You cannot unlock the bootloader on 2.3.5. 254_13 or 254_12.

Would that work on 2.3.5 version 45.1.190.MB853.UsC.EN.US ?

yep, I'm on the same boat, just got a Photon, thought it was just like any other GSM unlock so I ordered a code. Got cheated on $26 and couldnt find a way to enter a code... Rooted, but wasnt able to use the pudding RSD unlock since of the 2.3.5 version. Still have hope we'll be able to unlock bootloader on this device later on.

nope. not yet at least. there are rumors that it is in the works of POSSIBLY being unlocked eventually. but as of right now, there is absolutely no way to unlock a 2.3.5 phone after accepting the OTA update that was pushed to our phones.

That blows. I just was handed this phone by my boss. I am currently on an older EVO but I'm running JB so this would be a major downgrade imho.

Unlocking 2.3.5
Just kinda curious here, is there any efforts to crack the bootloader?
At these point I no longer have faith whatsoever at Motorola, but I still trust the dev here in XDA. If there's any word that there's some dev working on to unlock the bootloader on this phone, I'll be most likely keep my photon. Otherwise i might've start to look for another

I feel pretty confident in stating that we will never see an unlocked bootloader for 2.3.5 ota. Ever since moto and google abandoned us people have been leaving in masses. Had we gotten ICS and seen our JB roms enter complete stages of stability I believe the Photons popularity would have skyrocketed, bringing more interested devs to the table. But as it stands, our little beast of a phone is dying. The photon was released in July of 2011. By August of 2013, there will be next to no one left.

Well that's kinda s*ck. Been playing around with Joker ICS on my previous mopho, and it's really great actually. Motolola should've at least allow us to unlock the bootloader if they won't provide ICS/JB. Till then, I guess no more motolola for me. Kinda s*ck too, cos their build quality actually better than most other android manufacturer. Oh well...

Has anyone tried skipping the middle man and emailing google about this? Because google may be able to help some xda devs.

Yeah I am stuck on the photon 4g (wife will kill me to go to craigslist for another phone lol ). I will move to nexus phones from now on, or maybe the new blackberries is rim pulls it out and it takes off, but this why i never was an android fan, the fragmentation is so messed up. The phone is great, just moto/google screwed us.

[Q] Motorola Atrix Re-lock Bootloader

I may have to return my ATRIX due to Let'sTalk horrible customer service, but I was wondering if there is anyway to re-lock the Bootloader, or to hide the fact that it says, Unlocked. Thank you in advanced
Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, as this is urgent to me and I have yet to see any otherpost relating this topic.
There is another topic like this.
No you can't re-lock and no you can't "hide" the unlock wording. Sorry.
Sent from my AWESOME Atrix
Assume you installed 2.3 using CWM, if that is the case, you can flash the stock 1.8.3. Because the bootloader is not compatible with the unlocked phones, it won't show the "unlocked" text when you turn on the phone. I have tried it when I was trying to get rid if the unlocked text.
The down side is, you won't be able to flash custom ROM until you flash a compatible bootloader.

But downgrading will hard brick the phone.be very very carefully.
Reflash To Stock
Unfortunately, there is no way to relock a bootloader. Hence all of the warnings when you committed
but, if you use 4.5.91 the software at the address below should reinstall the newest stock software...
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS
be careful because Im not sure how motorola update will react to an unlocked bootloader. Ask around...do so at your own risk.
If you want to try a harder, albeit, safer method, and you are sure that you do not have a phone running 4.1.5.91, you can restore your phone to a factory SBF with this process:
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO RESTORE A 4.5.91 system to stock with RSD LITE.
To go to any of the blue webaddresses above, copy-paste them into your browser. Sorry, but I am not allowed to post links yet.
I wonder why nobody has created a CWM downgrade for US Atrixes. NFHimself made one for Bell or international users to go to 2.2.2 Bell and it works really well. Pretty much every partition is replaced. Great for masking that your boot loader is unlocked. Someone should probably do that for ATT to make downgrading less risky than flashing an sbf again...

