Display static and lines issue - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having display issue on my tab that was purchase as refurbished unit about a year ago. It was working fine last night and I turn it on this morning and it is completely jumbled
even with this messed up screen, it can still detect internet, login with my pw etc.
It also seems that screen doesn't flicker in portrait mode while it flickers in landscape mode
As far as I can tell, it seems like the displace has become out of sync (like how you monitor behaves if you have strong magnet near by)

anyone have any suggestion to fix this? Like hard reset on the display or recalibration method?

Could you resize your photos? They are HUGE!
Was your Tab left plugged in to charge all night? If so maybe a power surge happened? I'm not sure if it can be fixed. I'm sure there are experts here that will chime in! Good luck!

it was not left plugged in...
if it was power surge, more than just display would go
guess XDA doesn't have many HW experts?

There's no need to be rude. It's the weekend and people are busy. You need to be patient. Resizing your enormous photos so they are easily viewable might help too.

I misread this quote as "I'm not sure if there are experts here that will chime in!" as for HW experts
does most people read this forum using 3G connections? no one has ever ask to resize 3 photos taken from my phone camera on any forums. They are 3MB per picture. Is that considered big in this forum?

It happened out of the blue, so it appears to be a hardware issue. Better contact Samsung, as it may not be easy to fix.

It isn't the file size, it's the resolution itself. Even on my 1080p desktop, they are nearly twice as wide as the monitor.
Make sure to resize them to a "standard" resolution.

it auto re-sizes to about 640x480 to 8000x600 on my firefox
resized, better?

someone from another forum suggested that it seems like connection btw screen and board seems to be loose. Plausible, but not sure since it didn't receive any big shock from time I went to sleep till I got up
Any other suggestions?

Your tab has secretly been dropping acid?
Seriously though, this looks a bit like an issue a Samsung TV my parents own developed.
The fault was determined to either be the LCD panel itself or the cable connecting to it but since the two were one integral piece and the TC was out of warranty, it was cheaper to replace it than try and have it fixed, so we never got to the bottom of it.
If your tab's still under warranty, you'd be best sending it back to Samsung and letting them have a look.

weird broken screen problem

I have no idea how this happened 5 minutes ago I was playing draw something on the tablet then I closed it did a few things and when I come back to it I have a large horizontal line going across the screen and a small ink splotch on the bottom of the horizontal line. I can't take a screen shot of it. The picture comes out fine. Can someone plz tell me if this is a hardware or software issue and how to handle it. I bought the prime in Feb so I don't know if I'm under warranty or not. Plz help this is extremely upsetting.

If you reboot and the problem is there during the splash screen, then I'd say hardware.

I guess its hardware but how could this happen maybe too ,much pressure in that area? How much/little pressure could cause this. Its even in a roocase. Will Asus fix it if I complain about this with GPS issues?

The screen physically is fine. No "cracks" on the outside so I wasn't sure if it was on the internal or software

Screen issues? [Pixelated videos, viewing angle]

So, my Ultra Z doesn't display videos correctly. They look super pixelated.
I've tried YouTube, Vodio, Instagram, Vine and even downloaded the video files and played directly through the device.

I read that someone else had this problem on YouTube and fixed it by re-installing the app, but my issue is global and not only with YouTube.
I just noticed that if I tilt the device and look from another uncommon angle, the videos look fine and everything else generally looks better.
Just wondering if anyone else experienced this and ask them to please share some light on how to fix this, if possible.
I've tried with both the 475 and 510 firmware with no luck.
On a side note, nothing I've tried on the screen works other than my fingers. Is there something I need to enable for any pen to work?
Thanks in advanced.
Sounds like you've got a dodgy screen mate, I'd send it back under warranty.

Yup, send it back and get a new one while you still have the chance.
Dude, this is the first time I've ever heard that display looks better when viewed from an angle...
On another note, does the display only look pixelated when playing videos? It could be software related. Have you wiped clean the phone after changing fw?
And about the pen, try using pen with bigger tip, see if it works. I can even use my fingernails if I pressed hard enough (so that the contact area increased - just a gentle press will do) and I used a pretty thick matte screen protector...

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I tried contacting Sony customer service and since I'm from North America, I can't currently get any service from them because the phone isn't out here yet and they don't have the parts in order to do a repair.

Yeah, the videos are the only thing that look bad. I've played many games and they all look fine.
I noticed that if I disable X-Reality, the videos don't look that bad. But still, they look horrible.
I've tried doing a phone repair with Sony PC Companion and no dice.
As for the pen, I've tried using many things with tips of all kinds of sizes and nothing works.
Edit: I added some screenshots to the original post.

[Q] Light Bleed or Other Display Issue?

Greetings! I am wondering if it is possible for this to be light bleed or is it another display issue? Basically a white bar is about .5" from the bottom bezel of the tablet. I do notice there is light bleed in that area, I'm wondering if it's the cause of the white bar? I tried my best to capture the defect and outlined it in red. It is quite hard to see in photo, but very easy to spot in person on light colors etc. I know there is a separate light bleed thread, but I thought maybe this could be another issue? Thank you for your input.

