
Now, my battery life is doubled and I have no problems
thx will try
i used underclock to 600mhz
to get better battery [screen time] however idle is ok for me

Try cpu monitor widget by coconuts from the market and see how your cpu is working compared to what set cpu says...even using different governors.
check "enable profiles' within setcpu (don't need to set one up, just check the box) and your phone will get faster. For me it enables the 2nd core to be used more frequently, or all the time.
Just sayin...and there's been a ton of stuff written about setcpu, perflock...etc already so no need to rehash.

i did the same thing when i read this thread im running the viperRez rom 1.0.3 with the nils business PH98IMG with s-on and the latest ice cream sandwich firmware leak.. i originilly started this process with my rezound to try and save battery life the way i did with my incredible.. not getting as good of results. i noticed he never replied with a screen shot thought id add mine.. (note: this is my extended 3.7v battery and i removed my it at one point so theres actually three more hours added to the time on battery before it died adn this is light to med use all day) this really is honestly the best combination ive seen for battery life on the rezound.i cant say its doubled..at least personally. if anyone has any other suggestions im open to hear them..

i dont seem to see any kernel in rom manager for down load:/ a couple screen shots on where would be awesome if you have the time..
One major improvement for battery life is customizing Juice Defender. They way I set mine up is as follows:
Enable data for anything that requires data (i.e. browser, market, etc...)
Disable data for anything that doesn't require data (i.e. Launcher, Music, Messages, etc...)
Enable/Screen Off for anything you stream or tether (i.e. TuneIn, Grooveshark, DI, etc...)
What this does is only enable data for anything you actually need data for rather than right after unlocking the screen. Sure you may have to wait a second or two after launching the market before data is enabled, but by the time you're done typing in your search it should be ready to go anyways. Just a couple pennies for anyone trying to max out battery life...
Here is my screenshot.

This kernel is the exact same kernel in Viper 1.0.3. If you're getting better battery life it's probably from using the ROM for a few days and not from flashing.
Yea I was going to say but you beat me to it, they are the same kernels.
Let the ROM settle, and your battery life should increase over time, then hold steady.

If you want to try another flavor of ROM based off of ICS 4.04, AOKP MIlestone 6, try this:
RandomKing's RandomROM Falcon v 1.3
I like it and would not have known about it except that it showed up as a compatible ROM in GooManager.
NOTE!: I AM NOT THE DEVELOPER, NOR CAN I ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT. I'M JUST INFORMING THE COMMUNITY IT EXISTS.
I found it the same way and have been using it myself for about a week now . no problems the only thing i changed were the e-mail and contacts back to standard rather than inverted black and white . plus i like the ability to have sound with my boot animation an option that is not available with the regular Nightly or the AOKP&CM9Remix by SGA .
How does it compare to the other roms in term of smoothness and performance?
Just flashed this rom and I'm liking it.
Trebuchet should be taken out though if Nova launcher is included.
Ran AnTuTu OCd @ 1.78ghz and got a score of 7317 and the highest FPS on the men in armour was 57fps
After having the various CM9 nightlies I am trying out the 1.1 version of this ROM. So far so good... seems pretty snappy. I haven't found anything that doesn't work so far. I chose Nova as the default launcher (seemed to have come with Nova pre-installed?).
Question... how do you change the default email color scheme. Its hard to read. Thanks!

Give this ZIP a try in TWRP/CWM:
http://db.tt/Dp221gce
It's a universal inverted Gapps that I use in most of the ROMs I install on the TP. If need be, you could always extract the gmail APK from the ZIP and push it to /system (after changing permissions, of course).
Let me know if this helps you out - I'm curious about this build - and I would like to give it a go, too.

Thanks! The universal inverted GAPPs works great and solved the problem. Many thanks.
Btw, so far I have been able to run all apps I would before using the CM nightlies including youtube , Netflix. No lag at all between screens and everything things to work as fast as before. I believe the dev focuses on battery length but so far it seems to last about the same as my experience with most of the more recent nightlies. Unfortunately wifi is also about what I experienced under CM9 (and weaker than webOS).
I will stay with this a while and see if it continues to be problem free and if any apps have a prob under the new ROM.
Again, thanks for your help, and let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Goo is a decent website, and you can go to my space to download. Goo Manager can tell you when a new version is released, which I find pretty useful. 1.1 is currently the newest version, and I've finally updated the website to reflect the proper link. I agree, Goo Manager itself is a little slow and its easier to download straight from the site. I will not provide support outside of my page for this particular rom, but seeing more than 250 downloads on the latest version, I will continue to improve the rom whenever I can.