The downgrading and hard brick problem stems from using the OTA update, so you won't hard brick if for example you upgraded with KP's 4.5.91.
You also should be able to flash the 4.5.91 SBF. You just can't downgrade. There are other threads about this.

The reason the fruitcakes were created and deemed safe by the devs were because it didn't touch the BL, which people believe to be the culprit behind the hard bricks. NFhimself was brave enough to testing flashing the BL via cwm in his gobstopper on international phones, but I don't think any other devs are willing to risk hard bricking their phones by testing that theory on US phones.
There also isn't enough "reward" for doing so because if people want to downgrade they can use a fruitcake. The only gain is to get rid of the "unlock" text. But if you were really that concerned about it despite reading all the warnings of this will void you warranty, you shouldn't have unlocked in the first place.

Hi,
One of the reasons I did up a default CWM of 2.2.2 is to have a means of doing a reset after trying all ATT/ORANGE/TELSTRA/MOVIESTAR/etc firmwares out there which may have side effects or accumulated side effects. Hence the inclusion of the stock bootloader and radio and a write of the extra partitions to clean up whatever mix and match leftovers are in there from the various carriers. The other big one is just to be able to get a Bell OTA applied when it comes out, it will probably be similar to the leak, but best to be safe.
This is more of a Bell/Intl issue as ATT folks tend to run just ATT firmware or flash just boot and system via CWM/fastboot and don't have the same issues as flashing a sbf file.
Both the stock 2.2.2 and leaked ap20 OTA bootloaders from Bell are safe to flash after IHOP, this is not the case with ATT bootloaders and may be the case for any included in a sbf file. Finding out the hard way is not an option.
Cheers!

[Q] Unlock bootloader tool and Razr source code???

http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/25/2585820/motorola-droid-razr-source-code-released
Huh? Says "Motorola has been pretty good with the developer community in recent times, with a tool to unlock the bootloader available soon after the phone launched"
That can't be right, right? Also, says source code was released but not a peep of it on this board which is much more in tune with this stuff normally on whatever phone I've had (like 6 using custom roms, etc).
Anyone chime in on the bootloader / source code availability from Motorola and what this means towards GB/ICS development for the Droid Razr (VZW version specifically). Thanks,
Absolutely false. There isn't ANY tool to unlock the bootloader. It can't exist.
We need a NEW BOOTLOADER that will come with the damn ICS update.
kholk, your the expert here in this. I'm not to up on the bootloader thing but would like to know just a little bit so I can understand. Why is the ICS update so important for us to unlock the BL and why can't the current BL be worked on to try and find a way through? If an update can pushed to the phone that can unlock it why can't we kinda do the same. idunno, I probably sound stupid but that's cause I don't understand it I guess.
@kholk, thanks for the reply.
3 hours of reading on this tonight and another question...If VZW are the ones making Motorola keep the US version bootloader locked, what are we waiting to happen with ICS? Quite a few people I read have stated "bootloader will be unlocked with ICS"...but it's still up to VZW right?

Our bootloader is encrypted and locked right now. The command to unlock it, moto-fastboot oem unlock, which is part of the bootloader, is disabled by Motorola currently, and they said that it won't be enabled until we get updated to ICS. The bootloader is encrypted and locked, so we can't edit it (if we could we'd have no reason to unlock it, mind you) and therefore we can't unlock it unless our update is signed by Motorola.

Honestly, nobody really cares about the source right now, because if ROM makers decide to test their work and it for some reason doesn't work, they have to get a new RAZR, as we have no SBF for restoring.

But Isn't recent leaked fastboot image allow us to restore the phone?
EU RAZR owners, yes. But it won't work for North American users, where most devs are stationed.
Maybe a GSM bootloader can be flashed on CDMA too. The AP bootloader won't absolutely use any part of the BP so this is safe.
The problem is about signatures. We should see if the VZW RAZR accepts the same signatures of the GSM one and it can happen since the GSM RAZR is recognized as "cdma_spyder".
Nothing sure, they can ever make a phone to be recognized as another but still to have different signatures.
We need the ICS update because it will include a new bootloader with the "oem unlock" function enabled.
If the device wasn't signed we could have enabled it on the current bootloader and flashing the cracked one.
Since we need to sign with Motorola's keys everything goes flashed on there, we can't.

