Hey everyone!
So my rezound has a cracked screen, and I need to take it to verizon. Heres where my problem is.
I used the htc dev tools to unlock the phone and the zerg root rush method to root. I DID NOT install a custom rom. After the screen cracked, i followed nghtmr3's thread on how to UNROOT the rezound. I successfully got it to S-On, but when i attempted to install the stock rom, I could not do it. I tried to install the OTA update, but it came to the common downloading screen, but then an error pops up, and it wont complete the update.
So I tried to flash rom manager, reboot, and run recovery, but i go back to the same download and error screen.
I really just need to get superuser off so i can take it in without worries.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it, because i have been going at it for days now.
Thanks,
James
p.s. The attached picture is the updating screen. I come to this screen, but about 1/4 the way in, it comes up with a red "!" and sits there untill i battery pull.
p.s.s. I understand that i have already voided the in-house verizon warranty by having a cracked screen. And i do have the asurion insurance, but i dont want to send it to them with SU still installed, as i have heard that they will send it back.
Smash it up more and take it in.... But u will need insurance

Did you relock the bootloader and then run the newest RUU?

Well if you have a cracked screen youve already voided your warranty. So you might as well just call asurion and tell them you have a cracked screen.

All seriousness though, your screen is already cracked, just gonna have to cough up the deposit... From my understanding if you unlock this phone there is no current way to truly re lick the phone without verizon knowing, hense my great advice

Did you run the command "fastboot OEM lock" before you tried to ruu?

Maybe a Mod could move it? Or at least we can solve your problem and then lock it

I've return rooted phones to asurion. It really doesn't matter, you screen is broken its not like its a warranty issue its an insurance issue. If your that worried just tell asurion you lost the phone and pay your deductible if your so worried about sending it in.

Really? i figured that they would do a thorough check to make sure it wasnt rooted so they dont have to pay for a new one. But your right, if worse comes to worst then i will just say we lost it. Thanks

Just to let everyone know, I apologize for posting this thread in the dev section instead of general. I have contacted the webmaster and asked him to move/delete this thread. If anyone has a suggestion on how to move this thread faster, please let me know, as i wish to follow the proper etiquette for posting.
Sincerely,
James
Rooting your phone does not automatically void the warranty. It MAY void the warranty. A cracked screen shouldn't be a problem.

Awesome, thanks!
Under PRI mine says 1.12_002,1.83_002
Everything else is the same. I'm running a stock rooted Rom. Trying to get as close to stock as possible without plugging phone into computer. No computer or cable will recognize my phone (new one will be here by Tuesday) so I cant relock or run ruu.

Why do you have to unroot to get an upgrade?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
because i dont want them to give me any crap for it or to give me a hard time. you never know, ive hears mixed stories from people on here

I think he meant, you don't give them your old phone when upgrading.

I believe there is an unroot.zip floating around somewhere. I stumbled across it a while back, but never used it. You can also flash a complete stock RUU and go back to factory as well.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Thy don't take your old phone when you upgrade so you won't need to unroot. Unless you are sending the phone in as an exchange toward the new phone. In which case, you will need to unrest and lock the boot loader.

I just got my rezound today as a replacement for my tbolt. Everything was fine until I updated the software for ics. The phone just turned off after I pressed ok to install. Now, even after a hard reset, I get stuck at the splash screen. Was gonna run to verizon tomorrow but wanted to exhaust all of my options which would not void the warranty. Thanks!

Well your phone isn't completely bricked if you can get it to the splash screen. Try running the latest ruu or ota and see if that works.

Battery must be more than 30% charged and make sure the file is named PH98IMG.ZIP and not PH98IMG.ZIP.ZIP

Glad I could help! It should work, but if not, re-flash the ota/ruu another time because I've heard of stuff not sticking after flashing an ruu.

So, I've been stuck for 2 weeks at this point now and decided now is the time to ask for help since I've run out of ideas. :/ 2 weeks ago my rooted HTC Thunderbolt had finally been forced to update, I was too lazy at the time to block the update properly with the root tools. But back to the main topic, it forced the update and was done incorrectly. I reverted back to a previous backup and rom due to the issue. Now comes the biggest thing that screwed me. I figured why be rooted anymore? Just go to stock and be al fine and dandy and call it a day. No, of course it's not that simple, nothing ever is. In the middle of the unrooting with Revolutionary my computer crashed on me! So my phone had been left unrooted but without the installation of the firmware. Now when it boots, it's "**LOCKED**" and "**S-OFF**" So I can't force it to install any roms of any sort to reattempt everything. So basically I'm not able to boot beyond fastboot/hboot. Is there any possible way around it? I really can't afford to buy a replacement right now. I'm starting school again in a matter of days and need every dollar just to buy my books for this semester. Please somebody save me :[
Try running an Ruu to see if that will work. That may actually work for you.

It didn't work. At the end of its attempt it said, "Update Fail! Main Version is older!" So do I need to just find the original RUU?

That sucks. That means your hboot isn't going to allow you to downgrade. Can you run HTCdev bootloader unlock or the revolutionary tool and try the Ruu again? If not you could try finding the ics pg05img Santod posted a long time ago. That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that might work.

I'm thinking I could possibly get the HTCDev one to work. I'll report back in a few moments after I try it out. Thank you in advance for your time and your effort. It is beyond appreciated.