I gave this try and found out compared to cm9 9/30th it does have a higher battery drain while asleep.. ~-800 vs -45 avg
Both roms connect to my WiFi 5ghz
Other than that the rom seems decent to use if you don't mine the heavy battery drain.
Understand that I clear everything after I made my backup to try the rom, so to say it was on a nearly clean install.

Interesting. I just checked mine and while asleep mine ranged from a low of -43 mA to to an outlier high of -74 mA, and most of the between -46mA and -48mA. Once I wake it up it varies greatly... -122mA to -820mA, but I am guessing that is dependent on what I am doing (I was watching a lot of Clapton and Knopfler YouTubes) . Are these numbers more in line with what you were thinking RandomKing? Any other battery stat I can provide that might help?

How are you guys measuring this loss? And what is the rate? My tablet averages a little less than 1 percent battery loss an hour while asleep.

Using Battery Monitor app. When I switch to %/hr state it appears to fluctuate between 0% to under 2% loss/hr. I'd guess it would average to around 1% per hour.
Btw I am pretty happy with battery on this ROM, not as good as webOS and definitely less than iOS but pretty good for Android and I think better than CM9. Now, if I could somehow I improve my wifi I'd be golden...

One thing to check, under wifi > advanced > wifi on all the time only when plugged in. Another easy and cheap fix is downloading RootDim from Play Store, which allows you to lower screen brightness way lower than stock. The TP has a very bright display so lowering it down to below 25% is still plenty bright. There are lots of other battery tweeks I am sure including apps that automate the process but the two I suggested are easy. Hope this helps!

Hey guys, been reading the threads and playing around with Joker's locked ROMs, but when I heard Moto abandoned the official ICS upgrade I bit the bullet and decided to jump into the unlocked ROMs. My most important concern is stability and battery life. I decided to try CannonROM (based on Joker's CM9 0.8.1), but after one day the battery life is killing me. I barely made it through 4-5 hrs with moderate use. I did apply the Facebook Sync "fix" which reenables the native facebook sync... could that be causing the battery drain? Should I just rewipe and reinstall?
What is the difference between CM10 and AOKP? I know TheBill has taken over both and has been updating them like crazy (thanks Bill!) but which has the better stability and battery life so far?

One day isn't enough to know how a ROM will do with battery life. You have to charge, discharge, recharge, several times, wiping battery stats each time. That 4-5 hrs could just be that it isn't calibrated yet. Cannon seemed just fine for me with battery. I haven't really found a bad ROM for battery life in the CM9 and CM10 ROMS here. I do think one ROM stands out, but it's based on CM7, and that's peetr's CM7 2.3.5 hybrid ROM. That's my daily.

Thanks for the reply. Point taken. I tried reinstalling CannonROM to clear out that Facebook Sync "fix". I'm still having trouble with Flash not working after I manually installed it, with either Browser or Dolphin. Also some GoogleVoice aspects don't work (like voice-to-text) even though GoogleNow does. I think I might try AOKP or CM10 to see if it likes my phone better...
Try then new 4.1.2 cm10 it works great for me and good battery life

I ended up going with AOKP and am very happy with it so far! It was quite buggy at first, even after multiple wipes and reinstalls, but then I realized I was only doing Full Wipe, Wipe Cache, and Wipe Dalvik, but not doing Format /system. Once I did that it really cleaned up and is working great.
One issue I'm trying to troubleshoot is that system won't scan my old media files on my external SD (but I can see, access, and play them through a File Browser). I've tried having it mounted as Internal and as External. I've gone through and deleted all .nomedia files. I cleared data on the music, gallery, and media storage apps. What's weird is when I downloaded new pictures from email, or took new pictures, and the files were saved to the SD card, the system was briefly able to find them, even if it couldn't see older pics in the same folder! Once I cleared the media storage app, then it couldn't see those files anymore.
I moved all my old media files to the Internal "sdcard" and now the system sees them. I then tried reformatting the External sdcard in CWM (Using Joker v3) and with Windows (FAT32) but both times if I copy an old media file back to the card it isn't seen by the system.
Am I not formatting the card properly? Since the files can be seen and manually run through a File Browser, I'm guessing it has to do with either the code for how the system scans media, or maybe a problem with the mount path schemes? Help!

Ever since Bill has started building from source, I would consider JB to have surpassed the level of stability as my CM9 based CannonROM. I am waiting to see what changes come in the immediate future with the atrix leak and if cybik releases his kernel. When the smoke clears cannonROMs base will be updated to JB AOKP and updates will resume. For now, go will one of Bills sourcebuilds.
I run Gummy 1.2.1 GSM only problem I have is caps doesn't lock and browser rotate FC all the time but great battery life and stability its been used for playing Deity Wars all night and this morning (about 8 total he's of use) and still at 91%