Sorry. It was early in the morning and I was a little edgy.
And yeah, the source is labeled DROID RAZR, the international version is called Motorola RAZR. however... I believe they are cross compatible outside of the radio, so this is still useful.

[DEV][INFO] ReservedOdm, 4G, Unlocking and Downgrading

I figured it was about time I do a write up about everything we know about ReservedOdm and it's relation to 4G, downgrading and unlocking. For an overview of what ReservedOdm is you can look to this post on the Atrix forum. Essentially ReservedOdm is a one time programmable fuse that is responsible for storing a number of values which relate to Unlock State and OS version.
Now for a few interesting things that we have found out. The unlocked bootloader itself does not seem to care about any values other than the 4 you see at the end of many of the below strings. This appears to be a flag that indicates whether or not the bootloader has gone through the fastboot oem unlock proccess. I will note that merely having the unlocked bootloader flashed does not break 4G on our phones, but having it actually unlocked does.
It would appear that it is possible for ReservedOdm values to be written by both the bootloader and the main OS. This was found out because when people flashed ROM's based on the leaked photon OTA(with bootloader stripped) their phones would have a ReservedOdm value change that would prevent them from flashing any pre-2.3.5 SBF(pudding still work's). It is suspected that the 2.3.5 boot.img is capable of writing these values, since the fuses only changed when using the leaked 2.3.5 boot.img and not with 2.3.5 leak based ROM's that were repacked with an older boot.img.
It would appear that the leaked boot.img does not always change the fuse values, but has happened to some.
The 2.3.5 pudding file that was posted in the unlock thread seems to write a locked 2.3.5 bootloader which prevents both pudding and the unlocked bootloader from being flashed. It has no use and should never bet flashed since all it does is lock phones up.
Since the pudding bootloader seems to be able to be flashed with any ReservedOdm value(but not any bootlaoder), it may still be possible to unlock phones if we can find a way to bypass the bootloader checks on the 2.3.5 bootloaders.
The easiest way to tell if you can unlock is to look at the 3rd non-zero ReservedOdm value. If it is 1 it should be possible to unlock. However if it is 3 it will not be. The 2.3.5 bootloader appears to read this value and will give a sec_exception error if you are trying to flash an older bootloader if the value is 3.
The 2.3.4 SBF's however appear to check the ReservedOdm values and will fail if they are not correct.
I figure I might as well comment on this thread here. From what I can tell this is of no use to us since all the signature checks are respected when you do "fastboot flash rdl.bin". Essentially if you can ramload the rdl you can also flash the pudding file in RSD lite, and if you can't in RSD you also can't here. For electrify users this may be useful under extremely limited circumstances, apparently it can be used to flash pudding from the bootloader of phones shipped with 2.3.5 but not those that have used an OTA. For more info download this.

Ok, I think that was pulled from the 2.3.5 SBF most likely, basically just ramloading the locked bootloader. Doesn't really help us much though.

You can try flashing the unlocked bootloader, but I'm pretty sure you are stuck for now.

Definitely a possibility, but we would need someone who knows how to implement it(not me).

Ask they cyanogenmod people how to compile. This probably will not be of much use for unlocking though.

bootloader

Greetings,
I have searched the forums for my answers as well as the web. I am getting a replacement razr from verizon. The rep told me if the phone was rooted or had an unlocked bootloader I would be charged $299. I know if I overlooked anything and this question has been answered I will catch hell .It must be said that I know nothing about rooting and this was my first venture. I used EternityProject EasyRootICS to root. My question is simple did that method of rooting unlock the bootloader on my razr. I wil use superusersu to unroot. Will I have issues with verizon.
Thank you for patience on my ignorance

There is no way to unlock the bootloader so if you are rooted, you can simply fastboot the stock rom and you will be unrooted... The rep is an idiot and wants to scare you because if he knows what he is saying he will never tell you anything about unlocked bootloader on the razr as its impossible....