That looks like more than just light bleed. Light bleed on mine isn't as much a defined line as yours. Plus I usually don't see it on light screens. But let others answer here too
I am in the same boat as you, zetsumeikuro. I think it has to do with the cheap display panel that came with the Nexus 9 as I had the same bar of slightly-more-brighter-portion-part with my really old iPhone 3GS before heading to android. It's too bad I I can see mine really clearly too :'(

I had the same exact defect in exactly the same spot. Receiving my tablet from warranty this week with the display changed. Will see if it is really fixed.

Thanks for the update! I also just decided to send my tablet into HTC for repair for this issue. I also have super slow charging sometimes, so might as well have them take a look at that too. Please let me know how the repair worked out for you. I was super reluctant with sending my 9 into HTC cause of my craptacular experience with the purple camera with the one. Had to do the "repair" 3-4 times, it was utter and complete bull**** and chaos.
Looks like HTC repair did the trick this time! Total time from me shipping the device out to them sending it back (excluding weekends) about 8 business days. They swapped out the LCD and fixed the slow charging issue. Tablet seems like brand new!
Looks like a lot of HTC's panels for the N9 are pretty cheap. My "repaired" one has the same issue, just to a much lesser extent. The defect is on the bottom but only a small part .

Screen display burn in protection is not working :(

I've a zenwatch 2
Recently I've noticed that there is a shadow on the screen, to discover then that maybe some pixels have died !!!!!!!!!
I've returned to dev. options and find the screen burn in protection disabled, enabled it and after restart returned to the dev. options and it's disabled again.
Tried to snap some photos, you can notice the circle in the middle :S

Have you tried setting "Always On Screen" to off. I disabled ambient mode to save battery, but it ends up leaving the display on for no more than a few minutes a day. That should practically eliminate burn-in.
Mine has the same problem, nothing is working, I have no idea how to fix
OLED displays are prone to this. I have an old Galaxy S2 that I used as a desk clock for a while, and it now has a clock pattern burned into it that shows up on very light screens. Note that while the underlying cause of OLED burn in is different from CRTs, the effect is similar. The pixels are permanently dimmer because they are dying faster.
The only "fix" is to display a negative image for a while until the rest of the screen "burns in" to match, which might be some trick on a smart watch (and it's not easy on a phone), so it's probably just stuck there. Also, even if you eliminate the burn-in, all you have really done is shortened the life of the remaining pixels. I'd just choose a similar face that tends to hide the issue and move on.
The only solution is to not have a static image on the screen for very long. For watches, this means letting the display turn off instead of keeping it on all the time.
Thanks all
Thought it was a software problem

I have a very tiny hope that AW 2.0 will solve it (Very tiny tint)

I had to send mine in for warranty repair. This started after about four months use, without the always on screen. I just got it back, it took them about two weeks, but they replaced the screen, and it's good as new. I was hoping they'd load it with Wear 2.0 before they sent it back, but no such luck.

Odd screen discoloration

Hello!
I recently purchased an Honor 10 and noticed that it had a weird screen-issue that was only noticable while displaying certain pictures. The screen would turn a bright shade of pink and green while swiping between images in the gallery before rendering them in their correct colours. I also noticed that when I took screenshots they would come out with really washed out colours. I sent the phone back and ordered a new one from the same retailer since they're the only ones who stock the 128gb model in my country, and when the new unit arrived earlier today I found out it has the exact same issue. I called support to make sure that they didn't just send me back the same unit and they're adamant that it isn't and that the IMEI numbers are different. Has anyone else encountered this issue or am I really unlucky to get it twice in a row? I tried doing factory resets on both phones but the issue remains.

Hello! Thank you for replying! Mine was set to vivid, so I changed it. Really odd thing though is that I sent the second phone I had issues with back yesterday and settled for another retailer with the 64gb model, and today when it arrived I find that it has the exact same issue! Really not sure whether I'm doing something wrong or if I'm astronomically unlucky since that's 3 in a row now. At first I thought the images that get the discolouration issues might be corrupted or something like that, but I've downloaded others from google and gotten the same result anyway. Every time I take a screenshot the result comes out with less colours as well, so if I do it multiple times I get multiple copies of the same image with a gradient effect. I really love the phone other than these issues, so it's a bit distressing.
Seems impossible.
You get this problem since before you install any app?
Maybe the lighting in your house gives a weird effect on the materials used in this phone.
3rd one same problem is crazy.

Yep, no apps installed. I skipped the sync and wifi-connection and everything when I first started it so I could see if it worked properly. I don't think it has anything to do with the lightning in my house, I did a screen recording to show the issue so I could send it to Huawei support and ask about it, and you can tell even on my PC screen that the discoloration is very evident and the screenshot issue as well. That would indicate that it's a software issue, wouldn't it? I tried to attach the recording to my OP but I can't post links yet since my account is new. Not sure if I want to risk ordering another one, I will wait for their support to reply to me and see what they say!
Probably hardware problem.
I would return it and buy another one from a different source.
Probably a lot of bad batches got sent out?