Thanks for the fast reply. I do not know how to "fastboot the stock rom". Will doing a "full unroot" with superusersu be sufficient. Thank you
If you are stock other than root, i.e. you haven't flashed a leaked OTA or ROM, simply removing root will be sufficient. I would suggest also doing a factory reset.

That is incorrect. The bootloader can be unlocked on the RAZR, but it will only unlock one of the dual core processors. Your "impossible" statement is invalid.

Perhaps you need to do some reading. There is currently no bootloader that is unlockable on the RAZR whether it be the xt909, xt910 or the verizon xt912 version. Some people do have RAZR's that are engineering samples with the efuse in engineering position allowing them full access. There is however a bypass (kexec by kholk) that allows users to load a custom kernel over top of the factory kernel. Currently the custom kernel can only activate one core however a newer version could possibly be in the works that supports ICS/JB and will allow the second core to be operational. This is not unlocking the bootloader but merely loading a custom kernel by the kexec command available in the kernel.
Regarding what the cs rep said, just do an unroot/factory wipe or better yet flash the fastboot for your respective version. There are several guides in the development section on how to do so using RSDLite.

On ICS there is no way to unlock or bypass our bootloader. Kexec is only available to GSM users on Gingerbread, it's not a bootloader unlock tool, it a bootloader bypass. Yes, it is practically impossible to unlock our bootloaders unless Motorola gives an unlock OTA or tool. The reason for this is that there is triple band RSA encryption on it, it would take an insane amount of time for even the most powerful computer that could be sold on the market today to unlock it.

Unlocked/bypassed = same result!

You also need to do some reading, Kexec is just a bypass for custom kernels not radios which is what you can get when it's unlocked. There are also many other things you have to rotk around when using Kexec.

how I can unlock my motorola bootloader ON 45.3.6 I NEED help ´pls

i need help im root the motorola photon, but not how to unlock the bootloader need a tutorial or something to help me for this last version and just like adding custom roms have given root access to the cell phone please help
If your on 2.3.5(latest OTA) you can't unlock bootloader you can only root/use bootstrap
Edit: To root search here on XDA for the Photon Torpedo method and that *should* work IIRC on 2.3.5 just fine. You can flash P-Roms with bootstrap but not full on ROMS like CM9/CM10/MIUI/ETC without having an unlocked bootloader
Confirmation.....
So just to confirm..... If you don't already have an unlocked boot loader and your on the latest OTA update (mines 45.4.13.MB855.Sprint.en.US --> The one with 1080p Camcorder) their is no current method to get it unlocked?

No. You can't go backwards to a previous android version either. So please don't just go flashing SBF's thinking it's possible. That seems to be a trend here lately haha.
If you are on its 2.3.5 then don't try to do anything.
You won't be able to flash back to stock even if it is soft bricked as no sbf available right now.
Better stay with current rom and don't even think to mess with it unless devs will come up with some sort of solution.

Depressing news for sure. I just decided yesterday to pull the trigger on upgrading to the JB CM10 Beta as I want to love my phone again, and now I realise that I have missed the boat Luckily I have a Xoom with Team EOS Stingray JB Nightly 124 so I do still get a JB fix but it still burns.......

here is a link to moto site to unlock https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
you have to sign a waiver to proceed saying your warranty is voided and I have not tried it but it seems moto is finally stepping up.

I don't think it is a coincidence that we get an OTA that perma-locks our bootloaders, and then a month or so later Moto drops this on us. Maybe they pushed that update so that it would be compatible with their unlocking tool?? food for thought.

That could very well be the case. Personally, what I'm thinking is going to happen, is that when the Photon does finally get official ICS support, its going to be with a new bootloader that is unlockable via their new unlocking tool. Just my two cents tho

I sure hope I can unlock this thing. The only reason I unlocked it in the first place was because I had a hardware issue where it wouldn't wake up from deep sleep. I was hoping to find a fix which I did but it hurt battery life so when figured out was under warranty sent in they gave me new one yay. nonunlockablee boo. Kind of got used to the freedom of having it unlocked
